PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

COVID RESTRICTIONS ON SCHOOL ACTIVITIES

Parents are still unable to enter the school grounds apart from the following exceptions.

Parents of Kindergarten, Years 1 & 2 students may drop off their children each day until children are confident to enter on their own from front gate or office door.

Pick up for all children is at front gate and parents should continue to enter school grounds only if absolutely necessary or are invited to for an approved meeting.

Parents may come to the school office to attend to school business and to attend interviews with teachers. Volunteers in the school canteen, uniform shop and scripture teachers may enter the school grounds.

Anyone who enters the school grounds will need to scan the QR code, and complete an external visitor’s form and sign the visitors book if they will be on site for any period of time.

I want to thank parents for their patience during this time and for following the new procedures and keeping us all safe. We have differing procedures for a range of school activities we MUST follow and will keep you informed as each event arises.

Swimming Carnival

The Annual Swimming Carnival on Tuesday was a very successful day with great participation from our students despite the uncertain weather. Our Newling students were busy in the water all day, competing in every race possible and earning points for their house. It is wonderful that our students have a go and do their best, which made the day enjoyable for all involved.

K-2 students had a lot of fun on our school waterslide at their “Water Fun Day”.

Ribbons for Junior and Senior Swimming Champions will be presented at this weeks Gathering.

Meet the Teacher

Parents will be invited to meet our teachers to take a look around the classroom, discuss class routines and expectation, as well as hear about significant events in the class this year.

Each class will be sending home a separate invitation with details. All meetings are only allowed to run under stringent DoE Covid procedures, and we thank you in advance for following these necessary precautions.

All of teachers and our students are very proud of their rooms and the school. Amazing teaching and learning occurs every day and our students are provided with exceptional opportunities at our school that you can come along to see and hear about.

Music lessons

Our partnership with NECOM continues this year with Music lessons occurring each Wednesday.

It is wonderful to have Music prominent in the curriculum at Newling and having the expertise of Mrs Nicole Mackson to ensure every child has a wonderful experience in their music lesson each week.

Sports House Leaders

Our House Captains were elected by each house group before the Swimming Carnival. Congratulations to the 2021 House Captains:

Grevillea: Allira and Isabella

Waratah: Lilly and Michael

Bluebells: Mia and Caeden

Wattle: Phillip and Montanna

Canteen

Canteen will operate from next Friday 19th February. Our P&C are running the canteen again this year and we will need enough volunteers for roster to guarantee service every Friday. If you can help out please let us know ASAP. Just one or two days each term would be of great help so the P&C can keep canteen going.

An updated Canteen Menu will be sent out today and a copy is on school website.

Electives

Our school electives program will start on Friday with a wonderful afternoon of fun filled activities. Our students have a great variety of activities to choose from.

Electives have been hugely successful in providing exceptional learning experiences for children of all ages, with peer support and student mentoring objectives also being met through this initiative.

Scripture

Scripture lessons commence next week for all students K-6 each Tuesday.

Groups are established based on the religious education note signed by parent/carers. A new selection note needs to be signed if changes are to be made at any time.

Facebook and Website

Keep up to date with events and news at the school by liking our school Facebook page -Newling Public School. The Facebook page is updated regularly and used for last minute updates or announcements, and to share the wonderful daily happenings at our school.

We also have our school website – [email protected] – where you can access school information, our weekly Newsletter and calendar of events. Put a link on your phone to the website for easy reference and to make sure you don’t miss out on any special events.

Guitar and Piano Lessons

We have limited places available in the guitar and piano lessons for interested students.

Anyone interested in learning to play guitar or piano should let the Mr Cox know by end of the week.

Lesson cost includes hire of instrument and supply of music book. Tuition at school is at least 1/4 of the cost of lessons outside of school.

Allergies

Students at our school, and some parents suffer, from allergies that can effect their day to day lives. Allergic reactions can range from minor (eg skin rash, cough) to severe (eg anaphylaxis shock). They can be caused in many ways, from eating certain foods, to insect bites or airborne particles. Over the coming weeks we will be publishing information regarding allergies and how we can all help those who have them stay safe and healthy in our school and community.

The main rule we have at our school to prevent allergic reactions is never share food. We never know exactly every ingredient in something, so we only eat what our parents give us in our own lunchbox and never share with others.

Travel Passes

All children K-2 are eligible for free bus travel between home and school. Parents who wish to use this service need to apply online at: www. transportnsw.info/school-students. Alternatively, you can call 131 500 to apply.

All applications must be completed online or using 131 500 phone service.

Computer User Agreement

Every child in our school is allocated a computer for their personal use at school throughout the year. The computer is assigned to one child for the whole year and they have exclusive use of that particular machine. The child is then responsible for looking after that computer and we ask parents to acknowledge this by signing the computer user agreement that will be sent home this week with children in Years 3 to 6.

Please read and discuss this with your child before signing and returning to class teacher.

Change of Details

If your details have changed over the holidays ie. moved house, new phone number, updated court orders etc. Please contact the school to update your records.
