Pending confirmation by the Pub- lic Utility Board on March 25, Chris Robinson (pictured) will take the helm as chief operating officer on May 1. He currently serves as the utility's Power Management manager. If the Public Utility Board confirms his ap- pointment, Robinson will succeed Ted Coates, who has served as Tacoma Power's superintendent since 2009 and will retire on May 1. Robinson began his career with Ta- coma Power in 2001. As power man- ager, he oversees the planning and management of the utility's power supply portfolio, which includes Ta- coma Power's three hydroelectric proj- ects and a $125 million a year power purchase contract with the Bonneville Power Administration. He is respon- sible for planning the utility's future power supply needs, balancing cus- tomer loads with energy supply, marketing and trading approximately $50 million of power on the wholesale market each year, and managing the utility's energy conservation programs. Robinson holds a Master of Science in Re- source Economics from the University of Maine, along with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Rut- gers University. "We had the fortunate but challenging task of choosing between several highly qualified, seasoned executives with- in and outside the organization for the superintendent position," said Tacoma Public Utilities Director and CEO Bill Gaines. "Although it was a tough decision, I'm confident we made the right one. I, and others on the leadership team, have been impressed with Chris' leadership style, knowledge of electric utility issues, and commitment to Tacoma Public Utilities. He has an in-depth understanding of our organization and already has ideas for how we can perform at an even higher lev- el. I believe our customers and our employees will benefit from Chris' leadership of Tacoma Power." "I realized 14 years ago that I wanted to spend the rest of my ca- reer at Tacoma Power," Robinson said. "I didn't know at that time I would have an opportunity to lead the utility, and I am honored to be selected. Tacoma Power's customers can be assured that I will work as hard as I can to con- tinue to keep their rates low and their service reliable – and will seek out ways to continue to improve the services we provide." Posted online Weds., March 18The Tacoma Arts Commission has awarded

$255,000 to nine Tacoma-based arts organiza-tions through its Arts Anchor Fund program, and $40,000 to 16 Tacoma artists through its Ta-coma Artists Initiative Program.

"Supporting a diverse group of local artists and arts organizations helps build a creative com-munity," said Tacoma Arts Commission Chair Traci Kelly. "Funding the arts at multiple levels means our city gives everyone opportunities for meaningful engagement and expression."

The 2015-2016 Arts Anchor Fund program award recipients include Hilltop Artists, Mu-seum of Glass, Northwest Sinfonietta, Tacoma Art Museum, Tacoma Musical Playhouse, Ta-coma Opera, Tacoma Symphony Orchestra, Tacoma Youth Symphony Association, and The Grand Cinema. The Tacoma Arts Commission established the Arts Anchor Fund program in 1995 to provide nancial support to major local not-for-pro t arts organizations that signi cantly improve the quality of life for Taco-ma. These arts organizations serve Tacoma's community through regu-larly scheduled performances, exhib-its and events, and school and out-reach programs.

The 2015-2016 Tacoma Artists Initiative Program funded artists include Saign Charlestein, Jennifer Chushcoff, Matthew Coté, Kristin Giordano, Michael Hae inger, Whitney Henry-Lester, Christopher Jordan, Jeremy Mangan, Janet Marcavage, Tim Norris, Chandler O'Leary, Isaac Olsen, Nichole Rathburn, Holly Senn, Emilie Shimkus, and Gregory Youtz. Funded Tacoma Artists Initiative Program projects in-clude a spoken word album and poetry reading; a podcast series exploring varying perspectives on Tacoma; production of a series of short lms showcasing poetry; performance and recording of instrumental and vocal songs; production of a book of poetry and photographs; and the creation and exhibition of two- and three-dimensional vi-sual art including metal art, photography, mixed media, paintings, printmaking, illustrations, and textile and paper sculptures. The Tacoma Artists Initiative Program was established in 1999 to assist artists with the generation of new work, and to share their talent with the public in a free and accessible format.

The Arts Anchor Fund program awards range in value from $20,000 to $40,000 each, and the Tacoma Artists Initiative Program awards are $2,500 each. Funding for both programs is for the 2015-16 biennium. The Arts Anchor Fund program and Tacoma Artists Initiative Program are two of three funding programs administered by the Tacoma Arts Commission. A complete list-ing of funding programs and information about

the Tacoma Arts Commission are available on-line at cityoftacoma.org/arts.
