Respect, Responsibility, Resilience Dear Parents/Carers COVID-19 Update School Attendance - Students should be at school unless: They have a medical certificate, which states they are unable to return to school due to an ongoing medical condition and include the expected time frame. If and when a negative result is obtained, please email a screen shot of the results, including your child’s FULL NAME and CLASS to the class teacher 3. When your child is symptom free, they may return to school. Kindergarten Enrolments 2021 Due now. Please complete an online enrolment form now or contact our school for further assistance. The Department of Education enrolment form can be found here: https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/going-to-a-public-school/enrolment/primary-school-enrolment Further information can be found on our website: https://oakhilldr-p.schools.nsw.gov.au/about-our-school/enrolment.html Thank you I’d like to thank the community for diligently working with us to ensure the safety of all. Parents have been keeping their children at home as sniffles emerge and have kept them at home until negative C-19 results are determined. This is similar with our staff. Teachers remain diligent about their health and remain at home when cold like symptoms appear. The flow on effect here is that we require more casual teachers in their absence. Many of these casual teachers are known to our school and are able to easily fit in and maintain learning and wellbeing in our classrooms. R U OK? Day/Modified Cross Country Another great day for our students and staff, living the learning of positive wellbeing. Our students from K-6 focus on the five aspects of Wellbeing, which we refer to as SPECS (Social, Physical, Emotional, Cognitive and Spiritual). In order to be considered "well," it is imperative that all aspects are addressed. In addition, our students are taught to identify their strengths, think optimistically, show gratitude and kindness. The recent R U OK? Day served to consolidate and put into practice learning on SPECS. Not just learning it, but living it. A reminder that our website, includes valuable information about all areas of our wellbeing program. Our website https://oakhilldr-p.schools.nsw.gov.au/positive-education.html and may be useful to broaden your understanding of wellbeing. Betty Ploeg Principal Planning This week, our regular programs (Science & Technology, Library) are suspended so that all teachers can collaboratively plan units of learning for Term 4. Together, teachers will identify the essential learning required based on syllabus outcomes and student needs to prepare worthwhile learning sequences. Assessment tasks where students do, make, show or represent selected skills will be developed. The purpose of these tasks is firstly to provide feedback to inform teaching and learning and also to gain evidence for Semester reports. They will also use this time to develop resources to engage and support learning for every student. We thank our staff’s flexibility with our timetables to provide this valuable collaborative time.

Instructional Rounds This term, our school has supported two schools in our network, Berowra PS and Normanhurst PS through professional learning in Instructional Rounds. Our teams learn about best practice, make lesson observations, review data to determine trends and make recommendations to support the schools to improve their practice, with the goal of improving student outcomes. Whilst we are currently unable to visit other schools and undergo observations in person, we are fortunate that we can use technology to continue learning together virtually. Next term, our network colleagues will complete the same process for our school. By using the collective expertise across schools, we are able to use this evidence to drive our teacher learning for continual improvement, ensuring we are having the greatest impact on student outcomes.

SCHOOLTV SPECIAL REPORT: Celebrating Father’s Day Father’s Day was last weekend and this Special Report from SchoolTV highlights how the role of fathers has changed dramatically over the centuries and the positive impact they can have on their children’s mental health. It is also a gentle reminder for them to ensure their own wellbeing and seek help if necessary. For many years now, the role of fathers has changed and evolved. During the industrial revolution, fathers were often considered detached and distant due to working long hours in factories. However, today things have changed dramatically with many dads being celebrated for being sensitive, caring and more hands-on. Recent studies have shown that children benefit greatly from having fathers who are present and interacting in everyday activities. This has transformed the understanding of how fathers shape children’s lives from the start, challenging conventional ideas of parenthood and gender. Research also suggests that fathers influence their sons and daughters in different ways, which is especially true during their transition to adolescence. Engaging in regular physical activities can play a key role in influencing children to learn self-control, face challenges, regulate emotions and take manageable risks. In this Special Report, fathers will learn about the positive impact they can have on their child’s mental health and wellbeing, whilst also ensuring they indulge in a little self-care. We hope you take time to reflect on the information offered in this Special Report, and as always, we welcome your feedback. If you do have any concerns about the wellbeing of your child, please contact the school for further information or seek medical or professional help. R U OK Day at Oakhill Drive Last Thursday, Oakhill Drive was awash with yellow. balloons, banners, t-shirts and hats. This reminded us that we need to check in on each other and ask “R U OK?”. Not just on this day, but every day. The important messages that were discussed in classrooms included the signs to look for in others that show that they may not be ok and how, where and when to start a conversation.

All students added a hand to the R U OK? display writing the names of 5 people on the fingers they could go to for help, or 5 people that they could check in with and help.

Together we R OK!

Students also expressed their gratitude to our local essential workers by writing letters of appreciation and making colourful thank you posters. Look for these displayed at the local shops, doctor’s surgeries, preschools etc. Remember to ask someone you know… R U OK? They will feel better and so will you!! Helen Paris Deputy Principal

Tournament of Minds (TOM) is an Australian educational program challenging the world to develop problem solving skills. TOM offers teams of primary and secondary students the opportunity to solve authentic, open-ended challenges that foster creative, divergent thinking whilst developing collaborative enterprise, excellence and teamwork. This year ODPS trialled a new approach to the implementation of the ‘Tournament of Minds’ competition. Students of 3W, 4D, 5P and 6B were involved in the trial throughout term 3. Within allocated class time, the students engaged in a variety of mini problem-solving challenges that provided them with the opportunity to enhance their critical and creative thinking skills. The mini challenges prepared the students for an ultimate online SUPER CHALLENGE. Congratulations to all students. Seven Teams made it through to the finals. We wish the following teams the best of luck as they eagerly await to receive their results for their responses to the Super Challenge! Congratulations to;
