Sophomore and Junior Checklist

Continue to take challenging courses. Review requirements for graduation, college admission and collegiate athletics (www.ncaaclearinghouse.net)

Get good grades. Continue to be involved in activities, volunteer,

and seek out leadership roles. Continue documenting your activities, honors

and awards on Naviance Use College and Career Center to investigate

post-secondary opportunities Consider taking enrichment courses at a

Community College in the summer.

Sophomore Calendar

Sophomores

Sign up to hear college representative visits.

Take the PSAT. If you are enrolled in advanced courses,

consider taking a SAT Subject Test in those subjects.

Complete the Personality Inventory on Naviance which generates a list of potential careers.

Junior Calendar

Juniors October – December

Take the PSAT. Attend college representative

visits. Sign up on Naviance. Start to make a list of colleges you

are interested in learning about. Focus on your college search by

looking through any or all of the college guidebooks and/or search engines.

October – December (cont.)

Involve yourself in clubs and activities that interest you and continue to assume leadership positions.

Schedule college visits over Winter Break.

January – March Attend College Financial Planning Night at

Torrance High School on January 6th. Attend the PSAT Parent Night – January 13th. Consider taking the SAT/ACT. Take the Mock SAT/ACT at West High. Use your research of colleges, standardized

test scores, and your GPA to come up with a tentative list of schools.

Attend the TUSD College Fair on February 27th at South High School from 11 am – 2 pm.

Research valuable summer opportunities.

April – June

Prepare for standardized tests. Register for and take the May/June SAT

Reasoning Test, SAT Subject Tests, and/or ACT.

Attend Brown Bag College Workshops. Begin working on your Senior Brag

Sheet. Begin looking for scholarships. If you are

interested in playing Division I or II sports in college, register with the NCAA at www.ncaaclearinghouse.net

Summer 2010

Visit colleges. Start working on college essay(s). Start to develop your performing

or visual arts portfolio. Research additional scholarships. Spend time preparing for the

SAT/ACT.
