WEATHERPAK® marine weather stations provide professional level meteorological measurements in a compact, rugged, and easy-to-install system. They incorporate the most advanced meteorological sensors available and support critical military, scientific and commercial operations worldwide.

WEATHERPAK® marine weather stations operate where extreme temperatures, salt spray, exhaust, high winds, fog and heavy rain are frequent. They are built for quick deployment and service with modular components that can be set up or swapped out in a matter of minutes.

Coastal Environmental Systems, Inc. offers both standard WEATHERPAK® configurations and customized solutions that scale to our customers’ demanding needs. We consult with customers on all aspects of their project, including: system design, sensor selection, data processing and transmission, telecommunications, power, and installation.

Key FeaturesWEATHERPAK® Construction

● WEATHERPAK® contains all the standard meteorological sensors and eliminates all cables and connectors. (Cables and connectors are the weakest points on any marine system.)

● Double O-ring seals fully protect all electronics from the harsh marine environment.

● The WEATHERPAK® external housing is constructed of Military-Standard 6061-T6 anti-corrosive aluminum, coated with a baked-on thermoplastic resin.

● Additional sensors can be integrated into the system via a waterproof junction box

Installation and Maintenance

● WEATHERPAK® marine weather stations come with Coastal’s quick-release mast mount.

● A WEATHERPAK® weather station can be removed or replaced in service in less than 60 seconds.

Measurement

● Integrated GPS and compass calculate both true and relative winds.

● Dual WEATHERPAK® systems report both port and starboard wind data; manual or auto detection of up-wind is available.

● WEATHERPAK®s internal data processor is a fully configurable data logger.

Data Transmission

● Weather data is transmitted to an onboard display and/or integrated to the ship’s network.

● Communication protocols include: NMEA 0183, RS232, RS485, TCP/IP, and more.

● Integration with radio, mobile, or satellite telecommunications is available.

Voluntary Observing Ship

(VOS) WEATHERPAK® Coastal partnered with the NOAA VOS program to develop

WEATHERPAK® shipboard weather stations to collect and transmit weather observations from commercial vessels at sea.

Data from these weather stations is used to improve weather forecasts, warnings, and general monitoring of the state of the oceans and climate.

Features Include:• VOS WEATHERPAK® weather stations are completely autonomous and independent of ship’s power and navigational equipment.

• Direct transmission of SYNOP messages via Iridium satellite to servers anywhere in the world.

• Solar power systems are rated for most latitudes and shipping routes.

• Mounting hardware is rated for winds of 120 mph (54 m/s).

• Quick-release technology allows for easy maintenance by port meteorological officers or other shipboard technicians.

Indian research vessels use custom WEATHERPAK® systems.
