PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

Welcome back students, staff and families. We look

forward to another fantastic school year.

Swimming Carnival Congratulations to all participants in last week’s

swimming carnival. It was a fantastic day and

enthusiasm and behaviour was excellent on the day.

A big thank you to Mrs Hinchley for her

organisation and running of the carnival, it ran like

clockwork as always. Well done!

Year Advisor Last year teachers were asked to nominate their

interest for the year advisor position in secondary.

Congratulations to Mr Knight who was successful

in his application.

Welcome Welcome to our new staff and students for 2020. It

is fabulous to see so many new faces in our

playground and we know you will find a welcoming

community at Tullamore Central School.

House Captains Congratulations to Macquarie captains Beau

McMahon, Imogen Williams, Charlie Harvey and

Ava Curr. Lachlan captains Ellie Williams, Riley

Horsburgh, Mackenzie Horsburgh and Jeffrey

McLean on your nominations and elections for

2020. I know you will do your houses proud by

representing them to the best of your ability this

year.

Western Access Program Camp Our senior students will be attending Western

Access Program camp later this week. Thank you to

those who have their notes in on time. Please make

sure that you are organised and at school on time for

departure to camp.

Principal

PRIMARY PIECES

Welcome back everyone, and a special welcome to

all our new students and families. We are looking

forward to a great year. Please remember to read the

newsletter each week and ‘like’ and ‘follow’ our

Facebook page, lots of important information is

shared this way.

PRIMARY ASSEMBLY

The Primary Assemblies will be held on Wednesday

afternoons this year. They will be at 2:30pm and

usually in the K/1/2 room. Each term each class will

host an assembly. Dates for this term will be

confirmed very soon.

K/1/2 News Hi everyone – welcome back. I am looking forward

to another busy and great year. Today a note

regarding class organisation was given to your

children, please check their bags for this. A day for

our Library borrowing is to be confirmed, please

stay tuned!

Homework was sent home with Years 1 and 2

yesterday – spelling and reading. Please return

spelling homework on Friday and readers daily for

changing. Kindergarten will take home their sounds

book this week also.

Have a great week and please contact the school if

you have any questions.

K/1/2 Classroom Teacher

Year 3/4

Welcome back everyone, to what is going to be a

very busy school term.

This week the students will have spelling homework

and their 2 x tables. I am a strong believer in the

importance of learning times tables facts. Please

encourage your child to learn these and test them at

home. A times table chart at home would be very

beneficial, especially for the Year 3 students. It

would be great if you could cover your child’s

homework book to protect it and help keep the

cover on. Homework is due on Fridays.

We will start Mathletics activities next week.

Please ensure your child is reading for at least 10

minutes each night. This can be completed together

with a shared book at home or by listening to your

child read aloud. Students have borrowed from the

library and should have a book that they have taken

home. If your child has books at home that they like

to read this is fine as long as they are reading!

A class note and timetable will be sent home later in

the week.

Communication is very important, please contact

me at school if you have any concerns or questions.

Kind Regards

Belinda Lindsay

Year 5/6

Welcome back to another exciting year of fun and

learning. I look forward to working with you and

your children in 2020! Last week students were

given a class note and timetable. Please refer to this

in regards to weekly routines and homework. If you

have any questions please contact the office.

SECONDARY NEWS

Welcome to Week 3.

It has been a hectic start to the term already for our

students, with settling in to new timetables and for

Year 11 starting a whole new way of studying. Our

HSC students are getting back into routine and

starting on the new terms work.

Western Access Program Camp 2020

On Wednesday morning we head off to Access

Camp at Burrendong. Students attending for the full

duration will be departing Tullamore Central School

at 6:30am on Wednesday morning. If students could

be ready at the front of the school at 6:15am to pack

the bus so that we can depart on time. Any students

that need to be picked up along the Narromine Road

need to let Miss Shankelton know and we will

organise pick up sites and times with you. Students

have received a camp pack on Thursday last week

which has their packing lists and also their camp

timetables. Students will return via bus with Mrs

Hinchley on Friday and it is anticipated they will

return by 3:00pm. We look forward to a fabulous

camp with Year 11 students getting to meet their

teachers and class mates for the first time and Year

12 working towards their HSC with their course

coordinators.

Shoe Reminder

Just a reminder to secondary students that you need

to ensure that you have enclosed leather shoes for

science and technology subjects. This is a WHS

requirement. Students are encouraged to wear their

correct shoes to school and bring their joggers for

when they have PE. For students studying

Agriculture and Primary Industries in stage 4 – 6

students need to ensure that they also have a hat for

practical lessons.

Writing in Secondary

Students in secondary will be focusing on

improving their writing this year. Data from our

PAT results, Minimum Standards testing and

NAPLAN indicate that this is an area where our

students need extension. Staff are receiving training

in teaching subject specific writing skills and Mr

Knight and Miss Shankelton will be leading the

implementation of the program. This project also

ties in with the Year 7 Best Start Writing Pilot that

all Year 7 students will be participating in. Staff

will be completing further training in analysing

writing scripts to see where students are currently at

on the literacy progressions and what is needed to

move them forward as the year progresses. At times

students will need to complete writing tasks at home

as homework and we are looking at running a

session with secondary parents about helping their

students with writing skills later in the term on a

date to be advised.

Thank You

Thank you to our students who have made a

positive start to the year. I have heard from several

staff about the fantastic attitude to learning that

students have shown. Keep up the great work

everyone!

AGRICULTURE IN ACTION

What a beautiful start to the term with 60mm of

rain!! Hopefully our vegetable plots will be back up

and producing soon, along with our student’s crop

trials using blue popping corn. The hot house will

be planted out with tomatoes this year, which means

there will be some beautiful fresh tomatoes

available later in the term. Please watch this space

for produce available for purchase.

Wanted – Cans & Bottles

As part of our fundraising for the Agriculture

program we will be collecting the 10c return cans

and bottles. No need to sort them as we will do

this!! Cans and bottles can be dropped in to the Ag

plot area where there are two bins labelled Cans and

Plastic Bottles and Glass Bottles.

Show Team Practices

Permission notes will go out next week for students

in the junior and senior show squads. The first show

for 2020 is Bathurst Royal Show, which will be in

the April school holidays. Information about this

will go out soon for senior squad.

Return of Tully’s Cackleberries

Our eggs will be back in production later in the

year. Our old girls have been sent to the chook

retirement home, where if they only produce an egg

a week it is not an issue. All of our girls were five

years old which is generally the end of a productive

life of a laying chook. They are currently living out

the rest of their days happy in a veggie patch and

orchard and their only job is to keep the bugs down.

Stage 5 will be completing a poultry unit later in the

year and they will be working with our new chooks

to produce quality eggs for sale.

SPORT

Please refer to Term at a Glance for upcoming

sporting events.

Swimming Carnival 2020

Thank you to all the students, parents, staff and

community members that came along to support our

swimming carnival. It was a fantastic day with the

students proving to be super fish in the pool. It was

pleasing to see so many students get involved in so

many events. I was even more excited to see

students racing for the very first time.

Congratulations must go to the parents for winning

the staff v parent v student relay. Thank you to

those parents who put their hand up and

participated. It always makes for a great finish to

the day and having new faces in this event is

certainly welcome! Every year I say this but I am so

proud of our students and how much effort they put

in. Well done to everyone who came along.

This year was another close call for the house

champion trophy which went to LACHLAN. There

was not much in it so the difference will come into

play if Macquarie can get one back at either the

Cross Country or athletics carnival. We also had

one record broken on the day by Paris Curr breaking

the 25m Freestyle. A fantastic effort!!

The following students gained age champion in

their division:

Junior Primary – Kharliah Parry,

Tristan Laing

11yr Primary – Imogen Williams,

Clyde Carey

Senior Primary – Lara Powell,

Riley Horsburgh

Junior Secondary – Ava Curr, Jack Bye

Senior Secondary – Charlotte Darcy,

William McLean

Thank you also to Leanne, Lachlan and Michelle for

all the work they do to ensure the carnival is a

success. It is always very much appreciated!

District Swimming

Primary students who have qualified for the district

swimming carnival were handed out permission

notes yesterday. Please ensure these are returned to

the office as soon as possible. Please note that

students will pay their entry money on the day, so

this does not need to come into the office.

Pool Sport

Primary (years 3-6) and secondary students will be

back at the pool this week for sport. Students have

been handed permission notes and these are

requested to be returned to the office as soon as

possible. On sport days please ensure that you bring

your swimmers, towel, sunscreen and hat.

Cassie Hinchley

Sports Coordinator

A BIG welcome back to all of our wonderful

students! We are looking forward to another

exciting year and encourage students to have a

labelled library bag ready for class borrowing.

Students are welcome to visit the library at

lunchtime to escape the hot weather and read,

colour in, play games and use the computers.

All students using the library are reminded to be

respectful and responsible with equipment as well

as being cooperative and honest to others as we

sometimes have many students in the library.

A few reminders

* The library is a drink and food free zone.

* The library is open at lunch on Mondays,

Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Have a lovely week
