Collection-The collection that is taken up will benefit the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.

Celebrated on the last Sunday of the liturgical year, the Solemnity of Christ the King was instituted by Pope Pius XI in 1925 with his encyclical Quas primas to respond to growing secularism. The Holy Father saw that attempting to “thrust Jesus Christ and his holy law” out of public life would result in continuing discord among people and nations.

The Solemnity reminds the faithful that Christ reigns as king of the entire world forever, and it encourages Catholics to respond to this reality. Pope Pius XI notes: “The kingship and empire of Christ have been recognized in the pious custom, practiced by many families, of dedicat-ing themselves to the Sacred Heart of Jesus; not only families have performed this act of dedication, but nations, too, and kingdoms” (Quas primas, 26). Let us rededicate ourselves this year to bearing witness to the reign of Jesus Christ and his Sacred Heart.

The students in Ms. Dallmeyer’s second grade class recently used their measurement skills and made Apple Jack Cookies. The majority of the class found them to be delicious! We are learning a great deal about the sacrament of reconciliation and anxiously awaiting our opportunity to receive this sacrament. As a part of a service project the class decorated turkeys that will be used as door decorations for the residents at a local assisted living community. Scrip - The last week to order Scrip before the Christmas holiday will be Monday, December 16.

Generic Scrip will be available for teacher and staff gifts. Just send a note and separate check from your scrip order indicating the dollar amount that you wish the certificate to be and how many you need. I will return them to you for your children to give out. The teacher or staff member will then come to me and pick out the gift card of their choice for the amount they were given. This has been very popular in the past. The last day to order these is also December 16. St. Peter Alumni Recognition - We would like to recognize a graduate, of at least 15 years, of St. Peter Interparish School or St. Peter High School (living or deceased). Nomination forms are completed yearly and returned to the parish office, school office at 314 West High St., JC, MO 65101, or a mem-ber of the School Advisory Board. Nominations are accepted until November 20, 2019. The Alumni Recognition Award Committee, appointed by the St. Peter Interparish School Board President, is responsible for the final selection. during the celebration after Mass.

Giving Tree

The Giving Trees are now set up in the VESTIBULE in the BACK OF CHURCH and in the RAMP ENTRANCE to church! We ask our parishioners to join together to provide 40 families from the Samaritan Center with gifts and food for Christmas. The families will receive their Christmas gifts and food from our parish on Wednes-day, Dec 18th so all gifts, donations, food, etc... need to be returned to church by De-cember 15th. We encourage everyone to plan ahead so all the gifts are returned on

time and last-minute purchases are avoided.

All ornaments on the trees correspond to a gift request from our families. Please purchase a new item (minimum $25), wrap it, and place the ornament on the OUTSIDE of the package as the gift tag. The ornament is necessary to ensure anonymity for our families and to help each family know who gets each gift. Gifts should be returned to church and placed under the trees by De-cember 16th. Gifts can also be returned to the parish office if the church is locked. Monetary donations are also needed to help purchase food baskets and unreturned gifts.

Parishioners are also asked to save large cardboard boxes for us to use when organizing the food and gifts for each family.

Thank you for your tremendous support with this project. Thank you to all the school children/families for bringing in food items to fill the food baskets for our families.

Please call or email Codi Lauf or Jamie Strope with questions.

Alice Kuehn’s Nurse Notes

Happy Thanksgiving! Here comes Advent!

Preparing for Christmas - Advent is the time for us to “ponder anew what the Almighty can do...” Let us also ponder what we can do to prepare for His coming. Advent is a wonderful time to pause amidst the busy-ness of our daily life and to be more at-tentive to our spiritual, mental and physical health. The Advent and Christmas Seasons get filled up with a lot of stuff - so take a look at your busy schedule and see if you can plan less and relax, pray and meditate more. Maybe you could read some of Luke’s gospel readings of the Nativity every day. Consider par-ticipating in some of the Advent liturgies and activities as a spe-cific way to prepare for His coming. Make healthy recreation a part of your preparation but take some time to reflect on what entertainment activities you will enjoy during Advent and Christ-mas.

As you begin to prepare spiritually for Christmas, remember also to pray for those who are so much in need of food, clothing and shelter around the world - those hard hit this year from fires, hurricanes, tornados and floods, for those living in the war-torn Middle East, migrants and immigrants fleeing from war, hostility, and persecution, as well as those in our own community who are alone and/or in need of comfort and assistance. In addition, not only pray, but also reach out to help, perhaps by helping with the Samaritan Giving Tree or some other Christmas “service project.”

Our volunteer Caring Neighbors work with me to bring greet-ings from the parish, bring weekly bulletins, assist the priests and deacons with ensuring spiritual needs are addressed (Masses in the nursing homes, weekly communion services, communion to the homebound), and simply sitting visiting with and praying with those they visit, as well as seeing if there are unmeet needs that the parish nurse should check on. Another aspect of this ministry is through those who volunteer as Prayer Angels, the receive a letter with the latest listing of prayers re-quested; their ministry is to pray for those needs. Lisa Fender manages this ministry. Letters of sympathy from the parish are sent out to families of the recently deceased - Lorena Mercer assists with this ministry. Mary Ann Goth works with volunteers to create and send birthday, holiday and other greeting cards to the homebound, residential care parishioners, religious and seminarians of our parish. Our parish is blessed with so many kind volunteers who give much of their time to this ministry. Please remember to pray for those who serve, and for all pa-rishioners hospitalized, homebound or in residential care. If you would like to help with visiting homebound – we especially need more volunteers to visit the nursing homes - or would like to assist in other ways, please call Alice at the parish office. You may contact me at 636-8159x369 or via email [email protected].

Supporting the Men and Women in the Armed Forces

Many of our parishioners are serving in the Armed Forces.

Please pray for all those who serve our country.

Vocations Spotlight

Please keep in your thoughts and prayers the men from our Diocese and parish who are studying for the priesthood or con-secrated life. You may send a note or card of encouragement or thanks if you wish. In the spotlight this week: Erick Chinchilla

Be attentive to the elderly in your family and parish. Their prayers, wisdom, and sufferings are of infinite value to the Church and the world.

Visit them in the hospital or nursing home. Bring Holy Commun-ion to them when they can't make it to Mass. Seek their advice and be inspired by their faith.

God is continually speaking through them. Let's Listen.

Come and learn about the Creighton Model Fertility Care System and the medical applications called NaProTechnology. This is chemical-free reliable family planning to achieve or avoid preg-nancy and to monitor women’s health, with medical applications that find the cause and treat it to make the woman healthy. Perhaps you are tired of taking the birth control pill for every reproductive problem or of having your daughters on this steroid for acne or cramps? Or being told that IVF is your only solution for infertility? In addition, these systems are totally in accord with Church teaching affirming that there is no conflict between faith and science – good medicine and Church teach-ing. 573-443-3470 or 816-550-8789, [email protected].
