Admin Sam Satriano is back from maternity leave. Jane Chang is still with us in admin working on procedure manuals. Sandra Tovell turned 21 in October and her mum surprised her by taking her to swim with the sharks at Seaworld (She survived). Sales 2009 is a year many people would like to forget. Most of our customers had a tough time just staying afloat and new trucks were the last thing on operator’s minds. Out of our top 15 customers, they bought 3 new trucks between them. We are sure we have turned the corner and our order bank is looking the best it had for a long time. Service Lexie Burton, Jamey Irwin and Chris Chalmers have all been working here for ten years this year, well done! John Fawcett married Emily on the 26th September 2009 and Ryan Date married Paula on the 17th October. We wish them all the best for their future together. We have had a few new people arrive at Brisbane this quarter, Welcome to Brown and Hurley: Mark Crawford - Mechanic, Ryan Sullivan - Mechanic. Dmitry Nesterenko - Mechanic, Chris Kohl – Mechanic (moved here from Canada!!!) and Jim Armstrong – Service admin We have also had a few staff that transferred to different branches: Transferred to Toowoomba: Tony Costello and Troy Lord Transferred to Yatala: Brenden Fuller We wish them all the best. Sadly Dean Douglas is leaving, he is moving back to Melbourne after 9 years with Brown and Hurley. Good Luck Dean! Congratulations to Peter Crossley who was a finalist in the recent CVIAQ Apprentice of the year awards held in Brisbane. Parts Rick Mancini has been working with us for 15 years now. Malcolm Toop and Jesse Smith from Paccar Parts were here during November and conducted a Trailer Parts Training Course for the Spare Parts Department. The course was very informative and welcomed by everyone who attended. Jamie Muldoon and his partner Karen have announced their engagement, congratulations to them both. They are planning on getting mar-ried next year on 10/10/10. Brian Pitkin was racing around on Simon Hoskin’s go kart at the local track one night after work with Mark Mancini tagging along, but as per usual Brian had to go one better than the other boys and on one flying lap he clipped a tyre wall and flipped it completely over getting tossed out onto the track like a rag doll landing on his backside, ending up with a bit of bark off in all places. What made it more spectacular is at the time Brian was wearing a Helmet Cam and got everything on film. Makes great viewing. Mark Mancini was “dragged” along to the Britney Spears concert at The Entertainment Centre during her Brisbane tour by his wife Karren, Mark said he really didn’t want to go but deep down we knew he was counting down the sleeps to the big night! Social Club This year the social club ventured to the Seaworld Nara resort for one night and two days, everyone had a great time. Thank you to Diego Satriano and Brad Cumerford for organising the whole weekend. Great job boys!

Special thanks to all our staff for their support over the year and we will look forward to a very much improved 2010. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all.

Building Progress

The building of the new dealership is progressing well, with the roofs already on the workshop and offices and the mezzanine floor having been completed.

Concrete floors have been completed in the offices and workshops and the pits are well underway. The fit-ups in the offices commenced in early December

On 17th December we will be holding a Christmas barbeque on the site to show Townsville customers and staff the progress to date. If you would also like to follow the progress, you can do so through the Intranet. (Media, Branch Construction Pictures, Townsville Construc-tion)

Sales

Since receiving the 2010 price book, the three Townsville salesmen, Tony Burton, David Boyd and Kevin Hartwell, have spent many hours travelling over 12,000 kms between them. For their efforts they have made a fabulous start to the year by having obtained over 35 orders for the 2010 order bank. They have travelled to as far north as Cooktown, to the Gulf region and as far west as Mount Isa.

Stage Door Theatre Restaurant

On Saturday 14th November Townsville’s Social club members had their final outing for the year. It was an outing of a different kind with 20 people catching the ferry across to Magnetic Island where they were treated to a three course meal and a musical comedy cabaret show!

Everybody had an enjoyable evening with lots of laughter and entertainment.

The Kyogle & Tweed branches held their Christmas Party on the

29th November at the Pennyridge Resort in the Tweed Hinterland.

It was one of the hottest days in November and of course we were

there for lunch. A couple of the guys managed to get into the pool

to cool off with the ladies sitting around the edge. A great afternoon

was had and the bus trip home was very rowdy.

Steve Hutchinson (Strop) went in the Relay for Life to raise funds for Cancer Research with his team raising over $5000. Whilst the adults slept during the early hours of the morning and children in the team kept the team going, with the team completing a total of over 350 laps.

Social club had a bowling night at Kegel (9 pin bowling) . Whilst everyone had a great night the only strikes went to Debbie and Craig Eichmann, with Wilbur maintaining a perfect score of zero over a 10 frame game, there were chants of a Nudey Run, thank goodness Wilbur is a bit bashful. The Department challenge was won by Admin/Spare Parts. Warren Lunn (Waz) wanted to see his name in the Newsletter for having the highest individual score, well done Waz.

Brown & Hurley Coffs delivered the 200th Kenworth to Lindsay Australia in October. Celebrating with a function at the Bonville Golf Resort. Guests were entertained by Murray Hartin, a Comedian Poet with tales of Australia Outback. The night was a great success, which mirrors the relationship between Brown & Hurley and Lindsay Australia, with the orders still coming in with a grand total of 211 to be delivered by the end of 2009. A great achievement from Doug, Scott (little Dougy as Kim Lindsay calls him) and all the Staff at Coffs for the great service we provide.

Golf seems to be the sport to play lately, with 2 Teams participating in the Boral Golf Day, where the temperature reached close to 36 degrees, need-less to say a lot of drinks were consumed on the day. Team 2 came 5th & Team 1 came 10th. With Debbie being new to the Golfing scene, she is always learning the different rules and studying the mannerisms of her team. One being how they develop a very nervous chuckle when a women is driving the cart and they are leaning out of the cart to pickup the ball and secondly when they are having a putt which is just off the green and the ball is heading straight to the pin and will probably hit the flag and go in and Deb decides to pull the flag out, this causes men to roll on the ground in disbelief and make animal groans from all players.

Brown and Hurley staff wish Warren and Karrisa (pictured) all the very best for the future. A great time was had by all, celebrating into the early hours of the morning.

Workshop

We welcomed Jamie Challacombe (a new mechanic) and Ben Foster, a third year apprentice. Our two new apprentices commencing in January

will be James Steele and Clay Powell.

Sales

Colin and Arthur completed a 3500Km road trip with a New T658 Kenworth and DAF CF75 Stock Crate to visit custom-ers and support our sponsorships at the Winton Outback Festival in September.

It started with a Brown and Hurley, Kenworth and Cummins customer information night in Emerald with representatives from Kenworth, Paccar Finance and Cummins Engines. A number of our good customers from the Emerald region received the latest available information from us and were able to view the new truck and engine range.

On the road the next day to Longreach with a early start to make sure we did not run out of log book hours saw us in Longreach early afternoon. A visit to some local customers and then into truck washing duties. Not a bad idea when the temperatures start pushing 40 degrees celcius.

Another early start to get us to Winton and allow time to set the trucks up at the Winton Race Day. This local race day is very well supported by one of our good customers Grant's Livestock. A fantastic 5 race day was had by all with people travelling many kilometres to attend. Colin said that the festivities went on well into the night.

This was a great start to the Winton Outback festival which was to run for anther 5 days with numerous events including truck pulls by teams and the worlds Strongest Men, Bush Olympics and Dunny Cart races.

The Winton Heritage Truck museum hosted a great afternoon culminating in Travis Sinclair playing to an enthusiastic audience. This was to set the scene for a big closing event at the sports ground again with Travis Sinclair singing all the favourites and a lot of dancing in front of the stage.

While in the local area Colin and I had the opportunity to visit a number of customers out that way we don't get to too often. Still chasing down some quotes we did and we are confident we will get some over the line.

Day 10 saw an early start to drive the 1000km back to Rocky and stay legal with the log books. The drive gave us time to reflect on a great experience spread over the 10 days covering some of our more remote western ar-eas and experience the dust storm which most of us also experienced in many other area's. Sure took some beer to wash that out.

Who is the caged Fowle at the Races????

IT TIPS

Managing your Safe List of Email Addresses.

The MIMEsweeper software used in Brown & Hurley that traps spam messages can also occasionally block messages from legitimate sources if MIMEsweeper

thinks there is a good chance the content is spam.

When this happens you get an email asking you to review the messages, from which you can delete or release the email message and mark the sender as some-

one you always want to receive email from even if the message *might* be spam.

You can manage the contents of your safe list by the following link, where you can also add and delete other details, including putting a wildcard symbol such as

*@kenworth.com.au to allow emails from anyone at Kenworth.com.au.

http://bhdccf01.brownandhurley.com.au/MSWPMM/Common/SafeList.aspx

Solve Wireless Connection Problems

Wi-Fi is awfully convenient, but it's also awfully buggy for many users, particularly those in areas crowded by competing wireless signals. If you're dealing with a loss

of signal, try the following to troubleshoot your wireless setup.

1. Your PC might just need a little massaging. The best way to quickly disconnect and reconnect to your router is to right-click the wireless icon in the system tray

and click Repair. If this doesn't solve the problem and you suspect it's still a PC issue, open a command prompt and type ipconfig /renew. This performs nearly the

same operation as Repair but bypasses Windows, which could be causing the problem. If all else fails, reboot your PC.

2. If you're still having trouble, power-cycle your router by unplugging it, waiting 10 seconds, and plugging it back in. Your PC will need to reconnect after the

router has booted up. Most routers lock up occasionally, and power cycling is the most reliable way to fix them. (Unless you can't physically reach your router, don't

restart it through its management utility; that approach takes just as long, and the utility may not respond anyway.)

If you're still encountering frequent problems, you may be experiencing channel conflict, where multiple Wi-Fi routers are operating in the same narrow band of

frequency. Download and run the evaluation version of

WirelessMon; you can do all you need to with the demo. Look at the 'Channel Use' chart: Red and orange bars indicate channels under heavy use, while blue or no

bars indicate relatively free channels. If your router is on a crowded channel, switch to a less busy one. (Visit your router's management system to do this; read

"Safeguard Your Wi-Fi Network" for directions.) You may see better performance and fewer dropouts.

Create Keyboard Shortcuts

You can automate just about any point-and-click operation you perform with the mouse. Here's a variety of ways to make keyboard shortcuts.

Windows lets you assign a keyboard command to any shortcut icon. (Note, though, that it has to be a shortcut; you can't assign a keyboard shortcut to any file you

want.) Just right-click the icon in question, click Properties, and click in the 'Shortcut key' field. Press the keyboard combo you want to assign to launch the shortcut;

it must include one standard character plus two or three of <Ctrl>, <Shift>, or <Alt>. (<Ctrl>-<Shift>-R in the example shown.)

To make more robust shortcuts, try the appropriately named freeware app Keyboard Shortcuts. With such shortcuts you can launch any file, perform system com-

mands (such as logging off and shutting down), or open any URL in a browser. One shortcut can even perform several of these actions, simultaneously or in se-

quence.

For even more complex shortcuts, get a macro recorder that can capture detailed steps and repeat them on command. The Workspace Macro program ($25) can

capture anything you type, as well as mouse movements and clicks. Just click New to record a macro, and click Stop after you've done all your typing and mousing.

If you want to assign keyboard shortcuts to your macros, you'll need a separate program, Launch-N-Go ($25).
