Dear community members of Our Lady of the Angels:

May the Lord give you peace. By means of this letter being sent to all

registered members of the church, Charles Brown an I would like to keep

you informed of developments here at the Casa.

The Board sponsored a discernment process beginning in 2007. The goal

was to look at the present and future needs of the Casa through the eyes ofcommunity members. Community members were invited through altar and

bulletin announcements to attend and bring thoughts and ideas for

discussion and the development of recommendations. On August 28, of 2008, a final report and set of

recommendations were made and presented to the board and anyone who wished to attend the meeting.

A letter was put in the bulletin about this the following November. Some temporary solutions to the

overcrowding issue at Sunday masses were presented and acted upon. Today, we'd like to let you know

    what has been accomplished.

The most notable recommendation was to add a Saturday evening mass. We noticed that during the

busy season (late Sept. through mid May) this made only a small impact on the overcrowding of Sunday

morning. This mass is now developing a community life with a mix of old-timers and new members andis a gift to the entire worshipping community.

The ability to remodel or enlarge the present church is limited by two issues: the unavailability of the

church during remodeling (we don't have another room of a similar size) and the fact that the entire

main building would be affected by any major work in the church since there is no separation in the

structure. A County Building Permit to alter the church by enclosing more space would require

upgrades from the kitchen and dining room to the offices and gift shop - structural features, electrical

systems, fire suppression systems, etc. If we do nothing, we're ok, but if we do major changes we would

have to upgrade and not just the church. This would be quite expensive.

To help with the overcrowding issue we added a shade screen to the north ramada of the church and

recently installed a misting system in both ramadas to make the spaces more welcoming in hot weather.

We cannot enclose the ramadas into the church without the upgrades mentioned above. We purchased alarge screen monitor for the north ramada (when the misting system isn't being used) so that people can

see what's happening in the church. We installed a new monitor in the lobby also, so that the 50-60

    people there can better see.

At this of year (July 1) mass attendance goes down. We also know by October it will be rising

substantially. Even so, on a light weekend like Memorial Day we still did not have enough room in the

church for everyone at 2 of the 5 masses. While we know that some people prefer to sit in the lobby or

outside, we also know that some do not and go there because there are no more chairs in the church.

Over time we'll send you more information, so please watch for it. We look forward to communicating

more with you in the future and we're grateful that you've become part of our community life.

May you be blessed now and always!

Healing Mass Nov. 13, Saturday, 11am Feb. 12, Saturday, 11am

All are welcome! The Healing Mass is open to all who hope in the physical, mental, emotional, andspiritual healing our God offers to us. Join us as we pray for each other and with each other, and see the

many ways God can heal each one of us. At a Healing Mass, we simply bring our needs and infirmities to

    the Lord through the Eucharist.

"Lord, I am not worthy to receive you but only say the word and I shall be healed."

The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick will also be available following the mass.

"Is anyone sick among you? He should call for the priests of the Church and have them pray

Over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord and the prayer of faith will save the

sick person and will raise him up." (James 5:15)

    Who needs God's Healing?

Someone who is sick or someone who has been physically injured someone in a difficult relationship

or going through a divorce someone who is grieving the loss of a loved one someone who is

fighting an addiction someone who is depressed someone struggling with anger or anxiety

someone who is finding life too difficult someone feeling abandoned someone who has lost their

faith. The truth is that all of us at some point in our lives need the healing power of God.

Bring your faith (and your doubt) and come and join one another in prayer.

Faith in ActionA message from the director.

But Zacchaeus stood there and said to the Lord,

"Behold, half of my possessions, Lord,

I shall give to the poor, and if I have extorted anything from anyone

I shall repay it four times over."And Jesus said to him,

"Today salvation has come to this house.A few weeks ago the Liturgy and Justice Study Teammet to reflect and share on todays readings and seewhat they have to say concerning how we live out ourlives as followers of Jesus. They pass these reflectionson to our Presiders and Liturgy team to share ideas forhomilies and Prayers of the Faithful. If youd beinterested in joining this study team, contact me [email protected] or 480-948-7460 x130.Here are some of their thoughts on today's readings.

God loves everything God created; totally even taxcollectors and grumblers. God is always seeking the ones who are lost

spends time with them; rejoices over them. Which one are we in the story: Are we the ones who

grumbled at Jesus for mingling with sinners? (yes). Are we Zacchaeus, who is in so much need ofconversion? (yes) Are we Jesus, who spends timewith outcasts and gently converts them? (yes)

I add that salvation comes when we choose toparticipate in the Kingdom of God-allowing ourselvesto be changed into more loving, compassionate people,a reflection of our loving, compassionate God.

    News from the Catechetical Blackboard

    Celebrate the Saints!

You can actually see a saint today! Take a look in a mirroryup that is you! A saint in themaking!Did you know that we are called to become saints? St. Paul writes in Romans 1:6-7 that weare called of Christ and called as saints. Parents in our family catechesis program had

the opportunity to talk about every day saints, those people around us and in our lives that live saintly lives. TheCatholic church embraces those canonized Saints Saints with a capitol S, but also recognizes the other saints those with a lower case s.What does it mean to be called as a saint? How do you live that life? Our families pondered what qualities make upa saint. Walking in the light, in unity, in wisdom, in love and in truth; these are only a few qualities that comestraight from Pauls letter to the Ephesians, chapter 4. We find more references in Colossians Chapter 1.Is there a S/saint who has profoundly shaped your spirituality and your life? This weekend as we prepare tocelebrate All Saints and All Souls Day, Take a moment to say thank you, whether these saints are still alive orhave passed away. Share their stories with your families and friends, so that we too can be inspired to live saintlyand holy lives!

Saint Trivia!Students in grades 4 6 had the chance to play Saint Bingo. They were given descriptions of a saint and had tocome up with the right answer! Check your Saintly knowledge with this fun quiz!
