TAWAS UNITED METHODIST CHURCH October 2018 Volume 45 Issue 10 Dear Church Families, Time is really flying. I realize that my monthly Beacon article as a pastor is already due. I feel I submitted the September one a few days ago. Overall, I guess that s a positive. I didnt spend my time all bored, just hoping the days would go by quicker. Even though I didn t exactly sit around waiting for the opportunity to write my October article, I do want to wait for Jesus return with great excitement. Ive been sharing Gods word with you regarding how to be good stewards for several weeks. God is the one who granted us all the wonderful things we have in this life. Our family members, money, time, talents, all nature around us, and even the air we breathe are provided by the Lord. So often we dont take time to appreciate the things we have or the things God has allowed us to have. Id like to share two challenges we might face in the course of our efforts to be good stewards. The first challenge might be unfulfilled expectations. We freely applaud the great abilities of some athletes, some famous musicians or our friendskids, yet we feel disappointed because our life is not like one of those. Thats a great temptation and the evil one can use those moments to make us feel that we are not loved by our Heavenly Father. The Accuser tells us that we are not worthy and no one cares about us. That s a serious lie and we should guard our hearts from those moments. I have found very helpful to read loudly many beautifully written Psalms.Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me: your rod and your staff, they comfort me”. Psalms 23:4. No matter how small our ability might be, we will be rewarded greatly when we meet Jesus as long as we are faithful to the Master. The second challenge might be the disease called forgetfulness. This disease makes us forget who our Master is, and that there will be a time when we will give an account to Him. He is very loving, yet just. He gives us enough time to change, but there will not be any more chance to change when the final call is spoken. Our family was traveling through Pennsylvania one summer and was able to see the great theatric performance Noahby the Sights and Sound Christian group. They even brought in live animals and it was a well done production. I still can t forget one scene that God was closing Noahs Ark and Noahs neighbors were banging the door pleading to open the door. It was too late and all the people on the earth were washed away besides Noahs family. Noah was faithful to build his Ark before any rain fell (Genesis 6-9). Jesus tells us that he will come back like a thief (Matt. 24:43,44). I truly believe that he will come at any moment and am praying that He will find us faithful servants who use the things He granted wisely. That means we might change our attitude and action toward our spouses, children, and neighbors. It might require change in the usage of our money and time and talents to honor God. Above all give thanks and praises to our wonderful Savior and Lord in the midst of sickness and lifes dark moments as well as in happy times. Thanks be to our gracious Father, Pastor Kris

October 2018

Volume 45 Issue 10

Dear Church Families,

Time is really flying. I realize that my monthly Beacon article as a pastor is already due. I feel I submitted the September one a few days ago. Overall, I guess that’s a positive. I didn’t spend my time all bored, just hoping the days would go by quicker. Even though I didn’t exactly sit around waiting for the opportunity to write my October article, I do want to wait for Jesus’ return with great excitement.

I’ve been sharing God’s word with you regarding how to be good stewards for several weeks. God is the one who granted us all the wonderful things we have in this life. Our family members, money, time, talents, all nature around us, and even the air we breathe are provided by the Lord. So often we don’t take time to appreciate the things we have or the things God has allowed us to have. I’d like to share two challenges we might face in the course of our efforts to be good stewards.

The first challenge might be unfulfilled expectations. We freely applaud the great abilities of some athletes, some famous musicians or our friends’ kids, yet we feel disappointed because our life is not like one of those. That’s a great temptation and the evil one can use those moments to make us feel that we are not loved by our Heavenly Father.

The Accuser tells us that we are not worthy and no one cares about us. That’s a serious lie and we should guard our hearts from those moments. I have found very helpful to read loudly many beautifully written Psalms.” Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me: your rod and your staff, they comfort me”.

Our family was traveling through Pennsylvania one summer and was able to see the great theatric performance “Noah” by the Sights and Sound Christian group. They even brought in live animals and it was a well done production. I still can’t forget one scene that God was closing Noah’s Ark and Noah’s neighbors were banging the door pleading to open the door. It was too late and all the people on the earth were washed away besides Noah’s family. Above all give thanks and praises to our wonderful Savior and Lord in the midst of sickness and life’s dark moments as well as in happy times.

Thanks be to our gracious Father,

Pastor Kris

TAWAS UNITED METHODIST WOMEN

A very sincere thank you to Dianne Knight for the wonderful presentation on our hymns. I did not know that there were stories behind those wonderful songs. I know everyone enjoyed it as much as me. Thanks again Dianne. The presentation brought us away from the usual business meeting. October is almost here. I hope everyone is thinking about the upcoming Bazaar on October 20th. There are group meetings on Thursdays to work on some projects. You just need to come over and help. There are projects there to work on. We have signup sheets to work on the Bazaar too. If you have not signed up yet, please consider it. Our Lunch Bunch continues on the 4th Wednesday at Tawas Big Boy Restaurant at 12 pm. Join us, you will not be sorry. Lots of good fellowship. UNITED METHODIST MEN’S ACTIVITY

For information please contact: Terry Madick chairman Gary Bushman co-chair: [email protected]

TAWAS UNITED METHODIST MEN

Men's Dinner will be held on Thursday October 18th at 6 pm in the Family Life Center.

The Tawas United Methodist Men’s group are planning having these dinners monthly with different speakers making informative presentations after each dinner. Any and all men from the Tawas Area are definitely invited to attend these activities. Information concerning these activities will be available at the Tawas United Meth-odist Church monthly.

FLOWERS FOR THE ALTER

If you have a special anniversary, birthday, new baby or you would like to remember someone, you can celebrate these occasions by placing flowers on the alter. There is a chart on the wall outside the Church Office where you can fill your name in on that special date and they will be ordered for you. If there is a certain color or flower you want, just ask. Cost is $30.

NEW CHURCH DIRECTORY

A new Church Directory is being developed. This directory will have pages that can be added or removed. No professional photographer will try to get you to buy pictures, just one of our talented members will take your picture here at the church. If you cannot come to the Church for your picture, please call the Church Office. This directory will be created in-house which will save cost to our

members. Everyone needs to have their picture taken and fill out a form to let us know your correct address, phone numbers, and email addresses. Even if you only come to church in the summer, we still want your picture and information. To set up a time to have your picture taken there is a sign-up list in the Gathering Space.

NAME TAGS

If you have been to one of the services at church lately, you noticed your name tag is in a new place. In order to have everyone wear their tags they are now in holders located just outside the Sanctuary. We want to be sure that our new members know who you are and that you know the new members. Everybody likes to be called by their name, so please look for your tag in the holders, if you cannot locate yours and you do not have one at home, please let Pat Fisher know and a new one will be made for you. After service, place your name tag in the basket marked Name Tags. Thank you!

THANK YOU! The Missions team would like to SHOUT OUT a BIG THANK YOU to the United Methodist Men's group! Thank you

for purchasing the AWESOME new larger freezer for the Missions Team to use for storing all of the apple, blueberry and cherry pies in

once they have been made. Not having enough freezer space has been a worry for us the past few years, and now we feel good about having

enough freezer space to store our pies. We cannot thank the men's group enough for their generosity. Thank you!

GRIEF SUPPORT PROGRAM 2018

St Joseph Health System provides a variety of Grief Support services for our patients, families, employees and members of the area community. They include Grief Support groups which are held monthly, on Thursday from 3:00 to 4:30 PM at St Joseph Hospital in Classroom C. These groups provide support and information for anyone whose life has been disrupted by a significant loss due to death of a loved one. All sessions are facilitated by qualified member of our Spiritual Care Team. There is no fee, however Advance Registration is appreciated. To register please call 362-9368 and talk with Chaplain Michael Sullivan, Manager Spiritual Care.

GIFT CARD PROGRAM

Do you use gift cards? Our program offers the 350 different gift cards with 745 various dollar amounts available on these cards. You can purchase these cards directly from us and/or we would gladly set up a family account for you which allows you to reload various cards purchased from us. If you have reloadable cards you can add money to these cards on line and that amount is then available within 3-4 hours and you do not have to wait for us to get new ones for you. If you buy these cards from us, we then earn percentage rebates for our church to help fund special programs in our church. We want to thank everyone who desires to help us with this gift card program. Your continued support will help us pro-vide support for the next important project our church faces.

Some very important information has just been presented to us. Scrip allows any person that has a family account to obtain scrip cards in various ways. They have a wallet program that can be used to purchase cards using your cell phone. You purchase the card information and it is sent to your cell phone which you then show at the store to purchase merchandise. You may also purchase cards using your computer and printing the necessary code on your printer and take the printed information to the store to purchase your merchandise.

We just found out that Walmart now allows Scrip families to reload their cards through the Scrip website. This allows any person that purchases Walmart cards through us you can now RELOAD these cards through your family account with the Presto-Pay.
