Woolworths Earn & Learn
We would love your help so please spread the word to your family and friends. Our goal this year is to get more stickers than last year so we can get even more free classroom resources than in previous years. A collection sheet will come home with each family to start with and more will be available at the office or from Woolworths. For your convenience we have a specially marked collection box at Woolworths in Lavington
Square. Please drop any stickers in here for us to collect.
Double sticker offer available 4 & 5 May 2019.
Awards There will be no assembly this week. As the hall is being utilised as a classroom while the roof is being replaced awards will be presented at 2:00pm under the COLA on Thursday 9 May, 23 May and 6 June 2019. Principal’s Post
Dear Parents and Carers, Welcome back to Term 2 and what a busy fun filled term it is shaping up to be. During the holidays Mrs Louise Phegan from KP, accepted a permanent position at Albury West PS as a targeted graduate. We will definitely miss her as part of our kinder team and staff. Miss Rebecca Coldan will be teaching KP for the remainder of the year with the support of Miss Kel-low (K-2 Assistant Principal / Instructional Leader). This term staff and students will need to be flexible around the roof works that began in the holidays. The roofers are working as quick as they can to minimise disruption to learning. The library and the hall will be used as alternative classrooms while the building works are happening. During this time the library will be closed at lunch times and Mrs Jennings will be running a mobile library. Each week we will put a notice in the newsletter to inform parents of where their child’s class will be during this time. More good news on improving our school grounds,. Over the holidays our hall had an upgrade to the sound system to support students with hearing impairments and to have more efficiencies during our assemblies. Our basketball court will also have a makeover in the coming weeks by being resurfaced to accommodate basketball, netball and volleyball. With tradespeople, safety fencing and equipment on site, it is important that all students, staff and community follow the rules to stay safe during this construction phase. Looking forward to a great Term 2. Mrs Nic Williams Principal

‘Mobile Library’ gets books out and read during
new roof build From: Mrs Jennings
I am camping out of the library as a ‘Mobile Librarian’ while classes use the library space
during the times their classroom rooves are constructed.
My camping grounds are the student’s usual classrooms. I am delivering books to classrooms on a
‘Mobile Library’ trolley complete with the songs of Mr. Whippy. I have chosen this song collection
because when I go camping I always read a book and get excited by the sound of Mr. Whippy’s
ice-cream truck.
At the classroom learning campsite, students will continue to develop literacy skills with a focus on
deep comprehension skills and critical thinking about text. Stage 1 students will enjoy camping
using the Australian Museum’s ‘Museum in a Box’ collection of wild animal resources.
As I have wheeled the mobile library trolley around the school this week, I have looked up at the
construction of the roof and thought ‘Gee it looks good! I absolutely don’t mind camping!’
Library lunch
During the roof construction, library lunch won’t operate. However, that won’t stop our students
from being great readers! The mobile library trolley and story-telling sessions will be run at
lunchtime by our Year 6 Library Mentors.
Below: A ‘Mobile Librarian’ on horseback in the 1930’s. I would also enjoy riding to class!

Opportunity Class Placement 2020 - Year 5 Opportunity classes cater for academically gifted and talented students who may otherwise be without suf-ficient classmates at their own academic and social level. These schools help gifted and talented students to learn by grouping them with other gifted and talented students, teaching them in specialised ways and providing educational materials at the appropriate level.
Applications for opportunity class placement are considered mainly on the combined results of the Oppor-tunity Class Placement Test and school assessments. The Opportunity Class Placement Test will be held on Wednesday 31 July 2019.
The closest Opportunity Class is in Wagga Wagga. If you would like to have your child considered for Year 5 opportunity class entry in 2020, you need to apply soon. You will need to apply on the internet using a valid email address (not the student’s email address).
Detailed instructions on how to apply online will be available from Tuesday 30 April 2019 at https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/selective-high-schools-and-opportunity-classes/year-5
The application website opens on Tuesday 30 April 2019 and closes on Friday 17 May 2019. You must apply by the due date.

Positive Behaviour for Learning Update Positive Behaviour for Learning is an important focus at Lavington East Public School as an evidence and
research based means of improving all aspects of student well being.
This year we have established a new team that has already undertaken initial training to ensure deep under-
standing and knowledge of effective implementation and communication, with all stakeholders.
Last term the PBL team surveyed all staff to identify where we were in relation to our current
understandings and implementation of PBL across all settings in our school. Students were also surveyed to
support our assessment of PBL.
From this survey we now intend to review our existing school values of Effort, Respect and Responsibility.
Staff, students and the school community will also be involved in this journey as the term and year
progresses.
The PBL team is also supported by our Regional PBL Coordinator, Anne Dobson.
Stay tuned via facebook, email and our newsletter for regular updates on what is happening.
