The development is slated to be built on prop- erty located at 415 E. 25th St. and purchased by the transit agency in 1999, when nearby Tacoma Dome Station was under construction. Last year, Pierce Transit and the City of Tacoma began searching for a developer to build a mixed-use, transit-oriented project on the site. The City and Pierce Transit agreed that a proposal submitted by Cody Development Cooperation to construct a seven-story building that would include five floors of residential space atop two floors of retail and parking spaces was most feasible, according to Pierce Transit officials. On Mon., March 9, Pierce Transit Board of Commissioners approved a resolution authoriz- ing staff to begin negotiating with Cody Devel- opment Corporation for the sale of the property. Both parties are expected to spend the next three to four months completing the necessary due dil- igence, according to Pierce Transit officials. "This mixed-use development will serve as a catalyst for future investments in the Dome District," said Tacoma Mayor and Pierce Transit Board Commissioner Marilyn Strickland. "Ta- coma Dome Station is the only transit hub in the region that accommodates every mode of trans- portation imaginable." "We are excited to see transit-oriented devel- opment move forward on this property, and look forward to what this development will bring to the district for our future," added Dome District Development Group President Janice McNeal. "The Dome District is fortunate to have Pierce Transit prioritize their property for quality de- velopment in our community like this." Pierce Transit OKs Tacoma Dome District development proposal
