  • Referee Information

    1. BASC and OSA do not tolerate referee abuse. If coach has problem with a referee, please contact Mike Witten, the BASC Area Referee: [email protected]. Or contact the BASC Ref Assignor: Mike Naumann: [email protected]. Field confrontation is no place for voicing problems about referee actions. Calls will not be changed, outcomes remain the same. But if Area Referee is made aware of problems they can be formally addressed to improve professionalism and knowledge. Use the "Online Referee Evaluation Form" under Referee's on BASCOK.com (We'll take positive feedback too!)

    2. Have players ready to play, in proper uniform. Referees should not have to tell players to remove jewelry, wear shin guards, etc. That is the coaches responsibility.

    3. Coaches are responsible for actions of parents, even if they are on the opposite side of the field. Please talk with your parents about sportsmanship and game etiquette. Parent misconduct can result in YOU getting ejected from a game!!!

    4. Remember - just as your players are learning the game, so are the referees. Have patience and understanding- They will make mistakes!

  • If you need to reschedule a game, the first thing you should do is contact the other coach and reach an agreement on an alternate date and time- get agreement via email.

Reschedule request should (must) be emailed to Robert lindsey [email protected]

Reschedule request must be received prior to one week (168 hours) before the original game time. Otherwise Penalty Fees are involved.

A Reschedule Request must include the following information or BASC will not consider it an official request to reschedule. (The clock will still be ticking.) • Game Number and Field Number • Original Game Date & Time • Both Team Names • Requested reschedule date and time (preferable two options) • Copy of email correspondence between both coaches showing they agree to the date

Only team officials should contact the games commissioner

  • SCRIMMAGES & SPECIAL TRAINING SESSIONS

Scrimmages may be scheduled by BASC teams for play at ISSC so long as at least one team is an official BASC team and a uniformed /licensed referee officiates the game.

Special Training sessions may be requested to be scheduled at ISSC by BASC teams who wish participate in a BASC Special Training Clinic. The training session shall be coordinated and directed by a third party coach or trainer.

Note: • Payments and requests must be made online before the request is acknowledged • Only 2 scrimmages or training sessions per 30 calendar days

    Browse BASe's COACHES CORNER

    Set Black Out Dates

Make sure you have good contact information for parents! It's important to communicate (Email, Text, Groupme)

  • Practices Do not be left alone with a child for your safety and the child's safety (Tell parents up front, if they are the next to last one picking up a kid, they automatically volunteer to be your backup.)

Make su re all players have appropriate Shin Guards and Shoes or they cannot practice. Players should always bring water and soccer ball to practices. (Long hair should be pulled back, no metal hair pins, earings, etc.)

Pick a single topic (dribbling, shooting, defending, etc.) per practice- you cannot cover everything at one practice. Graduate from simple to more complex/small sided building on that topic. End with a scrimmage if you can

Make it fun, create a game or competition out of drills

There are tons of resources to help you o Online: BASC Website, http://www.soccerxpert com/

o Find a coach 2 years older and 'make friends' -volunteer to help, watch and learn

o Take a coaching class- even if you know the game, you 'll be surprised how much you learn!

o Contact BASC Head Coach - he can help you or help put you in touch with someone who can help you.

FIFA 11 + is a great warm up tool that helps prevent injuries. http://f-marc.com/llplus/home/

  • Game Time Prep Notify team when to arrive

    Setup Flags if not present (Home Team is responsible}

    Set Home I Away Colors (Always have both} o For U6: Home=White & Away=Orange

Print Game Form (Do not print too early)

    Have Player Passes Ready (U11 and Up}

    Run Warm ups

Have a game ball picked out

A BASC Registered Coach, Asst Coach, or Manager must be present at the game or that team cannot play.

  • Parent Education Most parents do not know the rules of the game. Help educate them!

Soccer is a contact sport o We see many instances of little Johnny/Susie getting knock down and parents getting upset.

o Please educate your parents, there is a difference between contact and a foul.

o A referee may also see a foul and let play continue if the "ADVANTAGE" is in favor of the team the foul was committed against.

Parents and Coaches may not enter the field until a referee gives them permission.

Play may not stop immediately for an injured player, except head injuries.

If a Coach enters the field for an injured player they must leave the game (exception Goal Keepers). So often an experienced Referee will check on the player first.

Slide tackling is not encouraged below UlO's. However, contrary to many parents beliefs, it is not illegal if performed correctly.

  • Referee Abuse Coaches you are responsible for your sidelines and we need your help to avoid referee abuse

Parents will 11 follow your lead 11 • If you're calm it will calm them.

Remember most Referees U12 and below are kids also. They are still learning too!

Do professional Referees make mistakes? Why would you expect your referee to be perfect?
