This collection was donated in 1985 by Mrs. Rada Bulat and additional archival material was presentedto the National Archives by Mrs. Bulat in 1986. Most publications and periodicals were kept in thecollection. Some items published in Canada were transferred to the National Library. The newspaperGlas Kanadskih Srba was transferred to the National Library Newspaper Collection. Photographs weretransferred to the Documentary Arts and Photography Division. One sound recording was transferred tothe Moving Images and Sound Archives Division. Also two reels of film were transferred to this Division. Some files have been deposited in the vault. Volumes 1 to 33 are boxes each containing 20 cm of files, volume 34 is a box of 7 cm.

A modified Library of Congress system of Serbian transliteration is used in this finding aid, however, somenames, titles and other words previously transliterated according to other systems were left in their originalform.

This is the most significant archival collection of a nationally-known Serbian community leader at theNational Archives of Canada. His career spans an important period in Serbian-Canadian history especiallythe post-World War II period. He was an active member and leader of the major Serbian communityorganizations in Canada and any history of the Serbian community must include detailed descriptions of hislife and activities.

This collection provides rare and valuable information on his relationship with other prominent leaders ofthe Serbian community in Canada and the United States. It also contains information on his close andfriendly relationship with the Hon. Paul Martin in Ottawa and in Windsor. Extensive correspondence withfriends and relatives in Canada, the United States and Yugoslavia provides a rare and unique insight intothe career of one of Canada's most prominent ethnocultural leaders.

The Pero Bulat Collection was acquired through the direct assistance of Dan Mrkich, whose advice andcomments in preparing this finding aid are gratefully acknowledged.
