CULTURE AND TOURISM TENTSThis year, our community-supported festival will feature the “World City of Istanbul. “Described by the historian Procopius as the city surrounded by a wreath of water, Istanbul boasts an exquisite geographical position and deep roots in history. With a history going back 8,500 years, Istanbul is an ancient city that is simultaneously modern and fresh. Old world and modern world, Islamic and Mediterranean coexist in its captivating atmosphere. The distinctive characteristic skyline of the city, combining monumental minarets with modern skyscrapers, perhaps portrays it best. The outstanding universal value of Istanbul resides in its unique unification of diverse architectural styles of many eras and civilizations. Roman aqueducts, Byzantine churches, Venetian towers, Ottoman palaces, modern buildings and contemporary plazas which give the city its unmatched beauty.
LINE DANCE FOR PEACEThe Turkish Festival is a community event. It is organized, delivered and financed by the Turkish American community and local businesses in the Washington, DC Metropolitan area. This September, once again festival goers will have the opportunity to journey from Washington DC to Turkey by experiencing Turkey’s rich cultural history, its culinary delights, and a variety of live Turkish music and engaging folk dance performances. This year, we also invite all Washingtonians to join us in honoring the diverse colors and cultures of our city with traditional dances, which have symbolized peace and cultural interaction for centuries. Our organization cannot think of a better place to be than Washington, DC, one of the most diverse cities in the United States, to create a circle of friendship to foster and promote peace and tolerance. The “Line Dance for Peace” will take place at 2:30 pm in front of the main stage.
