Pupil interviews

BOY: Year 7- Oliver Abbott

Q1: What is the first thing you remember about St Aidan’s?

My first day; everyone was very nice and welcoming. I was nervous and worried I wouldn’t make friends but I soon did.

Q2: What would you improve about the school?

I would like lockers for year 7s as taking your bags around all day takes up space in the classrooms.

Q3: What has been your favourite school trip?

I haven’t been on one yet but I’m looking forward to the Northumberland trip with all my friends.

Q4: What’s your best memory of school?

Dunking my form tutor, Miss Riddah, in water at the Flushion roulette for children in need.

GIRL: Year 8- Olivia Stocks (interviewed on her birthday)

Q1: What is the first thing you remember about St Aidan’s?

I liked it because it was a friendly and nice environment. It was quite scary as I was quite small and I got lost a few times!

Q2: What would you improve about the school?

I like the school how it is! Although I think we should get iPads. It would be easier as you wouldn’t get in trouble for forgetting books.

Q3: What has been your favourite school trip?

I really enjoyed the Ullswater trip at Christmas. We got to experience so many different things. In primary school we had a trip with a trapeze but I didn’t go on it as I was scared, but I did at Ullswater because I was really well supported and encouraged.

Q4: What’s your best memory of school?

Ullswater! All that week! We all had a laugh and it was all about good team-work. I wasn’t close to some people in my form before I went, but I was afterwards.

Pupil interviews continued

BOY: Year 9 – Robert Lawes

Q1: What is the first thing you remember about St Aidan’s?

Walking into the form and realising I was a lot taller than everyone else! I was already 5ft 11 - I’m now 6 ft 1!

Q2: What would you improve about the school?

I would like to start school a bit later! Probably at about half 9 and finish at half 2, with a shorter lunch! I would also love some extra English lessons from my favourite English teacher.

Q3: What has been your favourite school trip?

At the moment probably Northumberland, you get a lot more freedom than on the other trips. You get time to go off with your friends more independently. You didn’t have set activities so it was nice to have that freedom!

Q4: What’s your best memory of school?

Mr Pocock’s English lessons, he makes them really interesting and fun and I look forward to them.

GIRL: Year 10 – Katie Oates

Q1: What is the first thing you remember about St Aidan’s?

I made a lot of friends and settled in well, I also thought the teachers were really good. I loved the different areas for pupils – I like the quiet place near the monkey cage. I also loved the library and still do. The food at Aidan’s is really nice and my favourite thing is the cakes.

Q2: What would you improve about the school?

I like the school and the school days set up. I like the uniform but I would prefer to wear my own clothes! I also think assemblies can be quite boring, except Mr Pocock’s whose are really good!

Q3: What has been your favourite school trip?

The coast to coast was my favourite because it was really interesting but also challenging at times – it was 225 miles!

Q4: What’s your best memory of school?

Meeting my friends was the best thing. I also really enjoyed Italy in year 7, except the part where 2 students lost their passports!

Pupil’s inter views continued

BOY: Year 11 – Harry Husband

Q1: What is the first thing you remember about St Aidan’s?

Meeting my friends in the form room, and we found out lots about each other – we’re still good friends now! Also, compared to my old school St Aidan’s was huge and quite scary!

Q2: What would you improve about the school?

I would improve the sports facilities – I would love to get a new AstroTurf. But there’s not a lot to change apart from that to make it better. Everyone loves the Year 11 café as its nice food up there.

Q3: What has been your favourite school trip?

Loch Eil – it was such fun! The environment we were in was fantastic and we did so many things. Plus I went with my friends and that made it even better.

Q4: What’s your best memory of school?

I’d probably say the Loch Eil exhibition when we went walking. It was such nice weather and we went into the sea.

GIRL: Year 12 – Jess Hirst

Q1: What is the first thing you remember about St Aidan’s?

It was big, scary and there were lots of people. I was excited and nervous but after a week I settled in well. I made friends in year 7 in my form that I am still friends with now!

Q2: What would you improve about the school?

I would build a swimming pool so you could go swimming in your free time and use it as part of the gym – it would be really fun! I also think that there should be more cafes or places for the sixth form to go eat.

Q3: What has been your favourite school trip?

Northumberland in year 7 because I got to know everyone better and there was lots of activities to do, it was also really sunny.

Q4: What’s your best memory of school?

The day I found out I had Mr Pocock for my GCSE English classes; it was a very happy day.

Pupil’s inter views continued

BOY: Year 13 – Marcus Byers

Q1: What is the first thing you remember about St Aidan’s?

Getting a bus to school, a single yellow one. My first impressions were that it was big with a lot of pupils compared to my primary school – where there were only 70 people! I was nervous but made a lot of friends in the first week.

Q2: What would you improve about the school?

I would improve the food a bit, I would bring the salad area back in the café that they closed! I liked the salads and choice of meats etc. I also think the food could go down in price a bit – I spent too much a week on lunches!

Q3: What has been your favourite school trip?

The Ardeche in year 11 – it was sunny and you were 3with all your friends. My favourite activity was the boat because the water was clear and there was no sea salt it was just nice water. It was hard to capsize and nice to jump in!

Q4: What’s your best memory of school?

The Ardeche again because I was with all my friends and didn’t have to worry about school or work and it was so nice and sunny.

St Aidan’s walks to China!

St Aidan’s is putting its best foot forward and heading for Beijing, the capital of China!

Nearly 700 pupils and staff will be walking the 12 miles to and from Spofforth on the annual sponsored walk on Friday 18th July – which means we will walk about 8,400 miles, roughly the distance between the school and the capital of China.

Walkers will be sponsored with money going to the Neema Craft Centre in Tanzania and the Harrogate HG1000 project to provide water filters in Africa.

This will be the third sponsored walk in a row. The previous two raised over £20,000 for charity.
