Tenafly Key Clubbers, Welcome back from winter break! I hope you all had a wonderful, relaxing break (unless you were a senior-those college apps sure were terrible...) Before I welcome you to 2015, let's take a look back at December! Though the month was shortened by the break, we still had many events, including a blood drive, the holiday parade, and the Hopes for the Holidays card-making mini- service event. If we're looking back at what we were thankful for from 2014, I'm particularly thankful that our club members are so active this year. From commit- tees, to mini-service events, to just greater participation in club events, our club has seen a huge increase in member participation and enthusiasm this year. With such a strong foundation of active members, our club has the potential to continue soaring to greater heights (which I'm positive it will!) And now, welcome to 2015! If you're not as active in volunteering as you'd like to be, or if you'd like to be even more involved, I encourage you to make it your New Year's Key Club resolution to do just so! January and February are filled with events and volunteer opportunities, including the annual Fish and Chips fund- raiser and the Carnations sale. Tenafly Key Clubbers,

Welcome back from winter break! I hope you all had a wonderful, relaxing

break (unless you were a senior-those college apps sure were terrible...)

Before I welcome you to 2015, let's take a look back at December! Though

the month was shortened by the break, we still had many events, including a

blood drive, the holiday parade, and the Hopes for the Holidays card-making mini-

service event. If we're looking back at what we were thankful for from 2014, I'm

particularly thankful that our club members are so active this year. From commit-

tees, to mini-service events, to just greater participation in club events, our club has

seen a huge increase in member participation and enthusiasm this year. With such

a strong foundation of active members, our club has the potential to continue

soaring to greater heights (which I'm positive it will!)

And now, welcome to 2015! If you're not as active in volunteering as you'd

like to be, or if you'd like to be even more involved, I encourage you to make it

your New Year's Key Club resolution to do just so! January and February are filled

with events and volunteer opportunities, including the annual Fish and Chips fund-

raiser and the Carnations sale. Take advantage of these opportunities and reach

out to your fellow Key Club members and officers for advice and support!

Yours in Caring and Service,

Mabel Zhang

Club President

Key leader was probably the best weekend I've

had in a while. Being able to meet new people

who all have the same interests as you and being

able to grow as a leader as well as a person was

really great for me. I am planning on going again

next year!

Reviews from Key Clubbers

Key Leader was an amazing experience for

me! Not only did I get to meet friends that I

still keep in contact with today, I also learned

a lot about myself as an individual and

about the leadership roles in Key Club. At

first, I had doubts about going, but with the

encouragement of my fellow peers, I decid-

ed to go and I do not regret it one bit. All my

anxieties went away immediately as I real-

ized that everyone at Key Leader was just

like me - high school students who wanted to

help others. The leadership workshops in-

spired me to run for the Lieutenant Governor

position and helped me become a better

leader in general; the games and activities

were really fun; the food was delicious; alt-

hough, the weather was not exactly great,

but it didn't spoil the weekend fortunately.

Nonetheless, Key Leader was definitely a

memorable weekend and I look forward to

what new adventures it brings next time!

Fish and Chips are coming up on Tuesday, January 27th, 2015! Be pre-

pared to feast on a complete dinner for only $14 each ($12 for two

meals). Spread the word to friends and family so they too can partake

in this traditional English dinner! On that Tuesday, anyone who ordered

a mean would drop by the Tenafly High School, where Key Club volun-

teers will hand them a bag of piping hot, ready-to-eat Fish & Chips. All

funds we receive would go to the Eliminate Project. Secretary Colin

Colchamiro and Editor Adalia Wu are overseeing this event, so contact

them if you have any questions!

Get Ready for Carnations!

Love is in the air! Kind of. Soon? Be ready to surprise your special some-

one with some carnations as Valentine’s Day draws near! This annual

Key Club event requires much preparation as we tag and label and

deliver each carnation to its intended. On February 6th, sales begin as

we start advertising to the whole school. On February 12th, we will

have an event after school where we tag the carnations. On February

13th, we deliver those flowers! It is very important that many people

buy flowers from us because this is the biggest fundraiser for our club

dues. Contact Treasurer Kiana Lim for more information!

Hope for the Holidays!

On December 4th, Key Clubbers

stayed after school for a mini-

service event organized by Sam

Kurtz. A large group of us set to

work making cards for children

who were stuck in the hospital

during the holidays. Key Clubbers

worked hard, each person mak-

ing more than one card. When

we were done, we had more

than one hundred cards ready to

deliver to Englewood Hospital!

On December 18th, we had a joint event with the Teen De-

pression Awareness Club! Key Clubbers lent a hand as we

wrote out more than 1,000 post-its containing positive mes-

sages. These notes were put up on everyone’s lockers after

break for a bit of a mood lifter before we plunged into the

new school year. After the service event, several pizza pies

were ordered and many bottles of soda were cracked

open as our Super Smash Bros Tournament kicked off! Key

Clubbers had a lot of fun comparing their skills in this social

event. Tenafly High School alumni Luke Paustian eventually

wins the grand prize—a large, golden, paper belt.
