PRINCIPAL’S REPORT This week, we have been celebrating Education Week. This year’s theme is Learning together. 2020 has been a very different year with students, staff and parents needing to take on learning that was not expected and a year where we have all been required to learn together. We have developed skills and understandings around learning and working remotely, with technology being an important tool.

Our congratulations go to all Education Week award recipients who were recognised at a brief assembly held yesterday. Tillie, Emily G, Madisyn and Firas received student awards. Mrs Carson, Mrs Keogh and Mrs Campbell were recognised as members of staff. Rachel, Jolie and Fia accepted certificates on behalf of their parents at the assembly and Mrs Kelly accepted an award on behalf of Mrs Turner from the Armidale Secondary College. Mrs Gooley, Mrs Hess and Ms Long received their awards following the assembly and Mrs Turner received her award today.

Kindergarten Enrolment Applications We are asking that all applications to enrol in Kindergarten in 2021 are provided to the school as soon as possible to ensure that you are advised of any Orientation to School activities in Term 4. We especially need to have enrolment applications for local enrolments to identify the number of non-local places available at Armidale City Public School. Applications for non-local placements are welcome, but are not a guarantee of acceptance. Our enrolment committee will meet later this term to determine acceptance of placement and parents will be notified in the last week of this term.

The revised Enrolment Policy clarifies that the selection criteria for non-local enrolment will not include student ability, performance or achievement, and that priority should be given to siblings of currently enrolled students where possible.

When enrolling a student into a government school, you will need to have a number of documents. If you do not have these, this is the time to collect the information. You will need to have a copy of a standard birth certificate (commemorative birth certificates cannot be used for enrolment), Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) statement/certificate and several documents proving residential address in the name of the enrolling parent or carer. A full list of the documentation can be found at https://education.nsw.gov.au/content/dam/main-education/public-schools/going-to-a-public-school/media/documents/Residential-address-check.pdf

Be vigilant, stay safe In the last couple of weeks we have seen a resurgence in COVID-19 cases in Australia. For the safety of our students, staff, parents and wider community we need to be vigilant in following the recommended strategies of staying home if unwell, physical distance, hand and cough hygiene. It is essential that students who are unwell stay home and do not attend school. We ask for your assistance in not sending children to school if they complain of being unwell.

Lost clothing Parents are asked to double-check that all jumpers, coats and hats are clearly labelled. We currently have a significant pile of unlabelled clothing that cannot be returned to students. Some jumpers have been labelled previously but names have faded. Regular relabelling of items helps us to help you.

Take care, Ms Deborah Nay

K/1G CLASS NEWS K/1G is excited to be back together!

We have been working hard learning about fairy tales. K/1G have enjoyed reading some familiar stories and looking at the characters, setting, problem and the solution. Over the last two weeks we have been looking at different characters and their inside and outside traits. The ideas and vocabulary coming from the children has been fantastic.

In History, we are learning all about our families. We discussed ‘what is a family?’ and we would like to share some of our answers; Love You are connected You support each other Friends can be family You never forget them It doesn’t matter how big or small your family is, family is family.

I can’t wait to see what other amazing ideas K/1G comes up with in Term 3.

EDUCATION WEEK 2020

This year, Education Week will run from Monday 3 August to

Friday 7 August 2020 and the theme is 'Learning together'.

This is a fitting theme as we have all had to work together to

move learning online and maintain the continuity of education

during the COVID-19 restrictions. We thank all students,

parents, community and teachers for your ongoing support

during this difficult school year.

Armidale City students have returned to class and transitioned

smoothly into the everyday routines of schooling life. This

week we celebrate our students’ resilience, collaboration and

enthusiasm as they continue to learn together throughout the

school year. To celebrate our students’ ability to learn

together, we have created a shared story and ‘pass the

marker’ video to showcase the learning that occurs in every

classroom, every day.
