Cover our children… “Brothers and sisters, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for the Israelites is that they may be saved. For I can testify about them that they are zealous for God, but their zeal is not based on knowledge.” Romans 10:1-2 There is no doubt that Paul had incredible passion and compassion for his brethren. The above passage comes from scripture that finds Paul wanting desperately to reach those that should already know the love of Christ, those that should know best. However, they have a barrier, something that stands in the way of them learning and seeing the truth that lies before them. Paul writes that the barrier is based in zeal for the law instead of zeal for God Himself. They did not know God. Therefore, Paul desired nothing more than that they would be saved. He prayed for this; that they would find the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. His total focus was on salvation, and was not distracted. Through this, Paul gives us a great example of how we should pray for those near to us, especially at this time of year. For the past few years, I have asked that we pray for our students, teachers, and administrators as the year begins and then continue to keep them in our prayers as the year continues; praying for their safety, health, ability to recall, think, interact well, respect, etc. However, using the above scripture, our collective heart’s desire and prayer should be that they may be saved. Why not pray for all those things that I mentioned just a second ago? Well, I’m not saying to stop…I’m saying to focus. Don’t stop praying for safety, health, etc. These are good things. However, let’s rearrange our priorities. First, and foremost, let us pray that they receive the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. Imagine if every student knew Christ. Then, all those other things would slowly work out because we would have a common standard from which to work. We must pray that Christ enters the life of these students. The athletes, band members, and cheerleaders will have an opportunity to hear a message that begins this journey on August 6th at the Hamburger Lunch. Pray that this is received well. Pray that Christ’s influence re-mains in our school system. And, never give up on the fact that Christ is the one that changes lives. Cover our children with Christ! In His Service, Bro. Grant
