It is a fantastic project that we are looking forward to displaying. Well done to our students and thank you to Monica Bridge for her great initiative and support. Year 12 Formal The Year 12 Formal took place on Friday 15 November, starting at Memorial Park for photos and then moving to the RSL club for dinner and presentations. It was a lovely evening and a great way to send off such a wonderful group of students. A huge thank you to the parents and Year 12 students who worked so hard in the organisation and set up of the formal. Tabletop Gamers Success Our Tabletop Gamers are going from strength to strength thanks to their hard work and Mr Wilson’s continued support and encouragement. Tabletop gaming involves the use of hand painted figurines that battle using the roll of a special dice on a table top playing surface. Our school team is well on the way to being the most successful team in NSW/ACT, and is supported by the Games Workshop in Canberra. We are really looking forwad to seeing how far they can go in their competition and thank Mr Wilson for his commitment to our students and this activity. Remembrance Day Service As 11 November was a school day, our school commemorated the day in two ways. As most students were at school and had examinations, our school observed a minute’s silence to honour those who had fallen. Our School Captains, and students involved in the Belgian Embassy project, attended the Remembrance Day Ceremony in Crookwell. Our Captains had the honour of reading the Names of the Fallen, and all our students were great ambassadors for our school. Many thanks to the Crookwell RSL Sub-branch for involving our school leaders in such a significant way for these commemorations. Year 11 Interviews Mrs Peters and Mrs McCormack have completed interviews with Year 11 students and their parents and carers. These interviews are designed to support students ensuring their HSC pathway is meaningful and reflects their goals and strengths. It also allows for planning to support the needs of our students and for parents to be involved with this planning. This was the last set of year group interviews for 2019 and we will start afresh in 2020 for all students. Legacy Thanks Each Legacy Appeal Day, Crookwell High School support the sale of badges with a small team of students assisting on the day. Our school is grateful for our association with Legacy, and we are very proud of the students who sell badges and do so with such respect. At Assembly this week, we were able to hand out Certificates of Appreciation from Legacy to those students involved. Deputy’s ReportTo enrich the learning of our students and build their understanding of opportunities that are available to them we often have guest speakers to the school to share their experiences.

Year 9 and 10 students were part of the Olympics Unleashed program. This program takes Olympians and NSWIS Athletes into NSW schools to inspire and motivate young Australians ahead of Tokyo 2020.

Nathan Katz is a Judo Olympian. He shared his sporting career with the students. The challenges he faced and how he overcame these challenges. Nathan competed at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games and was ranked number 2 Junior in the world in 2015.

Nathan also showed a digital presentation of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

Crookwell High School students had the opportunity to ask Nathan questions about his sporting experiences and about the concept of personal best.

LOTEYear 7 French have been learning how to express opinions about sport and hobbies. They have created some colourful posters to share their opinions. All students made a solid effort in completing their recent French examination. They should be proud of how much they have learnt this semester.

On Monday 2 December, we will be feasting our eyes on the wonderful French artworks on display in the National Gallery Canberra. Next stop will be a chance to feast on some international treats at the Burns Club Lunch Buffet. Bon appetit!!

National Young Leaders DayOn Monday 4 November, Crookwell High School SRC attended the National Young Leaders Conference in Sydney at Darling Harbour. The day started at 5:30am catching the train from Goulburn station and concluded at 7:30pm back at Goulburn station. The Young Leaders Conference included four speakers: John Coutis who “speaks to millions worldwide about life without the lower half of his body” and how to set goals and have direction look for a purpose to your life and find your strengths. Bianca Catfiell, former Australian Netball Captain and popular contestant on “The Block”, spoke about following your dreams and setting goals and how to ride the highs and lows of life both in sporting areana and a personal nature. Erin Molan, one of Australia’s most significant voices in sport and television, spoke about never giving up on your goals, giving the example of applying for over 100 jobs as a television presenter and achieving this goal by being the first woman to have full time employment with the “Footy Show”, and also presents a radio show. Lachlan Smart, the youngest person to fly solo around the world spoke about how he made it happen and what it took to achieve his goals.

The students that attended the conference were excited and pleased to have had the opportunity to attend the day and learned a lot from the presenters. They are hoping to use some of the skills they did learn to help all students at our school achieve their goals.

Misplaced and MartyredCrookwell High School’s Year 12 Band, “Misplaced and Martyred” (Aidan O’Brien, Thomas Wilcox-Symons, James Clements, Griffyn Bachta and Oscar Rose) received another accolade from the Mary Gilmore Festival organisers. This talented CHS Band was voted by the committee as the Best Ensemble performers (adult and student) for the entire weekend, demonstrating advanced technical and presentation skills. “Misplaced and Martyred” have donated their two trophies to the Music Room to inspire junior performers. Well done lads!

Local professional photographer, Mr Chris O’Brien donated a fantastic collage of photos to the school which documented the“Misplaced and Martyred” Youth Rock experience last term. This fantastic piece of digital art is now proudly on display in Mr Joseph’s office. Be sure to check it out next time you visit Mr Joseph. Thanks to Chris for his creativity and genorosity.

Hume Conservatorium 2020 Scholarship RecipientsTwo of our talented music students decided to take on the challenge of auditioning for the prestigious 2020 Hume Conservatorium Scholarships. They prepared two contrasting compositions and played these in an examination situation for two visiting Conservatorium Directors. Both students represented Crookwell High School and their families with pride. Congratulations to Misha O’Brien who was awarded “The Blake Sheridan 2020 Scholarship” as a vocalist and congratulations to Aidan O’Brien who was awarded “The Cappo’s Garage 2020 Scholarship” as a bass guitarist.Well done Misha and Aidan.

Junior students shine in KAOS Production “In Hot Pursuit”Recently seven of our CHS muscians performed in the KAOS production”In Hot Pursuit” with Year 7 students, Levi Woods and Rohan Gamble performing in lead roles. The boys were fantastic on the stage and quickly became favourites with the enthusiastic audience. Their natural banter and comedic timing were impressive. Levi and Rohan were joined by Imogen Roberts who shone in the courtroom scene and Jo Anderson who delivered the ‘news’ with conviction. Abby Woods, Jasmine Palmer and Marlee Seaman were also in the production and contributed strongly to the vocals, comedy and the drama. It was a wonderful musical which was written and directed by Mr Peter Stephens who really knows how to get the best out of young actors and singers. We were all thoroughly entertained. Crookwell High School staff and students value the performanceopportunities that the Crookwell Amateur Dramatic Society (CADS) and KAOS (Kids Acting on Stage) provide. Thank you CADS and KAOS.Well done everyone!

PROSPER PROGRAM GUEST SPEAKERSYear 8 students were lucky to have two speakers present to them in their PROSPER lesson on Friday 8 November. Lachlan Croker, NRL player and Crookwell born and bred, spoke to the boys about his journey through school and becoming a NRL player. He spoke of his upsets along the way (4 major surgeries) and how his support network and positive mindset was able to get him through the tough times. Meanwhile the girls had time talking to Dr Opie about health and wellbeing, having a laugh and learning about the trials and tribulations of being female. The students benefited from both visitors, and we look forward towelcoming more speakers next year.
