Director's Note: This adaptation was commissioned by the Royal Exchange Theatre Company, Manchester, England in 1992 and performed for the first time in Manchester in February 1993. The Royal Exchange gave La Mama/U

of R permission to do the second production of the play. The technical aspect of the production has been carried out by the cast with the help of English 303 (International Theater Project). The production premieres in Moscow at the

Moscow Arts Theatre on 23 September, in New York at La Mama Annex on 4

November, and at Todd Theater, University of Rochester, on 18 November.
