ForewordIt is no secret that education plays a vital role in a person’s

life. It creates a positive impact not only on the individual but

also to the bigger community where he belongs.

The articles in this issue of the CENTRO Magazine illustrate

this truth.

With the theme, Coming Home, the magazine features

the Alumni on Campus -- those who completed their

education at LSGH and were given the opportunity to serve

their alma mater.

Join me in reading the interviews with these alumni who

have come “home.” Their stories truly inspire, transform and

humble the soul.

THE PAST

Why did your family choose LSGH for your Grade School and High School? According to my parents, LSGH was one of the most prestigious basic education schools in the country at that time and due to the school being close to our house.

As a student, who were the people from school who were memorable to you? Why were they memorable?

Some of the most memorable were my first teachers in Grade 1, my homeroom adviser Miss Zablan. She was very strict and looked like Catwoman, ready to pounce on you if you make a mistake. Ms. Boac was another, although she was not my teacher, I used to see her everyday because her advisory class was right next to my section. She looked scary and funny at the same time because of her Darth Vader hairstyle with huge round glasses to match. There was another lower grades female teachers like Mrs. Gozum who, it seemed, was pregnant yearly from when I was in Grade 1 all the way to 7! Miss Yetta Lugue was also a favorite Science teacher, she was so bubbly and seemed to enjoy teaching, it made learning Science fun and easy. Ms. Rolia Nery was a fun-filled CL teacher. She made CL classes fun to be in when i was in Grade 4 I think. Mrs. Purita Navarro was my CL teacher and Grade 7 HRA and Mrs. Samson, my 4th year History and HRA, they were very motherly. Very loving and concerned.

What would you consider your best/most memorable grade/year level and why?

Memorable levels were Grade 7 and 4th year HS. I was in the Rondalla club in the GS and we had performances at the Meralco Theater, these were huge yearly events. That time we also had level or class field trips out of town. We were able to go as far as Baguio with our teachers. In 4th year, we were lucky to have a Kabihasnan

Fair in our last year. Our class handled the Jail Booth, we had so much fun (and I think we had a Friday to Sunday Kabihasnan Fair then). I also had the best HRAs in those 2 levels.

Did you ever get involved in a misdemeanor? Can’t recall any. I was a consistent “A” in Conduct student :)On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 as the highest, how happy were you then as an LSGH student? Explain.

10. Life was simple, traffic was not as bad, all gates in LSGH could be used. Our lessons were not as complicated. We had time to play. We had a half-day schedule of classes in HS.

THE PRESENT

Why did you choose to work in LSGH?

I originally had no intentions of teaching in LSGH. I went to the school one day to visit Mrs. Samson and my other teachers. Like all former teachers, they’d ask about my course in college, my work, family, etc. She then invited me to teach in LSGH when she heard I took a course in Music. She said that there’s a teaching position open in the GS. Some teachers were retiring like Mrs. Marian Yan and some were resigning. She told me to give it a try. However, I said I was not an education grad, I didn’t even know how to make a lesson plan. But she still prodded me to try and so I did. The rest is history and this is my 20th year in LSGH.

Did you find your Lasallian education to be useful outside school? How was it useful?

Yes, perspectives in life changed after graduating from LSGH. I think I grew more compassionate and sympathetic to others.

How would you best describe an LSGH student, what sets them apart from the rest?

Confident. I notice how an LSGH student would

mingle in a crowd instead of just sit in a corner especially in soirees. He can speak fluently in an assembly. How is the school different now com-pared to your time? Lessons are more complicated. However, teaching styles are more fun and interactive today. The grounds seem much smaller due to the new structures and renovations. There are more spiritual and social action activities. I think the mission-vision has also undergone some changes from what it was then.

How are the students different now compared to your time?

Students are more technology-driven these days. It really depends on what life or a particular time period or technological advances can offer. Students are a lot bolder today in terms of respect for teachers and their elders. Many students these days are very much pampered by both parents and the school.

If you could add and/or change 1 or 2 things in LSGH now, what would it be?

I would like to extend the campus grounds to EDSA. I would also like it to be a homework-free school. Much like the schools in Finland.

On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 as the highest, would you recommend other alumni to work here in LSGH? Explain.

8.5. Yes, I would recommend other alumni to work in LSGH. If asked why, I would probably tell them it’s like “giving back to an institution that has given me so much in my youth.”

If you love your work, your work will love you back (in some ways.) Stress will be less. Personal fulfillment and enjoyment will be more.

It feels really good to work in LSGH. One, there is a certain comfort in working in a place where you know the people. Two, it gives a feeling of being able to give back what the school has given you. Differences as a student, you tend to be a little less responsible of your behavior. Because at the back of your head, you might get away with it. I’m young and that makes me feel invincible. As a professional, you are aware of your responsibilities, of your obligations, of your duties. So responsibility comes in. Tact is observed. It helps that I know the students. It makes it easier for me to be more patient and understanding of them. For a community that has helped mold me to become the person that I am, I am and will always be thankful! Everyday, before going to school, I would always ask myself, what is it that I can do for the school today to make it better than how it was before because I am just grateful of this community.

THE PAST

Why did your family choose LSGH for your Grade School and High School? LSGH is a prestigious school for boys and my parents wanted me to experience quality education.

As a student, who were the people from school who were memorable to you? Why were they memorable?

Most of my homeroom advisers were memorable. They showed me the most care a teacher could show. I have a number of subject teachers who were also memorable, because they taught their subject well, they challenged me most as a student, they also saw potential in me. Teachers who taught Science, English, Filipino, and Social Science were memorable because these were my favorite subjects. Math teachers in HS were also very memorable be-cause I had difficulties with the subject. The scout masters in GS were also memorable especially with all the camping done in GS. The HS guidance counselors too because they inspired me to pursue a career in behavioral science. The students from ANHS as well because I would always volunteer to do human resource training with them, and they helped me become grounded by sharing with me their stories and experiences. Also the classmates I had from 3rd year - 4th year because we were together the longest.

Who was your favorite teacher/home-room adviser/guidance counselor?

I should say that all my homeroom advisers were favorites from Kinder to Fourth Year; Ms. Bugayong, Ms. Alma, Ms. Beth, Ms. Cecil, Ms.

Lou, Mr. Dante, Ms. Lerma, Ms. Garfin, Ms. Amy, Ms. Emmy, Ms. Dolly, Ms. Vio,

Ms. Ampi, and Ms. Vicky. For teachers; Dr. Evan, Ms. Beth, Ms.

Lina, Mr. Ochave, Ms. Mendoza, Ms. San Miguel, Ms. Salanguit, Mr. Clemen. For prefect, Mr. Miguel. For guidance counselors, Mr. Rono and Ms. Grace.

What would you consider your best/most memorable grade/year level and why? Grade 7, our class was picked to perform at the auditorium. HS1 was camping, HS2 I was made senior scout. HS3 I was part of the honors class and made an honorary member of PCO. HS4 overnight reachout and retreat.

Share 1 unforgettable experience as an LSGH student that you can recall.

I was a nominee for the Alfonso Yuchengo Na-tional Discipline Award. There was a delay in the process and I initially thought that I did not get the award. I did receive it and that was a special experience for me.

Did you ever get involved in a misde-meanor?

I did a number of times. One was in GS. I didn’t know that it was “sili.” I showed my classmates. They played with it and ended up rubbing it on their eyes. I was identified as the instigator.Another one was sharing and opening a pornographic magazine in the classroom. This happened in HS.

On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 as the highest, how happy were you then as an LSGH student? Explain.

I would say 7. Especially in HS when I started asking about things in life, where I saw some certain unfairness in the system. Or I wanted to be an agent of change but I felt a little bit powerless. But the fun moments were really fun moments!

THE PRESENT

Why did you choose to work in LSGH?I always teased by the PCO moderator back then that I wanted to become the PCO moderator as well. I also saw that the guidance office of LSGH as trailblazing during those times and I wanted to be employed as a guidance counselor there because I will learn a lot.Did you find your Lasallian education to be useful outside school? How was it useful?Yes. It was really helpful. Especially being in the honors class. I found some subjects in college fairly easy. Having gone through a number of leadership trainings and human resource train-ings also helped me to be very active in student activities in college. How would you best describe an LSGH student, what sets them apart from the rest?Confident. They can even be confident to a fault. Also, they are expressive. You will hear a piece of their mind even if you don’t ask them. How is the school different now compared to your time? Facilities. There are higher buildings. Teachers. There are more younger teachers. But it is still home. How are the students different now compared to your time?We played outside. We were playing with marbles in the field. We were running around. I see a few students who still do. But a number are glued to their gadgets. The HS students are still very conscious about their looks. On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 as the highest, would you recommend other alumni to work here in LSGH? Explain.10. It’s a great experience to be able to work for your Alma Mater. It can be comfortable though, so we have to be conscious of that as well.

THE PAST

Why did your family choose LSGH for your Grade School and High School?

My father is an alumnus of De La Salle Taft Batch 58. I took up my grade school in DLSU. At the time of the phase-out, it was either Zobel or GH for HS. I figured that the choice was GH since it was situated along the way to my dad’s office, and most of my classmates were studying here.

As a student, who were the people from school who were memorable to you? Why were they memorable?

I tend to remember those who have been so much a part of who I am today... classmates, teachers, the Brothers. Even the vendors outside the gate along Ortigas Ave. were a part of my life (I will not expound on this.)

Who was your favorite teacher/homeroom adviser and why?

Teddy Villanueva, Rhodora Tolentino, Br. Rolly, Br. Bernie, Br. Mawel... Mrs. Capco to name a few.

Mommy Rose too (though I was never a part of Kundirana... she felt I could carry a tune... FELT!)

Simply because they took care of me and believed I could be more than what I expected from myself.

What would you consider your best/most memorable year level and why?

Third & fourth year HS. These were the years I was active in school activities. I was with the track and field varsity team where we were champions for two consecutive years in the major leagues, Search-In, Discovery, CUE.

Share your unforgettable experi-ence/s, special activities or events as an LSGH student that you can recall.

Riding in a dump truck to bring sets to the Mer-alco Theater for a CUE play, walking to Unimart/Virramall after classes (or even before.) Our class schedules were different then. 1st & 2nd year in the morning / 3rd & 4th year in the afternoon. The weekly soirees, prom, grad ball. Bonfire Disco, Kabihasnan... ang dami!

Did you ever get involved in a misdemeanor? Tell us what it was about!

I’d rather not. ;) Sige na nga... VR for violating the haircut policy. The only VR I had courtesy of Mrs.Pilapil.

On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 as the highest, how happy were you then as an LSGH student? Explain.

10! When people say that HS should be the hap-piest time in the life of a student, they were not kidding. It is in HS that you are able to meet your friends for life (some even earlier that that,) do the craziest thing/s... and get the hardest learn-ing as a consequence from these crazy things.

THE PRESENT

Why did you choose to work in LSGH?

Well, I did think about being a La Salle Brother at one point in my life but that did not happen. I worked in the industry for 15 years after a short teaching stint at USLS. God must have called me back to the academe through significant people to apply at LSGH... and I did , but was not accept-ed on the first attempt. I tried again the following year... and was accepted. Why? To give back, to find myself, and participate in the mission of our Founder.

Did you find your Lasallian education to be useful outside school? How was it useful?

Of course! I am, in all humility, able to share the values espoused by St. La Salle to those entrusted to my care as a Lasallian educator.

How would you best describe an LSGH student, what sets them apart from the rest? We’re “down to earth;” grounded on a set of values learned from the school. We are sociable creatures, ready to help in the best way we can!

How is the school different now compared to your time?

Facilities are better, classroom are airconditioned, whiteboards, TV monitors... but what remains are the traditions -- Alma Mater Hymn, Lasallian Core Values integrated in instruction and activities. These become essential in what LSGH was and will be tomorrow.

How are the students different now compared to your time?

They seem to be more contained. Rules have changed somehow... in keeping up with the times really. We were seemingly “more free” to discover things beyond the 4 walls of the classroom... and we did. When we did something wrong, our parents were very apologetic. Now, well, as I’ve mentioned...iba na ang panahon.

If you could add and/or change 1 or 2 things in LSGH now, what would it be?

None. The directions set by the institution are clear and very much grounded on the mission of the Founder.

On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 as the highest, would you recommend other alumni to work here in LSGH? Explain.

10! Come home and give back, share the legacy... your legacy as an alumnus to this great institution.

The fulfillment of working in LSGH goes beyond measure. It comes by way of a student who greets you first in the morning, an affirmation of lessons taught when students seek to help out those in need, or smiles on faces of colleagues who enjoys the work inspite of the load.

THE PAST

Why did your family choose LSGH for your Grade School and High School? My batchmates from De La Salle College Grade School (1964) were transferred to LSGH due to the phasing out of the high school in Taft. My parents and I wanted for me to finish my basic education in a Lasallian school, and since there was no other Lasallian high school at that time other than LSGH, the choice became apparent.

As a student, who were the people from school who were memorable to you? Why were they memorable? My homeroom advisers, notably Mr. Sergio Isberto (for fresh-man year) and Mr. Roberto Catli (for senior year) were the two most memorable persons I met in school.

Mr. Isberto was like a parent who doted on us. He fully knew we were adjusting to high school life so he was kind and gentle when he dealt with us. Mr. Catli, on the other hand, was like an older brother who was gentle and reasonable, but strict and firm with his decisions. Both of them had the integrity and the bearing of a great educator. One could sense their dedica-tion, fairness, concern and caring for their students.

I also had classmates who I remember fondly, most especially my homeroom classmates. Senior year was a turning point. I saw myself growing up and becoming more responsible and confident. I got involved with many classroom activities, including the class paper. The Days with the Lord was a signifi-cant event because that was when my father wrote me a letter expressing his love for me.

When I was in freshman year, I remember seeing a familiar face - the “Ates” from Archers Nook back in Taft who was also the canteen operator in LSGH at that time. They were an assur-ing presence which helped me adjust to my new environment.

The Brothers were also memorable: Br. Hugh, Br. Aquinas, Br. Kevin, Br. Sam Bueser, Br. Leon Castiglioni... somehow, they left an imprint on me of people who genuinely cared, of persons who knew what they were doing. They did their jobs well and with passion. They had real self-confidence.

I also remember two school bus drivers who were part of my high school. I remember one of them, Dave. I forgot the other one’s name already but I can still recall how he looked.

What would you consider your best/most memorable year level and why?The best and most memorable year for me was in senior year. It gave me a feeling of elation because that was my graduation year and the last year in high school. I was excited to go to college then. I saw my transformation from a quiet and shy person to a more sociable and engaging and active one. Senior year was the culmination of all the efforts and the difficulties I encountered in high school. It was like being born again, and getting ready to face a new world. It was a liberating experience.

Share 1 or 2 unforgettable experience/s, special activities or events as an LSGH student that you can recall. The baccalaureate mass and commencement exercises were the two top unforgettable experiences I had at LSGH. It sig-naled the closing of a door to an era at the same time opening

the doors to a new beginning.

The other memorable experience was when we (the Crack Platoon) conducted our well-prac-

ticed silent drill in front of the whole school

and guests during a Pre-Naval Training (PNT) ceremony. We did it perfectly well and we were all happy that all the hard-ships we went through paid off in the end.

Did you ever get involved in a misde-meanor?I remember doing two things that I did that rewarded me with some punishment:

1) I was caught cheating in a test by our Pilipino teacher, Ms. Nelia Ruiz. She took my test paper and gave me a failing mark for that test.

2) I was caught by a teacher horsing around inside the classroom and we were sent to the Principal’s office and was given a disciplinary spanking by the Principal (Br. Hugh) using a wooden paddle.

On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 as the highest, how happy were you then as an LSGH student? Explain. My answer here will vary as to when:

During my 1st Year, I give it a score of 4. I was unhappy because of the transfer from De La Salle Taft to LSGH. The adjustment was tough.

From 2nd year to 3rd year, I was happier, and I would score it at 6. The adjustment period was somewhat over, and the excitement over new things like our lockers and the open class schedules which resembled that of college, made life more bearable and exciting.

Senior year I will score a 9. It was a turning point in my high school life.

THE PRESENT

Why did you choose to work in LSGH?I was invited by an alumnus to help out Br. Vic with a new office that was being created. I was at first hesitant to take on the offer because I wanted to rest for a while after spending almost a year to write a book. However, after talking to Br. Vic about the job, I felt I could contribute something to help the school in the challenges it was facing, especially in marketing and promotions. Primarily, I took the job because I was challenged by what were needed to be done. Other reasons were: my affiliation with the Brothers, especially with Br. Vic who is an old friend, and of course, doing something for my Alma Mater.

Did you find your Lasallian education to be useful outside school? How was it useful?I am a Lasallian through and through, from grade school to college. This being the case, I have to consider my whole Lasallian education since I entered school, and not just my high school in LSGH.

Overall, the education I got from La Salle was beneficial to me on several levels: the alumni network and therefore the cama-raderie/brotherhood which gave me access to many career opportunities; the extracurricular activities, particularly the ones I engaged in when I was in college, which were instru-mental in bringing out my leadership traits and in developing my organizational and person skills; my spiritual growth during my formation years with the Brothers; and lastly, my personal relationships with friends who I met while in school which until today are still active and intact.

How would you best describe an LSGH student, what sets them apart from the rest?Among the students and graduates of elite schools like Ateneo and La Salle, there aren’t that much distinguishable differences in terms of intellectual capacities, social skills and personality traits. Although I have heard it said before that Lasallians are more sociable and friendlier and easier going than their Ateneo counterparts, my exposure to Ateneans didn’t show that much difference.

However, when compared with other students or alumni of other schools, I can immediately detect the differences in levels of self-confidence, in levels of social and cultural sophis-tication, and in levels of communication skills particularly flu-ency in English. In other words, the LSGH student or alumnus can be set apart with students from other non-elite schools, but not with students from the same elite schools.

How is the school different now compared to your time? During our time, we were experimented on with many things: from uniforms, schedules and teachers, to extracurricular activities. One outstanding difference during my time and now are the physical facilities. We didn’t have the Benilde Gym, swimming pool, all-weather track oval, electives like culinary arts, etc.

How are the students different now compared to your time?Practically similar in terms of personalities, styles, ways of communication, etc. The difference perhaps is how we handle stress and school demands. I think my generation could do more and were more resilient compared to the youth today who are more pampered and overly protected by their parents. I think we were tougher then than the kids nowadays.

If you could add and/or change 1 or 2 things in LSGH now, what would it be?If I had the power to change things, I will do the following:

1) Change the whole curriculum and pedagogy similar to what is being done in Finland where homework has been minimized or completely eradicated; change the way students are evalu-ated by not focusing much on grades but other performance indicators like real-life accomplishments; have classrooms without walls, meaning, learning should not be bound by the four walls of a room through more effective use of technology.

2) Require teachers to have masters and doctorate degrees, and make them teach in the classroom instead of assigning them as school administrators.

3) Encourage real research in educational content and pedagogy and apply these here. There are many new things coming out in the field of education, but I do not feel and see these reaching LSGH. We remain very traditional. The world is changing fast, we are in the 21st century but our educational approaches are still mainly from the 19th and 20th centuries.

On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 as the highest, would you recommend other alumni to work here in LSGH? Explain.I would give a score of 1. Let the alumni work and learn somewhere first to acquire new knowledge, skills, wisdom, and maturity. Then, right before senility seeps in, or age-related diseases disable them, convince them to give back to the school. Hopefully, they are still physically and mentally capable enough to work at LSGH so they can enrich the DNA of the school by bringing all their experiences and wisdom with them and sharing it with LSGH.

Ricardo R. SantosLSGH/Batch 1968-PRIMUS

Working for LSGH has given me the opportunity to give back not just to my Alma Mater but to the Brothers as well. The working climate and the culture is significantly different from where I have been, and these have been very challenging and very much a learning experience for me. What I would tell people who ask me how different it is being a student and working at LSGH is my reply is this: as a student, you have to pay to be here, but as a professional, the school pays you to be here. However, more than that superficial difference, I can say that I am a more mature and wiser person today than when I was a student here.My message to the school community is this: Do not be afraid to have a vision of what you can still become. Be braver, bolder and more daring to experiment and try out new things. Change should be welcomed with open arms and minds. Change is not the enemy. Complacency is the enemy of real and meaningful education.

THE PAST

Why did your family choose LSGH for your Grade School and High School? They said it was a better school than my former school, O.B. Montessori Greenhills (Grades 1-3).

As a student, who were the people from school who were memorable to you? Why were they memorable?

1. Danny Antonil, English - character teacher, tough but made sure we learned

3. Pet Nieto - made Noli Me Tangere enjoyable for me

4. Laura De Guzman, 3rd Year homeroom and Science teacher

5. Ginny Natividad, English - another tough teacher but made sure we learned something

6. Tere Gorayeb, Filipino - also a tough teacher who made sure I learned something

THE PAST

Why did your family choose LSGH for your Grade School and High School? My parents initially enrolled me in San Beda Col-lege for Grade School. But this was in 1970. With all the demonstrations happening in Mendiola at that time, they opted to transfer me to La Salle Green Hills by 1972.

As a student, who were the people from school who were memorable to you? Why were they memorable?

My teachers created a lasting impression while I was growing up. Even as grade school students, we noticed that a lot of our teachers were single (not married.) It was therefore apparent that they had prioritized teaching over family life, which made us realize how dedicated they were to their teaching profession. When I was in the BOT, we were provided data about the faculty, and I realized that these same teachers had their first job in LSGH and retired from the school, which meant that they had spent their entire life serving LSGH. Such dedication to the profession and the school was indeed unparalleled.

Who was your favorite teacher/home-room adviser?

My Grade 3 HR, Mrs. Lucila Saranglao. Being a transferee from another school, the adjustment was difficult. But she was very patient with me and understood my difficulties. I can still vividly remember her prodding me to study harder and enjoy school more.

What would you consider your best/most memorable grade/year level and why? After having adjusted to my new school, my stay became very enjoyable. I loved going to school, I

loved the company of my classmates and friends in school. I loved the learning that happened everyday. To this day, whenever I look back on my days in LSGH, it always brings a smile to my face.

Share 1 or 2 unforgettable experi-ence/s, special activities or events as an LSGH student that you can recall.

When I was a HS Junior, I joined the Search-In retreat. In those turbulent adolescent years, it was an activity that brought direction to me. It taught me a lot of things about God, my parents, my classmates and friends, but most important of all, about myself.

Did you ever get involved in a misde-meanor? Tell us what it was about!

I invoke my right against self-incrimination!On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 as the highest, how happy were you then as an LSGH student? Explain.

10 no doubt. LSGH was a happy second home for me. When I sit down to ponder upon the happy events of my life, a lot of them happened within the four walls of LSGH.

THE PRESENT

Why did you choose to work in LSGH?

To my mind, a solid Lasallian basic education has been key to whatever success I have reaped in my professional life. I strongly felt that there was a need to “pay back” the school and I was blessed with this opportunity when the Brothers chose me to serve in the BOT. But I have since been twice indebted, because my son also graduated from the school in 2010.

Did you find your Lasallian education to be useful outside school? How was

it useful?

Whatever solid math and science skills, elo-quence in both English and Filipino, written and spoken, critical thinking, good sense of history, strong moral fiber, sense of nationalism, physical fitness that I may have developed, all these trace their roots from LSGH.

How would you best describe an LSGH student, what sets them apart from the rest?

A Lasallian student has the uncanny skill of getting along with anyone. They are not afraid of making fun of themselves because they have a certain sense of confidence which, however, does not border on being cocky.

How is the school different now com-pared to your time? Horrible traffic! How are the students different now compared to your time?

We had less distractions then.If you could add and/or change 1 or 2 things in LSGH now, what would it be?

Another 6 hectares of adjacent land.On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 as the highest, would you recommend other alumni to work here in LSGH? Explain.

I think any alumnus who has realized that to a large degree they have become successful because of their Lasallian education, should consider coming back to the school.

On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 as the highest, would you recommend other alumni to work here in LSGH? Explain.

10. It will be an honor to work for and serve your own Alma Mater, giving and sharing the knowl-edge you have already learned and pass it to the younger generation.

It is an honor serving my Alma Mater! It is like going back from where you started and doing the same things to my team that my teachers taught me. Being an alumnus of LSGH and working on campus at the same time is really fun. You can easily relate with the stories your students tell you unlike other teachers that are not graduates of LSGH. What I wish for an LSGH student is to stay confident in every aspect of life, develop their inner-self and be ready to face real-life after studying.

THE PAST

Why did your family choose LSGH for your Grade School and High School? My Dad graduated from De La Salle College and since we were in Mandaluyong, we were all sent to LSGH.

As a student, who were the people from school who were memorable to you? Why were they memorable?BR. ALPHONSE BLOEMEN FSC - he was my first GS Principal and was the one I looked up to literally and figuratively. He looked very stern and seldom smiled but you could feel his warmth and kindness, especially to the younger students.

BR. ROLY DIZON FSC - he was our Principal from Gr. 6 to HS 3. He was a young Brother then and was more approachable. He also involved a small group of us Gr. 7 students in his thesis preparations, working on Saturday mornings. I was very thrilled to be included in an “adult” endeavor.

ex-BR. JOSE SIY FSC - he came in as HS Principal and President in my senior year. He was very open about our (SACB) plans and suggestions such that we are the only batch to have had three (3) Kabihasnan Fairs and a Graduation Ball with a live band.

BR. GUS BOQUER FSC - he was our Religion teacher, Circulo Head and Kundirana Moderator during my senior year. Working with him in extra-curricular activities taught me better time management, organizing work loads and more attention to details in whatever had to be done.

Who was your favorite teacher/home-room adviser/guidance counselor and why?Ms. MARLENE FAGELA AFSC - she was my Homeroom Adviser in 2nd year and in 4th year. She had come from the same province as I and this gave us a stronger bond. She was always very understanding and kind to us, especially when our high school childishness would show up.

Mrs. REMEDIOS CONCORDIA - she gave extra time and effort to hone our Math skills, giving us after school hours tutorials/enhancement sessions to prepare us for inter-scholastic contests, and just to keep us sharp.

Br. FELIX FSC - he was always approachable and he would call ALL students on their birthdays to give a token gift, a stampita or a rosary, just to let us know that the Brothers care about their wards.

What would you consider your best/most memorable grade/year level and why? 4th year HS - I was in Kundirana and was SACB Treasurer. We had a Kabihasnan Fair to organize, which included the Bb. La Salle pageant. We would meet the class presidents and orga-nization heads weekly to get an update on the preparations in their respective activities. The new HS Principal and President also gave the go-signal for our batch to have our Graduation Ball at a hotel and his office shouldered the cost of having a live band.

Being in the SACB, I was normally in school by 8:30 am, even if our classes began at 12:30 pm. One day, my classmate, Ramon “Montet” Acoymo, saw me at 9:30 am and remarked, “Uy, wala pala tayong contestant sa interclass Math contest today.” I asked what time the contest was, and he said, “10:00 am at the Lecture Hall.” I answered, “O, tara!” So we went to the Lec-ture Hall and registered our team as representing our section. Without any preparations, we were able to win the contest and

we could see the joy in the eyes of our classmates. I think this was the only contest we had won over the other honor section.

Share 1 or 2 unforgettable experi-ence/s, special activities or events as an LSGH student that you can recall.Circulo retreats - this was a retreat Br. Gus Boquer FSC had organized for chosen senior students. As a retreatant, I was awed by how everything seemed to be in place for all the activities. In succeeding retreats, as an auxiliary, I learned of all the hard work and details attended to just to make the retreat memorable for the retreatants.

Did you ever get involved in a misde-meanor? Tell us about it! 4th Year - our class decided to cut class and watch a movie. There were 42 in our class and five (5) had said they could not join us. So that Friday, only five (5) were present. On Monday, all 37 absentees presented excuse letters from our parents. Our homeroom adviser just smiled at us and said, “You all cut classes last Friday. You will all come in on Saturday morning for your punishment.” Sensing the futility of further arguments, we came in Saturday morning with yellow ruled pad paper and ballpens. Our penalty was to write “I will not cut classes again” 500 times. We had four (4) hours to do it. Almost to a man, we rubber banded two (2) ballpens together and wrote out our penalty. We all finished way earlier than expected (of course!)

On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 as the highest, how happy were you then as an LSGH student? Explain.10. I was involved in extra-curricular activities that provided me with learnings I didn’t get in the classroom. Even if I didn’t know how useful these would be later on, it was fun to know I was getting to learn some things my classmates didn’t.

THE PRESENT

Why did you choose to work in LSGH?The opportunity to come and work in LSGH presented itself at a time that I was really feeling very stressed at my former work. A friend informed me of the opening and I thought, well, this could be the answer to my prayers. And, it was.

Did you find your Lasallian education to be useful outside school? How was it useful?I consider my Lasallian education to have been broad. As I mentioned earlier, there were a lot of learnings I got that were not taught in the classroom. All of these became useful in

dealing with various people and situations which presented themselves from time to time.

How would you best describe an LSGH student, what sets them apart from the rest? I believe LSGH students exude an air of confidence in whatever they undertake. Committing mistakes is taken in stride and does not detract from their attempts at reaching their goals.

How is the school different now com-pared to your time? The availability of more advanced facilities and equipment, and seeing the students learning how to maximize the use of available facilities.

How are the students different now compared to your time?Maybe because of the availability of technologically advanced equipment, most students these days seem to have a lack of adaptiveness. Once an equipment malfunctions, they are at a loss as to how to proceed. Their first reaction is to call for school technicians.

If you could add and/or change 1 or 2 things in LSGH now, what would it be?Give students more autonomy in handling their co- and extra-curricular activities, instead of the faculty moderators just giving them orders as to what to do.

On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 as the highest, would you recommend other alumni to work here in LSGH? Explain.10. Working in LSGH is similar to working anywhere else. The work to be done, the interaction with different people, the infrastructure you have to deal with, may all be comparable to other institutions. However, for alumni, there is the added feeling of giving back and being able to help improve your Alma Mater.

LSGH was a second home for eleven (11) years. Coming back to work in LSGH gives me the sense of homecoming of sorts. I am comfortable going around the campus. Any observations, good or bad, is quickly transmitted to the appropriate office for their action. Having studied here gives me the advantage of looking at things from “both” sides, from the perspective of the students as well as from that of the administration. Further, I believe that being an alumnus gives me a stronger feeling of wanting to achieve the school’s potentials.

Being a student then, I looked to the school and my teachers as a source of learnings. I would come to school always expecting to learn a new thing or two. Whether straight from my teachers, or, from the use of the various facilities available, there was always the expectation of learning something new. Now that I am an adult professional working in the school, it is more about being able to help the school provide what our students are looking for. Working with the other administrators, plans are drawn up for the acquisition of new and better facilities and equipment to answer the needs of students. Research is done to find out what the new materials are, and the facilities and equipment available that would enhance the students’ learning experiences.

Live the ANIMO!

THE PAST

Why did your family choose LSGH for your Grade School and High School? I think they thought that LSGH was the best school nearest our house.

As a student, who were the people from school who were memorable to you? Why were they memorable?

A lot, Fr. Paco, all the La Salle Brothers, all my teachers, and the staff... I have always seen the whole La Salle institution as a family. All of them were good examples of how to be a good Christian.

What would you consider your best/most memorable grade/year level and why?

Grade 7 and 4th year... ending a chapter of your life is always memorable... it also means that you are about to start a new 1 and that is exciting.

Did you ever get involved in a misde-meanor? I’d rather not say, hehehe. On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 as the highest, how happy were you then as an LSGH student? Explain.

10. LSGH was my home. I think I spent more time in LSGH than my own house.

THE PRESENT

Why did you choose to work in LSGH?

This is where God led me.Did you find your Lasallian education to be useful outside school? How was it useful?

Yeah, of course. Aside from a balanced educa-tion and holistic formation which helped a lot in all my endeavors, Lasallian education also means that of being a member of vast network of alumni... and that is very important.

How would you best describe an LSGH student, what sets them apart from the rest?

We are holistically formed, a balance of brains, hearts and actions... also our ability to adjust to situations.

How is the school different now com-pared to your time? Very different in terms of facilities, instruction, traffic and teachers. How are the students different now compared to your time?

THE PAST

Why did your family choose LSGH for your Grade School and High School? My mother taught here. In those days, that meant free tuition. Plus caliber of Lasallian education.

As a student, who were the people from school who were memorable to you? Why were they memorable?

Teachers, librarians. Because they could make or break a schoolyear. My classmates, we seriously rocked.

Who was your favorite teacher/home-room adviser/guidance counselor and why?

Too many to mention. Some are still here, some have moved on. It makes me feel old.

What would you consider your best/most memorable grade/year level and why? 3rd and 4thyear HS. Best activities and class composition.Share 1 or 2 unforgettable experience/s, special activities or events as an LSGH student that you can recall.

When we went to Eagle’s Nest to shoot a part of Mga Ibong Mandaragit. We taught each other because we promised no one would be left behind. And we succeeded.

Did you ever get involved in a misde-meanor? Tell us what it was about! I jumped over the fence once because classes were finished (half-day classes that time) but the guards were told to not let us out of the campus. So in the words of the 11th Doctor, “Geronimo!”

On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 as the highest, how happy were you then as an LSGH student? Explain. 10. I feel I had a good social and academic upbringing in the school. However, I received a culture shock when encountering mixed-gender classrooms for the first time, and let’s just say I have a feeling the Science High Schools could give even our best a run for their money. You had everything from expats to troubled teens, the best teachers, and enterprising, mostly respectful students, pre-PC.

THE PRESENT

Why did you choose to work in LSGH?

Because it was there. It was either that or continue gaining weight at home doing nothing.Did you find your Lasallian education to be useful outside school? How was it useful?

Yes. It provided a framework for self-study. It made me self-sufficient and a starter that gave me a set of tools to help me find the answers I needed (well, except for girls. Girls require their own toolset!)

How would you best describe an LSGH student, what sets them apart from the rest?

We’re mostly self-reliant and well-mannered. Before many were high caliber-talented, with religio, mores, and cultura. Now, I don’t know.

How is the school different now com-pared to your time? People are different. Methods of teaching are different. Standards are different. Also, everything is older. Including me.

How are the students different now compared to your time?

The majority of today’s students do not have perseverance in what they do. They lack focus and concentration for the most part. But they are creative.Today’s students, a majority of those I have encountered, lack persistence and are too quick to grab the brass ring of failure.

If you could add and/or change 1 or 2 things in LSGH now, what would it be?

1. More salary, and I don’t mean in the Roman sense of the term.

2. Less reliance on electronic gadgets, especial-ly for those in Grade 3 below. Digital devices like tablets and PCs should only be used as needed. I am not exactly a fan of the obtru-sive inclusion of technology in the classroom.

And I wish the Brothers had accepted a larger area of land for the school.

On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 as the highest, would you recommend other alumni to work here in LSGH? Explain.

9. Because it seems the future of the school seems unsure. Also, why not? Why don’t they want to give something back?

It feels comfortable being in familiar surroundings. That way I can concentrate on work. Though as it is, working in LSGH has been hectic so far.

The difference of between being a student and working here is if you foul up, you bring other people down with you. As an adult your actions have the potential of far-reaching consequences, so you must be careful.

THE PAST

Why did your family choose LSGH for your High School? I finished my grade school from DLS-Taft and was required to go to LSGH for high school. As a student, who were the people from school who were memorable to you? Why were they memorable?1. De La Salle Brothers like Br. Bonaventure

Richard who taught Economics - he was a dynamic teacher; he also inspired me when I started teaching as a La Salle Brother

2. Br. Leon Castiglioni, our high school Principal in 3rd and 4th year - he looked fierce and tough but is really a kind person

3. Br. Roly Dizon, our Religion teacher in 4th year - our class sometimes gave him a tough time but he never gave up on us

4. Br. Samuel Bueser, our Moderator in the 4th year - he was strict but was highly respected by the students

5. Br. Fidelis Leddy- he didn’t teach in the high school but I’d see him walking around the campus always with a big smile

6. Br. Eric Ellingson - he taught us Religion in 3rd year and challenged and shook up the religious beliefs of his students. This led me to search for deeper meaning in my own faith life.

7. We had excellent teachers like Mr. Horacio Cebrero who taught us Pilipino in 4th year (he taught for many years in DLS-Taft HS then transferred to Green Hills and there was no fooling around in his class;) Mr. Villanueva, also a former teacher from DLS-Math who taught Math.

Who was your favorite teacher/home-room adviser and why?Mr. Isberto was our Pilipino teacher in 1st year. He was very fatherly to the students, very patient and understanding. Br. Roly Dizon - My close friends and I would sometimes meet him after class in the afternoon and have long discussions with him until the evening. He was very influential in getting me to join the De La Salle Brothers. What would you consider your best/most memorable year level and why? When I was in 4th year. It was a time for making major decisions with regards to the future.

direction of my life. It was a time of searching for deeper meaning and purpose, and it was the time when I decided to enter the postulancy program of the DLS Brothers.

No.On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 as the highest, how happy were you then as an LSGH student? Explain. 10. My high school years were fun years for me. When I look back at the years when I was a HS student, I just have this wonderful feeling of fond and happy memories in high school. My classmates and I had fun in class and we never ran out of stories about some of the “foolish” things we did.

THE PRESENT

Why did you choose to work in LSGH?I was assigned to work here by my religious superiors.Did you find your Lasallian education to be useful outside school? How was it useful?

Yes. It provided me with the foundation I needed to pursue my studies in college. How would you best describe an LSGH student, what sets them apart from the rest?

1. He is able to get along and is at ease with different groups of people. When there is an inter-La Salle activity, an LSGH student can mix easily with students from other La Salle schools. He is also at ease with people who come from a lower income group, like when they go out for reachout activities.

2. He tends to test a teacher to find out how far he/she can go with this particular teacher (ex. behavior in class.)

3. He is confident.4. He tries to live-out the Lasallian core values of

Faith, Service and Communion.

How is the school different now com-pared to your time? Hard to say. I’ve been away from LSGH for so long. No doubt, there’s a larger student popula-tion and more teachers. I am still re-familiarizing myself with the present situation of the school. But the emphasis and the striving to provide a Christian and quality education is always there.

How are the students different now compared to your time?

Our high school years were a different time with different conditions compared to the present. So it’s really difficult to compare. I would say that it is always a challenge for a teacher to teach LSGH students. And if that teacher leaves La Salle, that teacher can teach anywhere.

If you could add and/or change 1 or 2 things in LSGH now, what would it be?

Be more academically competitive.Strengthen the critical consciousness of the students about developments in the country, especially the situation of the poor.

On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 as the highest, would you recommend other alumni to work here in LSGH? Explain.

10... To share their knowledge, talents and gifted-ness with the young Lasallian students who have been entrusted to our care.

Let us all continue to work together to provide a Christian and quality education for our students by giving our best in our teaching ministry so that we will be able to touch hearts and transform lives.

THE PAST

Why did your family choose LSGH for your High School? My father was a die-hard Lasallite from DLSU. He wanted to make sure that I, too, will one day choose La Salle. He always believed that La Salle will provide the best formation and education.

As a student, who were the people from school who were memorable to you? Why were they memorable?

Teachers like Mrs. Esther Dollete, Mrs. Myrna Samson, Mrs. Marie Reyes, Mrs. Isabel Quimpo, Mrs. Beth Beaño, and Ms. Josefina Biscocho were memorable because they took time to listen to my problems and I felt their genuine care for me and my classmates. Likewise, secretaries like Ms. Liberty Austria and Ms. Susan Delos Santos were also very caring and kind. There were those who challenged me as well to do better and I am also grateful to them: Mrs. Annie Sorbito, Ms. Alma Kagaoan, Dr. Paul Gureng, Mrs. Amy Galang, Mrs. Tina Chavez, and Mr. Herman Rochester.

Who was your favorite teacher/home-room adviser and why?

My favorite teacher was Mrs. Tina Chavez. She made me realize my potentials and challenged me to put more effort in my studies. We re-mained friends since then.

What would you consider your best/most memorable year level and why? Third and fourth years because of my involve-ment with various student activities. These allowed me to explore, discover and develop other gifts I had. These were also the years when many of my teachers were really passionate about the subjects they taught and demanded the best from us.

Share 1 or 2 unforgettable experi-ence/s, special activities or events as an LSGH student that you can recall.

The Search-In retreat was perhaps one of the most influential events that happened during my high school years. It made me re-discover God in my life.

Did you ever get involved in a misde-meanor? Yes, but we were never caught. Back then, some of the mezzanine rooms in the St. Benilde Gym were used for student organizations. They became our secret smoking areas.

On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 as the highest, how happy were you then as an LSGH student? Explain. 10! I really felt that LSGH was my second home, my second family. A lot of fun things were hap-pening in and outside the classroom.

THE PRESENT

Why did you choose to work in LSGH?

Brothers are obedient.... I was assigned here.Did you find your Lasallian education to be useful outside school? How was it useful?

Yes, particularly in relating with people and having that heart for the less fortunate. How would you best describe an LSGH student, what sets them apart from the rest?

I think the 5 Cs are the best description of an LSGH student: Competent, Confident, Commit-ted, Concerned and Christian.

How is the school different now com-pared to your time? We have better facilities now.

How are the students different now compared to your time?

Not so much different. I think any young man who enters our halls eventually imbibes that peculiar LSGH culture.

If you could add and/or change 1 or 2 things in LSGH now, what would it be?

Campus layout so that we can maximize the space and have more open areas. On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 as the highest, would you recommend other alumni to work here in LSGH? Explain.

10! It’s a way of helping our Alma Mater. We need good men to be good models for our boys.

I love LSGH. It gave me so much and working here is a way for me to help. Being an alumnus has an advantage when dealing with students. We know the culture, we know what the boys go through. In many ways, this helps us empathize with all our students. This allows us to accompany them better and hopefully guide them towards a more holistic growth and maturity. It’s important that people in the school, especially our students, feel and know that there are people they can reach out to for help. Helping others goes a long way and our students will eventually learn the value of helping especially the last, the lost and the least in society. Keep the Animo culture of helping alive!

THE PAST

Why did your family choose LSGH for your Grade School and High School? Because it’s the same school as my brother. As a student, who were the people from school who were memorable to you? Why were they memorable?

Mr. Ramelle Javier, my AP when I was in Grade 5, who accompanied me in a challenging situation back then; my HS adviser for 2 years, Mr. Cheto, who was both a brother and teacher to us; my SACB advisers Ms. Agnes Taguines and Ms. Alma Kagaoan, who taught me a lot about leadership in my early days as a student leader.

Who was your favorite teacher/home-room adviser?

Mr. Cheto! What would you consider your best/most memorable grade/year level and why? I think the graduating year is my most mem-

orable year because it made me look back at my 13-year journey in LSGH. It’s as if during that year, I was able to be most grateful for all that has been --- both the experiences and relation-ships built.

THE PAST

Why did your family choose LSGH for your Grade School and High School? My mother works at LSGH and since that would mean we don’t have to pay tuition fee, she enrolled us in the same school.

As a student, who were the people from school who were memorable to you? Why were they memorable?

Many were memorable, but the most would be those whom we got to interact with outside the classroom. My LSGH experience would not be complete without the janitors, the guards, the canteen personnel, etc.

Who was your favorite teacher/home-room adviser/guidance counselor and why?

I remember having the best time when my then Grade 2 guidance counselor, Miss Cecile, would let me hangout in her office.

What would you consider your best/most memorable grade/year level and why? Grade 5 to me was most memorable. Not only did I perform best academically in this level, but I also remember having a blast with my friends every time we play after class.

Share 1 unforgettable experience, special activity or event as an LSGH student that you can recall.

My Kundirana experience, though short-lived, has stayed with me up to now.

Did you ever get involved in a misde-meanor? Tell us what it was about!

No.On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 as the highest, how happy were you then as an LSGH student? Explain.

10. It wasn’t the perfect school (it still isn’t), but I wouldn’t trade my LSGH education for anything.

THE PRESENT

Why did you choose to work in LSGH?

I wanted to teach basic education, I want to guide the prime movers of tomorrow’s society, while being able to give back to LSGH.

Did you find your Lasallian education to be useful outside school? How was it useful?

I did. What may be surprising though is that it was the “little things” that were useful to me outside LSGH. The penmanship, the Art lessons, reachouts... these are the things that stayed with me.

How would you best describe an LSGH student, what sets them apart from the rest?

The LSGH student may not be the brightest, but he definitely has the biggest heart. His kindness drives him to do the things that he does.

How is the school different now com-pared to your time? For one, I don’t remember the parents having so (too) much influence over school policies during my time.

How are the students different now compared to your time?

I don’t think they are (different), which is neither good nor bad.

If you could add and/or change 1 or 2 things in LSGH now, what would it be?

I think it’s about time that the Grade School, High School, and even the Adult Night High School be under 1 principal.

On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 as the highest, would you recommend other alumni to work here in LSGH? Explain.

10. Not only is it a chance for us to “give back,” but we also are able to provide a different (I’d like to believe, positive) perspective as alum-ni-employees.

THE PAST

Why did your family choose LSGH for your Grade School and High School? I don’t really know, I was just brought by my dad here for Kinder exam (maybe my Dad just really looked up to Lasallites since he was young.) Then my eldest brother and other kuya trans-ferred here with me (they were Gr. 3 and 1st yr. HS then, followed by my younger brothers.)

As a student, who were the people from school who were memorable to you? Why were they memorable?

I’m not a President Duterte fan but, “Punyeta!,”“You go to hell! and“You get a 65!” were Mr. Danilo Antonil’s common expressions! He was my 2nd and 3rd year English teacher, although he failed me twice and I took summer classes twice (even when he promised that those who failed last year will never fail again.) He was a good drinking buddy, a real man of his words and as I knew him more (when I was an employee) he was a real Christian gentleman who had a kind heart.

Who was your favorite teacher/home-room adviser and why?

My PE teachers, Coach Tony, Coach Ed, basically because it was more of play time. What would you consider your best/most memorable grade/year level and why? Both graduating years, namely grade 7 and second to fourth years. These were the years I was able to build camaraderie with my fellow batchmates/Lasallians.

Share 1 or 2 unforgettable experi-ence/s, special activities or events as an LSGH student that you can recall.

Greenhills Shopping Center daysDid you ever get involved in a misde-meanor? Tell us what it was about!

Yes. A lot! One thing is for sure, it isn’t drugs nor stealing! But as a growing kid, I would say thank you for all the experiences that I/we have been through. Truly, if it wasn’t for me being a happy kid and

getting caught in a lot of trouble due to miscon-duct and other related cases listed on that old VR in long bond paper, I wouldn’t be the person I am now. If only I can prove that all my grades (with red marks and passing 75s) were never the thing that brought me here, it was all the experi-ences that made me realize and value life. The problem was, when I was first applying as an employee here, my ex-teachers never wanted me, I’d hear a lot of comments like “G***yan-nung bata, bakit mo tatanggapin dito?” So when I was accepted to teach Gr. 2 PE, I had to prove to them that people change. That looooong story/experience made me prove that I’ve grown up.

On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 as the highest, how happy were you then as an LSGH student? Explain.

10. As I’ve said, experience is the best lesson in life. I even told Br. Vic when he interviewed me, “I was a happy boy when I was a student here, I’ve gone through thick and thin and I was one who’d always extended my study time/schooling here at LSGH not only after class hours (remedial or tutoring) but also even during summer (Sum-mer classes). Those extended school hours for me helped me bond more with my friends.”

THE PRESENT

Why did you choose to work in LSGH?

To give back what La Salle has given me.Did you find your Lasallian education to be useful outside school? How was it useful?

Useful sa pambobola hehehe. Connections and trust. How would you best describe an LSGH student, what sets them apart from the rest?

Rock and roll. Barok. Even when I was young, I had some friends from the other school along Katipunan and my Lasallian friends and I would always notice that they’re more reserved and acts with finesse. And as I grew older, I got mar-

ried to an Atenean and her two other brothers were solid Ateneans as well (who says green and blue cannot fuse?) Still, up to present time, the difference is, mas barako ang berde.

How is the school different now com-pared to your time? Facilities and technology. Well, time keeps on walking. How are the students different now compared to your time?

Maybe a little stuck with their tablets and very little of the pupils are found playing with soiled uniforms during mid-day.

If you could add and/or change 1 or 2 things in LSGH now, what would it be?

Maybe have a bigger lot (property) size.On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 as the highest, would you recommend other alumni to work here in LSGH? Explain.

10.Realizing what you can share to your fellow Lasallians and help teach them how to value one another through respect and discipline would always be a good start. Normally, gradu-ates I know don’t go here for monetary reasons (compensation as an educator is low) but, simply valuing by giving back what La Salle has given us is the best answer.

Working in LSGH is always like home... literally home.

Difference from being a student... I’d say, I can give VRs now (kidding!) I would see myself in the playful, cheerful and naughty boys across all levels, when I catch them going against the Handbook. But the truth is I talk to them man-to-man first, as if I’m their kuya or dad, but the second time I catch them, we should follow the Handbook rules already. For the past 15 years serving the community, I’ve only issued 2 Sad Slips and for the VR, it was reversed pa.

THE PAST

As a student, who were the people from school who were memorable to you? Why were they memorable? Mr. Antonil... for his notorious 65 grade during class recitation. He kept students on their toes which was a way for him to teach us to always be ready.Of course my school buddies Philip, Harold, and Sultan/Prince Zhulfi, who we always joked about feeding bacon to... he did not take it personally. He was a good sport.

Who was your favorite teacher/home-room adviser and why?

Mrs. Chona Barraquias... kind and tough. Made me strong. What would you consider your best/most memorable grade/year level and why?

2nd year high... lots of soirees and the school sanctioned interaction. Also the year when I started winning medals for Taekwondo.

Share 1 unforgettable experience, special activity or event as an LSGH student that you can recall. Kabihasnan has always been fun.

Did you ever get involved in a misde-meanor?

Some sad slips and a VR if I’m not mistaken... can’t remember what for... some technical thing... but I was innocent. I swear!

On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 as the highest, how happy were you then as an LSGH student? Explain.

Maybe a 9 or 8.5. I was happy but could’ve been happier.

THE PRESENT

Why did you choose to work in LSGH?

I wanted to see how it was like at the other side. Hehehe.Did you find your Lasallian education to be useful outside school? How was it useful?

Yes, the values part. Though I’m far from perfect, there are some things I’m proud of doing be-cause my values were held intact.

How would you best describe an LSGH student, what sets them apart from the rest?

Confident... but humble. How is the school different now com-pared to your time? More structures. How are the students different now compared to your time?

We played a lot of street / team games during our free time. We didn’t care much about tech-nology.

If you could add and/or change 1 or 2 things in LSGH now, what would it be?

More space for everyone to play. Maybe a play-ground stadium with cannons shooting rubber balls around. Kids need to play, run, trip, fall, and pick themselves back up laughing.

Would you recommend other alumni to work here in LSGH?

We are Lasallians. We do what we want to do and have the tendency to create something wonderful wherever we go. If they work here then great!

Working here is great and I always imagine the students as my younger brothers or the past “me.” And to all the students, teachers are apparently humans too, hahaha! They also eat, sleep and go to the mall... yes, they go to the mall too! Hahaha.

THE PAST

Why did your family choose LSGH for your High School? I was enrolled at De La Salle College - Manila (not yet a university then). We were the first batch of students transferred to LSGH for high school, when the Brothers decided to phase-out the high school program at Taft. I was given a choice to transfer to UP Manila, which was closer to home, but I preferred to continue in a La Salle school.

As a student, who were the people from school who were memorable to you? Why were they memorable?

Former Br. Sam Bueser (he taught us History or Social Studies) and was our sports moderator; the late Br. Rafe Donato taught us English and Literature; Br. Hugh Damian, our principal -- they were all very inspiring because of their sincere concern for our/my best interest. They were excellent teachers. Many lay teachers were equally inspiring, too -- Mr. Raymundo (Physics), Mr. Isberto and Mrs. Masilungan (Pilipino), Mrs. Javier-Pamintuan (Math and who died early)... all unforgettable for their sincere concern for students and how well they taught us.

Who was your favorite teacher/home-room adviser and why?

There were many favorites... but the former Br. Sam Bueser would rank among the top. But Mrs. Feny Alburo would be my favorite, my first teacher at DLSC. She taught Prep C. And she promoted me to Grade 1-A. She was also my Cub Scout Den Mother.

What would you consider your best/most memorable year level and why? High School’s 3rd and 4th year were the most important and most memorable.. . it was filled with academic and extra-curricular activities that helped form me or make me who I am today. I

was active in PMT and became Corps Command-er for 2 years... taught me leadership. Played NCAA junior varsity and represented our school in various tournaments... it taught me hard work, teamwork and sacrifice, was elected Class Presi-dent of the honors class (401), attended my first party with girls, it was called soirees then.

Share 1 or 2 unforgettable experi-ence/s, special activities or events as an LSGH student that you can recall.

Perhaps one of the most memorable was “Class Nights,” when students were allowed to sleep on campus overnight, supervised and accompanied by the Homeroom Adviser.Another was “Days with the Lord” (a 2-day on-campus retreat) moderated by Br. Rafael Do-nato. It was a moving and emotional experience for most of us. An excellent way of discovering love of parents, siblings, friends and God’s love.

Did you ever get involved in a misde-meanor?

No. As Corp Commander and Class President, I had to make sure I followed all the rules. My parents provided us with excellent guidance through those years. My mother was a teacher too... she taught us to respect teachers and school officials. We understood their sacrifices and hardwork for our benefit.

On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 as the highest, how happy were you then as an LSGH student? Explain.

It would have to be a 10. I did not start wanting to go to LSGH. I was very sad to leave DLSC. But by the time I graduated, I had learned to love LSGH.

THE PRESENT

Why did you choose to work in LSGH?

I was invited by Br. Vic Franco to join the BOT and who can say no to him? I wanted to give back in a significant way and felt that by sharing my knowledge and experience in business and finance would be an excellent way of doing so.I want to help make LSGH the school of choice

for parents and students entering grade school and high school.

Did you find your Lasallian education to be useful outside school? How was it useful?

Most definitely. Lasallian education provides every student knowledge and skills. Its’ strong focus on Catholic values and teachings gave me excellent grounding to live a life that matters. Concern for others, not just myself and my family, were values I learned from La Salle that helped me succeed in life.

How would you best describe an LSGH student, what sets them apart from the rest?

Smart with a heart (is my hope.)How is the school different now com-pared to your time? More students, teachers and staff... more ad-vanced (tablets vs notebooks)... better facilities (computer labs, airconditioned classrooms, better canteen)... generally more equipped to provide better education.

How are the students different now compared to your time?

Almost the same... energetic, noisy, am sure just as mischievous... but I think smarter due to exposure to more digital information and even social media.

If you could add and/or change 1 or 2 things in LSGH now, what would it be?

I would emphasize Quality of Education more and make sure that every student/graduate will be accepted in all of the top 3 universities of the Philippines (DLSU, UP and ADMU), as well as any leading college or university overseas.

On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 as the highest, would you recommend other alumni to work here in LSGH?

Of course, provided that the alumni only has the best interest of LSGH, I will definitely recommend working or volunteering in LSGH (and I have.)

Why did your family choose LSGH for your High School? As a student, who were the people from school who were memorable to you? Why were they memorable?

Mga teachers konung high school student pa ako, SY 2002-2006.Who was your favorite teacher/homeroom advis-er and why?

What would you consider your best/most memo-rable year level and why? THE PAST

Why did your family choose LSGH for your Grade School and High School? My dad was a Lasallian and he wanted me to imbibe Lasallian values in my personal develop-ment. LSGH was known then as the No.1 school for boys in Metro Manila.

As a student, who were the people from school who were memorable to you? Why were they memorable?

The Brothers and my teachers -- they were all good role models.

Who was your favorite teacher/home-room adviser/guidance counselor and why?

Br. Gus, Br. Jun, Br. Roly, Ms. Fagela, Ms. Balana and Dr. Lita Q -- they were all excellent role models; kind and competent. They were genuine teachers and friends to us.

What would you consider your best/most memorable grade/year level and why? Grade 7 and fourth year high school -- these were the years when we were encouraged to take on a leadership role in school.

Share 1 unforgettable experience as

an LSGH student that you can recall.

My most unforgettable experience was my Cirkulo retreat under Br. Gus -- it helped make me a better person.

On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 as the highest, how happy were you then as an LSGH student? Explain.

10 -- LSGH helped me achieve my fullest poten-tial, am a better person because of my LSGH years!!

THE PRESENT

Why did you choose to work in LSGH?

It is time to give back and acknowledge the generosity of the La Salle Brothers who gave up their lives in service of the young.

Did you find your Lasallian education to be useful outside school? How was it useful?

Yes. I would not be who I am today without my Lasallian education. How would you best describe an LSGH student, what sets them apart from the rest?

During our time, they were perceived as com-petent yet kind and humble, a true Christian

gentleman. But we also had our fair share of troubled graduates (ie. into drugs, etc.) Today, it is hard to differentiate an LSGH student from other graduates from other schools.

How is the school different now com-pared to your time? The quality of LSGH graduates has deteriorated over time. LSGH graduates are no longer regard-ed as leaders in their fields of endeavor capable of personal sacrifice for God and country.

How are the students different now compared to your time?

The students seem more self-absorbed, have short attention spans, have a sense of entitle-ment, seeks instant gratification and are granted excessive freedoms without the accompanying sense of accountability.

If you could add and/or change 1 or 2 things in LSGH now, what would it be?

1. The quality of instruction at LSGH2. How religion and values formation is taught to

the students

On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 as the highest, would you recommend other alumni to work here in LSGH? Explain.

Yes, it is time to give back and education is the best profession to embrace if you wish to con-tribute to genuine social transformation.

I am having the time of my life! This is fun, it is not work. The fulfillment I receive when working with the Brothers and the dedicated educators I have encountered in the course of my work is priceless. I would not exchange it for the material rewards of the corporate world.

THE PAST

Why did your family choose LSGH for your Grade School and High School? My mother was faculty member and that made us decide to study in this institution. As a student, who were the people from school who were memorable to you? Why were they memorable?

Our teachers who gave us the inspiration to do activities that eventually form the interests that became the

building blocks of our career.:)Who was your favorite teacher/home-room adviser and why?

One of my most memorable adviser was Mrs. Cindy Salanguit. Not only does she live near our place but she was a mother to us when we were in 1st year. Another is Mrs. Beth Jimenez who loved our section despite of our mischievousness when we were in 3rd year. No one could ever forget Mr. Jun Remiter and Mrs. Tilit Llanita for their passion in AP.Did you ever get involved in a misdemeanor? Yes, when, we the whole class was absent to make a Noli Me Tangere play. The teacher knew of our plans, hehehe-- a sign of revolt to a substitute teacher. On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 as the highest, how hap-py were you then as an LSGH student? Explain.

8. It was fun but I knew that college would make my Lasallian life fonder!!!

THE PRESENT

Why did you choose to work in LSGH?

We applied as a group and saw a glimpse of teaching life when we had our practicumDid you find your Lasallian education to be use-ful outside school? How was it useful?

Yes. I did because I became more confident of myself and the ability to relate with people across all walks of life. I think I inherited this trait from LSGH.

THE PAST

Why did your family choose LSGH for your Grade School and High School? My father was a La Salle alumnus. As a student, who were the people from school who were memorable to you? Why were they memorable?

All the Brothers and the teaching, PE and coach-ing staff. They really mentored us as men first and athletes second.

Who was your favorite teacher/coach and why?

Bro. Francis Cody. He taught our class for a short time but had a profound impact on us. He always said, “We must have the courage to stand for our convictions.” That still is with me to this day.Bro. Roly Dizon. He was always there for us. We rarely saw him, but he would appear when we needed him. His presence was such a comfort.Bro. Bobby Casingal. This man saw something in me and did his best to keep me straight. I re-mained his student still as I call him for guidance from time to time.Coach Roy Samson. The only coach who gave me a chance. He is responsible for my love of volleyball, and the one started me on my career in the sport.Coach Butch Bautista. His passion for the fun-damentals of volleyball made me a good player. His mentoring kept me persevering to thrive in the sport, worthy of a scholarship to UST and a UAAP title.

What would you consider your best/most memorable grade/year level and why? Senior year. This was when all the lessons came together and I realized that I am ready for the world. I was not scared to take the next step in life. I truly felt mentally equipped to leave the halls of LSGH.

Share 1 or 2 unforgettable experi-ence/s, special activities or events as an LSGH student that you can recall.

Winning numerous championships in volleyball for the school, seeing Coach Bautista cry with joy when I gave him my jersey from a commercial team I played for.

Did you ever get involved in a misde-meanor? Tell us what it was about!

Never got caught. Hehe.On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 as the highest, how happy were you then as an LSGH student? Explain.

10. It was the best years of my life!

THE PRESENT

Why did you choose to work in LSGH?

First, Br. Bobby asked me to help him and of course I obliged. Second, I will always help my Alma Mater.

Did you find your Lasallian education to be useful outside school? How was it useful?

It made life not scary. La Salle taught me that a solution is always there, you only need to find

it. It also taught me the importance of a batch network. This was helpful on so many levels. How would you best describe an LSGH student, what sets them apart from the rest?

Few networks can match a La Salle one. I believe graduates of LSGH have a great outlook and can navigate life easily.

How is the school different now com-pared to your time?

All the gadgets really take away from the essence of being a student. There are just too many distractions nowadays compared to my time. When I got home back then, I did my homework and then played outside. Now, any-time they are idle, a gadget dominates their time and not classic conversation.

How are the students different now compared to your time?

They have so many reasons/excuses not to do things. The students today are the “why” genera-tion, while back then it was the “why not” time.

If you could add and/or change 1 or 2 things in LSGH now, what would it be?

I would teach the old way and allocate time for gadgets, as they are an integral part of life. Have the students write their essays and not type them. This will also remove their dependence on spell check and actually make them learn how to spell.

On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 as the highest, would you recommend other alumni to work here in LSGH? Explain.

10! When the Alma Mater needs you, you answer the call.

THE PAST

Why did your family choose LSGH for your Grade School and High School? They believed LSGH is one of the best schools in the country. In addition, I had relatives who were teachers during the ‘70s to ‘90s.

As a student, who were the people from school who were memorable to you? Why were they memorable?

It would probably be my titas, Ms. Foy and Ms. Bel Gan. They were good disciplinarians and good mentors in all aspect of life, part of who I am came from them. Not to forget some of my teachers in the past who I am working with now like Ms. Wheng, Ms. Julie, Ms. Agnes, Ms. Suzette, Mr. Romy, Mr. Patrick, Mr. Gen, Mr. Carbo, Mr. Ric, Brolex and many more in the high school department.

Who was your favorite teacher/home-room adviser and why?

Ms. Wheng and Ms. Agnes in the Grade School because of their kindness and unique tech-niques in teaching. In High School, Doc Evan, Ms. Dang, Mr. Nicdao, Ms. Tess, Ms. Cheryl and Ms. Mary-Ar. Doc Evan made me like History. Mr. Nicdao gave me the chance to be a teacher for a day in cooking. Ms. Cheryl, Ms. Tess and Ms. Dang were great English teachers (my favorite subject) and no dull moments in class. While Ms. Daza that time was a great adviser during my first year. Not to forget, the fun classes of Mr. Remiter in Economics.

What would you consider your best/most memorable grade/year level and why? Probably my last year in LSGH. It was the busiest and most memorable because of SACB with Ms. Alma. We were busy organizing the Kabihasnan Fair and the Graduation Ball which led to meeting a lot of people. It was a good training that I used in college and even at present time.

In addition, my classmates that time were my “kabarkada” until today.

Share 1 or 2 unforgettable experi-ence/s, special activities or events as an LSGH student that you can recall.

1. Kabihasnan Fair during my 4th year2. Intramurals during my 3rd year and 4th yearDid you ever get involved in a misde-meanor?

I remember during Grade 6, we just go back to our rooms on our own then we had RST (Reading and Studying Time). But that time, my class was notorious! During RST, we had what you call “10 seconds.” It was simple, just choose a classmate you like to fight with for 10 seconds. Only one rule that time, no hitting in the face so there will be no evidence. That happened everyday and for sure someone got hurt. It was fun too because you get to hit the person you “hate” in class.

On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 as the highest, how happy were you then as an LSGH student? Explain.

10. The whole program was excellent both in academics and extra-curricular activities. In addi-tion, I met my closest friends in this institution.

THE PRESENT

Why did you choose to work in LSGH?

I still think it is the one of the best schools in the country and it feels like home until today.Did you find your Lasallian education to be useful outside school? How was it useful?

Yes. La Salle trained me to be street-smart, a well-rounded person and very outgoing which are very essential in the real world.

How would you best describe an LSGH student, what sets them apart from the rest?

LSGH produces loyal, well-rounded individuals, God-fearing Christian gentleman. How is the school different now com-pared to your time? It is more high-tech and advanced. Students nowadays do not play anymore like we used to. I remember going home with a dirty uniform because we played soccer using a plastic bottle or playing “jolens’ in the Roadway. We were very creative in playing games just to have fun. I do not see this anymore. Most of the students now just sit and play with the tablet. Isn’t that too boring?

How are the students different now compared to your time?

Students now are way too “sosyal” compared to our time. Nobody commutes anymore and they are all English speakers or uses Tag-Lish. You will only see a few who uses our beloved language now. Don’t get me wrong, but we were also good in using Taglish then.

If you could add and/or change 1 or 2 things in LSGH now, what would it be?

LSGH is a school for boys and it is not a SPED school. Let us keep it that way :)On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 as the highest, would you recommend other alumni to work here in LSGH? Explain.

10. I always recommend LSGH not just to my fellow alumni but also to my other friends. I do believe being part of the La Salle system is a privilege and an advantage.

At first, I only planned to stay for 2-3 years but I enjoyed it that is why I am still here. Until now, I still feel like a student even if I am already a teacher because learning never stops. I still learn from my co-teachers and mentors up to this day. Being part of the LSGH community for a total of 20 years has been a fruitful journey which I think will not stop anytime soon. Thank you LSGH family, Animo La Salle!

I love my job at LSGH. I look at the students and envy them, what I would give to be in their shoes right now -- that feeling that the world is yours! I would say to the LSGH community to continue forward, but do not neglect the lessons of yesterday.

THE PAST

Why did your family choose LSGH for your Grade School and High School? We live inside Greenhills East Subdivision. As a student, who were the people from school who were memorable to you? Why were they memorable?

A couple of my teachers and classmates who became more than just teachers and classmates to me but a second family.

Who was your favorite teacher/home-room adviser/guidance counselor and why?

Ms. Rolia Nery, Ms. Evangeline Tamaca, Ms. Alma Kagaoan, Mr. Herman Rochester, Ms. Grace Mantes. They became more than teachers to the students. They influenced how we developed our character to not only become more than just outstanding students but to be outstanding Filipino, Catholic citizens.

What would you consider your best/most memorable grade/year level and why? Grade 7 and 4th year HS. The bonding between classmates were at its’ peak.Share 1 or 2 unforgettable experi-ence/s, special activities or events as an LSGH student that you can recall.

I was involved in sports then that is why one special activity I remember is the Inter-La Salle Olympics where we got to bond with other Lasallians nationwide. Another would be my last year in La Salle. Being in the honors class and being with them for 4 consecutive years, we became very good friends. So knowing that we will be separating soon was difficult for us.

Did you ever get involved in a misde-meanor? Never. On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 as the highest, how happy were you then as an LSGH student? Explain. 10. It is because the school served its purpose as a secondary home to me. I made my friends there and I learned my values there. I was just not able to be that active in the extra-curricular activities of the school since I had a life outside of it as a member of the Philippine Badminton Team.

THE PRESENT

Why did you choose to work in LSGH?

Mr. Herman Rochester gave me a call because my name was referred by one of the HMOs at that time. And so I did not really actively apply, I had my private practice then. But with that opportunity, I had to really make an important decision since it can affect my private practice. True enough from part-time doctor, i was asked to be full-time already, thus giving up my private practice. Why I eventually decided to practice at LSGH was because I knew I would be working with an institution I can consider a family.

Did you find your Lasallian education to be useful outside school? How was it useful?

Yes it was useful. The quality of education was significantly noticed. It made my studies in college a lot easier. The values I learned from LSGH also helped me cope with my life after High School.

How would you best describe an LSGH student, what sets them apart from the rest?

I think I would say none. This is because as far as the people I know who studied from other schools, I can see that they also had good educational background from their respective

schools and are well-rounded individuals. How is the school different now com-pared to your time?

I think the school was more focused before on how to produce academically outstanding individuals, individuals who are also capable of loving and caring.

How are the students different now compared to your time?

There were more students before who were respectful and God-fearing.

If you could add and/or change 1 or 2 things in LSGH now, what would it be?

1. Make the schedule of the students more simple. It will make them absorb better what they should learn academically. Their schedule now seems to be too complicated, making their time in focusing on their subjects com-promised. What I see is that it becomes more important for most teachers to be able teach what they have to teach at a prescribed period more than the students learning.

2. Give more time in teaching the students Chris-tian values in its simple and more concrete way that the students can easily grasp and apply.

On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 as the highest, would you recommend other alumni to work here in LSGH? Explain.

8. I encourage to let the alumni apply because being family to LSGH, I would want to believe that they will make sure that their goal is to make their former school the best school. Hope-fully, they will not only think of what they can gain from the school but also think of what they can give to the school. I am not discriminating or saying that employees from other schools are not capable of serving the school well. It might just be easier to find from a pool of LSGH graduates. But more than anything, skill and competence must still be on top of the criteria. It should not be compromised.

My work experience in La Salle has been quite a smooth one. Overall, the school has been generous and supportive to our department. I am proud to be working in LSGH. As a student, I was more idealistic, as a professional I am more realistic. I want to thank the LSGH community for taking care of their family. I just wish they could see more in terms of what truly has to be done and achieved to make the community a true family.

THE PAST

Why did your family choose LSGH for your Grade School and High School? I really do not know. Perhaps, it is the accessibili-ty of the school from our home.As a student, who were the people from school who were memorable to you? Why were they memorable?

Ms. Alma Kagaoan - She was the moderator of the SACB and the Student Activities Coordinator when I was in HS. She guided me in the process and gave me a wider perspective on how I can be able to serve my batchmates. She’s strict and loves to challenge our ideas, thus, she helped me build a strong character.Coach Alex Depante Jr. - He was my volleyball coach in HS. Taught me that the way I act inside the court is the same way I live my life. Instead of focusing on the negative side of things, he taught me to rise above it.

Who was your favorite teacher/home-room adviser/guidance counselor and why?

Ms. Leony Navea - Grade 7 Homeroom AdviserI can say that Grade 7 was a fun and challenging year. I felt that I can do anything because I was about to transition to HS. Mrs. Navea’s tough love and guidance made us make right choices. Although, I still committed a few mistakes but she did not stop reminding me that I can be better.Ms. Fay Irasga - 1st Year Homeroom Adviser“Wag mang-aapi ng kapwa” was her identifier. She’s sweet and charming but she can really be tough once you cross the line. She taught me to be simple and be moral. Her integrity in promot-ing her belief is really inspiring.

Ms. Alfie Plasigue - Guidance Counselor from Grade 4 to 4th yearHow can I not include her in the list? Aside from following us from Grade 4 to High School, her loyalty, trust, and encouragement was really a benefit we enjoyed having. Having someone who really knows you and accompanied you until the end of our LSGH life is something that I can never forget. If I am not mistaken, we are the only batch who had a single counselor the longest.

What would you consider your best/most memorable grade/year level and why? 4th year was the most memorable. It was the year that I ventured into lot of activities. My mindset was to do all the things I wanted to do before leaving the school. I was SACB President, part of the NCAA volleyball team, Search-In, and something I never thought I’d be doing -- the Cue Drama Club. All of these while having that bitter-sweet feeling of leaving the school that became my second home.

Share 1 unforgettable experience, special activity or event as an LSGH student that you can recall.

We were the first batch to have our Junior Prom at the St. Benilde Gym. I was the 3rd year repre-sentative of the SACB at that time. I remembered feeling anxious because I was the one in-charge of the big event and there were high expecta-tions from my batchmates. Eventually, every-thing went well and I was amazed on how the school, particularly, the Buildings and Grounds Office, transformed the gym into heaven (as that was our theme.)

Did you ever get involved in a misde-meanor?

A Violation Report when I was in Grade 6 for

writing an obscene word in the blackboard. Also a VR also for cheating when I was in Grade 7.On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 as the highest, how happy were you then as an LSGH student? Explain.

10 - I felt complete when I graduated. Not only did the school prepare me for college through academics but also taught me life skills.

THE PRESENT

Why did you choose to work in LSGH?

I was assigned here as a requirement of the formation program of the De La Salle Brothers.Did you find your Lasallian education to be useful outside school? How was it useful?

Yes. More than the academics, the life skills that were integrated in the school. The school gave me a deeper meaning of service that made me choose to work in the development sector then eventually realized that God was calling me into a life of service through the Brothers.

How would you best describe an LSGH student, what sets them apart from the rest?

I’d love to think that an LSGH student is a person who is learned and morally upright, who would think of creative ways in order to deliver what is required of him.

How is the school different now com-pared to your time? Technology. ERAC. My teachers - most of them have retired already.

Continue to discover how God is inviting you to be the best version of yourself. He calls us everyday, we just really need to listen.

THE PAST

Why did your family choose LSGH for your Grade School and High School? So that I would have a great education with Christian values.

As a student, who were the people from school who were memorable to you? Why were they memorable?

My batchmates who I still share a relationship with to this day, and talk about old memories and seeing each other grow older. Mostly, these memories are of mischief, banter, and laughter.

Who was your favorite teacher/home-room adviser/guidance counselor and why?

Mr. Jay Ramos, stayed with us from 1st year to 4th year High School.

What would you consider your best/most memorable grade/year level and why? My 3rd year High School class, it was the liveli-est, funniest and had mixed personalities.Share 1 or 2 unforgettable experi-ence/s, special activities or events as an LSGH student that you can recall.

I was a “go see” judge for a fashion show event try out. Imagine being in an all-boys school and appreciating the pretty girls/models from other schools, putting their best foot forward.

Did you ever get involved in a misde-meanor?

Often. Mostly frequent minor things that I believe most adolescent boys go through, like copying, fighting, teasing, pranking, smoking in the CR, mocking the teacher etc.

On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 as the highest, how happy were you then as an LSGH student? Explain.

8. I was making friends as well as getting an education; working and playing.

THE PRESENT

Why did you choose to work in LSGH? I got in touch with old friends and was offered a position where I can use my expertise and the same time help the Lasallian mission and network. The people I work with are really great.

Did you find your Lasallian education to be useful outside school? How was it useful? Lasallian education is the best because it teach-es balance between the academic and non-ac-ademic education. I find the Lasallian culture to be a great advantage, especially learning how to be a good sport and dealing with different personalities.

How would you best describe an LSGH student, what sets them apart from the rest?

Pakikisama, dealing with different personalities and breeding and trying to get along with people from all walks of life. Down-to-earth. Funny.

How is the school different now com-pared to your time? It’s more developed now. The facilities are top class. Most of the main buildings are well-main-tained and with additional structures.

How are the students different now compared to your time? The students now seem more sophisticated in learning, especially in technology.

If you could add and/or change 1 or 2 things in LSGH now, what would it be? Entice students to join more physical activities. On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 as the highest, would you recommend other alumni to work here in LSGH? Explain. 8. It’s home. Bring your talents and expertise where it all began.

Working with DLSP within the LSGH campus has a sense of giving back since this is where I learned then and serve now. The difference of being a student from being a professional now is maturity of course, but there are still Lasallian characteristics that shows in action, hopefully the positive ones. Keep at it, fellow Lasallians!

THE PAST

Why did your family choose LSGH for your Grade School and High School?

LSGH was the best/preferred school at the time in terms of education system and location.

As a student, who were the people from school who were memorable to you? Why were they memorable?

My coaches, Mr. Dimasuay, Gerry Vaflor and Ceasar Brillantes were the ones who molded me along with other football teammates to strive to reach our goal, so to speak. Our classmates also played an important role in molding my social skills, determining my place in society and learning how to understand people in different aspects of living.

Who was your favorite teacher/homeroom adviser/guidance counselor and why?

The general faculty population had their own respec-tive significances.

Mrs. Grace Mantes back then was a favorite as guid-ance counselor. She gave us an open eye to what is happening as well as what may still come to us in the future. In high school, we had many teachers who held their ground in showing us how to achieve. Although many have also brought us down emotionally, yet making us realize the need to feel the lowest level of our persona in order to find our will to get back up.

Mr. Clement Bautista, E. D. Villanueva, Br. Collin Wee, Ms. Alma Kagaoan, just to mention a few, have done their very best in helping us understand the benefits of success as much as the consequences of failure.

What would you consider your best/most memorable grade/year level and why?

I would say that my Grade level 3 was the best. It was the time I learned how to play football. Although I was not yet allowed to be part of the team back then, it gave me something to work hard for. It took two years before I was given the chance to play for LSGH. I played football all the way beyond my college days. I still play now.

It was also the year of martial arts for me. I learned Taekwondo, Karate and Kung Fu. But because of my passion for football, I had to give up the others. Still, I was able to continue in at least one of the martial arts that I learned to a point of being an instructor.

Share 1 or 2 unforgettable experience/s, spe-

cial activities or events as an LSGH student that you can recall.

There were many. But I would say the most unforget-table experience was the time when MARTIAL LAW was lifted. Everything became crazy until 1986. It was history in the making. It was great to be part of it.

Still there was one small but exciting experience I would say was memorable. I got my first kiss from a girl during the LSGH fair. Haha!

Did you ever get involved in a misdemeanor?

If there were any, it didn’t happen in LSGH.

On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 as the highest, how happy were you then as an LSGH student? Explain.

7. I felt better with my activities outside of LSGH. Just to compare the school population with the outside world, the fight for supremacy towards peers was more concentrated in school. That is because of bullies and people with the lack of morals. I guess I’m just a righteous type of person.

THE PRESENT

Why did you choose to work in LSGH?

I didn’t. It was a side job from my Interior Design job at INEX Design. Inc. When it closed down, it fell into the time I was already teaching. I ended up teaching continuously instead.

Did you find your Lasallian education to be useful outside school? How was it useful?

In my opinion, the education I got during my time was the same as what other schools could give. I wouldn’t categorically say “Lasallian education” only. But the greatest education I had was thru experiences from the outside world. Being a good Christian Gentleman, however, would have to be credited to what was reinforced by LSGH.

How would you best describe an LSGH stu-dent, what sets them apart from the rest?

I would think the question should be, “How do we want

us to be set apart from the rest?” When one leaves school and enters the outside world, he or she will find that there is a bigger world with many diverse people and cultures. One needs to be understanding of these social surroundings. We are hoping that we, as Lasal-lians, would keep our mission-vision intact yet diversify based on principles.

So, if I were to describe an LSGH student, I would like to say he is adaptive and resourceful. But in reality, all must learn how to survive in this world.

How is the school different now compared to your time?

LSGH is very different from what I use to go to. I have to say, when I entered LSGH, the school was not complicating itself to what society asks of it. Even among schools nowadays, its a dog-eat-dog situation. Who becomes the best or the worst. Or even who is cheaper. Back then, economy was not breaking hearts. Society was simple to live in. No gadgetry and thriving technology. To make a comparison would just be undeserving for the former situation.

How are the students different now com-pared to your time?

As I said above, it is undeserving for the former. Although, just to put it into perspective, the students now are more tamed than our time or even before us. But there is one simple yet important factor I noticed that is quite disturbing,we were more of gentlemen back then than most of the students I have encoun-tered lately. And, I have encountered a lot as an instructor. Family values have gone down. In fact, there are more and more students who don’t value family time. Again, this is just undeserving for both.

If you could add and/or change 1 or 2 things in LSGH now, what would it be?

No need to change anything. But add? Please add more parking. Haha!!!

On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 as the highest, would you recommend other alumni to work here in LSGH? Explain.

On the basis of passion and handing down lessons learned – 10!

Andres Maria R. FajardoLSGH/Batch 1987

Working in LSGH in my field is fun and satisfying. I get to see my students grow up and develop their personality (hopefully from Taekwondo,) their physical and mental strengths and their drive to achieve. There was not much difference when comparing school work during my time and in transitioning to a professional. We all know where we’re headed. But I would guess nowadays students need to learn more in order to take on the outside world. Since “globalization” is the direction for most, it would take more than simple accounting and grammar skills to pull things off.I am very proud of the Lasallian community for doing their best in finding ways for students to learn the values of spiritual and mental achievement and the importance of striving to reach their goals. I would say that academically, we stand out.Never Shall We Fail!!! 33

Share 1 unforgettable experience, special activity or event as an LSGH student that you can recall.

Kabihasnan!Did you ever get involved in a misde-meanor? Getting SDRs from Mr. Medroso’s haircut inspec-tion. (Sometimes, he lets us cut/trim our own hair so we can get away scot-free haha!)

On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 as the highest, how happy were you then as an LSGH student? Explain.

10. Consistently, I was part of the class’s top 5 students in Grade School. In High School, story was the same, but with different awards (first, second and third honors.) I competed for La Salle on different events, art competitions, Taekwondo competitions, etc. Also got medals during my whole High School NCAA life (1st and 4th yr - Gold, 2nd yr - Bronze, 3rd yr - Silver) and made friends that are worth keeping forever.

THE PRESENT

Why did you choose to work in LSGH?

I had an opportunity to start a business in my Alma Mater so I took it. :) It’s like giving back to the institution that made me who I am today.

Did you find your Lasallian education to be useful outside school? How was it useful?

Of course. I try to continue being a Lasallian gen-tleman as much as I can. How would you best describe an LSGH student, what sets them apart from the rest?

The confidence you get from being a Lasallian sets you apart from the rest.

How is the school different now com-pared to your time?

The technology now makes everything easy (projectors before vs. LCD today, VHS/CD film viewing vs. micro sd/harddrive files, CCTVs everywhere, etc).

How are the students different now compared to your time?

Boys nowadays are more “conyo.” Fights don’t break out easily. They can also easily access requirements for school via the internet. Life seems easier these days.

On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 as the highest, would you recommend other alumni to work here in LSGH? Explain.

8. It is both fun and nostalgic to work here in LSGH.

THE PAST

Why did you choose to enroll in ALS? I chose to enroll in ALS because this is the only program that can help me finish my studies. I know that ALS has no age limit and to finish my studies is my dream.

As a student, who were the people from school who were memorable to you? Why were they memorable?

The people who were memorable to me are Ms. Weena Meily, Ms. Catherine Laguitan, Br. Ruben Caluyong and Mrs. Annie Sorbito. They were the people who believed in what I could do. People who always encouraged, motivated and trusted me. They taught me not only the lessons in school but also the lessons in life on how to be a better person. They were not only my teacher but a friend and like a family to me.

Who was your favorite teacher/home-room adviser/guidance counselor and why?

My favorite teacher was Ms. Edwina Meily. She is the coolest teacher I have ever known. She’s the one who always reminds me that life is beautiful and we need to enjoy it. Ms. Weena is a strong woman and I admire her for that. She always gave me advice everytime I have a problem. She corrects our wrongdoings and explains to us what is right. I can’t forget the words that she always says to us, “All things will come in God’s perfect time!”

Share 1 or 2 unforgettable experi-ence/s, special activities or events as an LSGH student that you can recall. The unforgettable experience when I was a stu-dent was when we had an outbound in Salekne-ta Farm in Bulacan. I appreciated the goodness of nature, the mountain, trees and the plants. I experienced how to milk the cow. We also harvested kalamansi and they taught us how to make them into juice. I played on a hanging bridge like a kid, something I never experienced as a child. I enjoyed a lot in this activity. The other one was when we went to Kanlungan ni Maria Foundation, a home for the aged. I felt

sad when I saw an old man and a woman sitting on wheelchairs with different illnesses. Where are their children and family? Why are they in this kind of place? These were questions in my mind. I realized then that I am so lucky because we have our parents. That time, I promised myself that these won’t be happening to my par-ents. In this activity, I appreciated the importance of my parents. We should give them more love and happines for the rest of their lives.

On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 as the highest, how happy were you to be an LSGH student? Explain.

10. I was happy as an LSGH student because I have learned a lot of things in school, not only the academic lessons but also the lessons in life. The people here are very kind and happy. They are willing to help all the time. The most important thing is they have the formation here to make a student a good one.

THE PRESENT

Why did you choose to work in LSGH? Honestly, I did not expect to work in LSGH, it is just that God is so kind to me. I only asked him for me to pass the exam but he gave me more than what I asked for. He gave me this job and I’m so blessed and happy to have this. I love working here because the people here are very kind and generous.

Did you find your ALS education to be useful outside school? How was it useful? Yes, it is useful to me! I use it for my everyday life. It built my self-confidence. I am not shy anymore to deal with different people.

How would you best describe an ALS student, what sets them apart from the rest? LSGH ALS is different from others because they have the spirit of helping. They have the heart of being a true Lasallian.

If you could add and/or change 1 or 2 things in LSGH now, what would it be?

More opportunities to work here for all ALS graduates.

On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 as the highest, would you recommend other alumni to work here in LSGH? Explain.

10. Being able to work in LSGH is a big break for me. I am so blessed to have this job. The people here treat us as family and not just a worker only. They have unity, they are ready to help each other, and have the heart for the needy. The most that I love here in LSGH is the forma-tion that we cannot get from other companies.

In the past months of working in LSGH, I enjoyed my job as a secretary of HS Guidance and Counseling Services Unit. I feel so lucky because my co-workers are so kind to me, especially our Coordinator. They teach me the things that I need to learn. The people surrounding me are always smiling and willing to help. I have learned so many things here.

The difference of being a student and being a working adult for me is you have more responsibility when you are already working. I have to have an ouput, I need to give my best in everything I do so that everything will be good. I also have the company rules to follow.

Lastly, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to LSGH community for giving me a chance to work here, for believing in my capability. Thank you for this opportunity. You gave me hope to fulfill my dreams. Continue helping for all the needy especially those who want to go to school like me despite my age. You make my life meaningful. Thank you so much.

THE PAST

Why did you choose to enroll in TVET? It was my Lola’s idea. At first ayaw ko po talaga. Last day of enrollment, I decided to enroll when my tita told me na hindi muna daw po ako makakapag-college. I don’t have any regrets now, stay positive! :)

As a student, who were the people from school who were memorable to you? Why were they memorable?

Our trainer, no other than Ms. Mercy Andrade. She taught us how to boost our confidence in every situation lalo na sa food industry. She has a great personality, lalo na po sa pagtuturo.

Who was your favorite teacher/home-room adviser and why?

When I was a student, there’s one person na kapag nakikita ko, masaya na agad yung gabi ko, because of her positive aura. The way she smiles and talks and yung kakaibang way n’ya of listening to us, our TVET coordinator, Mrs. Marie Katipunan.

Our ship board training and the Fourth Annual Search for the ANHS Ambassadors. On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 as the highest, how happy were you to be an LSGH student? Explain.

A perfect 10 po, I can’t explain how happy I am. Well-timed po lahat, even nung nag-champion po ako sa Search for ANHS Ambassadors -- yun po yung highlight para sa akin ng pagiging TVET student ko, hindi po nasayang yung 10 months ko as a TVET student.

THE PRESENT

Why did you choose to work in LSGH?

To be honest, I was planning to apply sa LC1, working po kasi yung isa kong classmate as Teacher Aide. So I passed my resume to Sir Roy, after a few weeks, before graduation, I didn’t know na kailangan po ni Ms. Gev ng assistant so ayun, kinausap po nila ako then tinanggap ko po yung offer. God’s plan po ulit! :)

Did you find your TVET education to be useful outside school? How was it useful?

Yes po. Although it’s just a vocational attain-ment, it is a big factor to be a TVET graduate. How would you best describe a TVET

student, what sets them apart from the rest?

Well-disciplined. First thing na matututunan mo as a Lasallian ay yung disiplina. We all know naman po na given na ang pagtuturo ng good manners and right conduct in all schools, pero for me po kasi iba pa rin po yung tinututukan each student to have discipline. If you’re a well-disciplined student, hindi na yun maalis sa ‘yo.

On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 as the highest, would you recommend other alumni to work here in LSGH? Explain.

8. This is my first work and yes, it’s hard at first but I’m happy working with them.

Ma. Fatima D. AlejandroLSGH/Batch 2016

At this moment, I still fell so lucky to be a part of the LSGH community. The word “thanks” isn’t enough para po sa lahat ng tumulong sa akin, lalo na po kay Mrs. Agnes Alonsozana, our beautiful inside and out Principal. Being a student and an employee both have their own responsibilities, pero mas malaki na po yung responsibility ko as a staff. Like what Steve Jobs says, “The only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle.”

THE PAST

Why did you choose to enroll in ANHS?

As a student, who were the people from school who were memorable to you? Why were they memorable?

Br. Victor A. Franco FSC, kasalukuyang Presidente ng LSGH noong ako’y nasa ANHS.

Who was your favorite teacher/home-room adviser/guidance counselor and why?

Share 1 or 2 unforgettable experi-ence/s, special activities or events as an LSGH student that you can recall.

On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 as the highest, how happy were you to be an LSGH student? Explain.

Lagi ako Perfect Attendace mula 1st hangang 5th year at nakakasama sa Top 10.

THE PRESENT

Why did you choose to work in LSGH? Evangeline Tamaca (Assistant Principal of Learning Community 2) at Bb. Norma Salazar (Principal ng Mababang Paaralan.)

Did you find your ANHS education to be useful outside school? How was it useful? I think yes, kasi kung ano ang mga values or natutunan ko dito madadala ko ito sa labas o kahit saan man ako mapunta.

How would you best describe an ANHS student, what sets them apart from the rest? Magandang edukasyon at magagaling na guro at higit sa lahat, magandang eskwelahan na pribado.

If you could add and/or change 1 or 2 things in LSGH now, what would it be?

On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 as the highest, would you recommend other alumni to work here in LSGH? Explain.

Magandang benepisyo at palakad.

As of being a working student, mahirap kasi ginagampanan mo muna ‘yong trabaho mo sa araw.

Keep up the good work. Animo La Salle!

fear came to me. I wasn’t sure then if I could pass the entrance exams and interviews, but the apprehension I was feeling was transformed to happiness when I got accepted.

On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 as the highest, how happy were you to be an LSGH student? Explain.

10. Very much happy because this is the place 10! No words can express how much grati-tude I feel not only to the Brothers but also the volunteer teachers and staff of the ANHS. They not only formed good students, but more importantly, they taught us how to be better and responsible citizens.

THE PRESENT

Why did you choose to work in LSGH?

As I was receiving my HS diploma, Dr. Estrella Castañeda told me, “I want you to see me on Monday. ”Three days after graduation, at 7AM, we met and the rest is history, I started working as an office clerk at CENTRO (filing, tallying responses, etc.) and after 6 months, I got trans-ferred to ANHS as clerk typist.

Did you find your ANHS education to be useful outside school? How was it useful?

It helped a lot, while I was working in the ANHS years back in 1992, I continued to pursue my studies in Jose Rizal University taking up Bachelor of Commercial Science, and even got my MA in Educational Management at National Teachers’ College.

How would you best describe an ANHS student, what sets them apart from the rest?

La Salle Green Hills Adult Night High School is an institution and venue where Lasallian education is made available. A venue for those wishing to finish their High School. ANHS students are independent, they find ways how to manage their time for work and for studying. They excel academically and in terms of the Technical-Vo-cational courses, are very competitive.

If you could add and/or change 1 or 2 things in LSGH now, what would it be?

I could say adding programs that can help our less fortunate and finacially-challenged. Hire our own graduates, some of them have potentials to work hard and become an asset to our institution.

On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 as the highest, would you recommend other alumni to work here in LSGH? Explain.

A 10. I recommend LSGH, not only because of having a stable job that can financially sus-tain you, I can see the values of having good relationship, helping one another, and working together as one community.

THE PAST

Why did you choose to enroll in TVET?

As a student, who were the people from school who were memorable to you? Why were they memorable?

Who was your favorite teacher/home-room adviser and why?

Share 1 or 2 unforgettable experi-ence/s, special activities or events as an LSGH student that you can recall.

On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 as the highest, how happy were you to be an LSGH student? Explain.

THE PRESENT

Why did you choose to work in LSGH?

Did you find your TVET education to be useful outside school? How was it useful?

How would you best describe a TVET student, what sets them apart from the rest?

On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 as the highest, would you recommend other alumni to work here in LSGH? Explain.

Why did you choose to enroll in ANHS? My guardian chose it, to know what I’m doing in school or to guard me. I grew up with my aunties and lola in the province and here in Manila. THE PAST

Why did you choose to enroll in TVET? I chose to enroll in TVET because I wanted to fur-ther improve my skills, especially in Bookkeeping and Clerical Management.

As a student, who were the people from school who were memorable to you? Why were they memorable?

Ms. Agnes, Ms. Suzette and Ms. Melba were the people who encouraged and inspired me to con-tinue to learn and grow as a professional and be more knowledgeable in my chosen field.

Who was your favorite teacher/home-room adviser/guidance counselor and why?

I don’t have a favorite because all of them are the best. They touched my heart and inspired me to do well.

Share 1 or 2 unforgettable experi-ence/s, special activities or events as an LSGH student that you can recall.

“One Heart, One Purpose” Program wherein stu-dents per class voluntarily and happily shared a little of what they have for a student who needs it the most. This shows how giving is a sign of fulfillment. That when you give, even if you have a little, is such a rewarding feeling.

On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 as the highest, how happy were you to be an LSGH student? Explain.

Of course, 10. I was so happy because I was able to learn new things and meet new friends too. I always believe that happiness is about learning more so I can make more of a difference in other’s lives.

THE PRESENT

Why did you choose to work in LSGH? It’s because of the positive environment LSGH has. The employees are cheerful and easy to get along with. The sense of belongingness is present and you never feel rejected. The level of professionalism is a big factor too.

Did you find your TVET education to be useful outside school? How was it useful? I took Bookkeeping and basically it is more of Accounting. Yes. I found it useful for my everyday life. I was able to apply my accounting skills in terms of managing my spending. I can control my expenses, know how to budget wisely and make smart financial decisions.

How would you best describe a TVET-student, what sets them apart from the rest?

A student who has a strong determination to finish his/her studies despite lack of resources, willing to conquer every obstacle that will come along the way just to reach his/her goals in life and may not have everything compared to oth-ers but still living-out the value of helping people who are in need.

On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 as the highest, would you recommend other alumni to work here in LSGH? Explain.

Of course. Still 10. Being part of the LSGH family is indeed a privilege. It is a good training ground to hone their skills and potentials and working here can give them an opportunity to influence people’s lives.

I am happy and proud working in LSGH. This place is my second home. Being responsible, having a positive outlook in life, accepting and learning from mistakes, perseverance and smiling through the hard times are the values I learned here.

I am truly grateful for the people who lent their hands and guided me on my journey in this institution. As a result I learned many things from the people who supported me.

THE PAST

Why did you choose to enroll in TVET?

I chose La Salle Green Hills Adult Night High School because it’s a popular school and I think this school can help me achieve my goals in life. They encourage their students to study hard so that their principles and goals in life can come true. Also, La Salle Green Hills ANHS mold students into total human beings by providing them the best education program. So, when my auntie asked if i wanted to study in La Salle Green Hills for additional courses, I did not hesitate to grab that opportunity because not everyone gets a chance to study in one of the most prestigious schools. Also, it was easy for me because Adult Night High School offers night classes. I was 3rd year college that time in my business course when I decided to study.“ Aral sa umaga, aral sa gabi” – that was my life before. It was a challenge for me to take two courses in different schools and I’m very lucky and cherish those moments.

As a student, who were the people from school who were memorable to you? Why were they memorable?

My 10 months in Adult Night High School were spent building close and memorable connec-tions with my CLASSMATES. It’s funny how we all started from the same beginning but ended up in completely different places in life. I treasure

every moment, spending my time with them. For all the memories, knowledge and skills we shared, it served as our shield to be motivated. Also, to all TEACHERS who gave so much effort into their classes, inspiring and empowering their students to learn and to succeed. They want you to go out into the world armed with so much information and knowledge.

Who was your favorite teacher/home-room adviser/guidance counselor and why?

I had many teachers who taught me a lot about life. But there is one person who I can never forget. She was a former Assistant Principal in the Grade School where I worked under her supervision for almost a month and now she is the Principal of Adult Night. Her name is Mrs. Agnes C. Alonsozana. She inspired me a lot. She’s a strong woman who is able to stand up for herself. She has a big heart for everyone. I adore her for being kind, thoughtful and caring not just for me but for everyone.

Share 1 or 2 unforgettable experi-ence/s, special activities or events as an LSGH student that you can recall. My unforgettable moment was when we had our Onboard Training Apprenticeship at 2GO Travel (Manila-Cebu.) As a Food and Beverages student, it was a great help for us to explore and get experience through training. I learned a lot of things. I learned how to com-

municate and understand well what is customer service especially in food and beverages depart-ment. I have many chances of applying all I’ve learned from my Alma Mater. I learned to boost my confidence and pay attention/attending to guests’ needs. The OJT experience was really great to remember!

On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 as the highest, how happy were you to be an LSGH student? Explain.

10 because La Salle Green Hills to me was not only a place to grow but also a place to have fun. It’s always a lot of laughs, full of funny things as well as happy moments that come with being a student.

THE PRESENT

Why did you choose to work in LSGH?

I chose La Salle Green Hills to utilize my knowl-edge and skills with an advantage for profes-sional growth.

On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 as the highest, would you recommend other alumni to work here in LSGH? Explain.

7 because I think they deserve to develop their skills outside the school. Because not all courses offered by Adult Night High School is fitted for a La Salle Green Hills employee.

Why were they memorable?Everyone in the ANHS had his/her precious memories in me that I cannot forget. Because those memories and experiences with them are part of my whole being’s development as a mature Lasalian.Who was your favorite teacher/home-room adviser/guidance counselor and why?1. Ms. Junelyn Domingo - She is a strong woman

and a great English teacher. She always moti-vated me to achieve my goals in life.

2. Mr. Baldwin Noel Que - He handled everything so easily. He never judged and was always in-between. He’s so fun to be with.

3. Mr. Ronn Belen - He has a strong faith in his dreams. He knows where he stands. He is an open-minded person.

4. Mr. Edserlito Reños - He’s so “pasensyoso” and a stage father to us.

5. Ms. Bernadette Nolasco - An influential Gram-mar teacher. Simple but beautiful and sexy. :-)

6. Mr. Ferdinand Jarin - He can discuss the whole lesson without bringing any materials, just a piece of chalk. He is a very smart and inspiring teacher. He can touch the minds of students to pursue their writing abilities.

I love LSGH and I understand the community. Everything is not perfect but I believe we are progressing.

THE PRESENT

Why did you choose to work in LSGH?Because I love to serve my Alma Mater. I don’t want to waste the good oppurtunies that have been given to me here.Did you find your ANHS education to be useful outside school? How was it useful?Yes it is .I learned how to be a practical person when it comes to interacting with others. How would you best describe an ANHS student, what sets them apart from the rest? It’s like a “training ground” for those who want to be successful in life.If you could add and/or change 1 or 2 things in LSGH now, what would it be?Free boarding house to those deserving ANHS working students.Less traffic, minimum of 5 students per car. :-)On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 as the highest, would you recommend other alumni

to work here in LSGH? Explain.10. Yes I would. Because aside from salary, working here in LSGH is so heart-warming. It feels like I’m serving my family. We are united that we have care for everybody. Like me, they will also feel comfortable here because people are so kind and they have nothing to worry about with the bosses here. And that makes the tasks lighter.

Working here in LSGH makes me feel more like a responsible citizen. Since I graduated here, I must show the community what good things I have learned in my 5 years in ANHS. Every teacher/leader encouraged us to be a good person here so I must not do disappointing things. We should apply the core values in our daily lives. It’s quite challenging but in this way, I know I will develop myself more to become a genuine Lasallian. Being a student is more of following, obeying your teachers on what needs to be done. We rely on our next actions from our teachers. Acting/doing tasks like you are practically doing it at the work area already. Yes we marked everything that we learned from class but there are “what if” questions in our minds. What if I’m on the actual job? What should I do if that/this happened? How should we act spontaneously? But if you are a working adult already, you have to be self-generated. You should stand on your own. You have your own way to perform your tasks greatly without waiting for your boss to teach you everything that has to be done.I wish that my LSGH community will continue their goals to help the less fortunate ,to develop the skilled for wiser students. To be more productive so that this school will make it to top of our Founder’s highest dream. And lastly, I wish to serve here longer than my expectations. Thank you very much. :-)

THE PAST

Why did you choose to enroll in ANHS?

As a student, who were the people from school who were memorable to you? Why were they memorable?

My batchmates, especially my freinds.

Who was your favorite teacher/home-room adviser and why?

Ang aking mga paboritong guro ay sina Ms. Ana Ria Aguilar, Sir Rheal Dayrit at Sir Ferdinand Jarin.Ms.

Did you find your ANHS education to be useful outside school? How was it useful?

How would you best describe an ANHS student, what sets them apart from the rest?

THE PAST

Why did you choose to enroll in ANHS?

As a student, who were the people from school who were memorable to you? Why were they memorable?

Who was your favorite teacher/home-room adviser and why?

Share 1 or 2 unforgettable experi-ence/s, special activities or events as an LSGH student that you can recall.

On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 as the highest, how happy were you to be an LSGH student? Explain.

THE PRESENT

Why did you choose to work in LSGH?

Did you find your ANHS education to be useful outside school? How was it useful?

How would you best describe an ANHS student, what sets them apart from the rest?

Mabait, magalang, may takot sa Diyos, mapag-mahal sa bayan at pamilya.

On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 as the highest, would you recommend other alumni to work here in LSGH? Explain.

50

James Last J. dela CruzLSGH/Batch 2012

Why did you choose to enroll in TVET?

As a student, who were the people from school who were memorable to you? Why were they memorable?

And last si Mr. Rheal D. Dayrit, lagi niya kami inaalala and lagi niya kami pinu-push na mag-aral mabuti.

How would you best describe a TVET stu-dent, what sets them apart from the rest?

Mas nabibigyan ng malaking opportunity ang mga stu-dents ng ANHS and dito, walang age limit sa pag-aaral :) And mas masarap mag-aral dito kasi masaya.

If you could add and/or change 1 or 2 things in LSGH now, what would it be?

THE PAST

Why did you choose to enroll in ANHS?

As a student, who were the people from school who were memorable to you? Why were they memorable?

My teachers, admin and classmates.

Who was your favorite teacher/home-room adviser/guidance counselor and why?

klase.

Share 1 or 2 unforgettable experi-ence/s, special activities or events as an LSGH student that you can recall. 1st – World Youth Day.

It’s like a family --nagtutulungan kahit sa mga maliliit na bagay.

On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 as the highest, would you recommend other alumni to work here in LSGH?

10 –Yes!

THE PAST

Why did you choose to enroll in ANHS and TVET?

I studied here because I wanted to change the lifestyle I grew up with. I mean from being out of school for how many years, I decided to go back and finished at least my Secondary Education.

As a student, who were the people from school who were memorable to you? Why were they memorable?

My classmates, my friends, and my boyfriend whom I met here and is also my partner until now. And because of them, I was able to pursue my studies. It’s like everyday I wanted to go to school just to be with them, and everytime I’m having difficulty in other subjects they don’t hesi-tate to help me. They were my inspiration.

Who was your favorite teacher/home-room adviser and why?

For me I like them all, because they’re all friendly, and they didn’t just teach us to learn but they also treated us a family members.

Share 1 or 2 unforgettable experi-ence/s, special activities or events as an LSGH student that you can recall. Actually there’s a lot, haha! ‘Cause I joined in all the activities that I knew I could do. Hehehe! :) But there is one that I can recall which was the subject role-playing. It was a group activity where I was the director and also played one of the characters. It was funny because I won as Best Actress and Best Director. :)

On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 as the highest, how happy were you to be an LSGH student? Explain.

10. Because unlike before, I wasn’t that really serious when it comes to studying, that all I ever wanted is to stay at home, do nothing or go out with friends. But when I entered Adult Night High School, it utterly changed everything, like I focused on my studies, did homeworks and submitted projects on time. And I always wanted to strive to come up with a best result.

THE PRESENT

Why did you choose to work in LSGH?

I chose to work here because I wanted to give back all the things that they have taught me. I could honestly say that La Salle helped me a lot through good quality education, financial support, and in becoming a good Christian.

Did you find your ANHS/TVET educa-

tion to be useful outside school? How was it useful?

Yes it was, but basically it is more on who you become after graduating, ‘cause here they also teach us to become a better person.

How would you best describe an ANHS/TVET student, what sets them apart from the rest?

It’s not just what they learned academically but also for me what sets them apart is that an Adult Night student adapts to the culture of being a true Lasallian in so many ways which you could see in most of the alumni.

On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 as the highest, would you recommend other alumni to work here in LSGH? Explain.

10 because here like us who didn’t get a chance to have a degree, you are still treated like every-body else. I mean, here whether you’re the boss, guard, janitor or like us teacher aides, they will still give you the same respect.

When I was a student before, there are lots of things that I wanted to buy, but couldn’t afford to buy because I’m still studying and I don’t have income, I only get allowance from school. But now that I have work, I can buy what buy I want and eat what I like, and most important is that now I can help my family and others, even in a smidgen act of kindness.

You just have to show great forbearance especially in dealing with the kids, because if not, you will end up having no job at all hehehe! And we all know that kids are kids -- they will just do anything that comes to their minds. So far what I have learned here is that you have to be patient, not only with the kids, but also with task given. You also have to be respectful to everyone. You have to strive and work hard because at the end of the day, everything will pay off. And in able to keep the job, like what they say “Stay humble, work hard, be kind.”

THE PAST

Why did you choose to enroll in ANHS?Because I know it will give me an opportunity to enter college as a scholar. As a student, who were the people from school who were memorable to you? Why were they memorable? My ANHS teachers were all kind and very pas-sionate in their teaching. The teacher I really love is Ms. June Domingo. She is very considerate to her students especially those who need more attention. She is very accommodating even if the problems are beyond her duty and she still there to help you with all her heart. I really appreciate her and I hope the school will appreciate her as much as we do.Who was your favorite teacher/home-room adviser and why?Ms. Junelyn Domingo. She never gets tired. She is a true person, she will tell you the things you don’t want to hear but it helps you realize things and think more critically.Share 1 or 2 unforgettable experi-ence/s, special activities or events as an LSGH student that you can recall. THE PRESENT

Why did you choose to work in LSGH?Because I know the environment is different from the corporate world.Did you find your ANHS education to be useful outside school? How was it useful? It is useful, not just the network that I have right now but the values that my ANHS teachers engraved in my heart. Respect one another, don’t look at the status of the person and love our God. How would you best describe an ANHS student, what sets them apart from the rest?Well the Formal Students (ANHS) have much more camaraderie than the TVET students. May-be because the time they spend in class.

If you could add and/or change 1 or 2 things in LSGH now, what would it be?The Alumni Officer of the ANHS. The officers there are in that position for so many years and yet there are no changes, maybe because the officers don’t get changed or they don’t want to be changed or don’t want to get out of their positions. On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 as the highest, would you recommend other alumni to work here in LSGH? Explain.Yes. LSGH is very generous and very considerate. And the values of the alumni cannot be changedespecially to its Alma Mater.

When I was a student all I have to consider were the assignments, but now I am working in LSGH all things matters like how you interact with different people, you think how your work would be more competent and the like.

I would like to say that LSGH is one of the best mission schools in the Philippines not just for the students also for its employees.

THE PAST

Why did you choose to enroll in TVET?

The course that TVET offers fits what I want. It also fits my talent. As a student, who were the people from school who were memorable to you? Why were they memorable?

My teachers and classmates when I was in our Hairdressing class. They help me boost my talent, confidence and made my knowledge more effi-cient. Up to now, we’re still good friends. Some of them are my workmates.

Who was your favorite teacher/home-room adviser/guidance counselor and why?

Mr. Rheal Dayrit. He is a good example. I may not have had the chance to be one of his students or him to be my teacher, but he was the Princi-pal of the ANHS/TVET when I was in Hairdressing class. But it’s not just him, but all the teachers in La Salle will treat you as a family.

Share 1 or 2 unforgettable experi-ence/s, special activities or events as an LSGH student that you can recall. The unforgettable experience or moment that I can recall is that I won 3rd place in our Hair and Make-up Competition last 2015. I did not expect that ‘coz I know there are people who did better than me.

On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 as the highest, how happy were you to be an LSGH student? Explain.

9. I am happy that I have experienced the educa-tional system that LSGH has to offer. And be one of the proud alumni of LSGH.

THE PRESENT

Why did you choose to work in LSGH?

I firmly know the place that I will be working in since I am a student of the school for years. And as what I heard, the working environment is friendly and I know a lot of my colleagues since before I started to work here.

Did you find your TVET education to be useful outside school? How was it useful?

The things I learned with TVET helped me boost my talent and made my knowledge more effi-cient and it also helped me earn more and gave me confidence with the skills I have to offer.

How would you best describe a TVET student, what sets them apart from the rest?

TVET students might not have the degree that the others have from the other universities but the learning we got within the course of our journey with TVET is simple yet so much helpful in terms of knowledge, skills training and inter-

national standards. For me, that’s what sets TVET students apart from others.

If you could add and/or change 1 or 2 things in LSGH now, what would it be?

Hope they give more attention to those who really need education badly since the school has been put up for the needy and for those who can’t afford proper education.

Would you recommend other alumni to work here in LSGH? Explain.

Yes, since there are lot of good qualities and benefits the worker gets from being an employee of LSGH, and having the workplace as your own home, connected as one family.

Working in LSGH made me who I am today. This is my first job and as of now, my experiences have taught me a lot that you have got to work for what you want. You have to learn how to be a good example and to have a lot of patience.

From a student to a working professional is different in terms of teaching you to be more dependent on yourself since I am now an adult with my own sense of direction, more open to learn new things and more knowledgeable in certain things than before.

THE PAST

Why did you choose to enroll in TVET?

I love learning and I have an eye for art. I believe food and art go together. I’m a foodie and I love to explore food and I want to create my own version.Describe your class, classmates, school activities, teachers, etc.

My teachers are very patient and see to it that we learn very well from our tasks. My classmates who are chefs from other hotels gave us insights from the real world.Share 1 or 2 unforgettable experience/s,

special activities or events as an LSGH student that you can

recall.

I spent many sleepless nights preparing for our assessments. Unfortunately, on an actual test, I almost failed the choco mousse but my classmates encouraged me to try again and finally I did it.How did it feel to be an “LSGH stu-dent”?

I feel renewed because I now have an idea of being a student and became more understand-ing of our students. What are the advantages of undergoing a TVET course?

I learned a lot and when I want to cook food I just download the recipe and use the knowledge that I have learned from TVET.

On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 as the highest, would you recommend other teach-ers to take up a TVET course or two? Explain.

10 !We can learn more from our classmates who are now in the industry.

Never stop learning and believe that we can achieve more in our lives. Just be patient.

THE PAST

Why did you choose to enroll in TVET?

I have always wanted to learn the basics of baking. Since the course was being offered in TVET (within the LSGH campus,) I grabbed the opportunity.

Describe your class, classmates, school activities, teachers, etc.

My class was a combination of students from all walks of life. Some younger and others older than me. Despite our different educational backgrounds and social status in life, we were all equals in class. Our teacher then was very skilled in the course she was teaching. She made sure we learned the right techniques in doing our craft. It was indeed a very fun and fulfilling year.

Likewise, the succeeding years were equally gratifying.

How did it feel to be an “LSGH stu-dent”?

I felt so blessed for the opportunity to study again no matter how simple and meager the resources were. I was enriched as a person not only perfecting my craft but I was also able to broaden my outlook in the lives of those who have less in life. I was able to allow myself to be able to reach out without expecting anything in return. That is the reason why I opted to teach in ANHS (2011 to the present) so that I can continue to share whatever I have. It is my joy to see my students learn not only the basics, but more im-portantly to see them apply their learning in life.

On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 as the highest, would you recommend other teachers to take up a TVET course or two? Explain. I would go for 10. It would be good to expand our horizons to something non-academic. Learn-ing a skill or two would always be advantageous.
