Dear Parishioner’s,

The St. Ambrose Society has had an overwhelming response from our community to volunteer and help our cause to serve the poor in so many ways. As a result of this, you will see our schedule has expanded in

February and we will be increasing our service to the St. Louis community significantly in March. We will

be needing your continued support in prayer, volunteering & in-kind donations. Please consider joining us

to help prepare meals in the cafeteria or go with us to the different soup kitchens to serve. If you are

Pray, Fast, & Grow in Charity . "Dust thou art, to dust returnest" is taken from the psalm of life by Henry Longfellow.

This is a line which is further taken from the bible in Ecclesiastes 3:20.

"A Psalm of Life" by Henry Wadsworth carries a message of hope and encouragement. It

encourages people to live their lives to the fullest, using the short time we have here on Earth as

a gift. The poem is a message to future generations to find work and action that gives them

purpose and passion…and so Lent begins.

40 days to pray, fast and grow in charity. We need this time each year to step back and

reexamine our lives, to turn away from our sins and to grow in the virtues God so deeply

desires to bestow upon us. The 40 days of Lent are to be an imitation of Jesus’ 40 days in the

desert. In fact, we are called not only to “imitate” Jesus’ time in the desert, we are called to live

this time with Him, in Him and through Him. Source “My Catholic Life”

As you begin your Lenten journey,

• spend additional time to PRAY, i.e., attend weekday mass, walk the Stations of the

Cross, make a visit to our Adoration Chapel.

• FAST, not only according to the laws of the Church, but extend your fasting to exhibit

self-control in other areas of your life, i.e., control anger management, eliminate gossip.

• GROW in CHARITY by volunteering your time or an in-kind donation to the

St. Ambrose Society, St. Vincent DePaul Society, or visit a home-bound parishioner

unable to make a trip to mass, the grocery or pharmacy.

During these next 40 days, imitate Jesus’ time in the desert, through your prayer, fasting and

selfless acts of charity. Hopefully we will develop new habits, while growing our St. Ambrose

Community to be a stronger, peaceful place to work and pray!
