Commissions’ Corner
This month’s theme focuses on our Parish Mission Statement, which can be found on the front of our bulletin. Forming this statement was actually the job of the Parish Council and occurred, quite literally, immediately after the formation of St. Pio Parish. Coming up with a mission statement is not an easy task as it sets the direction and overarching theme(s) that the organization stands for. It defines the organization in many ways. For our Parish, the formation of this statement came with a rather interesting exercise the members were put through. After some reflection and prayer, every-one listed ten words or phrases they felt defined our new Parish. Next, each member shared their list while each word was written on a large board for all to see. A tally was taken to see who else had mentioned that same word or phrase. This tracked the frequency of how often it was mentioned. We then took the top 5-7 words or phrases and next drafted an actual statement that we could all agree on. This became our mission statement and it reads: We the Catholic Community of St. Pio, inspired by the Holy Spirit, celebrate the Eucharist with hope, to share our faith, love, and the good news of Jesus Christ through outreach and fellowship. It is absolutely vital that we uphold the values present in our mission. In the columns that follow this month, the Commissions will reflect on our Mission Statement, and hopefully you will too.
Your Parish Council
WHAT ABOUT YOUR PARISH
Are you willing to carry on the mission of St. Pio of Pietrelcina?
After providing for your families and loved ones, parishioners, alumni, and friends may want to put St. Pio in their will, helping to assure the long-term future of our parish. Bequests are free of estate tax and can substantially reduce the amount of your assets claimed by the government.
You can give support for St. Pio Parish by simply including the words in your will: “I give, devise, and bequeath to St. Pio of Pietrelcina Catholic Church, Rose-ville, MI (insert amount, item or property being given here) to be used to sup-port the mission of St. Pio Parish.
A bequest can be a specific dollar amount, piece of property, percentage of an estate, or all or part of the residue of an estate. Think about naming St. Pio Parish as a contingency beneficiary in the event someone named in your will is no long-er living. It is always recommended that a lawyer help in drafting or amending a will.
The First Sunday of Advent
For Catholics, the new Liturgical Year commences with the first Sunday of Ad-vent. In this new liturgical year, the Church not only wishes to indicate the be-ginning of a period, but the beginning of a renewed commitment to the faith by all those who follow Christ, the Lord. This time of prayer and path of penance that is so powerful, rich, and intense, endeavors to give us a renewed impetus to truly welcome the message of the One who was incarnated for us. In fact, the entire Liturgy of the Advent season, will spur us to an awakening in our Chris-tian life and will put us in a ‘vigilant’ disposition, to wait for Our Lord Jesus who is coming. ~Trinity Communications

Music Notes
We have many volunteers here at St. Pio who know a few things about volun-teering. I come from a long line of volunteers. I don’t ever get to tell this little
story. My grandmother started quite simply in the Ladies Activity Society at Patronage of St. Joseph Parish on the other side of City Airport. From there she went on to be the only three-time Chairperson of Fontbonne Auxilary at St. John Hospital on Moross. She helped raise the money to build the original hospital. She found land and helped build the facility for the Dominican Nuns of Mount Tabor in Lake Orion, and worked along-side Cardinal Mooney with the Xavier Sisters Japan mission and St. Vincent de Paul. She was always busy on the phone or out selling raffle tickets, or staffing a rummage sale, or out getting donations by being purely tenacious. At her funeral at Patronage, Father mentioned how she was so much like St. Joseph the Carpenter. My father was on the board of Marygrove College, Austin Catholic HS, Cardinal Club, CYO, Guest House in Lake Orion, and Vista Maria. He facilitated the move by De La Salle High from their location across from City Airport to Warren. My mother volunteered at St. Clare Parish, worked with The Red Cross both at St. Clare and downtown for over 30 years. My Aunt was a SSJ nun out of Nazareth Michigan and ran a medical technology labora-tory in Chimbote, Peru for nearly 25 years, concentrating on training young women in neonatal care. Moral of the story? Volunteer, find something, anything, your niche, keep trying, it will come with practice. Mark Madison, Music Director

Child Struggling with Substance Abuse
When you have a child struggling with substance abuse, attempting to handle it on your own can be extremely overwhelming and can eventually be-come your first and only priority. It may also be difficult to take the first step be-cause addressing the problem is disrup-tive to school and extracurricular activi-ties. However, addiction is far more disruptive to your child’s life in the end, and treatment can work. Taking the time now to get help can save your child’s life, get help from the Alcohol Rehab Counseling located on, 31900 Utica Road, Fraser, Mi. 48026 or call 586-541-CARE. St. Pio Intercessory Prayer Ministry
Come join us after Mass in the church and experience the Holy Spirit at work. Prayer teams are available after all weekend Masses. Intercessory prayer is a prayer that pleads with God for your needs and the needs of others. Often the problems we face seem too big for us. No matter how much we try, we cannot solve them on our own. It's times like these when we need to turn to the Lord in intercessory prayers.
