Week 5 Term 4, 2011 Principals Report Dear Parents/Caregivers, Remembrance Day This Friday we pause to remember all of the service men and women who gave their lives while serving Australia in wars, conflicts and peace operations. We are forever grateful and will never forget those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Applications for Selective High Schools in 2013 Online applications are open until 21 November 2011 for parents or carers of Year 5 students who wish their children to be considered for placement in Year 7 at a selective high school in 2013. You can find it at: www.schools.nsw.edu.au/shsplacem ent. Hard copy application forms are also available from the school and must be returned by 18 November. If you have any questions about the selective high school placement process please call 9707 6262 or email: [email protected]. Christmas Raffle Mufti Also on Friday, students are invited to attend school wearing red and/or green colours. Students wishing to participate are asked to donate a gift/prize for our annual P & C Christmas raffle. Have your say… You can now have your say on the classrooms of the future. Parents are encouraged to participate in an online survey as part of a comprehensive review of the School Facilities Standards. The standards, developed during the 1970s, outline how school facilities are designed and built. The review will determine the relevance and appropriateness of the standards for teaching and learning in the 21 st century. The review will consider changes in the way education is delivered, technological advances and increased community expectations. To have your say go to the parent online survey: http://www.surveymonkey.com/sfsp arent Musical Tickets - Blue Ribbon Belle Tickets are selling fast for our annual musical performances. With only a handful of tickets available for both Wednesday and Thursday night, we ask that you get in early to avoid disappointment. New Red School Shirts Orders are being taken for our fantastic new red school shirts. The first batch of shirts should arrive any day now and we look forward to seeing them start to appear in our playground. Don’t forget that students will be able to wear either their white or red shirts throughout 2012. We anticipate that the transition will be complete by the start of the 2013 school year. Our Friday sports shirts will remain the same. Ode of the Week The Ode of Remembrance… ‘They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them.’ An excerpt from ‘For the Fallen’, a poem by the English poet and writer Laurence Binyon. Did you know? On 11/11/11 at 11:11.11am it will be the first time in one hundred years that we will have seen that date and time. “We will remember them.” Mark Kyrwood Relieving Principal PRESENTATION DAY When: Monday 12 th Dec. 9.15 am Where:Morisset High School Hall Why: To recognise our students for their achievements in 2011.
