Faith Formation & Youth Ministry News

Janice Pazuchowski, Faith Formation

Labor Day usually suggests the end of the Summer for our children. This year things seem a bit different as schools remain closed and online classes begin due to the pandem-ic! How weird is this not to see buses driving down the streets or parking lots filled with parents dropping off their children? We pray for an end to this pandemic so we can all get back to the things we're used to, like going back to school!

Here at St. Pio we have extended the deadline for registration for Faith Formation classes K-8 and will accept registrations until Tuesday, September 8. Parents can choose between in-person or online learning. Please sign up as soon as possible so all the neces-sary materials can be ordered. The Faith Formation office remains open on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 12-5 p.m. for drop off. Registrations can also be placed in the mailbox at the north end of the building by the Christian Service entrance for a contactless method of delivery.

Our First Communion Mass (that was cancelled last Spring) will take place on Sunday, September 13 at the 11 a.m. Mass. We will have 7 rows reserved for our First Commun-ion Students and their Families. The First Communion banners the children made, with their names on them, will reserve their rows. We ask that all attending wear masks, maintain social distancing and abide by the church guidelines.

The practice for First Communion will take place on Thursday, September 10 at 6:30 p.m. Please meet in the church. Again, masks and social distancing will take place. Please note: Reconciliation will be made available at this practice for our students.

Confirmation Prep (Grade 9) will begin on Tuesday, September 15 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. in Rooms 5 & 6. Please return the Confirmation Prep Registration, Medical Form and Sponsor Form as soon as possible. Masks and social distancing will be required for this in-person learning experience.

Also scheduled to begin is the High School Ministry for Grades 9-12. We will meet in-person on Tuesday, September 15 from 7-9 p.m. in the Youth Room. Again, masks must be worn with social distancing taking place.

RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) will start up again in September. So if you know of anyone interested in completing their Sacraments of Initiation(Baptism,

Holy Eucharist or Confirmation) into the Catholic Faith please invite them to call the Faith Formation Office for more information at 586-777-9116 ext. 5. We welcome people of all ages and wherever they are in their faith journey. Our goal is to gradually instruct on topics of the Catholic Faith through our Sessions, Retreats and Liturgies. All are welcome!

Our mission of sharing Christ’s saving Word must continue. In these difficult days we are called to bring to our families, neigh-borhoods, and workplaces the kind of hope that does not disap-point. We have been sent by Christ to be his light in the world. In the words of Pope Benedict XVI, “What the world needs is God’s love; it needs to encounter Christ and to believe in him.”

We need your support to continue our mission. It is through your kindness and generosity that we are able to meet the needs of individuals and families in our communities, parishes, and schools. Hundreds of thousands of lives are impacted every year by the programs and ministries sponsored by the Catholic Ser-vices Appeal. We must continue to bring Christ to those lives.

Would you prayerfully consider your support and possibly in-crease it on behalf of those who are not able to do so this year?” —Archbishop Vigneron

PRAYER TO

Padre Pio

FOR HEALING

Padre Pio of Pietrelcina, obe-dient father, you loved the sick and infirm more than

yourself because in them you saw Jesus. In the name of God you performed miracles

of healing in body, soul and mind.

Your intercession with God healed the ills of past and present and strengthened peo-ple to respond with confidence to future challenges. Those who came to you re-

gained a sense of spiritual integrity as you rekindled hope in their lives, and encour-

aged them to renew the spirit in their hearts.

Through the intercession of Our Heavenly Mother, may we experience your powerful assistance and be healed in our bodily and spiritual needs. Gratefully give praise and

thanks to God for all His blessings.

Amen

PLEASE PRAY FOR OUR SICK

Musical Notes… Monday we celebrate Labor Day, a fed-eral holiday in the United States. We set aside this day to honor and recognize the American labor movement and the works and contribu-tions of laborers across the nation.

As a way to honor this special day, today we will hear our Music Min-istry sing Day of Peace written by Janèt Sullivan Whitaker. The words of this song are so powerful. They are full of hope, gratitude and prayer.

We dream that one day, because of our labors, we will experience peace on earth.

We are thankful for the many opportunities God has provided to us to work for our homes, our families, our church, and our nation. Alt-hough each one of us has a different vocation, our goal is shared. We are called to build the Kingdom of God using our own gifts, talents and passions, so “whatever you do, do it from the heart for the Lord…” (Colossians 3:23)

We pray for an end to hunger, for healing, for safety, for equality, and for all those things we keep in the silence of our hearts.

Let this song be my prayer for all of you. I pray that you will experi-ence God’s peace!

I wish you a very restful and joyous Labor Day Weekend.

Blessings, Debi
