meeting, Wednesday, June 20, 2012.

Application for Life Membership

ing been initiated on May 23, 1962.

ER’s MessageHere we are again, another month gone by. They seem to be passing pretty quick

from my perspective. June is here and we have opportunities to get involved at

the Lodge.

On June 1st, our Lodge is hosting a “Ladies Only” lunch for patients at Southern Or-

egon Rehabilitation Center & Clinics on Friday, at 11:30 a.m. at Rogue River Lodge,

Trail. Lodge ladies and friends are invited. Contact Rhonda Brustol (541.941.9052)

to RSVP or to inquire about future Veteran’s events. Carpools are available.

On June 2nd we are hosting the State Ritual Contest. Six teams are coming to

compete for the State title, and the opportunity to perform in the National con-

test in Austin in July. This is an interesting time to watch teams from all over the

State perform the initiation ritual. Volunteers are needed all day to help with this

event. Call Fred Hatfi eld, PER (541.601.5002) if you would like to come help us.

And feel free to come down to the Lodge for Breakfast and Lunch and meet the

many Elk visitors from the district winning Lodges.

On June 9th, we are having a fun new event with a new vaudeville performance

troop called Speakeasy and the Silhouettes. They will be dancing, singing, and

keeping us laughing. This will be raising money to help pay for our Dumbwaiter.

This is for adults only, but don’t worry... We are not breaking any rules here. Good

clean adult oriented fun.

June 14th is Flag Day, and like we do every year we will honor the emblem of our

Country on the Plaza. We have a band, and many fl ags to display. Come to the

back door of the Lodge at 10 a.m. to help us setup, and/or come down to the

Plaza at noon to be part of the ceremony. If you are available to help, please give

me a call. (541.292.0472)

On June 17th, we have our Family Picnic. The PER Association is throwing a party

for the whole family. It’s free for all to attend, but bring some donations for the PER

fund through some raffl es and a 50/50

drawing. Burgers and Dogs will be hot

off of the grill with all the fi xings. We

may even get to have the Dunk Tank

that we have talked about in the past!

Who would you like to dunk? I am

looking for more volunteers to help

with this one too... Call me at the same

number as above.

Finally, Polly suggested to me that I

show off our state offi cers in the Bulle-

tin, and I thought that was a great idea.

I would like to thank these people for

serving the Elks at the State level. It is

a lot of work, and we should let them

know that we appreciate their service

to this great organization.

Please keep volunteering, with your

help, we are going to keep our Lodge a

vibrant hub of Fun, Fraternity & Charity.

Fraternally,

Michael Golden

Hawaiian Luau ThanksOn May 12th the Ashland Elks Lodge hosted our annual Luau and what a great time we had! The hundred plus people that attended were treated to excellent Ha-

waiian food and enjoyed fantastic hula dancing by Ho’opa’a Hawaii. Some folks braved the dance fl oor and got a quick hula lesson. The kids (and adults) went crazy

with the hula hoops. Many thanks to Ho’opa’a Hawaii for graciously donating their time. A big thank you to Chef Gary Nadeau for the wonderful dinner! Also thank

you to Alan Parowski for bringing his Hawaiian decorations, Joey Ngan for his perfect lighting, and Scott and Nancy Curry for sharing their amazing sound machine.

Congratulations to Sheila Whitesitt and Doug Peterson for winning Mary Danca’s beautiful handmade Hawaiian quilt and Hula book. Thank you Mary! For decorating,

undecorating, cashiering, and serving I want to give many, many thanks to Irene Stone, Berniece Monning, Linda Goldfarb, Nancy Curry, Deanna LaBrensz, Ralph and

Marilyn Fidler, Clyde Brustol, Liz Bailey, Fred Hatfi eld, Mary Bratten, Karen Stewart, Jessica Ballard, Jamie Garcia, Maria Navarrette, Kathy Price and April Carrington. The

volunteers at the Elks Lodge continue to rock! I hope you’ll join us next year for another great Luau.

Mahalo and Aloha to all!

To DecorateDo you love to decorate for the holidays? Is setting a formal dinner table some-

thing that you enjoy? We are in the process of setting up a “master” list of po-

tential decorators for all the events and holidays at the Lodge. No one would

be obligated to decorate all the time, and this wouldn’t have to be a permanent

commitment. We’d just like to be able to send out an email or make some phone

calls when necessary and if you’re able or willing to help, great. If not, no problem.

After helping decorate for the last 10 years, I can say it really is a lot of fun, so I hope

you’ll join the group for some occasional decorating and FUN. If you’re interested,

please call Polly Stonier at 541.535.4523.
