One week our preacher preached on commitment, and how we should dedicate ourselves to service.

The director then led the choir to singing, “I Shall Not Be Moved”. The next Sunday, the preacher, preached on gossiping and how we should watch our tongues, The hymn was “I Love To Tell The Story”. The preacher, became disgusted over the situation, and the next Sunday he told the congregation He was considering resigning. The choir the sang “Oh, Why Not Tonight”. When the preacher resigned the next week, he told the church that Jesus had led him there and Jesus was taking him away. The choir then sang. “What A Friend We Have In Jesus”.

Pastor Burke closed meeting with prayer. Table prayer said in advance of potluck meal.

Update on Pastor CallSunday, January 12, Arnie Bubolz gave an update on the pastor call. Pastor Boertz has received the packet sent to him and will let the church know by January 25 whether or not he will accept our call.

God’s BountyThank you to Pastor Haag’s wife for this month’s recipe. Many of you have enjoyed Karen’s recipe after church during fellowship.

Cranberry Swirl Coffee Cake½ cup butter1 cup sugar2 eggs1 cup sour cream1 tsp. almond extract.2 cups flour1 tsp. baking powder½ tsp. baking soda½ tsp. salt1-14 oz. can whole cranberry sauce (I haven’t tried it but I think about 2 cups of your own cooked and cooled to gel would work too.)

Glaze1 cup powdered sugar1 tablespoons water½ tsp. almond extract1. In large bowl, cream butter & sugar until light &

fluffy. Add eggs, 1 at a time beating well after each. Stir in sour cream and extract. Combine dry ingre-dients, gradually add to creamed mixture.

2. Spread half the batter into a greased & floured bundt pan. Spoon ½ of the cranberries over batter. Cut through batter with a knife to swirl cranberries. Layer the remaining batter and cranberries. Sprin-kle with walnuts. ( I have mixed them in the bat-ter.)

3. Bake at 350 for 50-55 minutes. Do the toothpick test.

4. Cool and glaze.

Ladies’ Aid Christmas/Potluck luncheon, January 14, 2020.

Tabor Ladies Aid Meeting (January 14, 2020)Ten ladies attended the January 14 meeting at 8:30 am. President Strohbusch called the meeting to order. No meeting was held in December as we used the time to decorate the church for Christmas. The financial report given by Diane Fitzpatrick shows a balance of $6,055.07 in the checking account. The LWML extension fund balance is $12,766.21. Motion to accept the treasurer’s report by Toots Olsen, second by Janet Strohbusch. Passed. A few requests for donations were received, but no additional amounts to be given at this time.

OLD BUSINESS: Thank you from Janet Strohbusch to the ladies who helped with the lunch for Dennis’ funeral. The family really appreciated it. Thank you to Tracy Brooks and Ev Charlson for co-ordinating the purchase of the poinsettias. Thank you to Toots Olsen and Ev Charlson for the advent wreath arrangement. Thanks to the ladies putting up the beautiful Christ-mas decorations. We discussed purchasing a new pre-lit tree. We have completed 18 quilts, donating 4 to the WIC office and 5 will be dropped off at Avail, Inc. shelter in Antigo. Janet Reed suggested we bring our fabric cutting boards next week so we can cut material to the correct sizes. We need to sort and donate fabric we cannot use for quilts. Our congregation meeting is January 26 right after the church service. We will have coffee cakes, cinnamon rolls, juice and coffee. We will look through the banners at our next meeting to determine if we want to ‘make’ any additional ones. Tabor will be hosting the LWML Rally on April 25. A planning meeting will be here on January 17 at 10 a.m. whoever wants to attend is welcome. Arnie Bubolz has informed us the Lutheran Layman’s meeting will be at Tabor in March, the date unknown at this time. He asked the Ladies Aid to prepare a light lunch meal. Janet Strohbusch did the report for the annual meeting. The next meeting will be February 11 at 8:30 a.m.

We closed the meeting with the Lord’s PrayerEv Charlson, Secretary

Bird of PromiseThe funniest incident of my 40-year ministry took place in the parsonage living room during a wedding. Immediately after the bride and groom and said “I do,” our clock sounded the hour: “Cuckoo, cuckoo, cuckoo”!

Tabor Lutheran Board Minutes (Tuesday, January 21, 2020, 9:00 a.m.)PRESENT: Arnie Bubolz, Jerry Moede, Gary Kebschull, Brian Fitzpatrick, Tracy Brooks, Laurie Schoenebeck Guests: James Vorpahl

A motion was made by Jerry Moede, seconded by Tracy Brooks to approve the minutes of the December 23 meeting. Motion carried. The financial report was presented by Brian Fitzpatrick. A motion was made by Gary Kebschull, sec-onded by Jerry Moede to approve the financial report. Motion carried.

PASTOR’S REPORT: Shut ins were discussed. Again, during this time we are without a pastor, please make a board member aware of anyone who is a shut in.

OLD BUSINESS: Progress on the parsonage was discussed. The upstairs of the parsonage is mostly done. Quite a lot is complete in the bathroom, as well, with B&E plumbing. It was previously thought that the living room carpet would be able to be used, but it has been decided to replace the hallway, kitchen, dining area, living room/entrance area all with vinyl planking. Previously it was thought that the basement wall had a leak, but it has been since discovered that the leak was coming from within from a reverse osmosis unit. The parsonage was tested for radon and water quality and it passed both tests. At the same time the ceilings at the parsonage are plastered, the church ceilings will be plastered as well. The Pastoral Call was discussed. President Bubolz will be contacted on January 25 as to whether or not Pastor Boerst accepted or declined our call. Candidates for treasurer are Brian Bartmann and Ron Lange for VP/elder.

NEW BUSINESS: The items for the agenda for the Annual Voter’s Meeting on Sunday, January 26 were discussed and are being assembled. The 2020 Budget was also discussed. The church computer has Windows 7 and will be needed to be upgraded to Windows 10.

Holy Communion schedule for February is Sunday, February 9, Arnie Bubolz and Sunday, February 23, Gary Keb-schull.

Next meeting date is Monday, February 17 at 9:00 a.m.

A motion was made by Tracy Brooks, seconded by Jerry Moede to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried. The meeting was closed with prayer.

Beginner’s LuckIt was the first hospital call of my ministry, and I wanted it to go well. Dos and don’ts firmly in mind, I walked anixiously to the paient’s room. There she was--a woman in her 80s who, the nurs-es had told me, was senile.

Just as I was about to intone a carefully practiced greeting, she leaped up on the bed with surprising agility--and without a stitch of clothing.

My compsoure all but gone, I garbled, “Ma’am, can I hope you with something?”

Gotta go to the bathroom, gotta go to the bathroom,” she squeaked.

Well, one thing I knew was that my job as a pastor was to minister to spiritual needs, and this obviously was a physical need. So I rushed into the hallway, looking for a nurse or an orderly. Nobody in sight. What to do?

I went back to the room and she was still standing there--an iimpa-tient patient. Completely befuddled by now, I could only manage, “Ma’am, there’s nobody out there, but I’ll be back next week.”

Before I could escape, she fairly screamed at me, “Young man, I can’t wait till next week to go to the bathroom!”
