FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK It has been a very quiet fortnight up here on the hill, which has allowed for lots of learning to take place. We are on the downward stretch to the school holidays which is very exciting. Aged Care Online Collaboration We have been kindly asked to participate in an aged care program linking the elderly with the students at our school. Topics may include generation changes, education then and now, technology changes, school games and curriculum. Students will also be given the opportunity to come up with some topics/conversation starters of their own. The collaboration will take place via an online platform and is due to occur next term during Education Week (Term 2 Week 3). Further information will be provided early next term, however, if you do not wish for your child to participate in this program, please contact me to discuss. Afternoon routine changes Parents/carers are asked to make a phone call to the school to advise if your child’s afternoon routine is changed. Giving this information via email is not sufficient as Mrs Flaherty is not in the office every day. Also if I am on class teaching I do not get time to check the school email. Making a quick call during the day saves on confusion and stress at home time. Thank you for your cooperation with this. Mrs McMahon Principal

FROM THE COMMUNITY
AW ARD RECIPIENTS
Students have been working very diligently the past few weeks and have been taking on all work in their stride. We have been working hard on our handwriting, which is a class goal at the moment. Students are encouraged to produce quality work, including the presentation of their bookwork with margins and neat handwriting. Handwriting lessons have consisted of Year 3 students beginning the early phase of cursive writing, which includes entry and exit flicks on some letters. Year 4 have been joining the entry and exit flicks onto other letters and year 5 have been practising the size and slope of their letters to ensure it is of consistent size. Students are thoroughly enjoying our whiteboard tables and they have been very handy in explicitly teaching a variety of concepts. I have been very impressed of all students’ efforts in identifying a variety of contractions. When reading our class novel on Wednesday we identified 15 contractions over two pages! Students were shocked that there were so many! Mrs McMahon

UPDATE ON LEARNING K -2 & K -5 FRIDAY
This fortnight, K-2 have engaged deeply in descriptive writing. Using images, the student’s have been brainstorming adjectives and then incorporating them into descriptive sentences. In science, we have begun looking at how different materials can negatively affect the marine environment. The students conducted an experiment to discover that oil and water do not mix together, leading to a discussion of what the affects of a large oil spill would be in the marine environment. Our next class research investigation is how to separate oil from feathers. We have also been researching fun ‘did you know?’ facts about the ocean to link with our science unit. The K-5 class have been thoroughly enjoying Friday STEM challenges. We have completed the same challenge two weeks in a row, to see if we can make the necessary adjustments to improve our product. The student’s created a raft using only paddle pop sticks, tape and straws and tested to see how many dice it could hold. It was very interesting to observe each teams adjustments and they should all be proud of the work that has been produced. Mr Hartmann

education.nsw.gov.au
In line with health advice, schools are operating full time, and many additional activities are now able to recommence All schools have returned to full-time on-campus learning. With updated health advice and changes to state and national restrictions, schools are able to recommence the majority of school-based activities from either 15 June 2020 or the start of Term 3 (20 July 2020). Some activities are continuing to be considered.
The following principles underpin these guidelines:
• schools continue to be safe and operationsare in line with Australian Health ProtectionPrincipal Committee (AHPPC) and NSWHealth guidelines
• existing infection control protocols at schools, and new health and safety measures put inplace will help maintain the health and safetyof students and staff
• all activities permitted at school are safeand appropriate in a living with COVID-19environment.
School students do not need to follow strict adult physical distancing guidelines, but should follow good hygiene practices like:
• regularly washing hands• avoiding sharing drinks or food• coughing or sneezing into your elbow, or a
tissue which should be discarded immediately• filling water bottles from bubblers rather than
using the bubbler directly.
School attendance
All students should be at school unless:
• they have a medical certificate which statesthat they are unable to return to school dueto an ongoing medical condition and theexpected timeframe

Physical distancing
Physical distancing of children in schools is not required under the Australian HPPC guidelines. Research has shown limited transmission risk associated with school children in the school environment.
