Chapter 1 - INTRODUCTION

Throughout this Book the term Angel, Archangel, Guardian, and Birth Angel are all used interchangeably. Remember what we are referring to in this Book are the Archangel(s) that attended your birth. All Angels, whatever you wish to call them, have a guidance, assistance, comforting and teaching role, and it is in this area that you will be working with. You may wish to work initially with a particular Archangel who is not your Birth Archangel. This does not conflict with any Kabbalistic Law, you are free to choose which Archangel or Archangels you wish to work with. However, you do have a natural affinity to your Birth Archangels and it is these that you are recommended to work with before progressing to any of the other Archangels. Finally, this book was not produced with the objective of exploring the history of Angels, it is a pure magickal workbook, intended to not only a stand-alone work book or as part of an initiation path if required by the reader..

۞ Before we discuss how you will be working with your Archangel(s) we first need to consider what we know about Angels, where have we gained our knowledge about them? It may surprise you that the Holy Books, the Hebrew Bible, Qur‘an or Tanakh do not give much information concerning the Angels that we have come to know. The Hebrew Bible mentions the Archangels Gabriel and Michael, and in the Catholic Old Testament, only the Archangel Raphael is mentioned. So where has all the angelic information, we have today, comes from? Although Angels have existed in many religions pre-dating Judaism, much of our information have been gleaned from various Religious Scholars, Philosophers, Saints, Theologians and Popes. In fact, it was Thomas Aquinas, from a Christian perspective that gave the world much Christian angelic lore, which he gained through contemplation, logical analysis and meditation. So in a nutshell much of our current knowledge about the angelic realms comes from the research of old manuscripts, philosophical pondering or just the imagination of those believers and seekers, those Christians or Jews, who were trying to make sense of the celestial realms which they wish to, understand. This process has not stopped; even today we are discovering new facts and practices about Angels, by those who have chosen to work with them. This nicely brings us to a main concern of many who wish to communicate with Angels. If the main religious works do not address Angels per say, is communication, or attempted communication with Angels against any religious law? Like many concepts in ancient lore, there is no easy answer this question. Many Christians devoutly believe that unless, (such information) is contained in the Scriptures or Church teachings, anything outside these boundaries are suspect and

This includes magic, sorcery, fortune telling, witchcraft etc. The Islamic faith also follows this Christian stance, but the actual lines, between magic, and religious experience/study, are not too clear. There is again a problem with Judaism, the blurring of lines between religious concepts and the actual study of these concepts may present problems for some. So does the study of the Angelic Kabbalah fall outside acceptable religious areas of practice, or contravene particular religious beliefs? Firstly, let‘s go back to the sources or angelic information previously discussed. There are historically two forms of information: Pseudepigraphical, work which has been attributed to a historical figure or expert. This includes the works attributed to Enoch, King Solomon and even Thomas Aquinas. The next is classed as Apocryphal, or uncanonical or those works were authorship cannot be authenticity verified, and therefore rejected for inclusion in the current Scriptures for various reasons, which in many cases is only known by the compiler of the particular religious persuasion. These Apocryphal documents naturally could have included discussions on the angelic realms and may have been excluded due to perceived irrelevance, by the scribe or non-alignment with religious thought/tradition at that time of writing. Naturally in ancient times, both forms of works would certainly have been consulted by various religious scholars under the tenet that all knowledge must be examined and considered in order to gain the truth (the truth as seen by the particular examiner of the text). Therefore the distinction between religious faith and magical knowledge again becomes extremely grey. Some Talmudic Scholars openly explored the knowledge of communication with angels and therefore this form of scholarship was not classed, at that time, as Magick, but serious religious exploration. The Jewish approach to the study of Angels was and still is flexible and open, and other than that, has probably been one of our richest sources of Angelic Lore, which by cross-fertilization, probably has also found inclusion into the Christian Bible. But this cannot be firmly verified. From a Christian perspective, Angels may be venerated and images them be placed in your home, private altar and even positioned in your garden, and from this perspective are not considered by the church to be idols, (Thou shalt not make for thyself any graven image), but they may not be worshiped. Next all religions accept that each person is guarded by at least one Angel. Angels are created by God to carry out His work, to guide humans and aid their development. Angels however, should not be worshiped, but prayed to as guardians, intercessors and helpers. They therefore carry your prayers to God, who decides as to your petitions worthiness. Finally if we consider Angels from an Islamic perspective, Angels were created by God to carry out Gods Will and help human beings to assist God in works, both in Heaven and on Earth.

Thrones Thrones, aka Erelim or Ophanim are Angels of

tremendous power and movement. They are the keepers of higher expanded energies, ensuring that these energies maintain connections and flows through the celestial realms. They appear as a beryl-coloured wheel-within-a-wheel, their rims covered with hundreds of eyes.

Dominions The Dominions, aka Hashmallim, regulate the duties of lower Angels. They appear as beautiful humans with a pair of feathered wings, and hold orbs of light fastened to the heads of their sceptres or swords.

Virtues Virtues supervise the movements of the heavenly bodies in order to ensure that the cosmos remains in

synchronization.

Powers Powers, aka Authorities, are the bearers of conscience

and the keepers of history. They also oversee the distribution of power among humankind.

Principalities Carry out the orders of the Dominions. They are

depicted wearing a crowns and carrying scepters.

Archangels The seven spirits of God that stand before the His

throne. Basically Archangels are messengers.

Angels The lowest order of the Angels who are concerned with

the affairs of living things, and also act as messengers. The Pauline Art therefore is primarily concerned with the Archangels and Angels of God. To conclude; the Scriptures speaks about the creation of angels, therefore, it is clear that they have not existed from all eternity (Nehemiah 9:6; Psalm 148:2, 5 Colossians 1:16-17 explains:

―For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created by Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.‖

Before we close this chapter, I would like to address a common concern expressed by most students of the Pauline Art, the apparent simplicity of the Magic of the Angels of Man. No psychological or mental training, no pursuit to perfect the powers of visualization, and other mental exercise which are said to assist the student in attaining the assistance of celestial beings. What many do not realise is that there are many traditions of magickal philosophy, not all are based on the same premise or knowledge.

The Pauline Art is magical tradition of an older world, a world that draws its power on the concept that the nature of magic and the powers are inherent within the universe, the power between the planets, or the web of life. This differs widely from many of today's occult traditions. For the Pauline Art, magical power is in the macrocosm; its power is the universe, not generated by mental exercises. This power is a natural force in the world, which has been in motion since the universe was created by God; its power is reflected in the stars and planets and depends upon their movements within the universe to reveal the power. These astrological relationships are not covered by the modern astrology, but by the application of traditional or hermetic astrology, as practiced during the middle ages. So the Pauline Art is a natural magick based on the power of the movement of the stars, planets and time. And it is this power, and the techniques to use this power that is this books main objective it to introduce to the reader. So let us now explore the secrets of the Archangel Gabriel, or the Archangel of the Moon. If the Archangel Gabriel is not either your Sun or Moon Archangel, do not worry, you may work with whatever Archangel you wish. Naturally if you have a birth association, the bond to the Archangel will be much stronger.

Chapter 2 - THE MAGICK OF THE ANGELS OF MEN – THE ANGELIC KABBALAH

“ The God before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac walked, the God who shepards me from my beginning to this day, the angel who as my kinsman saves me from all evil ….” (Genesis, Chapter 48)

The main principles of this Angelic Kabbalah has been neglected for many years. There are only a few practitioners today keeping the practice alive, and it is therefore the intention of this work to present these secrets to those who wish to follow, and practice this ancient esoteric wisdom. The Angelic Kabbalah, also referred to as the Pauline Art, is an ancient system of ritual Magick, performed with the intention of contacting and communing with one‘s own and other Archangel(s). A multiple indication is used here as most of us have two Archangels; a fact also taught by Islamic teachings, on the other hand the Christian Church states that each of us only has a single Guardian Angel. A belief not accepted by the Pauline Art.

Practitioners in the Renaissance period believed that Angel Magic was among the oldest forms of worship. The Renaissance Physician, Alchemist, Astrologer, and Occultist, Paracelsus in his Archidoxes of Magic stated that, "Conjurations ... had their original spring and fountain from Babylon; and there did mightily increase and flourish, afterwards it came into Egypt, and from thence to the Israelites, and last of all, to us Christians." (1656:36) G James in his excellent book Ancient Art of Summoning and Communicating with Angelic Beings indicated that the earliest recorded Angel Magic rituals in existence today were composed in ancient Chaldea around 3000 B.C., and later recorded on stone tablets. As old as these incantations are, they contain many elements that are found in the medieval Angelic Grimoires (1997:25):

The seven gods of the vast heavens, The seven gods of the great earth, The seven gods of the igneous spheres, The seven gods, these are the seven gods.

Ancient practitioners therefore indicated that we each have two Archangels; and this is this is the backbone of the Pauline Art over other magickal traditions. According to Cornelius Agrippa, a practitioner of the Angelic Kabbalah, one represents your Sun Angel and the other your Moon Angel, and it is these Archangels that you may work with, if you choose to. Remember you may work with all the Archangels not only your Birth Angels. The ancient Egyptians also believed that the Angels, who they referred to as Gods, could be controlled by invoking the power of the names of greater Archangels. They also believed that by the practice of Angelic Magic the practitioner could attain near-divine status through certain rituals and prayers.

As the knowledge of Angels developed, it became increasingly important for continued spiritual development to be able to commune with your Archangel. Some would say that this move in tradition sidelined God to some extent! However, the corner stone of this ancient Angelic Kabbalah is the fact that there is only One God, the Creator, who sub-divided His powers into many Archangels, Angels and lesser Angels. For our Solar System, He appointed to each planet, an Archangel, with other Angels who govern the zodiacal divisions of each Astrological sign. In simple terms, Angelic Kabbalah teaches that the Universe is one, linked together, until ―As above - So below‖ From the lowest to the highest, all in one interwoven spiritual and celestial web. The Creators master plan is that man, in time, would become a fully spiritual, mental and physically evolved human, were he would develop his soul through reincarnation, ultimately he would know the secrets of all the Archangels and the be re-absorbed back into the Garden of Eden. To achieve this evolutionary step and spiritual leap, man was to be instructed by that persons Sun, Moon Birth Archangels.

Man was come under the influence of each Archangel in turn, via his reincarnations, and through this experience, gain wisdom on how these planets influenced their lives and destinies. But, in order to use this wisdom man must first be sufficiently spiritually evolved, in order to exercise the Creators greatest gift of all, Freewill. Freewill gives you choice; this is the choice that Eve had in the Garden of Eden, and the Angels of the Fall. From an angelic perspective, you, as a developing spiritual being may be under the absolute rulership of some planets, by your birth, but freewill gives you the opportunity to influence your own destiny and partially break free from the planetary influences and Karmic debit to some extent. You will never totally be free of the influences of the planets (or Karma), but your Archangels will give you the power to reduce any negative influences, and therefore assist you to continue to develop and advance. So to those who are spiritually ready, the Angels will reveal their secrets. The Angelic Kabbalah, has existed since the time of ancients, the dawn of man, and was greatly influenced over the years by such cultural traditions as Iranian, Egyptian and Greek. For many practitioners of Angelic Kabbalah this esoteric knowledge was first introduced to man by the ‗Watchers‘. Those Archangels identified as a pre-dynastic race of demi-gods called the Followers of Horus. (Jackson & Howard 2003: 6). These Watchers are also referred to in some ancient manuscripts as ‗Lords of the Flame‘, which is not surprising as all Angels were formed from fire by God. Remember it is the Archangels role to assist mans development; their power has been available to man for all time, but only to those who acknowledge and use it. Many readers have difficulty in aligning the term Angelic Kabbalah and a related term, the Pauline Art.

From a traditional perspective the Pauline Art was adopted following the publication of the Key of Solomon, The Pauline Art, Book III of the Lemegeton. Translated from manuscripts discovered in the British Museum by S. L. MacGregor Mathers and it is this, and other ancient manuscripts that much Angelic Kabbalah is drawn. Even before the Lemegeton was published, the Bible makes reference to the Apostle Paul‘s ascension to the Third Heaven as described in Corinthians. The journey Paul made is described, as a realm which is beyond the sight of humans. It is the dwelling place of God and His attendant heavenly beings, Archangels and Angels.

― … Paul the Apostle stated "that he was caught up by an Angel, and ascended as far as the second and third heaven into paradise itself; and that he beheld sights and heard unspeakable words which it would not be possible for man to declare…." (2 Corinthians: 12-2)

Unspeakable words? those words which Paul had never heard before, was the language of the Angels, to be discussed in Chapter 8.

“….revelation of the holy Apostle Paul: the things which were revealed to him when he went up even to the third heaven, and was caught up into paradise, and heard unspeakable words. Suppose one of the Apostles to have understood the "unspeakable words which it is not lawful for a man to utter ……" (2 Corinthians: 12.4)

This one Apostle would again be Paul, who eventually understand the unspeakable words, and it is this knowledge that would eventually become known as The Pauline Art (Paul's Art) - The Angelic Kabbalah.

“…- thereby teaching us that greatness has its proofs in lowliness, just as (according to the Apostle) there is power even in infirmity…” (2 Corinthians: 12.5)

Greatness can be achieved by man (lowliness) the infirmity (Angelic realm) holds the power to achieve this greatness.

“.. But there is a great difference between these two ways. For over one are stationed the light-bringing Angels of God, but over the other the Angels….” (2 Corinthians: 12.7)

The Light-Bringing Angels of God are the Archangel Lumiel, Archangel of the Earth (Jackson & Howard 2003: 261) and the Archangel Gabriel, who has domain over the ebb and flow of Magickal power which is magnified through the Moon, the Moon's light. It is your Archangels role, together with Lumiel and Gabriel, to teach man the secrets of the ancient Kabbalah. Paul experienced this teaching as a ‗blinding light of truth‘ or the Light of the Angels. As far as the other Heavens are concerned, the First Heaven represents the physical world that all people can see, our physical environment. The Second Heaven is composed of water, the great sea that divides the Earth from the heavenly beings.

God appointed to each planet, in our solar system, an Archangel, with other Angels for the Zodiacal divisions and each Astrological birth sign. It was the responsibility of these Archangels to communicate with man and instruct him that the universe is simply one vast web which links the lowest form life to the highest, and it is through these links that Magick works. For Christians, the belief in Angels draws directly on the words of Jesus:

“.. see that you do not despise one of these little ones; because I tell you that in heaven their angels always behold the face of my Father who is in Heaven’ (Matthew 18: 10).

As you will learn, it is these Archangels and their important teachings that they will communicate to you in future. If you have studied other occult traditions the Pauline Art it may appear familiar to you. This is because there is nothing really secret in the occult arts, practices and beliefs flow freely between traditions, and some accepted as part of the norm for that tradition, or modified to suit. As an example Alexandrian witchcraft has adopted some elements of Angelic Magic. There is nothing wrong in this; the important thing is that the Angelic wisdom is being disseminated to all. The Pauline Art aims to give its practitioner‘s firstly knowledge, then the confidence to put this knowledge into practice, through its rituals or petitions, or even meditations. You have the path to become the best you can, ad whilst on this path you will receive guidance and the protection of your Archangels. To summarise; All persons have two Birth Angels, an Archangel who represents your sun sign at the time of your birth. Your second Archangel is taken from the position of the Moon also at the time of your birth, and must be discovered by consulting an Ephemeris. So your second Moon Birth Angel will not normally be the same as your Sun Birth Angel, but it is not impossible depending upon the time or hour of your birth. Therefore your Moon Angel, once calculated, may be any of the Traditional Archangels of the Pauline Art:

Next you also have a further Archangel, the one present on the day of your birth. 1. The Archangel of the day of your birth:

Finally, the Archangel of the hour of your birth. 2. The Angel of the hour of your birth: If you do not know your birth time consult the Table of Hours in the appendices. This calculation may prove a little tricky as you will also need to now the sunrise and setting times on that day. As an example if you where born on the 2nd March 1950 in Manchester, the sun rose at 6.55am and set a 17.48pm. You would then commence to calculate the day and night hours to find you Archangels name. It is very important to remember that when working with an Archangel you can only request help, assistance or guidance with those things that he governs. You cannot request assistance with those things, or rulerships, that other Archangels govern. In summary, naturally, your affinity is to your Sun and Moon Archangels. Yes you do have an affinity to your Day and Hour Archangels but these alignments are not as strong.

Islamic tradition. Michael means "who is like unto God", or ―the strength of God‖ and sometime ―perfect God‖. In Arabic Michael is Mikail and in the Bible and the Qur’an; Mikhail.

The Archangel Michael is without doubt the most prominent angel found in Christian Bible and Jewish literature. He is mentioned in the Jewish Book of Daniel, the Christian Book of Jude, and Book of Revelation. In the Book of Daniel (10: 13) he is mentioned as one of the Chief ‗Princes‘ of the heavenly host, and the Guardian Angel of Israel or the ‗Prince of Israel‘ who instructed Moses. Some practitioners state that the Archangel Michael is the Chief of the hierarchy of Angels called the Virtues and the Archangels. He is depicted as a warrior-prince leading the celestial armies against wicked forces, and in Christian tradition he is the Archangel with the sword. In the war in Heaven, Michael was the Archangel who cast the rebellious Satan after defeating him. "And there was a great battle in heaven, Michael and his angels fought with the dragon." (Jude 9; Revelation 12:7), and so he is invoked especially for protection against the Devil. In this role he is St George, who killed the dragon and was adopted as the patron Saint of England, and of warriors, the police, sailors, soldiers and some say grocers!

To Christians, the Archangel Michael is the angel who informed Mary of her approaching death. He also appeared to Moses, as an angel appearing from the burning bush, through which God spoke to Moses, following his escape into the dessert after killing of an Egyptian.

Michael appears with God in the seventh heaven and appears as the glory of the God in the third heaven, his dominion is in the fourth Heaven (Machanon or Machen). The gates of the Fourth Heaven can only be opened by Michael and according to Talmud Hagiga 12, is the site of the Heavenly Jerusalem. In Islam the Archangels Michael, Gabriel and Allah‘s throne bearers symbolically mean a lion, an eagle, a bull, and a man. Called Mikaaiyl in the Islamic tradition, it is Michael who provides nourishments for bodies and souls. Traditionally Michael is seen as the second Archangel to Gabriel. For When God is creating Adam He sends first Gabriel and then Michael to fetch the clay out of which man is to be formed.

Chapter 4 - MICHAEL: HIS POWERS & CORRESPONDENCES

One of the most important of all duties of Angels, so much so that the very Hebrew word mal'akh and Greek word Angelos, denoting these beings, mean "messenger." This can also be interpreted as teacher or instructor. The Angel stands as one of the central intermediaries or representatives of God to humanity and is important to His Divine plan.

Existing entirely at the will and in the service of God, Angels are frequently dispatched to Earth to deliver some important revelation or declaration; he also has his own place and duties through his rulership over the planets.

Whilst Angels have many other duties in tradition, both in Heaven and on Earth, their role as messenger/teacher is still one central to their existence, serving to remind us that God loves all of his creations and is concerned about their well-being, development and ability to advance.

The Archangel Michael is associated with the colours gold and orange. His vibrations also are attuned to the metal gold and brass because of its gold colour when shiny, the flowers; angelica, acacia, bay, buttercup, sunflower, marigold, and hops. Perfumes include; frankincense, heliotrope, laurel, acacia, ambergris, balsam, and red sandalwood. His jewels are diamond, amber, crystal quartz, topaz and tiger's Eye. Michael rules Sunday, but also works well with the Archangels Samael (Tuesday), Raphael (Wednesday), Gabriel (Monday, and Anael (Friday) so only work on Sundays and those indicated on those indicated Archangels days. Do not perform any works on the days of Cassiel and Uriel, their day; Saturday.

It is important to note that as Michael rules Sunday and it is advisable to perform His rituals during the hours of daylight if possible.

He rules all matters of ambition, helps to obtain favours from people in power, the government. The body‘s development, diseases of the heart, spine, back, muscles and matters of music. Michael is associated with Egyptian Gods Ra and Osiris, the Greek God Apollo, and was adopted as the patron Saint of the Knights Templar‘s. In some traditions it is thought that each person is a reflection of an Angel. At birth, the soul, separates from your Archangel and enters you at birth. The soul then spends its incarnation in your body seeking to be reunited with its angelic self and to return to higher light. This is one of the task of the the Archangel Gabriel who will guide and lift the darkness so your soul may see the light and continue your journey back to Angelhood.

Chapter 5 - THE LUNAR CYCLE (& SUN CYCLE)

Many esoteric traditions use the inherent power of the Moon, and/or the Moon‘s phases to add power to invocational rituals. The reason is simple the invocational power is focused through the cycles of the Moon, for it has been long known that Moon‘s phases have an influence on many aspects of our lives. From earliest times the Moon, revolving in the heavens, from the New Moon to horned, brightly shining Full Moon, has been the most reliable emblem of growth. And from ancient times man has naturally aligned his life and welfare with the Moons phases. This tradition was adopted with the intention of increasing yield and success, and the same principle should be applied to your Magickal petitions. The Archangel Gabriel rules the Moon and therefore has a small influence on the outcome of your requests, but only through the Moons cycles. A important Magickal text, not fully available in English yet, is the Picatrix or Ghayat al Hikam: which gives the following advise to the aspiring magician:

“… if you find the Moon increasing in light then her strength and power is good and useful in all works to bring about increase and if you find the light [of the Moon] diminishing it is suitable and harmonious for all works in which you wish diminution. …” (William Kiesel, 2002:80)

The New Moon therefore marks the start of the Lunar Cycle which ends at slightly varying intervals approximately 28 days in length, a Lunar month. During this time the Moon travels once round the Earth. The revolution once again starts the cycle where the Moon is in the same position, relative to the Sun and the Earth. When this occurs the light of the Moon is generated by reflecting the Sun's light. At a New Moon the dark side faces the Earth, as the planet it is roughly positioned between the Earth and the Sun and the planet is invisible in the sky. As the Moon waxes, or grows, more of the sunlit side comes into view, until at the Full Moon, when the Moon is at the far side of the Earth from the Sun; the whole of the planets sunlit surface is visible. The Archangel Gabriel, teaches that the period from New to Full Moon (the waxing, increasing or generative phase) is the period called the 'Light of the Moon' and the period from Full to New (the waning, wasting or decrease) is the 'Decrease of the Moon', when things shrivel and die. This basic law applies to all invocational rituals regardless of who, or which Archangel you are working with. During the phase known as ‗Dark of the Moon‘ between the Last Quarter and the New Moon, not to be confused with the ‗Decrease of the Moon‘ NO invocations should be practised, as this is a period of when no invocation will come true as the power of the Moon is stagnant. Before you start formulating your petitions to your Archangel consider this important fact that no Magickal act can give you anything that you have not earned either in this life, or in one of your previous incarnations. However, when you do need a miracle, one will happen, for the Angels will never ignore those who believe in them and actively practising their ancient art.

As you progress, if you wish that is, along the Angelic paths, all your studies and practices are generating a firm angelic bond, which you can call upon when you really need your Archangels assistance and guidance. So to summarise, all Magickal rituals can be covered by the following two intentions:

Requests in which you wish to obtain gains or improvement. As an example, help to dispense justice, or problems concerning the self and protection.

Requests to expel a particular obstacle or situation, defeating an adversary who is affecting your life.

As Magickal power is driven by the particular phase of the Moon we need to fit the two Magickal intentions, indicated above, into the related Moons phases. These are: Moons Quarter 1. From the first day of the New Moon to the First

Quarter. Moons Quarter 2. From the First Quarter to the first day of the Full Moon. Moons Quarter 3. From the second day of the Full Moon to the Third

Quarter. Moons Quarter 4. From the Third Quarter to the Full Moon. (Dark of the Moon) Refer to the Archangels & Angels website for the Table of Moon‘s phases or any good Ephemeris or Diary, where the Moons phases may be found. The most important of the Moons phases are therefore:

The night of the New Moon to first day of the Full Moon, to make things flourish. (1 & 2 above)

Second day of Full Moon to last day of the beginning of the Last Quarter, to make things pass away. (3 above).

To give Maximum power to your petitions, ensure that you perform your rituals during the Moons Quarters 1 and Quarter 3, as indicated.

It is also important to note that during the Moons cycle there is a phase which you should not practice any Magickal activities at all. This falls on the days between the Last Quarter of the Moon and the beginning of the New Moon (Q4 above), this is called ‗The Dark of the Moon‘, which was referred to earlier. No ritual will work as expected during this period. It is NOT advisable to Invoke or Expel during the ‗Dark of the Moon‘.

Henry Cornelius Agrippa, a 15th Century magician, understood the principles of Moon Magick when he stated

"...but the Moon, the nearest to the heavenly influences, by the swiftness of her course, is joined to the Sun, and the other planets and stars, as a conception, bringing them forth to the inferior world, as being next to itself, for all the stars have influence on it, being the last receiver, which afterwards communicates the influence of all superiors to these inferiors, and pours them forth upon the Earth..."

One final secret, which is rarely addressed in other books on the Angelic Kabbalah, is the influence of the hour of the day. The Moons phase is extremely important, the day of the Archangel also. But what gives your rituals true power is the time the ritual is performed, or the hour of the Archangel. To calculate the appropriate hour please refers to Appendix C. We all lead very busy lives and using the hours of the Day or Night of your particular Angel may be inconvenient, but it does give extreme power to your petition, particularly when constructing Talismans or Pentacles. You may just use the Moons phase and day if you wish, but your petition will be a little watered down. It will still work, but results will be slower to appear. Finally, the annual Astrological cycle may also be used to enhance the power of your invocations. Naturally using this period would seriously restrict your invocational practices as it only occurs once every twelve months. But try, if you can, to carry over any important rituals till the time when the Sun is in the Astrological Sign of Leo. From the Suns perspective also consider that the Sun takes one full year to move through all the Zodiac therefore, one year, or 12 months is his astrological time. So the Sun, has a similar growth and decline cycle as the Moon, but this cycle is over the 12 months and starts with the Sun growing in strength from the Winter Solstice (approximately the 21st December). He then moves through Spring Equinox (approximately the 21st March) then finally reaches his full power at the climax of the Summer Solstice (approximately the 21st June). From the Summer solstice to the Winter Solstice the Suns power is decreasing. So for all important rituals, where you wish to take advantage of the Sun power consider this annual cycle.

Do try to incorporate the power of the astrological and solstice periods in your invoking rituals when you can.

Chapter 7 - YOUR FIRST STEPS ON THE PATH OF THE ANGELS

INVOKING It is highly recommended that all students follow the invocational steps indicated below, and when mastered, you may add the information from the following chapters to your future rituals. This is because each chapter builds upon the previous and each chapters information, if applied, increases the Magickal power generated by the enhanced rituals. You can, once having practices each step, in the future confine yourself to that particular step. Remember the Pauline Art is flexible enough to suit you. Find what works for you and then stick it, embellished if you like but only within the conditions indicated in the following text. Be guided by the Archangel Michael and your Teaching Angels, you cannot come to harm.

“God therefore appointed to each planet, in our solar system, a Teaching Angel, with other Angels for the Zodiacal divisions for each Astrological birth sign. It was the responsibility of each Angel to communicate with Man and inform him that the Universe is one vast web which links the lowest form life to the highest, and it is through these links that Magick works.”

Magical power is based upon a complex web of interactions, correspondences, and the planets which respond to various mundane objects, words, shapes, actions, rituals, gems and focused intentions, wheels within wheels. Since the early cave dweller drew pictures upon cave walls, man has created Amulets, Sigils and Talismans all designed to vibrate this web by generating items of specific designs, letters and symbols. This is the essence of the Pauline Art which harnesses this vibrational link to commune with certain Archangels.

Traditionally a Pentacle or Talisman is created to attract or channel a certain form of magical energy, for a particular purpose.

In the Third Book of Occult Philosophy attributed to Agrippa and translated by Robert Turner, he (Agrippa) gives detailed instructions as to how pentacles should be formulated:

“But we now come to speak of the holy and sacred Pentacles and Sigils. Now these pentacles, are as it were certain holy signes preserving us from evil chances and events, and helping and assisting us to binde, exterminate, and drive away evil spirits, and alluring the good spirits, and reconciling them unto us. And these pentacles do consist either of Characters of the good spirits of the superiour order, or of sacred pictures of holy letters or revelations, with apt and fit versicles, which are composed either of Geometrical figures and holy names of God, according to the course and maner of many of them; or they are compounded of all of them, or very many of them mixt…(Turner 1654:13) ”

Construction of any Pentacle or Talisman must be made to represent one single purpose and intent.

You will probably think that the definition of Pentacle has a fixed meaning however, in many Magickal writings, the most common meaning is a star or five pointed symbol where each of the five points represents an element and the circle representing unity. However, it has also stood to mean an Elemental Tool of Earth, a round wooden or metal disk usually inscribed with a pentagram, often with other Magickal Signs and Symbols specific to a Magickal tradition; also it may be made of wax, paper, or parchment as a material basis for making talismans or otherwise invoking or evoking a specific force.

The sacrament of transforming wafer and wine into the body and blood of Christ in Catholicism is a Magickal act of talismanic construction. When the rite is properly conducted, the consumption of the consecrated objects does release some of its virtues into the psyche.

Many of the Pentacles relating to the Archangels have been derive, or taken from Solomonistic writings and therefore within the Pauline Art we stay true to The Key of Solomon (Clavicula Salomonis) – The Order of the Pentacles‖ and retained the term Pentacle. I have therefore stayed true to The Key of Solomon (Clavicula Salomonis) – The Order of the Pentacles‖ and retained the term Pentacle. It is not commonly known, but the application of the Archangels Pentacles relates to the position of the planets in our solar system. However the Sun Pentacle does not conform to this requirement. Why? I can only make an assumption. Practically the Sun is effectively the 5th Planet (Not really a planet, but let‘s stick to tradition). But in ancient times the practitioners of the Pauline Art, knew that the Moon was the closest to Earth, and only because of its size they thought that the Sun was second closest. So they allocated the Second Pentacle of the Sun which would be use to invoke the powers of the Archangel Michael. So now let‘s turn our attention to The Second Pentacle of the Sun, which you will use in your Sun rituals, and be used to invoke the Archangel Michael for her help and assistance. The Pentacle must be reproduced on the correct day, the day of Michael, Sunday, and during the Moons appropriate phase that links to growth and expansion. This being the first day of the New Moon to the end of the First Quarter, or the end of the second quarter if this cannot be avoided.

Therefore, any Ritual Magick, based on the tradition of the Pauline Art, needs to invoke the Archangel Michael if you wish to address issues of courage, direction, truth, integrity, and self-esteem. Petition the Archangel Michael for His help and guidance.

Take note that all Magickal symbols have evolved from three main shapes: the circle - in which the planets and their orbits are made: The trine or triangle - representing God, the Angels and Man: The star - representing locking, interweaving forces and finally the square - representing limitations. Certain combinations of these shapes have come to represent very powerful images. .

Again, write your request below the image of the Pentacle in the Passing the Rivers Script using orange or gold ink or pencil.

You can remove as many things as you want on the same night, but for each matter a new Pentacle must be drawn. The Pentacle must once again be kept, again on your person, till the next Sunday following the risen Full Moon when it can be destroyed. As a student of the Pauline Arts you will soon realise that once the Magick begins to flow, things are going to happen so fast, in the case of the Archangel Michael this will take some time, up to 12 months, from your initial invocation or petition to remove an obstacle, and so often that it will be difficult to keep track of progress by mere memory alone. The easiest way to remember all the practical expressions of your Magickal workings is to write your occult experiences in a Magickal Diary mentioned earlier. Call this notebook your Personal Magickal Diary. The entries into this diary should be time specific, this acting as a handy reminder that a certain spell will produce a certain result within a certain time. By establishing this simple recording system you will get your first inkling of the power that you are in touch with, as you see the Magickal happenings in your life recorded in your diary. Again you may expel for as many things as you wish during the Waning Moon. Just remember that you must daw a new Second Pentacle of Venus for each thing you wish the remove or expel from your life. Some practitioners of the Pauline Art, David Goddard in particular, recommend that the power of the Archangel Gabriel combined with your own individual Birth Angel(s) power (that is assuming that the Archangel Gabriel is not one of your Teaching Angels) and both Archangels‘ be invoked during the Moons phases (The Sacred Magic of the Angels. 1996:43). I do not subscribe to this practice and suggest that you do not adopt it. I do not believe that this combining of the different angelic forces within The Second Pentacle of the Sun is necessary. However, whichever Archangel you are working with, the Moons phases are extremely important and should be used when invoking or removing and obstacle, whatever Archangel you are working with. FINALLY You may invoke and remove within the same cycle. From the Archangels day, Sunday, following the risen New Moon to first day of the Full Moon you may increase for improve health. Then from the Sunday following the second day of the risen Full Moon to the first day of the First Quarter to banish undesirable conditions under the rulership of the Archangel Michael.

Chapter 8 - THE MAGICKAL SCRIPT OF MICHAEL

Passing the River Script is known as a Talismanic Script which, according to the Pauline Art tradition, was used by King Solomon. The script causes a vortex of power to be generated when you write and speak the Script.

Also known as Transitus Fluvii (Latin), or Passage Du Fleuve (French), is an occult script consisting of 22 characters first described by Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa in his Third Book of Occult Thought to be derived from Hebrew alphabet, The name. Passing the Rivers, may refer to crossing of the Euphrates by the Jews on their return from Babylon to rebuild the Temple. This is a pure angelic script designed to transmit messages between Angels and Man. This script alsohas many associations with the angelic language described in the Book of Raziel (Savedow - 2001:270.)

Like other angelic scripts, Passing the River, regardless of it's characters' placement or usage, is said to reflect the true message of it's writer only to it's intended receiver, the Archangel Anael. Passing the River is the most useful script used in traditional petitions and written prayer, because of its link between man and the angelic. Like all angelic scripts and other Hebrew variants, it may be used in any language because its meaning is carried regardless of the structure of its composure. Francis Barrett derived the alphabet from Agrippa, along with much of the magical information in Agrippa's book, and presented it in his Magus. Unfortunately Agrippa wrote nothing at all concerning Passing the Rivers. The script however has been attributed to King Solomon, who presumably spoke it to control the demons he summoned for help in building the great temple.

The script is a phonetic script where you say the words in English but visualize the script symbols in your mind as you draw them, Direction of writing: left to right in horizontal lines each angelic letter has the equivalent English letter so conversion of English into the script should not present any difficulty to the reader. Finally, each of the letters also has a corresponding number value.

Early scholars began studying Angelic wisdom shortly after Christ's death when the names of Angels were derived by rearranging and altering the Hebrew alphabet. This was continued and developed by Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa, during the 16th Century, when the ―Rivers‖ alphabet was adapted to communicate with Angels.

This may sound complicated but think back on how you learnt to read as a child you use phonetic sounds for letters i.e Cat was Kat

Try to use as little letters as possible in your requests. Spell your words phonetically, not as you would in formal English.

Remember all modern languages are really a mixture of a number of languages. English is composed of Anglo Saxon, Roman (Italian) French, German and Latin. This script is the key to communicating with your Archangel and was used by ancient priests to communicate with the Archangels, particularly the Archangel Michael. Finally, If you really cannot phrase your request in the Passing the Rivers Script, and don‘t kid yourself all request can be, then use you home language. It will not hold the same power, but I am sure the Archangel Anael will understand!

Chapter 9 - CALLING MICHAEL You are now ready to complete the actual invocation, or prayer, to the Archangel Michael. So let‘s just recap what you should have done prior to invoking the Archangel Michael: 1. Decided how you wish the Archangel Michael to help you. Refer to those things

that the Archangel rules, or is under his governance. Only request those things that are governed by the Archangel Michael, nothing that is governed by another

Archangel. 2. If you are invoking for an increase in a situation then pick the period from the Saturday night following the risen New Moon to the Saturday prior to the last day before the Full Moon (New Moon to First Quarter is preferable). 3. Chapter 11 - STONES & GEMS

Gemstones have spiritual or occult qualities that can be transferred to an individual who possesses it. In Jewish culture 12 gems could be found on the breastplate of the high priest. Each stone represented one of the 12 tribes of Israel. In early Christianity gemstones were associated with the 12 Apostles of Christ. In the book of Revelations twelve stones are once again mentioned as the foundation stones of the wall of New Jerusalem. The lore surrounding gemstones has spread to all Magickal traditions; Egyptian, Greek, Roman and Germanic cultures. Each culture have their own viewpoint about how gemstones and how they related to heavenly and earthly matters.

Michael‘s semi-precious Stones/Gems are: Diamond Tiger‘s Eye Topaz CHARGING AND CLEANSING THE STONES/GEMS. Any residual emotions that may have been transferred to the stone prior to purchase should be cleaned off. You can do this by placing the stones in a bowl of salted water, free running natural spring water, or even placing in your angelic oils for 6 days. You may also use the natural elements of sunlight, moonshine, rain, snow etc. It is not necessary but you may use the first 6 days of the New Moon cycle, starting on the following Sunday. Having cleansed the stone for 6 days, it must now be ―charged‖, so it links its natural powers to yours. The easiest way to charge a stone or gem is to hold it in your right hand and meditate on it.

On the night or day of Archangel Michael, a Sunday, following the risen New Moon. Hold

the stone in your right-hand call out Michael‘s name six times, whilst visualizing him

appearing in front of you, use your imagination. Holding this image as long as you can.

Whilst retaining the Angels image in your mind, say:

“I dedicate this stone to you Archangel Michael may it act as a bridge for our conscious and unconscious communications. As I use this ritual object in the future may it call you to my presence in joy and love.”

Once charged wrap the stone in a cloth of the colour of the Angel and store in a safe place until required. You do not have to obtain and charge all the stones of the Archangels at the same time, select your Sun and/or Moon Archangel first, then progress, over time to the other Archangels, if you wish, until you have a fully charged collection of the entire Archangels‘ stones or gems. These may be stores in their own individual coloured cloth bags.

USING MAGICKALLY CHARGED STONES/GEMS. Magickal charged stones are powerful Magickal invocational tools which can be used during your meditations and within your petition rituals.

When you have finished drawing and invoking the Archangel Michael through The Second Pentacle of the Sun, wrap the pentacle around the Archangel‘s stone. On the next Sunday following the risen New Moon remove the stone, destroy the Pentacle as normal, and wrap the stone in its cloth and put safely away until need again.

Your Magickal stone will also assist in contacting your Archangel when performing your Threshold of Light meditations. If you hold it in your right hand.

Give serious consideration in having your Archangels stone/gem made into a ring or necklace which you can wear during your rituals. By doing this you are adding your vibrations to the stones and therefore enhancing the power of your rituals.

Chapter 13 - PERSONAL SEAL OF MICHAEL

In this chapter we will explore the meanings of symbols which relate to the Archangel Michael. According to Carl Jung (Jung Man and his Symbols: 1964) a symbol must not have any definition at all. It has many levels of meaning, not just one obvious one and should represent a concept which is initially difficult to grasp intellectually in the full scope of its meaning. Symbols are therefore ideas. Whenever we use one, we are pointing to the idea behind that symbol. Symbols are fascinating, because they stir your imagination and intuition to help you discover new meanings and insights. Symbols therefore have a major impact upon the subconscious mind. Each Archangel wears a badge of office, or his Personal Seal, this may be worn on the chest or sometime on the forehead. It is the Seal of the Archangels and a very powerful image when use in requesting help and assistance. Let‘s explore Michael‘s symbolic images. Firstly associated with tarot cards

The main symbolism of the Sun Tarot is the image of the Sun itself. The wall indicates protection from outside influences, and the children represent innocence. There is no symbolism applicable to Pentagrams or Talismans contained in the card.

The are no symbols appropriate to a Pentacle, Talisman or Amulet. Except the actual card itself.

By examining known icons and painting of the Archangel Michael, we can establish a list of the most common images.

Properly speaking, the word "symbol" means " a sign that expresses an idea", while the word "sign" means "a picture expressing an action‖.

The Archangel Michael rules only one Zodiac sign, Leo.

Leo (♌) is the fifth astrological sign of the Zodiac, originating from the constellation of Leo. In astrology, Leo is considered to be a "masculine", positive (extrovert) sign. It is also considered a fire sign and is one of four fixed signs ruled by the Sun.

Archangel Michael will announce his presence by using one or more of his own signs and symbols. These can be found in the Archangel Michael‘s Table of Correspondences. As an example unexpected incidents involving; oranges, bees, yellow butterflies, diamonds, lions etc. Watch out for any of these signs, which may appear unexpectedly. The symbols indicated above may also be added to your Second Pentacle of the Sun, but placed outside the main image of the Pentacle in any pleasing position. Do not add these symbols to any emergency Angelic Signatures you may produce.

Chapter 15 - OTHER RELATED TALISMANS AND PENTACLES

All religions have one or a number of some power symbols or object that offers a measurable benefit to the true believer. Easily the most widespread of these mystical objects is the pentacle or talisman, and many of the religions in human history has offered adherents objects which purport to do anything from causing love between two people to attracting riches.

You won't find many people who haven't owned some sort of religious image at sometime in their life, consider the St Christopher Medal, which supposedly offers some Magickal or religious benefit, in the case of the St Christopher, safety during travels. The talisman (medal) is usually a small object, often made from metal, which has an image, words or symbols inscribed on the metal, designed to accomplish some specific purpose. Talismans are often worn on the body, in the form of a medal, a ring or amulet.

Talismans today still feature sacred symbols which include the three basic shapes pentagrams, hexagrams, squares and circles. Some include Hebrew letters, unintelligible letters or secret alphabets.

A pure Talisman must also be Magickally charged with energy; basically a link must be established with the energy you wish to work with, as previously indicated

Below are various talismans attributed to the Archangel Michael or the Sun. Those that are suitable for inclusion in the rites and rituals of the Pauline Art are indicated. Those which are not are presented here for private experimentation by the student.

MAGICKAL SQUARE OF THE SUN.

A Magick Square (Kamea in Hebrew) is an array of an equal number of rows and columns containing numbers which are arranged so that the sum of any row is also equal to the sum of any column in that square. Additionally, the sum of either of the two diagonals of the square also equals the sum of either a row or column in the square. Magick squares have been esteemed for their Magickal and mathematical properties for thousands of years in China, India, and the Middle East.

It is interesting to note that the Magick Square can also be used to design your own personal sigils, such as your name or the name of the Archangel you are working with. As an example the traditional Sigil of the Archangel Michael drawn from the Magickal Square as given in Barret‘s Magus may be used in your Magickal invocations. So as an example let‘s generate a name from the Magick Square, let‘s use John. But before we do this we have to convert the name into its numerological equivalent by using the table below:

INTELLIGENCE AND SPIRIT. God gave the seal of ideas to his servants the Intelligence's (also referred to as Celestial Intelligences), who traditionally been accepted as good spirits. In effect the Intelligences are Angels who are under the dominion of the Archangel of a particular planet. According to Agrippa, Third Book page 29 “(An) Intelligence is an intelligible substance, free from all gross and putrefying mass of a body, immortal, insensible, assisting all, having influence over all; and the nature of all intelligences, spirits, and Angels is the same.” Therefore Intelligence's are the planetary presiding good Angels that are set over the planets under the guidance of the Archangel. As Agrippa puts it, “The celestial intelligence's do next follow these in the second order, which they call worldly Angels…” Planetary Spirits on the other hand, who are sometimes referred to as demons, should never have their sigils inscribed onto any talisman you may decide to construct, unless you fully understand what you are doing and take the necessary precaution of balancing the Spirits sigil with the Intelligence's sigil. If in doubt do not explore this avenue of talisman construction.

Intelligence's are under the dominion of the planetary archangels of the seven traditional planets, who have knowledge over the particular aspect of the planet. Closely associated with talismanic magic, they may be summoned by the magician to achieve certain requests that are within their particular power. They therefore have a degree of intelligence of their own, and can be called upon independently of the planetary archangels. They may be used as teachers, requested to supply information or assistance in obtaining those areas the planet has rulership over. Naturally, they are subservient to the planetary Archangels, but work with and through the Archangels to accomplice the magician‘s requests.

Planetary Spirits on the other hand, who are sometimes referred to as demons, should never have their sigils inscribed onto any talisman you may decide to construct, unless you fully understand what you are doing and take the necessary precaution of balancing the Spirits sigil with the Intelligences sigil.

Chapter 16 - OLYMPIAN SPIRITS OF THE SUN

The Arbatel of Magick, published at Basle in 1575 and translated by Robert Turner, 1655, was originally written in Latin and believed to be of Christian origin produced in Italy by an unknown author, and is one of the lesser known Grimoires of Magick.

The Arbatel of Magick writes of the Olympian spirits: "They are called Olympick spirits, which do inhabit in the firmament, and in the stars of the firmament: and the office of these spirits is to declare Destinies, and to administer fatal Charms, so far forth as God pleaseth to permit them."

The interesting fact is that the Arbatel introduces for the first time the concept of Olympic Spirits who had never previously been mentioned in other Grimoire up to that date. The Olympic Spirits who under God, presides over the natural world. There are seven chief Olympic spirits, each corresponding one each of the planets of our solar system, and having under them a certain number of provinces being 196 in number which using the principle of numerology equals 7 ( 7 Olympic Spirits, 7 Planets). We are also informed that Aratron has 49 provinces; Bethor, 42; Phaleg 35; Och, 28; Hagith, 21; Ophiel, 14; and Phul, 7. Each of the Olympic spirits rules alternately for 490 years.

Och governs those things that are appointed to the Sun. According to Arthur Edward Waite in his book The Book of Black Magic, OCH prolongs life to six hundred years with perfect health, imparts great wisdom, gives excellent (familiar) spirits, composes perfect medicines, converts any substance into the purest of metals, or into precious stones, also bestows gold and a purse, quaintly described by the English translator of the ―Arbatel‖ as ―spring with gold‖. He causes the possessor of his character to be worshipped as a god by kings of the whole world. (1993:47)

So for study purposes you may regard the Olympic Spirits as being only slightly less in power than the Seven Hierarchies of Archangels.

As the Olympic Sprits are considered to be under the governance of the Planetary Archangels you may work with the spirits but only in conjunction with the Archangel.

Drawn the sigil of Och onto a piece of white or yellow paper in orange or gold ink in the hour and day of Michael, taking cognizance of the Moons phase and also write the following prayer onto the paper and then say the prayer out load:

"Great Archangel Michael I request the assistance of your Olympic Spirit Och of the Sun that he may instruct me concerning those things about which I wish to ask him. May this be achieved through your powers and the powers of the Creator. Amen."

Once you feel that your request has been register on the ether, write and speak the following prayer on to the paper below the original prayer.

Chapter 17 - ANGELIC COVERNANT

In a spiritual context, a covenant is the establishment of an alliance or agreement. Throughout history covenants have been important elements in Judaism and Christianity, and also in the practice of the Pauline Art. Personal covenants, call them commitments, abound in the Scriptures and are prominent in the Psalms. A covenant may also refer to an agreement between members of a congregation to work together according to the precepts of their religion, as in the Islamic tradition.

In Islam the Magickal evocation of angels was not performed often. It was explained to students that the Angels reside in the sphere of God presence. By summoning them necessarily to our level for a one to one communication would discomfort them and distract them from their duties. This is why magical evocation or calling down an angel was done only in three circumstances:

1) to enter with them into a covenant of aid and assistance, 2) to ask them to assist in extracting obedience from a more physical spirit or a jinn, 3) to ask them to assist in something or answer a question that is of grave urgency

and beyond the scope of terrestrial jinn or spirits. Shadrach and Harrison 2004:144

This is still sound advice today, meditate or invoke (pray to) you‘re Archangel as often as you wish, but do not evoke them. You do not have the power to call the Archangels to physical presence, only to request their help through prayer or invocation.

So in the Pauline Art, a covenant indicates an agreement to align oneself with the forces of a particular Archangel, usually your Sun or Moon Angel, or both, and takes the form of a written agreement, pledge or promise usually under seal between two parties especially for the performance of some action or the promise of further contact.

It is important to note that if one analyses some historical biblical covenants they may be classes as conditional or unconditional:

Conditional

Is a covenant which guarantees that the spiritual being or God will do His part when the human requirements stipulated in that covenant are met.

Unconditional Distinguished from a conditional covenant by the fact that its ultimate fulfilment is promised by spiritual being or God and depends upon that entities power and sovereignty for its fulfilment.

Covenants within the Pauline Art always fall within the unconditional class, as these are agreements, establish through the love and joy of future association with the Archangel.

And aligns with God‘s promise that the Angels are here to help and assist mankind develop and move forward spiritually.

Next calculate the time you will perform the covenant. So on a Sunday day or night following the rising of the New Moon you may use the1st or 8th Hours of the Day or 3rd or 10th hour of the Night. If you decide to use the hours of the day or night on Sunday following the night of the risen New Moon. See Appendix C and D for assistance on calculating these hours.

So by now you have collected the Flower(s) or Herb(s) governed by the Archangel Michael. You only have to obtain one or either, not all indicated above. However, if you wish to collect them all go for it. Adds more power!

Prepare a dish of blessed or consecrated water, using spring water which has had a little salt added and recite the following over it during the mixing of water and salt:

“I cleanse this salt of all negative spiritual influences and dedicated it to the Archangel Michael”

“I cleanse this water of all negative spiritual influences and dedicated it to the Archangel Michael”

By now you now know the actual Sunday when you will be performing the covenant, and the hours of Day or Night.

All that remains, in preparation is to compile your invocation. This you must do yourself, it must come from the heart and is very personal to you. It can be as long or as short as you wish. The choice of is yours. The only requirement is that it should come from you.

As an example (Not to be used):

“Great Archangel Michael as angel of my birth moon (or birth Sun – substitute the correct association) I wish to confirm my formal covenant with you and God. I humbly request that our spiritual relationship is firmly bonded and that through this bonding I receive your guidance, which will help me to learn from, and overcome life’s trials. I also wish to learn the secrets of Jupiter, which will assist me to develop and grow, until ultimately I am absorbed into the Godhead.

This I swear Michael, and seek your blessing”.

You may make a covenant with both your Moon & Sun Angels, or just one. Remember that you must use the correct correspondences for each of your Angels, because both will be different. Therefore you will have to complete a complete and new covenant for each of your Archangels.

One final requirement is that if you have to purchase flowers/herb, purchase materials to make ritual items, prepare items etc, then do these on the day of your Archangel.

Chapter 18 - ANGELIC TAROT Before we discuss the Angelic Tarot it is worth indicating that it is not unusual for some occultists to exclaim that Tarot cards where developed in Egypt, or written by the Egyptian God Thoth, as a complete and secret book of magic, but only for those that have mastered the interpretation of the symbols. It has been stated by some that they were the mystical cards of the Egyptian Pharaohs which enabled them to gain access to next world, similar to a pocket pack of the Book of the Dead. Gypsies have also been credited for invented them, and therefore responsible for distributing them all around the world. It is interesting to note that "gypsy" is considered by some to be a corrupt form of "Egyptian". And at the other extreme, some even believe that the Tarot cards are signs that have been left here by alien cultures. Although many have tried to establish the true origin of the Tarot, we are still unsure who created the first deck. Naturally, they may have developed from simple cards used to play games Through the years the idea that cards could have meaning, especially when randomly drawn, gained popular acceptance and therefore its tool as a means of divination grew. It was no until the late the early 1800's when Eliphas Levi, created the basic design to which today‘s Tarot Cards correspond. During their development Levi assigned Hebrew letters and planetary association to each of the 22 Major Arcana cards and the suits he assigned mystical representations; Swords, Disks, Wands and Cups. Some occultist began to further diverse the cards with certain powers through the symbols contained within them. It s not inconceivable to see the cards can or do represent open and presumably hidden occult symbolism and as a result the Catholic Church quickly classed the tarot as the ―the devil's picture book". Just to own a deck of Tarot cards was extremely dangerous. Even today the Catholic Church forbids any for of divination and classes it as a sin. There is certainly some truth in the interpretation of the symbols being consistent and standard across different traditions, as we thinks in symbols and over the years symbols can acquire powerful associations, think about the crucifix, and therefore have a direct influence on our conscious or subconscious mind. From the Pauline Art perspective it is not important when or where the Tarot cards originated, but the information that they contain. Clearly the images have a profound psychological impact on those that study the symbolism, call this spiritual insight if you wish.

By tradition, the development of the cards has generally been undertaken by the occult fraternity, with the inclusion of symbolic references and correspondent images. From this we can only assume that the cards do have spiritual entity links. From the Pauline Art this link is through Gods Archangels. The Tarot is but a tool and St. Paul reminds us, "We know that God makes all things work together for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His decree" (Rom 8:28).

Finally from a Christian, especially a Catholic perspective, the cards are still classed as evil. But consider this; it is human to fear what is unknown. For those who consider the cards as evil as proposed by their particular religion, realise that every religion states that if you do not believe in their particular philosophy or teaching, than you are evil in their eyes. Is it not true then that most of us must be evil, in this context, from someone else‘s philosophical perspective!

Having said that we can now turn to the cards as a bridge between yourself and you Archangels(s) in simplest terms the Tarot may be use to communicate with your Angels and the simplest way is to use the Tarot as a form of affirmation. An affirmation is a simple, easy to remember, one-line sentence, used for the purpose of establishing or reinforcing a particular characteristic or achieving a particular aim. Affirmations can be undertaken daily and may be used to bolster the power of your ritual and spells.

Examples of such affirmations are ―I am a healthy person, balanced in mind and body.‖ or ―I invite my Angel to come closer and closer every day.‖

Affirmations must always be phrased positively. You would not say ―I‘ll try not to let negative thinking get in my way‖ or ―I‘ll try to stay in balance.‖ What you SAY is what you GET.

―….. To be honest, you do need to have a close affinity with your Tarot Cards to be successful and it is recommended that you, the reader, cultivate this link. Reading the Tarot is not a simple operation, it needs more than a book of explanations detailing what the cards mean. It requires a good deal of memorising which cards link to others, and a also helps if you have fair clairvoyant abilities. No book can possibly give the full interrelationship between the cards, so this is an art which must be practised, cultivated and expanded upon each time you decide to undertake a Tarot reading. You must also have an occult link or spiritual relationship with the Cards, a situation which can only be developed if you handle the cards daily, contemplate their meaning, and understand and accept that they are you means of communicating with the Angels, your Angels.” (Frater EL 2007:32)

I support the above observations. A sincerely worded affirmation will go a long way to establishing that all important angelic alignment and when combined with the pictorial imagery of the Tarot you have an extremely powerful ritual tool to receive guidance from your Archangel(s) Imagery works on the subconscious mind and it is from your subconscious that your Archangel will reveal the way forward. This may come in the form of inspiration, or through a dream. But before we delve into the method of contact we need to establish the Tarot Cards aligned to your Archangel. Again we have adopted the work of Frater El in his private publication - Angelic Tarot- 2007, which I have found to work very well. I have however, updated some of the original situations.

Basic Requirements You will need: 1. Archangel Card 2. Situation Card 3. Two altar candles: yellow or orange. 4. Matches & Candle Taper 5. Flower or Herb ruled by your Archangel - (Optional) Preparation Of the two cards indicated above you must decide which card you wish to represent your Archangel. The choice is yours. But once selected, do not be tempted to swap between both in future Tarot rituals. Select one and keep to that selection. But how do you select one I hear you say? Again be guided by your instincts: 1. Which card appeals to you the most? 2. Which card has symbols which seem to relate to you? 3. By meditating on both, which one are you most comfortable with? Remember once selected you must retain this card as your Archangel card, so take your time to cultivate a relationship/link to the cards image and settle on the one. Regularly mediate on this card, use it in the other rituals described in previous Chapters so the card becomes imbued with ritualistic power and powerful subconscious associations. Let‘s look at the Karmic situation for this card: “You cannot break free from restrictive influences that are blocking you from manifesting your goals.” Now place the cards on the table with the Tarot card that represents your Archangel above the Situation Card.

Sitting comfortably, first concentrating on your Archangel Card, visualise the Archangel standing opposite you on the other side of the table or altar. Picture him clearly, radiating pure white energy from around his silhouette. Once this image is fixed firmly in your

mind, mentally call out to him to aid you with the matter in hand. You may also repeat what aid you need verbally as well if you wish. Now switch your attention to the Situation Card. Out-loud recite what the Karmic meaning of the card is, and how it aligns to your matter in hand. Be as verbal as you like, but try to capture the true situation and how this is restricting you. Mentally visualise this matter/burden as a dark cloud, of no particular colour (I prefer to visualise a grey cloud), surrounding your body, see the cloud pulsing and swirling, now call upon your Archangel to assist in removing or improving the matter, and affirm to your Archangel that you are willing to learn from the process. Visualise the cloud rising up and away from your body, at the same time the cloud becoming lighter and lighter in colour till it is transforms itself into a pure white light as it rises above your head. Retain the image of the pure white light above your head and thank your Archangel for his assistance, guidance and advice. Sit and mediate on the pure white light for a while, you will know when to stop. When you feel comfortable let the light lower itself over you so you are engulfed in the brilliant white light. Once covered by the light and you cannot see your body outline because of the brightness of the light, return to normal consciousness by tapping on your table or altar six times loudly. Snuff out, do not pinch with your fingers, the candles and place away your Tarot Cards. You may make a simple snuffer by forming a cone with some kitchen foil. For the next couple of hours you should feel invigorated, but at the same time calm and relaxed. From now on you should now adopt a positive attitude to the matter and firmly believe that it is beginning to be removed. Finally, it would be beneficial if this Tarot ritual was performed every six days until you can see positive results manifesting. But do not perform during the Dark of the Moon, wait for this phase to pass and re-commence your ritual nine days after the end of the Dark of the Moon, The Full Moon to New Moon. See Chapter 5 This is a simple but extremely effective ritual. You can perform it at any time providing your first ritual is performed on a Saturday following the risen New Moon, or any Saturday up to the Full Moon. The physical, spiritual and mental linking to your selected Archangel Card is very important as it gives you a magical tool where direct communicated with your Archangel is possible. The Archangel Card may also be incorporated in all the rituals indicated in the Book.

But note, do not use the Archangel card as a quick and easy telephone. By using the Archangel Card in this manner you are indicating to your Archangel that you are lazy and will always take the easy route. Remember all things that happen in life, happen for a reason, as all is linked and interwoven. These trials are presented to you so you may learn from them. Once you have learned the situation will steadily improve. If you do not wish to tackle situation head on and willing to apply effort, consideration and action, your Archangel will withdraw assistance, until you have learned this important lesson. ―Magic requires effort.‖

The Book of Psalms is the longest book in the Bible, and arguably the most magical. The one hundred and fifty Psalms have been used as the basis of amulets and for magical assistance for many centuries, with evidence of their use for apotropaic, healing and coercive magic dating back at least as far as the third century CE. (Rankine and Barron, 2010:11) Psalms are the texts included in the biblical Book of Psalms, and are sacred songs; a poetical composition for use in the praise or worship of God.

Many Psalms have hidden power and may be used to request assistance from God via His Archangels.

They can be used as stand alone petitions in moments of stress and trouble, or part of your Threshold of Light exercise. But never as part of your Invoking or Expel Rituals. They are prayers to God, which the Archangels will carry to Him, so you are not performing anything out of the ordinary, and each indicated Psalm listed below has a relationship to your Archangel. You will notice that the Psalms cover quite wide situations or needs and therefore can only be considered as petitions that are only suitable in moments of deep doubt and need , or as part of a meditation (Threshold of Light) regime.

The Psalms are taken from the Hebrew Bible, also called Hebrew Scriptures, Old Testament, or Tanakh. The Psalms begins the third and last section of the biblical canon, known as the Writings (Hebrew Ketuvim). In its present form, the book of Psalms consists of 150 poems divided into five books (1–41, 42–72, 73–89, 90–106, 107–150), of which the following have been taken.

Fixed Stars are celestial objects that do not seem to move in relation to the other stars in the night sky. Naturally we know that all celestial objects are moving, in the case of Fixed Stars this movement is extremely slow.

It was the Elizabethan astrologer, William Lilly, who initially identified about fifty fixed stars in his horary delineations. He proposed that these will have an influence when in conjunction, opposition, square or parallel aspect with a planet, or significant point in the horoscope. They are particularly important when in the Ascendant or Angles at birth, or when near the Sun or Moon.

Although Fixed Stars are related to your Astrological sign of Leo, they only partially under the governance of the Archangel Michael and therefore will not have any major influence over your spiritual progress unless you decide to tread the full path of this Angelic Art. In which case it is only the Fixed Stars of your Sun or Moon signs that may affect you. Knowing this information, you may see a parallel to a current situation, if so you can seek the assistance of Michael to help you through any negative phases of your development, which may be caused by an unfortunate Fixed Star. Also note that we only present the Fixed Stars which may have the most influence over you.

Leo Regulus – a variable influence depending upon the occult students

According to Ptolemy it is of the nature of Mars and Jupiter, but most later authors liken it to Mars only, while Alvidas states that it is similar to the Sun in good aspect to Uranus. Cornelius Agrippa in his Three Books of Occult Philosophy uses fixed star images and information attributed to Hermes Trismegistus. The "practical" Hermetica of astrology, magic and alchemy, are inextricably linked with the philosophical Hermetica and provide preparatory studies for Hermeticism as Practical Path to Gnosis.

Appendix B - Warning on the use of Magickal Oils, Incense and Essential Oils. MAGICKAL OIL The use of Magickal Oil does not hold any Magickal dangers, however, you may have a alleggic skin reaction to the oil itself, or the ingredients in the oil, so it is highly recommended that you test the oil, prior to using it in any ritual work. Note, do not let oil enter your eyes! Even though you may have tested it on your skin!

There are two cautions; Firstly, it is possible for you to have an allergic reaction to the oil, or its ingredients. As you will be anointing yourself with the oil, test it on your skin in a small patch before using it, to ensure you won't have a skin reaction. Some people have had reactions to oils, not specifically the Angelic Oils, we point out, but other common oils which have resulted in skin irritation. Let you not become a victim of any skin irritation.

Secondly, if you anoint paper/objects with your oil please be aware that they may stain, leave oily residues and greasy marks on whatever you put them on. Keep this in mind if you decide to use the Magickal Oil for any other purpose than indicated in this book. Be sure you don't ruin anything precious or irreplaceable.

INCENSE

When using incense, you must remember it is natural for the substances used in the compounding of the incense mixture, to give off large amounts of smoke. Naturally this will vary with the particular mixtures ingredients.

We all know that excessive exposure to smoke, in all its forms, it is not ideal from a health perspective, and incense smoke is no exception. Is there a danger? We cannot say for certain, however we do recommend that you take some precautions when burning your incense mixtures.

We highly recommend that you limit your exposure to excessive incense smoke as much as possible. You can do this by a number of means:

1. Do not burn excessive amounts of incense during your rituals. Billowing smoke may look dramatic but will not impress the Archangels you are working with.

2. Ensure your place of working is well ventilated as much as possible. We all realize that during a typical UK winter this would probably be very uncomfortable.

3. Ensure you only buy your incense (non-combustible type) from a reliable suppliers/manufacturers who use only 100% natural ingredients and you know what these are (unnecessary additives and chemicals should be avoided).

4. If you are not happy with using incense at all, then don't use it. Try using essential oils warmed over a low heat burner, as a replacement for incense.

ESSENTIAL OILS.

Essential oils, a much stronger and highly concentrated form of oil, may also be an irritant and generate an allergic reaction. Again test a little of the oil on your skin to test for your sensitivity prior to using the oil during a particular ceremony. If you are using essential oils in a ritual, e.g. anointing a talisman, and do not wish to have skin contact with the oil use a small natural hair brush/cotton bud to apply the oil. Again, if you are using oil instead of incense do not pour the oil directly onto the coals, use a dropper or small spoon, to put the oil onto the coals, carefully. Any implements that may be used to apply the essential oil must be clean and/or new.

Appendix C - Calculation of Hours of the Day & Night. - Traditional Angelic Hours

From The Magus – Francis Barrett

Depending upon the season the actual hours of daylight vary, therefore in order to calculate the correct hour you must take sunrise and sunset time to establish total minutes of daylight, and then divide by 12, this will give you how many minutes are in each hour of daylight. From that information you can calculate when each hour starts and how long it lasts for. You do exactly the same for the night hours, except you need to calculate the total time between sunset and sunrise, again dividing by 12 to calculate the minutes in the hour. Let‘s complete an example calculation. Say you wanted to work within the angel‘s hours, for a ritual dedicated to the Archangel Michael. From the Archangels correspondences you will see that Sunday is the day of the Sun, the planet of the Archangel Michael.

You wish to perform the ritual the coming Saturday, during the Hours of the Day.

1. From an Almanac you see the sun rises at 7am on that day and sets alt 8.48pm. 2. Calculating the hours of daylight: 7.00am till 8.48pm is 13 hours, 48 minutes. 3. Next calculate: 13 x 60 + 48 = 828 minutes of daylight. 4. Next divide by 12 = 69. The number of minutes in a daylight hour is therefore 69 minutes long. 5. Consulting the above table you will see that the first and eighth hour of Sunday is ruled by the Archangel Michael. 6. For the first hour of the day the ritual should be performed between 7.00am and 8.09am, which is 69 minutes. 7. For the eighth hour further calculation is needed:

- Add together the "hour" length for 7 "hours" (7 x 69 483 minutes, or 8 hours and 3 minutes). - Then add this to the sunrise time (7:00am) + 8 hours and 3 minutes = 3:03pm. - This means the eighth hour starts at 3:03pm and finishes at 4:12pm - 3:03 +

69 minutes.
