In a recent incident, Jenette Nhlapho, a resident of Vlakplaas in Vosloorus, was robbed of R18 000 at Chris Hani Mall. “I was accom- panied by my brother to withdraw money from the bank at the mall. We left the bank and I put the money in my bag. On our way out of the mall premises I noticed a woman who was also inside the bank picking up some bank notes and there was a lot of money on the ground. She asked us to help her pick the mon- ey up so that we could share it. We helped her and she directed us to an open space next to the mall where we were going to share the money. On arrival at the open space before counting the money, we saw three men arrive. They told us that they were police officers and showed us their identity cards. They accused us of stealing the money. They tied us up with a rope, took the money from inside my bag and the money that we picked up, and ran away with the woman,” said Nhlapho. She reported the incident at the Vosloorus Police Station and a case of common robbery was opened. Speaking to tame TIMES, Captain Piet Rossouw, Communications Officer of Vosloorus Police Station said, “There are syndicates that are targetting clients withdrawing cash from ATMs, banks or money outlets. The syndicates are operating mostly at the malls, targetting unsuspecting shoppers. The community should be aware of fraudsters waiting to de- fraud them at the malls,” He added, “A member of the syndi- cate will walk past an unsuspecting person who recently withdrew cash and drop a bundle of money. A sec- ond member of the syndicate, who will also “witness” the money that has been dropped, will approach the unsuspecting person or shop- per who recently withdrew cash and show the person the “abandoned” bundle of cash on the ground. The syndicate member will then convince the unsuspecting person to follow him quickly to a hidden spot to share the “abandoned” cash. As soon as they reach a hidden spot, fellow syndicate members will pounce and rob the unsuspecting person of his or her money drawn from the ATM,” explained Rossouw. He said people should be alert and conscious of the surroundings when using the ATM machine or at the bank. Rossouw said they should never trust a stranger with their money. Fashion and events comes and go but wedding day experience remains a memo-rable experience for most brides and con-tinues to be shared by many generations to come in most families. Despite the uphill battles associated with a lot of marriages, wedding day experiences are the reason that inspired Chantel Gamble to establish a Bridal Dreamm Shop based in Al-berton. “I have tried a lot of business ventures after I retired from my previous work but with no success. My real break came when I saw wedding gown advert on the internet a few

years ago. I decided to redirect my energy on selling wedding gowns,” said Gamble.Despite the alarming rate of divorce inci-dents, she said young generations grow up and they also want to be married like their predecessors. That is why there is always a niche for wedding dresses. “Most of the dresses we have in our shop are imported overseas. However, we do custom ordering dresses depending on customer’s specifica-tions,” said Gamble.Wedding dresses and matric dress at Bridal Dreamm shop ranges from R1900-R2500. The shop is situated at Trust bank Centre, number 50 Voortrekker Road, Alberton. For more info contact Chantel Gamble at: 082 756 1269.

Akane Magaza Society donated 19 pairs of brand new school shoes to needy learners from Phumula Gardens Primary School. Sarah Simelani, educator at the school was touched by the plight of learners with-out proper school shoes and went the extra mile to seek help from the Akane Magaza Society. “I noticed that the grade

R learners did not have proper school shoes. I went to seek for donations from the society. We appreciate their positive response to our plea and we urge the par-ents and learners to take good care of the shoes,” said Simelani. Bukelwa Mazaka, deputy principal of the school said, “We thank the society for their wonderful donation. Our learners are coming from underprivileged backgrounds and their parents cannot afford to buy them proper school uniforms. Learners

without school uniforms feel incomplete and it affects their self-esteem. We would like to encourage the society to extent their hand in providing the basic needs to other schools.”Kgothatso Seheri, a member of Phumula Gardens Primary School, School Govern-ing Body said, “We appreciate the dona-tions from the society and they should continue with their good work. We are also appealing to parents to help in seeking sponsorship for the benefit of the learners.

The 2014 FIFA World Cup is starting today, 32 teams have converged at the greatest football stage in Brazil to fight for the ulti-mate football crown. Football spectators are look-ing forward to see who will emerge as the greatest soc-cer star in this tournament between Portugal dribbling wizard Cristiano Ronaldo and Argentina goal scoring machine Lionel Messi. However, that should not re-duce the competition five time champions Brazil and the in-fluential role to be played by their rising star Neymar. The host nation dubs the tourna-ment Neimar’s perfect plat-form to introduce himself as one of the lethal Brazilian striker who could emulate Pele and Ronaldo. All eyes are watching the English team, and the fans are optimistic that they sur-pass their previous FIFA World Cup mediocre record. Hopes of their resurrec-tion from being an average team to be counted amongst the football giants, is solely placed on the shoulders of the inform Steven Gerald. The Liverpool captain pin-pointing passes from the heart of the pitch would find their lethal striker Wayne Roonie equal to the task of finishing off work already done. The English support-ers hope that the Manches-

ter United prolific striker has brought his lucky goal scor-ing boots in this tournament. Other tournament dark horse soccer pundits are looking at the four time FIFA World Cup Champions, Italy. They can outperform any team in the tournament if opponents allow Andrea Pirlo to spray tantalising passes from the heart of the pitch. Ivory Coast hopes are placed squarely on the shoulders of Manchester City’s Yaya Toure and Dieder Drogba. The Ivory Coast golden generation of stars are the dream team for any coach in the African continent but they have failed to deliver on pitch so far. Soccer experts be-lieve that Ivory Coast is the only African side which could make Pele’s (soccer legend) dream of seeing an African team winning this prestigious cup in this tournament a re-ality.Current African Champions Nigeria under the leadership of Stephen “The Boss” Keshi are expected to cause up-set in this tournament. They have shown no respect to their opponents lately and play a beautiful soccer. The Ghanaians are ready to rem-edy the upset caused by Lewis Suarez stoppage of a goal bound ball which pre-vented them from reaching the semi final stage of the 2010 World Cup.
