Year 9 – Week 17

IMAGINE BELIEVE ACHIEVE

This document outlines the work we have set for students in week 17 of your school closure. This work is intended to be completed Monday through to Friday of every week. We set the work on Fridays to give you and your family time to organise yourselves for the week ahead. Remember, with the introduction of Live Event Lessons there is probably more work to complete, but we are making sure everyone has work to do whenever this wish. Also, all Hodgson staff can be contacted on their email, or if you want to send in pictures of your work you can use our Twitter page @HodgsonAcademy, using the hashtag #HodgsonAtHome.

We start with the I Can I Am Challenge - WE HAVE MADE IT TO WEEK 17! Firstly I would like to congratulate you all on your success in completing your challenges. Miss Sanderson has been so proud with you all and overwhelmed by the upload of work. This week we are going to take a look at the final two challenges, this will give some of you the opportunity to complete the full course before Summer. REMEMBER: All challenges will be online for students to complete over Summer in their own time. There will be no strict deadline for completion as we would like all of you to access the award whenever you choose to. To complete the final challenge, you will need to think about what is most important to you and the community around you and how you can make positive actions to help you realise your potential in the future. As part of this challenge you will create a ‘pledge to impact the future’ through the continued use of positive actions. This could be your future, the future of someone else, a community group, or a cause that you are passionate about. You will all be celebrated with you success and we hope to see your last two challenges! Week 17 of school closure would have been THE FINAL WEEK OF SCHOOL BEFORE THE SUMMER! It has been a very strange time for us all, but I would like to thank you all again for your hard work and perseverance. We have listened carefully to you and your parents over this time and recognise that lots of you are ready for a holiday; you should make sure you use the next 6 weeks to recharge your batteries. We are very excited to welcome you back in September. However, we also know some of you have really benefitted with the regular input of work and having ‘things to do’ to keep busy – and therefore we will release a final school closure document next week outlining OPTIONAL activities for all year groups to access over the summer. Until then, we have the final week of Live Lessons to participate in as well as your normal weekly work update from your school teachers attached. Good Luck – The Hodgson Team

Mathematics

**Students please remember to check your school emails regularly**

This week you have been set ‘MemRi’ quizzes on Hegarty Maths. Your personalised quizzes

are based on a mixture of topics that you have previously studied. As usual you need to make

notes on the quiz questions in your orange Hegarty book, it is important to always show your

working out in Maths.

‘MemRi’ quizzes will be set over the summer holidays, however these tasks will be optional. If you have any questions about ‘MemRi’ you need to contact your class teacher this week as

teachers may be checking their emails less frequently over the summer holidays.

English

This week in English, year 9 students should create a thorough response to the following question about ‘A Christmas Carol’: “Which character in the text do you feel has the most

impact on Scrooge and makes him want to change? Why?” Responses should give explanations using knowledge of the text and can either be sent as a written document or as a video to their teacher via Flipgrid. There is also an assignment on Seneca to revise ‘language techniques’ on the ‘KS3 Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar’ course. Some classes may be set

differentiated work by their class-teacher.

Science This week all students in Y9 (combined and triple) will be undertaking a knowledge review on

Physics for this week. This is a recap where they can identify their own gaps in their knowledge. The marks will not be used in School for assessment.

Lesson 1- Knowledge Students will be invited to attend a Physics live lesson to revise the content from this year alongside using the BBC Bitesize link on ClassCharts Lesson 2- Application

Students will then apply what they have learnt and complete a quiz activity on the programme Seneca. The class code and link is included on ClassCharts.

If the students wish to complete extension revision activity worksheets for Biology and Physics these worksheets are available on ClassCharts. Additionally, we are requesting that the students continue to complete their daily goals on Tassomai however if they have forgotten

their log on details guidance for this can be found on ClassCharts. If the student completes five daily goals they will be entered into a prize draw for a £10 Amazon voucher- see the @HodgsonSci Twitter page each Monday for the winner. Furthermore, students can take part

in a live Kahoot quiz on Wednesday at midday, further information will be given to students via announcements on ClassCharts.

We are not finished yet, we need to maintain high levels of safe activity over the summer. This week in our final week, you need to access the Flipgrid tutorial from Mr Webb using

PSHE

During this last week prior to our summer holidays, we would like our students to reflect on the past few months. It has been an unusual time for everyone and we would like students to begin to focus on their future, ready for returning to school. Many students have really

embraced our PSHE work and either emailed their work to us or posted a Flipgrid video – this has been amazing! We will provide a series of challenges on ClassCharts for students to choose from and use to help them reflect on the positives.
