The Investigation Bureau has busted a fake wine producer group in New Taipei City and seized more than 37,000 bottles of fake "Little Penguin" Australian red wine and more than 16,000 liters of unbottled wine. The group had imported a small amount of the real wine and later started making the fake wine from con-centrated grape juice and various chemicals using the labels of the real wine. The fake wine group has thus make nearly NTD 30 million prot and its biggest customer is the well-known supermarket chain "Pxmart" (全聯福利中心) where over 100,000 bottles of fake wine have been shipped.
Pxmart has made a claim that every bottle of the fake wine has been o shelf and customers can return any wine with the "Little Penguin" label without hold-ing a receipt. Retailers selling fake wines knowingly can be ned up to NTD 1.5 million.
One tip to distinguish the real and the fake wine is to check if the place and date of production is marked on the label.
