The next TARC meeting is Nov. 3
and includes elect-ing officers for
2012 (see p. 3). There will be a great program too.
See you at the Church of Christ in
Western Hills in Temple, 210 N. Gen. Bruce Dr., at

The Fall 2011 HamEXPO was very successful
thanks to all the hard work and support of
TARC members. I personally had several
people stop by the front desk to say thanks for
running HamEXPO and to let me know that
HamEXPO is one of the best Ham flea markets
in Texas. A thank you also goes out to the VEs
that supported the amateur license testing
session. This is definitely one of the important
events during HanEXPO.
Congratulations to the HamEXPO grand
prize winners: Dwight Baldwin, KC5RAB;
Phillip Kabler, KD5HQS; and Gilbert Rymer,
W5GKR. .
A TARC and VE breakfast was held at the
Temple Luby’s Cafeteria on the Saturday
following HamEXPO. Turnout and
conversation was good. Plan to make the next
one after the Spring 2012 HamEXPO if you

The first nationwide test of the Emer-
gency Alert System, or EAS, will take
place at 1:00 p.m., Central Time on No-
vember 9, 2011. The broadcasters, along
with FEMA and the FCC, have been
working to ensure both the success of the
test AND that the public is informed and
fully aware of it in advance. However,
no matter how much outreach is con-
ducted, or how plain the language is that
accompanies the test alert, it’s likely that
some of the public may be confused and
feel compelled to contact police, fire, or
other emergency services through calls
to their local 911 centers.
Remind your family, friends, and as-
sociates of the upcoming test on Nov. 9.
Talk about the test on the radio so listen-
ers and other operators will be up to
speed.
Please contact the State Operations
Center at 512-424-2208 or
[email protected] if you have any ques-
tions.
