SPECIALS MONDAY: Library TUESDAY: P.E. WEDNESDAY: Music & P.E. THURSDAY: Art FRIDAY: P.E. TEAM KNECHT Weekly Buzz September 19, 2011 WHAT IS GOING ON THIS WEEK Math: We will begin to read, write, and sequence numbers up to 1,000. We will be using our 1,000 chart to estimate sums. *Math CBA: On Wednesday, September 21, students will be taking a math CBA over he information they have learned so far. Please make sure that your child is rested and has had a good breakfast. Science: Students will begin to measure the mass of different objects using a pan balance. We will also begin to identify matter as solid, liquid or gas. Reading: We will be working over the next few weeks to expand the strategy of making connections/activating schema to help us better understand the texts that we read. Writing: Students will begin to move pieces through the writing process. We will begin with a pre-writing session, then write a draft, revise, edit and publish our first piece this week. Our grammar focus will be on end punctuation including declarative, exclamatory, interrogative, and imperative. Social Studies: Students will learn about characteristics of good citizenship by focusing on historical and contemporary figures. Homework: Tuesday 9/20 100 minutes of reading is due filled in with a parent signature on the reading log. Spelling Monday evenings, students will bring home their new words for the week. Their Monday homework will be to sort the words and WRITE them on a piece of paper. We will not glue words until the end of the week so we can use the word cards to practice. Spelling tests will be give on Fridays! Additional assignments will be added to the agenda as needed. Don’t Forget!
