A company is a new customer if it has not received R&D funding from Tekes during the last five years. The payments made to joint projects have been allocated to the participants since 2006. Numbers include 10-50 associations and other public organisations. Funding of feasibility studies was transferred from Tekes to the TE Centres (ELY Centres) in 2008.

New growth companies in Tekes funding

During the last years, Tekes has beenemphasizing generation of new growthcompanies it its funding

Tekes activities can be divided into three entireties:Generation of new emerging companies, e.g.Public research and commercialisation of results Examination of patent portfolios of large companies

(e.g. Nokia Technopolis Innovation Mill) Fast, small funding decisions of high risk to refine

business ideas

Funding of fast growing companies, e.g.Special funding for Young Innovative Companies (NIY)VIGO-accelerators for companies

Funding of moderately growing companiesTekes funding for R&D and innovation

Tekes annually has approximately 5,000 customers which have received Tekes funding in the last fiveyears or which have an outstanding Tekes loan. About one percent of these go bankrupt every year.
