The Palatino Story
Inspired by old world craftsmanship and the artistry of Italian design, Palatino takes its name from a central hill in Rome
where ancient emperors built their palaces. It is these origins that fuel our passion for the craftsmanship that inspires our
carefully crafted and meticulously detailed pianos.
Palatino entered the piano market with a mission to redefine what people expect to pay for a piano that is both high-
quality and affordable. We established ourselves thanks to our pianos' exceptional value, and have become a favorite of
teachers, parents and students who want a professional piano without the “professional” price. Larry Fine, author of the
critically-acclaimed piano buyer's guide The Piano Book was impressed, stating the Palatino pianos he inspected from
the factory “arrived in excellent condition, needing hardly any preparation.”
We weren't new to musical instruments when the first line of pianos was unveiled in 2000. With 20 years of experience
making stringed instruments, skilled labor and a strong management team, we already had a great foundation for
building quality pianos. Palatino already had respect and recognition in the sophisticated Chinese piano market (the
world's largest) which includes many Chinese universities, music programs and professional players, and our goal is to
replicate that success in the US market.
Our Palatino factory is located in Shanghai, China, where a combination of precise, state-of-the-art machinery and
attention to detail help set the standard for our premium, affordable instruments
Palatino imports high-quality components from Europe including hammers and Roslau strings from Germany, and
Canadian solid-spruce soundboards for our Professional Series instruments. All of our pianos are manufactured using
CNC routers from Japan and Germany.
Few countries have a greater history in casting iron than China, where companies have maintained foundries since the
15th century. Drawing on this rich heritage, we use a wet sand-casting process to manufacture our piano harp, resulting
in a sound that is warm, rich and complex.
Chinese pianos have been pouring into North America since 2002, but few meet the standards of discerning teachers,
technicians and pianists. We've separated ourselves by delivering unparalleled affordable quality upon delivery. Palatino
builds pianos that will impress on every level – tone, construction, value and service – and we stand behind the quality of
every instrument we make.
