Satellite Services Regardless of where you are, you are just one click away from the world

The demand for connectivity and bandwidth is increasing at a phenomenal rate, be it for personal communications, government or enterprise networks. To meet this demand, service providers and organisations alike are looking at satellite services – either as a complement to terrestrial networks or as the default choice, leapfrogging the terrestrial infrastructure altogether.

Improvements in satellite bandwidth efficiencies have brought down per Mbps prices to levels never seen before. At the same time, ongoing technology advances are spawning new businesses and opening up new markets.

At Telstra, we are have expanded our satellite coverage from Asia Pacifi c to the rest of the world, introducing new features all same time. By combining these latest satellite capabilities with our global terrestrial network and a full suite of application services, you can be assured of end-to-end solutions to meet your connectivity and networking needs.

Benefits

No place is too remote

Unconstrained by geography or terrain, Telstra’s Satellite Services can reach almost anywhere in the world. We are proud to be one of the very few satellite service providers who have live connectivity into remote locations, such as Antarctica. From deserts to the seas and more remote locations, we help narrow the digital divide for local communities and connect businesses and industries worldwide.

Speed of deployment

Satellite circuits are not constrained by the cabled last mile or ‘local’ interconnect arrangements between terrestrial networks. As such, the quickest way to connect your remote offices or operations is by satellite, especially should you have multiple dispersed sites.

Telstra’s Global Satellite Service Coverage Illustration

Private network for multiple sites

A unique advantage of satellite delivery is that a single satellite provides coverage to a large geographical area – up to one third of the earth’s surface. This allows you to run your own private network over the satellite – with or without any connectivity to terrestrial networks. This can be achieved through your own VSAT service platforms (working as as a standalone network) or via Telstra’s Satellite Virtual Network Operator (VNO) service.

Reliability

Satellite Services are reliable as satellites are immuned to terrestrial natural disasters and man-made accidents. This makes them ideal for critical communications, either as a main service or back-up. With four teleports in geographically diverse locations (Hong Kong, Sydney, Perth and Melbourne), Telstra offers true site diversity and a range of reliable end-to-end solutions, to give you peace of mind.

Flexibility

Existing satellite circuits can be upgraded quickly without the need to replace terrestrial cables or navigate inter-telco connectivity arrangements. The wireless nature of satellite links, coupled with their wide coverage, means that migration of a satellite link from one site to another can be accomplished swiftly.

Telstra’s Satellite Services offering includes:

• Satellite Data - Satellite International Private lease, Satellite IP Trunk and VSAT Private Lease

• Satellite Teleport - Uplink/Downlink, Colocation and VNO services

• Satellite Media Services - (see also Telstra Broadcast Services)

Satellite Data

For communications unconstrained by geographical and environment limitations, look no further than Telstra’s Satellite Data Services, designed to cater to the diverse needs of our Enterprise, Government, Telecommunications and Service Provider customers.

With our own satellite teleports in Asia Pacific and partner teleports in other regions, we can provide you with global satellite connectivity no matter where you are. Telstra provides satellite services in all major commercial satellite bands (C, Ku and Ka), and we support multiple platforms and the latest technologies.

We pride ourselves in being committed to high SLA standards and working hand-in-hand with you to meet your evolving requirements – bringing critical communications not just to cities, but also to the remotest parts of the world.

From a standalone point-to-point satellite link or a bundled solution, we will find the right solution for you. Together with our network of global partners, we facilitate local licensing, provision of equipment, shipping, installation and commissioning, as well as maintenance services. With this peace of mind, you can focus on your core business.

Telstra’s Satellite Data Services are divided into the following categories:

• Satellite International Private Lease • VSAT Private Lease • Satellite IP Trunk

Our teleports and partner teleports are seamlessly connected to Telstra’s terrestrial networks – including international subsea cable systems, Internet transit, IPVPN, and voice services – to give you even greater international reach. Should you have diversified network requirements across the globe, we offer Satellite-Terrestrial hybrid connectivity to ensure the best solution for your needs.

Satellite International Private Lease

Overview

Telstra’s Satellite International Private Lease Service offers you connectivity to our complete range of voice and data network connectivity services via our satellite teleports. The solution is based on a point-to-point satellite link between any one of Telstra’s teleports and a distant end partner teleport.

At the distant end, the teleport is normally connected to our customers via a local loop.

While we employ the latest satellite technologies in the industry, our solutions are also highly cost-effective.

VSAT Private Lease

Overview

Telstra’s VSAT Private Lease Service offers customers at remote locations direct connectivity to our complete range of voice and data network connectivity services – via our satellite teleports. The solution is based on a point-to-point satellite link between any one of Telstra’s teleports and a distant end VSAT terminal located at a customer’s premises.

This solution is the ideal last mile solution for extending international voice or data connectivity to remote locations where terrestrial infrastructure has yet to be developed. With a satellite link directly to your premises, we can help you overcome any lack of telecommunication infrastructure on the ground.

Many Enterprise and Government organisations use Telstra’s VSAT Private Lease Services to connect remote offices to their own VoIP and Wide Area Networks.

Satellite IP Trunk

Overview

Telstra’s Satellite IP Trunk extends broadband Internet access right to the doorstep of our customers’ offices, regardless of geographical location. The solution is based on a point-to-point satellite link between any one of Telstra’s teleports and a distant end VSAT terminal located at a customer’s premises, or via a distant end teleport and a local loop.

Telstra’s teleports are connected to Telstra’s IP backbone, the largest in the Asia Pacific region, assuring you of reliable access to the Internet.

Our onsite engineers provide first line support on a 24/7 basis. On a case-by-case basis, we may also offer a managed installation service.

Virtual Network Operator (VNO)

Telstra hosts iDirect VNO services for customers who want to manage their own VSAT networks without large investments in teleport infrastructure. With Telstra’s VNO services, you are in full control of your own networks and remote terminals.

Telstra’s teleport and terrestrial connectivity allow customers’ VSAT network to connect seamlessly to the internet backbone or customers’ private Wide Area Networks.

Telstra’s iDirect platform supports both Infinity and Evolution solutions to suit your needs.
