Last week I mentioned about the need for a greater effort by Batlow technology students in

wearing the correct school uniform. There has been a noticeable improvement since then.

This week on assembly, students who still have difficulty in wearing the correct uniform will

need to explain their individual concerns with myself. The staff realise that at times there

are circumstances which prevent students from wearing items of school clothing. If a

situation arises where a student is out of uniform then a note is required from home

outlining the reason.

This week I have become aware that a greater awareness in student personal safety is

required by the students in both primary and secondary.

There are a number of banned items identified that have no place in any NSW school. The

most common occurrence is that of aerosol cans. For most students, the use of deodorant is

a daily activity. Unfortunately the aerosols involved, provide both a physical risk and health

risk to others using the school site. We encourage deodorants, but only in the roll-on form.

I would appreciate if this message could be discussed within the family to improve the

school environment for all students.

A list of banned items will be posted within the school over coming weeks.

Every student has the right to attend school and enjoy learning in a safe environment. The

school protects these rights beyond the school gates, which includes travelling to and from

school. Whether on a bus, walking or riding a bike students are protected. Obviously staff

are unable to be everywhere in these situations, so we rely on parents, students and

members of the public to forward any concerns to the school where they will be followed

up.

The Cross-Country was another success this year. Thank you to all of our Batlow Technology

Staff.

I would like to state that we are most fortunate to have the team of dedicated teachers and

staff at Batlow Technology School. There is never a shortage of hands when help is

required.

The assembly this week will be conducted by members of the SRC. I welcome all parents to

the assembly and hope you can attend.

Mr Greg Hodges

Relieving Principal

The capacity to learn is a gift;

The ability to learn is a skill;

The willingness to learn is a choice.

What resources can you use to make an apology?

This week, students learnt about what makes an apology. They were given a list of

ingredients for an effective apology and ways of sticking up for yourself.

Students found a partner and role played situations where they could apologise effectively

and Primary students drew scenarios of ways you can stick up for yourself. Apologies resolve

problems and make the victim feel at ease.

LIFE EDUCATION VAN

The Life Education Van has been visiting Batlow

Technology School over the past week. Students in the

Primary Department were given valuable lessons in life

skills and were excited to interact with “Healthy Harold”.

Aeden Anderson and Jim Howell are pictured getting

acquainted with “Healthy Harold”.

K/1 MOTHERS DAY ACTIVITY This year for Mother’s Day the students in

Miss McRorie’s K/1 class made some clay

beads. The students each made four beads

by hand especially for their Mum. Miss

McRorie baked the beads in the oven so

they set hard. The students then used their

beading skills to make them into beautiful

necklaces for their Mums.

We hope all the Mums in our school

community had a lovely Mother’s Day.

9/10 DEBATING REPORT

On Wednesday, the 9/10 Debating team had their first round against Murray High School. The topic

for this debate was that ‘all schools should have CCTV cameras where students congregate’. It was

an intriguing and interesting debate which showcased our students public speaking abilities.

Unfortunately, the Batlow Technology School team did not win the first round, however we have

another two rounds to work on improving our debating skills.

Special thanks to,

Mrs Fiona Cooper and

Anneque Machella for

adjudicating.

Pictured are the 9/10 Debating

team, Harmony Simpson,

Brendan Larson, Kate Kynaston

and Emma Kynaston.
