Suggested Timeline for Next Organizing Committee 2016 The Chemistry Student Research Symposium 2015 has been found to be a productive, and rewarding experience for our faculty, students, and staff which makes us believe that it should continue in the future, rather it should expand to spread out the significance, applicability, and quest of chemistry research. We suggest that the next organizing committee may follow the below tentative timeline for the next symposium in Term 161 Table 5: Week‐based suggested timeline for the next organization of next student research symposia
Semester Week No. Task
Week 6 Formation of organizing committee – First announcement
Week 7 Contacting Sponsors
Week 8 Deadline for ABSTRACT submission
Week 10 Notice of Acceptance – First reminder for submission
Week 11 Final reminder for submission
Week 12 Deadline for poster submission
Week 13 Printing of the posters – Error identification/correction (if any)
Week 14 Symposium to be held early in the week
Week 15‐16 Final report preparation and submission
Future Organization Support Required We appreciate the University support in organizing this symposium and all other student research activities. In particular, the Housing and Office Services Department, Public Relations, and KFUPM Press are offered special thanks for their prompt and constructive support. The department has multiple different research courses which are offered to undergraduate students so as to encourage students and their supervisors to further the research outcomes in order to meet the University’s research growth efforts. Quite recently, a departmental committee re‐visited these courses and benchmarked against the courses offered by the top international universities. Based on the recommendations of the committee, research students in the future will be highly encouraged to participate in local/international events of high scientific repute so as to present their quality work and to network with their scientific peers. This symposium can serve as an encouraging as well as selection platform for such students to go to the limits of their scientific endeavors, for which, further financial support is requested from the University to cover the cost of such students attending international and local research conferences, overseas field trips, and travel grants. Moreover, a bit higher funding can reward more number of prizes to the students, thus winning more involvement.
