This year the Opening Ceremony will be held in the Didactics Centre of Medical University of Warsaw, in the Banacha Campus, most often identified with the the University, with two excellent hospitals and modern, multi-media library.

Address: Księcia Trojdena 2a

Old Town marked the start of Warsaw’s urban expansion

around the turn of the 14th century. Surprisingly,

although it seems to be pretty old, the Old Town is fairly

new. During the Warsaw Uprising Warsaw's historic

centre was destroyed by Nazi troops. After the war, a

five-year reconstruction campaign by its citizens resulted

in today's meticulous restoration of the Old Town.

Apart from cosy cafes and restaurants, interesting places and buildings of the Old Town include: the Royal Castle with Sigismund’s Column, the symbol of Warsaw - the Statue of the Mermaid, the Barbican, the Little Insurgent Statue and many churches, including baroque St. Anne’s Church. Do not forget to have a walk across the Royal Route!

A curious case on its own, as no monarch has ever resided there. Entirely destroyed during the Warsaw Uprising, it was rebuilt in the 1980s in its original style of baroque-classicism. Currently serving as a museum.

231 metres (758 ft.) tall is considered as Poland's tallest

building and one of the 10 tallest buildings in Europe.

Built in 1955, this monumental, 42 floors skyscraper is

still an informal symbol of Warsaw. As it has a clock on

top you do not have to worry if you forget your watch.

A large terrace on the 30th floor with a stunning

panoramic view of the whole city attracts most attention.

Łazienki Park in Warsaw, a large garden of enchanting

beauty with historic buildings and sculptures, which used

to be the summer residence of the last king of Poland,

Stanisław August Poniatowski, is now ranked among the

world’s greatest historic monuments. Formerly situated

south of Warsaw, today the park is an oasis of calm in the

centre of the city.

Everyone will find something suitable in the Skaryszewski

Park – one of the biggest and most beautiful parks in

Warsaw. The park was landscaped over a century ago to

resemble different parts of Poland – from lakes in the

north to the mountains in the south. Admire the art deco

sculptures, have a look at the forgotten Soviet army

monument, rent a boat or a pedal boat, walk, cycle, have

a picnic or feed the squirrels, everything is fun

at the Skaryszewski Park.

Those who always wanted to walk and read at the same

time can now stroll around Pole Mokotowskie park

following the footsteps of the great reporter Ryszard

Kapuściński, who used to live in the area. Each morning

he used to have a walk around the park and today this

same meandering route (Ścieżka Kapuścińskiego) is

dotted with quotes from his writings. Now the park is

also one of the largest recreational areas in the city.

Located in the vicinity of four universities is a place where students hang out and relax

before, between, or after the classes. In the centre there are also a few pubs and clubs.

If you would like to see Vistula by night you can board a water tram. It is very interesting to see Warsaw from a different perspective.

Warsaw water trams stop on four stops: River Cafe at the bank of the river, Old Town (embankment at the Śląsko-Dąbrowski Bridge), Copernicus Science Centre (Powiśle), Czerniakowski Spit (Cypel Czerniakowski) by the Siekierkowski Bridge. You can use them based on regular public transport tickets.

Total trip time is 90 minutes.

The main attraction by the river is the Fountain Park. This is the largest multimedia fountain in Europe. Pumps which eject 3000 gallons of water per minute create breath-taking spectacle of water, sound and light that astonishes crowds.

The largest of all Jewish ghettos in Nazi-occupied Europe during World War II. It was almost entirely leveled during the Uprising, a number of streets and buildings survived. It is impossible to understand Warsaw without visiting the streets of the Ghetto.

The street, recently renovated, enchants with its pre-war Warsaw’s atmosphere. This is the place in which the climate of the old Jewish quarter is revived during the Festival of Jewish Culture – Singer’s Warsaw.

It’s a triangular square adjacent to the Próżna street.

During World War II it was a part of a Jewish ghetto for a

couple of months, now with couple of cafes and it’s a

charming modern and stunning place, especially during

evenings.

Opened in April 2013 stands in a heart of a pre-war Jewish

Warsaw, an area which during World War II was turned

into a ghetto. The museum is a cultural and educational

centre with an impressive main exhibition, presenting the

thousand-year history of Polish Jews. Also the building is

worth noting, its outstanding architecture was rewarded

in 2008 with a Chicago Athenaeum International

Architecture Award.

Modern, interactive and innovative – these three words

perfectly describe this place. You can spend the whole

day unravelling the mysteries of science and it will not be

enough. Three laboratories, a robotic workshop, five

thematic galleries and the special exhibition

RE:generation dedicated to the mature visitors let you

enjoy pure science hands-on. Make your own tornado,

experience an earthquake, play an electro optical harp

or become a sceleton riding a bike. As a scientist – feel

like at home!

We strongly advise you also to visit The Heavens of

Copernicus – the marvelous planetarium which takes

every visitor on a trip through the universe with

interesting lectures. The best equipment ensures

an excellent quality.

Housed in a pompous fin-de-siecle building since 1901, Zachęta (meaning ‘encouragement’ in Polish) is Warsaw’s oldest contemporary art gallery. Hosts exhibitions of leading Polish and foreign 20th and 21st century artists and an art book shop with surprisingly trimmed down souvenir section. Overcoming social taboos for many times it gave rise to controversies and even protests. Its name is drawn from the historic Society for the Encouragement of Arts.

The 1999 University Library is one of the most loved contemporary buildings in Warsaw, designed by a prominent, post-modernist architect, Marek Budzyński. Its comfortable learning spaces, restful cafes, a bustling hallway, a green façade and an amazing roof garden with views of the city and Vistula river makes it a perfect spot not only for studying. The library is so popular, that it has created a social phenomenon of ‘BUWing’ – hanging out at BUW (abbreviation for University Library) for reasons other than reading.

The Muranów Movie Theatre, beloved for its cosy and homely atmosphere, is the place to go when you wish for movies you wouldn't necessarily find in any other regular cinema. It shows independent productions and many niche motion pictures. It is conveniently located next to the Ratusz-Arsenał metro station, close to the Old Town and has a small cafe and movie store in the foyer.

Unfortunately, Warsaw cannot brag about having the best developed network of bicycle lanes. However some of them - for example the most picturesque one along the Vistula bank – attract many enthusiasts. If you decide to join the bikers , you can rent the bicycle at one of the bike stations "VETURILO", located around the city.

These used to be very filthy and neglected streets but now tens of modern and fashionable restaurants, pubs and cafés are placed there. Everyone will find something for themselves: restaurant Meat love, which is the neighbour of the vegan restaurant W gruncie rzeczy, hummus bar Beirut, Tel Aviv, Kraken Rum Bar and many more.

Famous for their vodkas and superb beers, Poles are not shy when it comes to the occasional drink. For visitors in Warsaw, the choice is mind-boggling. Clubs and bars are springing up all over the place, with the Praga district now something of a mecca for serious partygoers, abound in the older parts of Warsaw, cafes and more traditional pubs abound. If you're a night owl you'll find plenty to hoot about in Poland's party capital!

Most people would agree that the prelude to any good night of clubbing starts at a bar. Mazowiecka street aspires to be the night-out center with several clubs and bars close at hand. We can strongly recommend checking out the likes of Mono Bar, Paparazzi, U Artystów, Bank, Zoo, Enklawa, Tygmont, Watch me, Rich&Pretty.

Even though this bistro bar was forced to change its location, it didn't lose any of its popularity. Much like in traditional Warsaw bars, you sit on high stools or stand at the counter. Waiters in aprons serve appetizers with alcohol, be it beer, wine or vodka. This place brings together customers of different generations and nations.

Under the communist regime, Pewex was the only shop where people could buy foreign products. Pewex, with name bearing the only resemblance, is located at Pawilony. A distinctive mark of this place is the psychedelic wallpaper. The club owner’s obsession is searching for orginal wallpapers from the 60s and 70s.

Address: Nowy Świat 22/28

Pawilony, a series of bars hidden behind the Nowy Świat Street, is a great place to start a night. All doors are unmarked, and nearly every bar is a tiny, two-floor enclave with no more than 10 tables (try Pewex or Klaps for a little more space).

Cosy, little pub located in the Old Town, where you can try some traditional polish dishes, while drinking cold beer. We invite you to enjoy time with your friends in this charming place.

Address: Piwna 4a

What is a multi-tap bar? You might have heard of the name craft beer bar or brewpub, which mean practically the same. These are pubs which serve dozens of kinds of beers from small, local breweries. In Poland we are proud of our unusual taste in alcohols, visit one of our multi-taps and choose one of our very unique local beers. Each and every one of them serves different types of beer that will satisfy even the most choosy beer lovers.
