Show News Luann & Ed Meyer had an eventful Cap Gun this year. Ed had trouble with his back and had trouble riding home in his truck. Hope he is feeling better! Sitting in a truck with back trouble doesn’t sound pleasant. Luann says she likes taking just one horse to a show, but she’s still showing in several classes. Luann and My Details are Hot were the Select Showmanship circuit champions at Cap Gun. Also at Cap Gun, Crooked Assets and Kaitlyn Stewart were the circuit champions in 14-18 Showmanship. Plenty of Mac and Ashley Trousdale picked up 7 points in 4 events over the weekend. The June Sterling shows had some hotly desired all arounds and circuit championship awards. The all around awards and circuit championships were a combination of the April Sterling weekend and the June Sterling weekend—something new we tried this year. Thanks to all who came to help with the June shows. Thanks to my son, Nate, who helped calculate the circuit championships. Circuit championships were won by Alyssa Lombardi, Chayna DeNicolo, Ashley Troudale, Caley Callahan, Millie Mauritzson, Taylor Kaup, Sarah Clinton, Sue Lytinen, Karen Naftzger, Kate Fitzpatrick, Keri Collins, and Daniele Luetke. Several of these members won more than one championship. And those present were treated to a surprised and thrilled look on the face of Sue Lytinen when she won her horsemanship class! The small fry exhibitors were having a great time at Sterling. Jon Yaklich and Panners Pride got a special award for the oldest horse at the show. Anyone who attended the July Gordyville shows was also treated to a fierce small fry competition for those all around small fry spurs. Two small fry contenders battled it out to the last class to see who would go home with those spurs. Good luck to all participants at the Youth World! Summer is moving along pretty quickly. The county fairs and state fair are coming up. I’m even seeing school supplies in the stores. But still plenty of show season left. Anyone interested in trail riding should check out the Illinois Quarter Horse Association Annual All Breed Charity Trail Ride on the weekend of September 26-28. This Ride is for all breeds and all riding disciplines so everybody is invited to come and experience the fun and relaxation! The Ride will be held at the Jim Edgar Panther Creek State Fish & Wildlife Area, Chandlerville, IL. For those of you who don’t know its location, Panther Creek is just a few minutes northwest of Springfield. For more information contact Pam Sigler at (217) 553-1755, or go to the IQHA website at WWW.ILQHA.COM. Dates for the 2009 Illinois Horse Fair have been confirmed as Friday-Sunday, March 6-8 at the Illinois State Fairgrounds. The 2009 event will mark the 20th anniversary of Horse Fair, a celebration that was to have been in March 2008 – until Horse Fair was cancelled by the Illinois Department of Agriculture in response to public safety concerns associated with high voltage electrical problems at the Fairgrounds. (Repairs to more than 22 miles of underground cable were completed in mid-May and the Fairgrounds was re-opened to the public.) The flooding earlier in the summer sure caused a lot of trouble for horse people in the area. One of our judges had trouble getting to our show grounds in June, but he did make it—with several extra hours of driving. The July 5 & 6 shows at Jefferson, WI had to be canceled because of all the flooding. A lot of the roads in the area were closed. There were some concerns about health issues and the drinking water.

(Repairs to more than 22 miles of underground cable were completed in mid-May and the Fairgrounds was re-opened to the public.)

CLEAN THOSE BUCKETS! Those filthy, slimy, water buckets are teeming with bacteria and algae. Uneaten feed, dead flies, hair, nasal secretions and bacteria pose a danger to the horse. Water buckets and troughs should be kept clean for the health of the horse. A simple, daily brush of the bucket and regular

cleaning with a mild bleach solution or cider vinegar is all it takes to keep our equine friends healthy and happy! –(from the AQHA electronic newsletter) LLQHA Open Show Thanks to Ashley and Sandy Trousdale —and their crew they got together—for putting together a nice open show in New Lenox. Even though the weather wasn’t the greatest and the area had a tornado the night before the show, those who attended seemed to be having fun. It was exciting when the storm rolled through in the afternoon! I’m including some pictures from the show. Thanks to Kathy Fitzpatrick’s barn for attending the show.

Thanks to Jeff Greaves for judging the show. Ashley says she’d like to try running it again next year—less excitement with the weather though. AQHA Membership Fees To Increase At its April meeting, the AQHA Executive Committee approved a membership committee recommendation to raise AQHA membership fees, which will become effective in January 2009. The best way to avoid an increase in membership fees for three years is to use AQHA's offer to auto renew your membership. Regional Experience The Regional Experience has just finished but the results aren’t posted yet. Checkout their website for the results soon. Fall Shows Don’t forget our fall shows at Gordyville in September. The showbills are in this Log. IQHA is also having its futurity shows in Springfield in September. The showbills for those shows can be found on their website and the LLQHA website.
