The Airports

The Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority

(MNAA) was established in 1970 and owns andoperates Nashville International Airport (BNA) andJohn C. Tune Airport (JWN). A ten member Board ofCommissioners appointed by the Mayor of Nashvilleestablishes policy for the two airports thatcollectively contribute more than $3.7 billion in totaleconomic benefits and more than 38,000 jobsannually to the regional economy. Middle Tennesseeis one of the fastest growing regions in the US andas it continues to grow so will MNAA’s role as aneconomic engine, community leader and culturalambassador on behalf of Nashville.

As the region’s conduit to travel, NashvilleInternational Airport (BNA) often serves as the firstand last impression of the area for travelers toNashville. With that in mind, BNA strives to bring thecity’s unique sounds, tastes, and distinctivesouthern hospitality to the airport environment and awarm and welcoming experience for Nashvillevisitors. As soon as travelers enter the terminal orstep foot off the plane, it’s clear that BNA as well asthe MNAA team represent the energy and spirit ofNashville.

The Authority employs approximately 300 staffmembers who practice the mission, vision, andbrand promise to provide the Nashville AirportsExperience through outstanding customer service,facilities, and services, bringing the heartbeat ofMusic City to the airport.

With more than 13.5 million passengers flowingthrough BNA annually it is one of the fastestgrowing airports in North America. BNA is servedby 12 passenger service airlines and three cargocarriers and has approximately 440 passengerflights daily to more than 50 nonstop markets. Lastyear the annual enplanements increased over 10%and this is the fourth year in a row that BNA has setnew all-time passenger records. Several newcarriers and routes have been announced in the lastcouple of years including the anticipated entry ofBritish Airways in May 2018 to London, England.

BNA is transforming. BNA Vision is a growth and expansionplan in the airport’s continued effort tomaintain Nashville International Airport as a world-classfacility for the future of Nashville. It’s the type ofinnovative undertaking and bold planning that’s neededto accommodate Middle Tennessee’s boomingpopulation and the airport’s record-breaking passengerincreases. By 2035, the population of the Greater NashvilleArea is expected to surpass 2.5 million people, and the BNApassenger traffic is expected to grow from 13.5 millionpassengers of today to more than 20 million passengers.

BNA is currently ranked the 33rd largest of all commercialservice airports in the United States and the total annualrevenues exceed $182 million with an annual operatingbudget of over $76 million. The capital improvement budgetin 2016 was over $185 million with the largest projectsincluding a quarry geothermal project, taxiway and runwayreconstruction, and breaking ground on a new terminal areaparking garage and transportation center.

Additional facilities that are under design with plannedconstruction in the near term to accommodate the region’sgrowth are a new international arrivals building, additionalramp expansion, Concourse D expansion and constructionalong with an enhanced security checkpoint area, ticketlobby and baggage claim area revitalization. The Authorityis also planning for an on-site hotel and multi-modelconnector as well as roadway redevelopment. This levelof financial investment to fully realize the BNA Vision isapproximately 1.2 billion dollars.

John C. Tune is Tennessee’s busiest general aviation airport,serving as a reliever for BNA, as well as a hub for corporatetravelers and aviation enthusiasts. With a 3,600-square-footterminal, 125 T-hangars and two enclosed hangars of 21,000and 18,000 square feet, JWN operates 24 hours a day.

The Community

From the moment you step from the plane into theterminal at Nashville, you know you are in Music City.Live music fills the air and you can feel its pulse asyou walk through the airport. Visitors quickly discoverwhat locals appreciate...the culture and history, thegreat food, sports, outstanding academics, naturalbeauty, and pure Southern charm of Nashville.

MUSIC & ENTERTAINMENT – Well known for itscountry music industry, popular sites include theCountry Music Hall of Fame and Museum, Grand OleOpry, and Ryman Auditorium, called the"Mother Church of Country Music."Each year the CMA Music Festivalbrings thousands of fans to thecity. But country only tells half thestory—Bonnaroo Music & ArtsFestival has become a destinationfor hundreds of thousands of fans whoflock to nearby Manchester, Tennessee toexperience music of all kinds, from rock & roll andsoul to electronic dance music and hip hop.

The Nashville of today is known for its vibrant anddiverse entertainment scene. The TennesseePerforming Arts Center is the major performing artscenter of the city. It is the home of the TennesseeRepertory Theater, the Nashville Opera, the Music CityDrum and Bugle Corps, and the Nashville Ballet. TheSchermerhorn Symphony Center is the home of theNashville Symphony.

Nashville also has an active theatre scene with severalprofessional and community theatre companies. Mostnotable of the professional companies are NashvilleChildren's Theatre, Tennessee Repertory Theatre, theNashville Shakespeare Festival, the Dance Theatre ofTennessee and the Tennessee Women's theaterProject. Of the community theatres, Circle Players hasbeen in operation for over 60 years.

CULTURE – Nashville earned its "Music City" monikerin the 1950s and has maintained its status as a globalcenter of the entertainment industry ever since. Theenergy and diversity of our local music scene havebeen praised in publications such as Travel + Leisure,Nylon, SPIN and Rolling Stone.

Music put Nashville on the map, but it's not the city’sonly claim to fame. Entertainment options includemajor-league sports teams; an extensive public parkand greenway system; museums and art galleries; aprofessional symphony orchestra; opera, ballet andtheatre companies; and numerous cultural festivalsand events. There's something for everyone todiscover.

FOOD & WINE – While Nashville has long been known forits expansive music scene, the talent and creativity of itsculinary scene has recently put Nashville on the map. Food &Wine highlighted the "booming Music City food scene," FoodArts Magazine noted the "emerging culinary scene puttingNashville on the gastronomic radar" and, most recently,Condé Nast Traveler stated this about Music City: "There'senough going on food-wise to warrant a trip solely for eating".Nashville's creative spirit has certainly infiltrated into itskitchens, turning them into the chef's studio. From Southernfare to haute cuisine to quite literally everything in between,Nashville's palate offers it all.

EDUCATION – Nashville and the Middle Tennessee region ishome to 25 colleges and universities including VanderbiltUniversity, Belmont University, Meharry Medical College, andFisk University, to name a few. By the 1850s, the city wasknown as the “Athens of the South” for the number of highereducation establishments in the area and being the firstsouthern city in America to establish a public school system.

SPORTS – Nashville has many professional sports teams,most notably the Nashville Predators and Tennessee Titans,Nashville Sounds, Nashville Venom, and Nashville FootballClub. Nashville is home to four college Division I athleticprograms and is host of the Franklin American MortgageMusic City Bowl.

ECONOMY – The greater Nashville region is home to morethan 1.9 million people and more than 40,000 businesses.Many corporate headquarter giants call Middle Tennesseehome, including Nissan North America, BridgestoneAmericas, HCA, Dollar General, LP Building Products,Cracker Barrel, Asurion, and Gibson Guitar. A national hub forthe creative class, Nashville has the strongest concentrationof the music industry in America.

The Nashville region’s educated workforce not only providesan abundant talent pool for companies, but also bolsters theregion’s vibrancy, artistic and musical essence, andcompetitive edge in technology and innovation. The PositionReporting to the Chief Legal Officer, the AssistantVice President, Human Resources is responsible forcreating and implementing HR and organizationdevelopment strategy; planning and delivering workthat maintains the total human resources function.Other responsibilities include the oversight of theadministrative department for the MNAA.Developing, communicating, and maintaining HRpolicies, procedures, and work instructions are akey function of the position as well as assisting andcoaching MNAA managers/supervisors concerningHR-related issues.

The ideal candidate will have knowledge of federal,state, and local human resources laws andregulations. This candidate will be skilled in theprinciples and strategies of talent acquisition,employee development, performance management,succession planning, compensation and benefits,and employee relations. Expertise in HR technologyis also required for this position.

The Assistant Vice President, Human Resourcescreates organizational objectives that align withorganizational strategies and is able to develop,coach, and mentor the Human Resources andAdministrative staff.

Position Qualifications

The successful candidate will have earned aBachelor’s Degree in Human ResourcesManagement or related field and have ten years ofrelevant experience. Preferred qualifications includea Master’s Degree in Human Resourcesmanagement, business administration, or relatedfield, and ten plus years of relevant experience.SHRM-SCP or SHRM SPHR certification isdesirable.

Salary & Compensation

The salary range for this position is $135,000 to$150,000 with an exceptional benefit package. Inaddition to base salary, the incumbent is eligible fora 12% bonus, and a DC plan contribution of 10%annually, if the employee contributes 1% into theplan.
