I’m sure you know what Tony Boselli, Fred Taylor, David Garrard, Kyle Brady, Mike Peterson and even Byron Leftwich have in com-mon. All were either uncer-emoniously cut or dumped from the Jaguars when they seemed to have some pro-ductive years left in their NFL careers. Stars at one point while playing in Jack-

sonville, they all were considered expendable and sent on their way. Boselli was exposed to the expansion draft, they didn’t think Taylor could be a back up so they cut him; Garrard was shoved out by a first round pick. Brady fell out of favor with the coaching staff and ended up on a Super Bowl team in New England. Mike P questioned Jack Del Rio and was allowed to move on. He is still starting for the Falcons. Leftwich wasn’t cutting it according to the coaching staff and wouldn’t react well to a demotion. Whether

their assessment of a player’s skills was correct or not, when a team is done with you, they’re done. No niceties in this business. It’s pretty cut and dried when they call you in and tell you you’re services are no longer needed. Sometimes it’s a classic “Coach wants to see you and bring your playbook.” Sometimes they grab you after a meeting or after practice and tell you you’re gone. It’s not a long process and it can be a combustible situation. There are stories about the player taking a swing at a coach. Or verbally dressing him down. I came across the Jaguars player personnel guy

in his office once with a player signing his “separa-tion” papers at his desk. With security standing guard outside the hall just in case and to provide an escort out of the building.

When you look at that short list of players, you could make an argument that most were done and spent the last few years of their careers just hanging on. How they cut Garrard was pretty harsh, and not right, just 5 days before the

season. Same thing with Leftwich just before the opener. But it underscores the harsh nature of professional sports. You’re in it until somebody else says you’re not. And when you’re out, you’re gone. It’s no wonder the players are so focused and intent on keeping their jobs. They know they’re one play away from it being over.

Have you ever been fired? I have, and it’s no fun no matter how they handle it. Recently in radio I was fired via text! That’s not harsh, that’s just cowardly. In pro sports they’ll look you in the eye at least and tell you you’re done. But when they’re done with you, they’re done.

A Pakistani prisoner, serving four years for making alcohol – which is prohibited for Muslims – complained of discomfort, which led to a diagnostic x-ray. The result? An entire light bulb inserted in his anus.

The prisoner swore he had no idea how it got there.

A smuggler in San Salvador was imprisoned for smuggling various objects including cell phones. An x-ray revealed he was indeed smuggling a cell phone – in his rectum.

It’s the stuff of horror stories: surgical implements left in body

cavities when surgery’s per-formed. It sounds like an urban

legend but it happens, and here’s proof: a surgical scissors was left

in the abdomen of a woman and only discovered on x-ray eigh-teen months after her surgery!

We all know chocolate is poisonous to dogs. But what about chocolate eggs containing tiny plastic figurines of Homer Simpson? This dog got his paws on one such egg and an x-ray revealed Homer Simpson lodged in his gut.

A six month old Saint Bernard dog somehow swallowed a 13-

inch serrated knife, which lodged in her stomach. It required sur-gery which left the puppy with

an 8-inch scar – but miraculous-ly, she was otherwise A-OK.

A construction worker went to the dentist complaining of a toothache in his upper jaw. What the dentist found was a real shocker: the man had a large nail embedded in his skull. Apparently and amazingly, he’d fired the nail into himself with a high-power nail gun without even realizing it.

MOVING ON Two of Hollywood’s loved couples have been under the gun the past couple months, but it seems like the four of them have been pushing through. Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony filed for divorce in July and many rumors surfaced that Marc was having an affair with HawthoRNe co-star, Jada Pinkett Smith. Jada is long-time wife of actor, Will Smith. The two couples have all been friends for years and Marc got the gig on Jada’s show that she not only stars in but produces because of their friendship. The two shared a hot and steamy sex scene but claim that all the rumors of an affair are false. The rumors seem to not have set any hardship on the friendship between Will and Marc. The pair including athlete Dwayne Wade kicked off the football season enjoying box seats at the New England Patriots and Miami Dolphins MNF game. Jennifer Lopez has also moved on from the divorce - she’s been seen on numerous dinner dates with Hangover star, Bradley Cooper. Jennifer also signed a new deal to be with American Idol for a second season - new deal, new man?

LEGALLY BLONDE AND BRUISED!Oscar-winning actress Reese Witherspoon was hit by a 84-year-old driver when the senior failed to yield as Reese was jogging across an unmarked crosswalk in Santa Monica. Reese did not suffer any life-threatening injuries but the 35-year-old does have a black eye, multiple bruises, and was seen with bandages on her forehead. She

was rushed to the hospital but released shortly after. Her rep released a statement that the actress will not press any charges against the driver. A family member of the driver says that she feels “awful” and has not returned to the road since the accident. The citation the older woman received requires her to retake a driving test and is due back in court October 7th.

NO MORE GTL IN A&F!Jersey Shore’s Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino is going head to head with clothing line, Abercrombie & Fitch. A&F released a statement that they would actually pay money to have The Situation NOT wear their clothing. Mike claims the offer is not true. In return, he has now hired lawyers and sent a response of his own: cease and desist! There are currently two shirts sold by A&F that are “Jersey Shore inspired”. One says “GTL Fitch” and the other “The Fitchuation”. Mike wants the shirts yanked from the company’s stock and all profits made from the shirts sent to him. Although Mike has worn A&F on JS before, I don’t think we’ll be seeing any Abercrombie & Fitch apparel on Jersey Shore episodes to come.

QUICK DISH Rappers Paul Wall and Baby Bash were arrested in El Paso, Texas for possession of marijuana. Paul stated that they were targeted at a nightclub that they performed at and the marijuana was not theirs, and they plan to fight the charges.

Disney stars and BFFs Ashley Tisdale and Vanessa Hudgens took to the needle when they were in Manhattan for Fashion Week. The needle for tattoos that is. Vanessa got the “Om” symbolson the back of her fingers so that they come together when in the praying position. Ashley got the french words “jamais seule” on her foot which translates to “never alone”.

Taylor Swift’s sad songs dedicated to men who break her heart actually has one man wanting her back. Joe Jonas wants the country singer back in his life. Taylor isn’t giving in easily but they have started talking daily again.

Speaking of Taylor, the MTV hit show Punk’d! is coming back and Taylor was the first victim! But it wasn’t to Ashton Kutcher! The first episode will feature Justin Bieber as the host with him punking his dear friend.

Well there is good news, Florida’s Courts have held that Florida Stat-ute 893.13 is unconstitutional due to the ability for its’ application to convict innocent and unknowing “possessors” of illegal drugs. If a talented country music artist is lucky, they have a hit song or two on the radio. There is only one artist who has had 84 out of 89 radio singles make it to Top 10 (57 to Number One) and 24 albums at the number one position on Billboard’s Country Music Album Chart – George Strait. He continues to defy the odds, live up to the royal praise and deliver what only  “King George” can do.  His newly released album, Here For A Good Time, debuted at Number One on the Billboard Country Album Charts this week (his 3rd number one album debut in a row) and #3 on Billboard Top 200 Chart (behind Lil Wayne & Adele) with first week sales of 91,414.

Strait once again co-produced this album with his long-time friend and leg-endary producer Tony Brown at Shrimpboat Sound Studio in Key West, FL - the same studio where Strait recorded his last three award-winning albums. The Country Music Hall of Famer co-wrote seven of the album’s 11 tracks with his son Bubba and legendary songwriter Dean Dillon. With a career spanning more than 30 years, George Strait has the most num-ber one singles of any artist in history including Elvis (57 to date inclusive of all charts).  He has sold nearly 69 million records and with 33 different plati-num or multi-platinum albums has the most RIAA platinum certifications in country music and the third in all genres, behind The Beatles and Elvis Presley. Strait was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2006. For

The Infader got his first dose of the DJ world in the early 90’s when some friends acquired a Gemini DJ coffin with two turntables and a mixer that they had setup at their apartment. He had already started collecting vinyl for the unreleased b-side remixes before he even had his own turntables so he already had a decent record collection. While at home he would practice on his dual cassette tape player creating mix tapes and battle it out with his partner Next One. Then he decided to borrow his parents Samsung Turntable and hooked it up to his dual cassette player. He then glued a quarter to the head shell, took a bed sheet and cutout a slip mat so he could practice scratching until he could afford a real setup. He would watch early DMC battle videos to get ideas. Later on when had a decent job and had saved enough money, he bought his first pair of tech-nics SL1200 turntables. From then on it was 24/7 practice until he started rocking local house parties and high school proms which made him the party rocking DJ he is today!

So how did it all begin and who inspired you? The hip hop culture & music in general. I was buying records first for the remixes before I was even djing.  I’ve had so many influences along the way. I’ll try to keep it short. From the Big name DJ’s like Jazzy Jeff, Q-Bert, Spinbad, Premier, Craze, Klever, A-Trak to the DJs I’ve come up with personally through-out the years. Third Rail, Shotgun, Sureshot, Tone, Giz Roc, Ginsu, Basic, Therapy, Annalyze, Kenski. Capone, Lab 3 & Dave Berg. Also I can’t forget the recent lost greats (RIP) Jam Master Jay, Roc Raida & DJ AM.

Where did your name come from? Invader + crossfader = infader

DJ InfaderEVERYTHING YOU EVER WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT

ACTIVE 29

What was the first event you ever played? That’s too far back to remember but it had to have been house parties, my high schools teen fest & my own high school prom.

What was the best event you ever played at? I’ve done a lot of cool gigs & have been lucky enough to have the op-portunity to play events with or alongside most all of my favorite DJs. I’ve even got-ten sponsorships through corporate gigs that had it’s rewards, like getting free clothes, shoes, equipment & even promo cars from VW & Volvo. But I would say best gig or experience ever was a 6 week club residency in Shanghai china. Talk about a culture shock!

What was your first album you ever bought? First album bought? I have no idea. I know the first album I ever scratched was Mc Shy D “Gotta Be Tough” & the acapella to Wu Tang Clan’s “CREAM.”

What is your favorite song of all time? This is a question I can never really answer. There’s just too much good music out there. If I had to pick a song it would be “that one song that goes like this..”

When all of the partying is over how do you like to chill out? I’m not a big party person. I don’t even drink. I just supply the soundtrack. so I’m always chillin’ out even when everyone else is partying. My days are pretty chill though I just like to hang at home with the fam or work on music & product ideas for my company Kickflips.net

EVERYTHING YOU EVER WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT

What is the funniest thing that ever happened at an event? Funny things happen every single night. Mix party people with alcohol & you’ll see. My job can be entertaining to me as well. There was one time I was djing for this artist & he actually fell off the stage during his performance.

What is your favorite genre to mix? All of them together. I like diversity even though nowadays every DJ is pretty much an “open format” Dj. If I had to pick one at the moment it would be dance music. It’s where the most energy is right now.

What is one thing that you would like to change in the local music scene? I’d create a licensed training course for new upcoming DJs. I’m not usually one to judge but there’s just way too many DJs that should be practicing at home & not in the club. It’s getting out of hand. I had practiced a good 4-5 years before I even thought about going in public.

What is one things that you would like to see stay the same with the local music scene? The relationships I have with the DJ’s, artists, promot-ers, companies and club owners I have worked with or am still currently working with that have constantly held it down for years. Those that still push for quality above the quantity every day!

If you had a chance to work with anyone of your choosing, who would it be? DJ Lance Rock from Yo Gabba Gabba!

What are the main spots you DJ? My schedule has been all over the place lately; you can follow me to stay updated. Twitter.com/theinfader

I will be the first to admit that I get excited when a new beauty treatment hits the market. I will also admit, that I am equally as skeptical upon their arrival. While some beauty treatments can re-

ally make a difference, there are also those that can let you down, and simultaneously empty your bank account. Here are some celebrity preferred treatments that come at a hefty price point.

Angelina Jolie: Caviar Skin CreamAngelina Jolie’s has a beauty regimen that includes La Prairie’s Skin Caviar Luxe Cream. This cream will cost you $710 for a 100ml container! It contains the eggs of Baerii sturgeon, a protein-rich ingredient that’s said to be good for moisturizing and firming the skin. Let’s hope the proof is in the pudding!!

Madonna spends $79K on anti-cellulite deviceWe’ve all heard about Madonna’s impressive workout routines, and have seen the work pay off by scoping out her rock hard body! However, when I researched celebrity beauty treatments, I was shocked to find that the secret to her smokin bod was not a result of diet and exercise alone. Madonna reportedly purchased a $79,000 device that claims to be the ultimate weapon against cellulite. The device is a compressed air ma-chine and it is recommended for women with good muscle tone which makes her the ideal candidate. CelluliteInvestiga-tion.com stated “The force of the acoustic shock wave emitted from the machine is said to break down the rigid connective fibers that cause cellulite, releasing congested lymph back into general circulation. It is also claimed to increase blood flow to the region, prompting the production of thicker bands of col-

lagen and smoother skin. She also reportedly splurged on a 75K device with similar properties the previous year.

Mila Kunis $7,000 facialMila Kunis prefers a facial using rubies and diamonds! Apparently, these ridiculously expensive stones have antioxidant proper-ties which benefit the skin and provide a nice sheen. She reportedly used this luxuri-ous treatment before the Golden Globe Awards , and before the European tour for her movie, "Friends with Benefits". Her facial was prepared by celebrity estheti-cian Scott-Vincent Borba. The “HD Diamond and Ruby Peel” involves having the gemstones rubbed on the face and neck. “The rubies act as the antioxidant and the diamonds provide a topical sheen,” says InStyle, “and he tops it off with a peraffin silk fiber facial. Borba also has her suck on an ice cube during the process, a trick that helps decrease puffiness.” Wow,

Serena Williams $5,000 Evian BathWhen plain ol’ bath water just won’t do, why not try bottled water? Serena declared that she has felt a real difference from the moment she stepped in.

Gwyneth Paltrow: Snake Venom Facial Over the years, Gwyneth Paltrow has tried colonics, cupping, and a macrobiotic diet, all in the name of beauty and wellness.

36 ACTIVE

But perhaps no regimen has seemed quite as odd as the snake venom cream she uses on her skin. Costing $185 for a 1 oz. container, Sonia Dakar’s UltraLuxe-9 products contain a synthetic venom that is said to have a similar (but gentler) paralyz-ing effect on the skin as a snake bite—essentially reptilian Botox. Though some question whether the

cream is more like snake oil, there’s no denying the 38-year-old Oscar-winner’s skin looks youthful.

Eva Longoria: Placental Face CreamEva Longoria includes EMK placental cream in her skincare routine. The placental cream is derived from botanicals that mimic the nutrients found in human placenta. The vitamins, amino acids and other proteins are known to have restorative properties for the skin. A 1 oz. container of EMK placental cream is $90. The saying ‘she’s got a baby face’ comes to mind.

Jessica Simpson: Fish PedicureOn a 2010 episode of her VH1 show The Price of Beauty, Jessica Simpson tested a foot treatment in Japan that’s not without controversy—the fish pedicure. Spa guests

place their feet in water with garra rufa (or doctor fish) while pint-size piranhas nibble away the dead skin. My oh my! I guess sometimes a good ol’ foot scrub just wont do!

Victoria Beckham: Bird poop facial Of all the bizarre beauty regimens celeb-rities experiment with, perhaps none causes more horror than the Geisha Facial. Victoria Beckham gets at New

York’s Shizuka Day Spa. Also known as the “bird poop facial” because of the powdered nightingale droppings used in the treatment, the Geisha Facial costs $180 for a 60-minute session and promises to “soften, brighten, and nourish the complex-ion.” And it must be working, because David Beckham report-edly gets them as well.

These are some not so well known beauty treatments readily available to you, if you have the time and extra cash flow to drop. If you are looking for something a little more close to home, and at a lower price point, try at-home skin treatments using products that you can find in your local grocery store.

ultra blonde for fall. The maintenance is high but the result is worth it

for this hot shade. Hair color companies such as L’Oreal Professional

ACTIVE 39

colorfall

launched a non ammonia hair

color called iNOA in 2010. It’s

innovated technology is one

beyond all other. They created

an iol delivery system, meaning it

has zero odors and no ammonia.

With the invention of iNOA

with it’s ODS technology engine,

a new dimension in comfort

and coloring has evolved. In the regular version of the color ammonia,

the necessary alkaline agent is added so that it can lift the hair cuticle for

color to be deposited on the strands. This left the strands swollen and

dry, and the smell of ammonia during application can be really offensive.

But now L’Oreal Professional has found this color delivery system which

uses mineral oil as the catalyst for depositing color on the hair strands.

It is gentler on the strands and scalp. Most top salons across the country

offer this color service. iNOA is available in many shades ranging from

browns, chocolate, burgundy, caramel, mahogany, honey blonde, and

ash blonde. Your colorist can blend the color to match your skin tone.

If red is on your mind… go bold and shocking with coppery red tone

that amazes and inspires. Fiery red can transform your mood and

overall sense of who you are. Choose cool red tones carefully, because

the wrong shade can make your skin either look to pink or washed

out and sickly. Your colorist can help advise you which direction to go.

Keep in mind that reds fade faster than any other color, so you’ll either

need to get retouched more frequently to refresh the color. Using color

protecting shampoo’s will help preserve the color as long as possible.

Warm browns are gorgeous, they almost look edible. Chocolate cherry,

mocha, food named colors that make you want to keep coloring that

shade to feed your appetite. There are different types of warm browns

that totally depend on pigment saturation. Talk to your stylist for recom-

mendations and ideas. You can go to the store and buy a box, but that

won't give you the color training that your stylist has.

Ashy brunette is making a comeback. Its not totally ashy, but a step

in that direction. If your hair isn’t long enough, you can get exten-

sions that are a “natural” brown, but looks a little ashy paired up next

to anything else. The color is fun, if you have the right undertones in

your skin. Either try on a wig or lay those extensions across your skin

in natural light so you can see what it will do to the appearance of

your skin. You can't always be the most objective person when making

decisions for yourself, so get opinions from other people around you.

Strangers or professionals may pick up on something you would miss.

Hair color is supposed to be fun, so don’t take it too seriously. Talk to

a professional if you are unsure of what you are doing. That can save

you a lot of time and money in the long run. If you’re determined to

use box color, at least call the toll-free number on the box to get the

opinion of the professionals provided by the hair color manufactures.

I even give some clients advice on what to use. Play around with it and

see if you can find the perfect fall color for you.

Hello everyone! I’ve been getting so many questions regarding pre-workouts (what’s the best to take, when to take it and how much to take). Well Active readers, you asked the questions and I am here to answer them! Let’s review some of the top pre-workout supplements out on the market today.

ASSAULT is very unique from the other pre-workout supplements because it contains a recovery aspect to it. The recovery portion of this pre-workout supplement contains both glutamine and creatine. These two ingredients being included actually saves

your wallet since you don’t have to buy them separately to aid in your recovering process from your workouts. Combine this supplement with the strong energy you get from the mind connection matrix and you have one of the strongest pre-workout supplements on the market.

42 ACTIVE

Another crowd favorite is C4 EXTREME BY CELLUCOR. C4 is one of the more basic pre-workout supplements consisting of Arginine, Beta Alanine and an energy complex. Just because I call this pre-workout supplement a bit more basic, it still packs a punch! The main

attraction to this product is the value that you get for the cost. There is 60 servings for only $40. You just can’t go wrong.

The last pre-workout product I want to go over is my favorite, the KRONIC PUMP. What sets the Kronic Pump apart is the energy you get when you take it. In just a tiny scoop you receive more ingredients than any other pre-workout supplement because there are no additional

fillers to this product. That’s not just it either, they add plenty of electrolytes so you won’t cramp up as you sweat from training. All of these pre-workout supplements can be purchased at Jax Sports Nutrition on the corner of Atlantic and San Pablo. Come by any time for a free sample and try them for yourself! Until next month, train hard!

FAT HAS TO BE THE MOST DEBATED PART OF FOOD.  Most people are so scared of fat due to guidelines like the food pyra-mid. But the truth is fat is the only macronutrient that has no effect on insulin.  This means that it helps to regulate blood sugar and insulin, which means less lipogenesis or less fat storage. Fat also stimulates a number of hormones like cholecystokinin which helps provide a feeling of fullness and decreases the cravings.

Liposoluble vitamins like Vitamin A, D, E & K are optimally absorbed in the presence of a fat source. These vitamins are needed for opti-mal health so adding a little bit of organic olive oil to your veg-etables is a great way of achieving this. As a side note on liposoluble vitamins, you can run the risk of becoming toxic if you take too much because they can be stored in the body unlike water soluble vitamins. Fat is an essential part of our cell membranes and aids in detoxification. Good fat sources contain a number of antioxidants.

GOOD FAT SOURCES CONTAIN A NUMBER OF ANTIOXI-DANTS If your diet is not at least 30% fat, your sex hormone levels are not going to be optimal.  One benefit of an increased fat intake is

a corresponding increase in testosterone, which means less fat stor-age. On the flip side, avoidance of fat in a diet is a really good way of nutritionally castrating males and decreasing sex drive and vitality in females.  If you want to figure out if diet does contain this 30% amount, you will need to figure your total caloric intake each day and how many calories you are consuming from fat each day.  You can do this with online calculators.

OMEGA 3 FAT SOURCES HELPS WITH BRAIN FUNCTION.Omega 3 fat sources (and in particular EPA) has anti inflammatory properties so it is good for joints and injuries.  In fact, for all rehab protocols, I make sure my patients are taking at least 3000mg Omega 3 (e.g. combined EPA & DHA values in the capsule) per day.

Fish oil (the best source of Omega 3 fats) increases basal metabolic rate, helping you burn more calories overall. Along with carnitine, it improves the use of fat as a fuel source during exercise meaning you use less muscle glycogen and more fat for your training. This means you lose body fat faster.

There are obviously some negatives about eating fat. Trans fat is the worst fat. It is produced by adding hydrogen atoms to fat which changes the carbon structure from its natural form. Hydrogenating the fat source stabilizes the fat so it lasts longer and also improves taste but unfortunately it also happens to be a real killer. Trans fat has been shown to raise LDL, and a long term studies suggest you get an increase of 1/3 inch extra on your waist per year if you increase your trans fat intake by a mere 2%.

Avoid almost all trans fats at all costs.  The World Health Organiza-tion recommends that the only safe level in our diets is 0%. Interest-ingly enough, though, there are some naturally occurring trans-

saturated fats that do help with your health and fat loss. Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) is sold as a popular fat loss supplement, which has been shown to decrease abdominal (visceral) body fat, cancer risk and also increase muscle gains in the extremities. It is also a re-ally good idea to be taking if you use whey protein as your protein source due to it’s effect on betacellulin (which is a cancer causing compound) found in diary that has had CLA removed like whey and skim milk. But, it is only part a trans fat mainly found in beef and diary products.

SO WHERE SHOULD YOU GET YOUR FAT SOURCES?• Smaller Fish (Larger fish like swordfish, tuna and shark all con-

tain higher levels of mercury than smaller fish)• A can of tuna once a fortnight probably won’t hurt you but

overconsumption on tuna can definitely lead to heavy metal toxicity.

• Practitioner range Omega 3 supplements • Ground flax seeds & Nuts

Avocados• Oils like olive, macadamia, coconut and avocado• I like to rotate through my cooking oils: olive, macadamia and

coconut are all great choices• Now most natural occurring fats are all fine and as you can

see even natural trans fats like CLA can be beneficial.  This also includes most saturated fats that are actually essential for cell formation, hormonal health and more!

I commonly recommend that your diet contain at least 30% fat.

Real Steel • PG-13A retired pugilist transitions to the business side of the ropes after human boxers are replaced by robotic ones in director Shawn Levy’s feature-length adaptation of the Twilight Zone episode “Steel.” Charlie Kenton (Hugh Jackman) was fighting for the title when the sport of boxing was changed forever. Now, instead of humans duking it out for the masses, huge, powerful steel robots trade blows in the ring. As a result, former gladiator Charlie has been forced into the role of two-bit promoter, piecing together cut-rate fighting bots from scrap metal as he makes the rounds on the underground boxing circuit. Just when it seems that Charlie has sunken to the na-dir of his career, his estranged son, Max (Dakota Goyo), offers him the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity at a comeback by constructing

and training a true champion. Now the stakes are higher than ever before, and Charlie is fully prepared to coach his robot to victory so that he can finally leave an indelible mark on the sport he once dedicated his life to.

Footloose • PGHustle & Flow director Craig Brewer takes the helm for this remake of the popular 1984 musi-cal romance about a big-city teen who moves to a town that has outlawed dancing. Uprooted from Boston and reluctantly transplant-ed to the small Bible Belt town of Bomont, Ren MacCormack (Kenny Wormald) finds himself in a repressed community still reel-ing from a devastating loss. Shortly before he arrived in Bomont, five local teens perished in a tragic car accident following a local dance. As a result, the upstanding

Reverend Shaw Moore (Dennis Quaid) and the local councilmen passed a strict ordinance outlaw-ing both dancing and excessively loud music. Convinced that the new law is hopelessly misguided, rebellious Ren puts on his dancing shoes and wins the heart of Rever-end Moore’s distraught daughter, Ariel (Julianne Hough), while showing his fellow classmates that it’s perfectly normal to blow off a little steam with some loud music and good friends.

The Thing • RAn American paleontologist and a team of Norwegian scientists fight for their lives against a shape-shifting extraterrestrial that can perfectly mimic any living creature in this prequel to John Carpen-ter’s 1982 horror classic. Upon receiving word that the Antarctic research team has unearthed an alien craft, paleontologist Kate Lloyd (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) joins the group to explore what se-crets the ship might hold. Though by Kate’s estimation the creature inside the spaceship has been dead for centuries, it has actually just been lying dormant in the ice.

Perfectly preserved, it has awaited the day when it would finally be freed from its frigid prison; now, after eons of lying in wait, that day has finally come. Suddenly revived during a crucial experiment, the malevolent alien begins methodi-cally mimicking each member of the crew undetected. By the time Kate realizes the frightening im-plications of the creature’s unique ability, it may already be too late. As paranoia among the crew begins to intensify, it’s up to Kate and the crew’s helicopter pilot, Carter (Joel Edgerton), to make sure the extraterrestrial menace is exterminated before it has the op-portunity to escape -- for, should it manage to make its way to a heavily populated area, humanity’s days may be numbered.
