� ll two At-Large positions, one position represent-ing Council District No. 1, one position representing Council District No. 4, and one position representing Council District No. 5 on the City of Tacoma's Events and Recognitions Committee.

The nine-member committee consists of Tacoma residents, with representatives from each of Tacoma's � ve Council Districts, who bring a range of perspec-tives and expertise that focus on the City's commit-ment to celebrate civic engagement and special obser-vations. The panel oversees City-hosted events and celebrations -- such as the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration and the City of Destiny Awards -- by plan-ning, reviewing, and evaluating events; engaging the community in its fund-raising efforts; and soliciting corporate and private sponsorships to leverage funds for these events. The committee consists of Tacoma residents recommended by Tacoma City Council's Economic Development Committee and appointed by Tacoma City Council.

Tacoma seeks applicants for Events and Recognitions

By Todd Matthews, EditorThe City of Tacoma Tuesday formally ac-

cepted seven grants totaling approximately $13 million to help pay for a range of public works projects throughout the city.

In October, the Puget Sound Re-gional Council announced it would di-rect approximately $5 million in grant funds to help the City pay for � ve key projects: approximately $1.8 million for the Historic Water Ditch Trail; ap-proximately $1.1 million for the Schus-ter Parkway Promenade; $850,000 for pedestrian street improvements in the Hilltop and South Downtown neighbor-hoods; $750,000 for a project at South 48th Street and Tacoma Mall Boulevard; and $420,000 for the second phase of a project involving traf� c model updates, mode choices, and pavement management inte-gration (see "Key Tacoma, Pierce County trans-portation projects awarded regional grants," Ta-coma Daily Index, Oct. 30, 2014).

Also in October, the Puget Sound Regional Council announced it would direct approximate-ly $2 million to the City as part of a nearly $4 million overall project between the City of Taco-

ma and the City of University Place to help pay for the � rst phase of road improvements near 56th Street and Cirque Drive (again, see "Key Tacoma, Pierce County transportation projects awarded regional grants," Tacoma Daily Index, Oct. 30, 2014).

Additionally, City of Tacoma of-� cials announced last month the Transportation Improvement Board awarded a grant totaling nearly $6 million to the City to help pay for im-provements to a stretch of Port of Ta-coma Road between East 11th Street and Marshall Avenue.

The City will need to provide ap-proximately $2 million in match-ing funds in order to accept these grants.

Tacoma City Council approved a resolution Tuesday to accept the

grant funding and provide the matching funds during a public meeting at Tacoma City Hall (see "Tacoma poised to accept $13M in grants for public works projects," Tacoma Daily Index, Jan. 9, 2015).

The City of Tacoma is accepting SEALED BIDS for the above solicitation. Submittals will be received and time stamped only at the Purchasing Division, located in the Tacoma Public Utilities Administration Building North, Main Floor, 3628 South 35th Street, Tacoma, WA 98409.

Bids will be received until 11:00 a.m., Pacific Time, Tuesday, Jan- uary 27, 2015, at which time they will be opened by a Purchasing representative and read aloud during a public bid opening held in Conference Room M-1, located on the main floor in the same building.

Prospective bidders will be required to pay reproduction costs. A list of vendors registered for this solicitation is also available at their website. After 1:00 p.m. the day of bid opening, pre- liminary submittal results and names of vendors submitting bids are posted to www.TacomaPurchasing.org for public viewing.

A pre-bid meeting will be held at the the North End Wastewater Treatment Plant located at 4006 N Waterview St, Tacoma, Washington, 98407 at 11:00 am. on Tuesday January 20, 2015. The purpose of the pre-bid meeting is to answer questions about

this solicitation and any special or technical requirements.

Project Scope: The scope of work generally consists of all general, civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical work needed to remove and replace the NETP ventilation system located in the Influent Pump Station wet well, dry wells, clarifier electrical and chemical rooms. All other work required to complete the NETP Ventilation Upgrade as shown on the Contract Drawings and as specified in the Contract Docu- ments.
