Mr Wawszkowicz will be supporting other schools in our area to self-assess school improvements in line with School Excellence between Monday and Wednesday this week. All NSW public schools invest in designing, driving and assessing improvements with a view to achieving and sustaining excellence. Our school principal will be part of a panel of educators who consider and provide feedback to selected schools about their current progress. This is one of the ways public schools work together to maintain transparency and consistency about school improvement across schools in New South Wales. After school this afternoon, teachers will continue to update their expertise in teaching literacy and numeracy. This professional learning is essential in developing strategies to assess, teach and review student progress in literacy and numeracy. This is part of our ongoing work that we committed to in our school plan to tailor teaching and learning activities that are appropriate for all students. Well done to our netballers who Page 1 participated in the Riverina Open Netball Knockout. Sport events will continue up to the end of term with Zone Athletics and Under 15’s AFL taking place this week. Congratulations to our dancers who represented our school by participating in the Riverina Dance Festival last Friday. You worked persistently to choreograph and perfect your routines as well as planning costumes that were inclusive yet dramatic. Thank you also to Mrs Preston who ensured everything ran smoothly and spent many hours of her own time to showcase our school. NAIDOC Assembly Next week, on Monday July 1, we will hold a NAIDOC Assembly to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The theme for 2019 is Voice. Treaty. Truth. Let’s work together for a shared future. Voice, treaty and truth were the three key elements to the reforms set out in the Uluru Statement from the Heart. This theme represents the work that we still need to carry out in our community to truthfully engage in conversations with Aboriginal and Torres Monday 24th June 2019 Term 2 Week 9A BILLABONG HIGHLIGHTS Relieving Principal Billabong High School Dance Ensemble

Riverina Dance Festival Last week, 17 students headed to Griffith to perform in the 2019 Riverina Dance Festival. The Festival is a very prestigious event that encourages the pursuit of excellence in dance, provides an opportunity for talented dance students to engage in quality performance in a professional venue and provides opportunities for schools to showcase their dance programs.Billabong’s item, ‘Lost Boys’ was performed at both a matinee and Page 2

evening performance and was well received by the audience. All the students put their nerves and reservations aside to perform brilliantly representing Billabong proudly and demonstrating the fact they deserved their position in the event. Thank you to the parents who made the long trip to sit in the audience and watch and support our troupe. Riverina Open Netball Knockout On Friday the 21st of June, our open’s netball side travelled to Wagga for an all opens netball competition against local schools. Along-side our coach Mrs. Terlich, Charlee Kleine, Amelia Edwards, Freya Mackinlay, Caitlyn Wardius, Georgia Way, Claudia Grogan, Millie Walsh, Millie Kohlhagen and Rachael Galvin were in for a day with freezing weather and competitive teams. Only having two defenders and six shooters proved to not be a concern for our team, with every girl stepping up to fulfil their positions. After losing one game, drawing one and winning three, we unfortunately did not make finals, although every girl is to be commended for their efforts and determination. Caitlyn Wardius had a fantastic day switching from attack to defence and winning overall MVP. We would like to thank Cindy Wardius, our umpire for the day, Nicole Edwards (strapper) and Colleen Kleine (scorer).
