Treble Choir
Registration is now open for 2018 - 2019 Treble Choir on the Cathedral web-site. Boys and girls beginning in 3rd grade are eligible to join. The choirs will sing approximately once a month as well as for Christmas Eve, Easter Sunday, First Communion Masses, Lessons and Carols and Choral Evensong. Musicianship training is provided utilizing the Voice for Life program of the Royal School of Church Music. The Choir also participates in the annual Pueri Canatores Festival in March. The Personal Ordinariate of the Chair of Saint Peter is seeking to hire an Administrative Assistant for the Chancery’s Business Office. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, accurately recording incoming donations and outgoing payments, database entry, incoming and outgoing mail, and serving as the Chan-cery’s Receptionist.
A candidate should have basic computer literacy, familiarity with Microsoft Office, knowledge of database input (ParishSOFT is a plus), and good communication skills.
General Responsibilities Creating, maintaining, and entering information into databases (specifically ParishSOFT) Managing online and physical filing systems Sorting incoming mail and assisting with outgoing mail campaigns Handling incoming calls and other communications Greeting visitors to the Chancery Comport oneself in a manner that positively represents the Personal Ordinariate of the Chair of St Peter.

All teens (13 - 18 years) are invited to a Walsinghammers Youth meeting on Sunday, September 2 at 1:15 pm in Seton Hall. Pizza will be served for lunch! We’ll be coordinating events for youth activities for the upcoming year. Some of the activities we would like to promote are:
Standard Meetings From 1:30 to 3:00 pm, once a month, the youth gather in Seton Hall to pray the Rosary, then they par-ticipate in a discussion given by one of the adults from the parish about a deep theological truth. Plan-ning fundraisers and discussing upcoming opportunities to support the Church and raise money for trips to a variety of youth conferences.
Funday Sunday Activity Afternoon From 1:30 to 4:30 pm, once a month the youth gather either in Seton or St. Jude Hall to enjoy pizza and a movie, with a discussion to follow. Then, time permitting, play board games or participate in an outdoor activity until the end of the gathering.
Service Opportunities and Fundraisers The youth will provide many services for the parish and its families and participate in Cathedral events such as Galas, Patronal Feast, Trunk-or-Treat, Easter Egg Hunt, Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper and more.
Ideas for FUN-draisers consist of Bingo Bango Bongo Bash, Hunger Retreat, Sundae Sunday, Awake-a-Thon (Lock-in), Advent Wreath Makin’n’Sellin’, and Christmas Caroling.
The youth will also be able to participate in Family Life Ministry and Pro-Life events.

Our Lady in September
According to tradition, the month of May is set aside in honor of the Virgin Mary and October is dedicated to the
Holy Rosary. But the end of summer and beginning of autumn are also remarkably rich with Marian feasts and
memorials. On August 15 we celebrated the Solemnity of Our Lady’s Assumption, and then a week later—on the
octave—the Church commemorated the Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary. In thus linking these two feasts, the
liturgical year reminds us that Our Lady was lifted up to heaven to exercise her royalty as the mediatrix of graces
in the office of intercession on our behalf.
September 7 the Church observes the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Mother. To the usual practice of celebrating
the “birthdays” of saints on the day of their death instead of the day of birth, the Church makes only two excep-
tions, for Our Lady and for John the Baptist (we commemorated his nativity on June 24 and his martyrdom on
August 29). Like Christ whose birth we celebrate on December 25, both were born without original sin: Mary
was immaculate from the first moment of her conception, while John was cleansed of original sin in Elizabeth’s
womb at the Visitation of Mary.
On Wednesday, September 12, the Church honors the Most Holy Name of Mary. In keeping with Jewish custom,
Our Lady’s parents named her eight days after her birth, and they gave her the Hebrew name Maryam, meaning
lady or sovereign (Domina in Latin). Thus we call Mary “Our Lady” as we call Jesus “Our Lord,” and at Mass we
bow our heads at mentions of her name just as we reverence the Divine Name of her Son.
Then on Saturday, September 15, falls the Memorial of Our Lady of Sorrows, commemorated here under her English
title as St. Mary at the Cross. On the octave day after the Nativity of Our Lady and a day after the Exaltation of
the Holy Cross, we commemorate “The Seven Dolors of the Virgin,” as the day was known in the seventeenth centu-
ry, and we remember the “seven swords” that pierced the Heart of Mary in her compassion for the sufferings of her
Divine Son. Thus contemplating the spiritual martyrdom of the Mother of God, we look to our own Feast of Title,
the Solemnity of Our Lady of Walsingham on Monday, September 24, and recall Mary’s solemn joy in the Annunci-
ation and even as we celebrate the beloved patroness of this our cathedral parish and of the whole North American

Psalms: The School of Prayer
We hear the Psalms read or sung at every Mass between the first and second read-ings, but do we understand their signifi-cance? The Psalms are the heart of the Bible. They are prayers from God that help us to pray. These sacred hymns be-come our heartfelt response to God’s lov-ing and wondrous deeds for us. Their words captivate the imagination and draw us into a deeply personal encounter with God.

The proposed new high school is open to students who are best served by the unique educational approach and mission of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Walsingham, in the Personal Ordinariate of the Chair of Saint Peter. The new co-educational school welcomes students of diverse abilities, interests, ethnicities, cultures, and races.
LOCATION The proposed new high school will be on the Cathedral of Our Lady of Walsingham campus in a new building con-structed to support and complement its spiritual, academic, and co-curricular programs.
CATHOLIC IDENTITY WITHIN THE ORDINARIATE Within the context of the patrimony of English Christianity entrusted to the Personal Ordinariate of the Chair of Saint Peter for future generations, the Cathedral high school will provide a superior and rigorous education faithful to the teachings of the Catholic Church in all aspects of the educational process. Students will be encouraged and supported in their development into integral Catholic leaders in our world today. Administration, staff, and faculty will work with students, and their parents – the first educators of their children – to develop the spiritual and intellectual potential of each student. This holistic approach seeks to form students in a sacramental worldview and engage the development of the whole person in mind, body, and spirit. Therefore, with a unique focus on Catholic theology and sacred worship, students will receive their core academic subjects in addition to instruction and training in sacred music and sacred art.
The Catholic identity of the Cathedral high school will be strong and visible throughout all aspects of the school’s life. Daily Mass, individual and communal prayer, emphasis on vocational discernment, works of mercy, and required cours-es each year in Catholic theology and liturgical studies are the building blocks of the new school’s identity. The physical buildings will embody the rich heritage of artistic, symbolic, and architectural Catholic beauty, and all on campus will perceive the school’s intentional and strong emphasis on giving glory to God by worshipping in spirit and in truth.
CURRICULUM & ACADEMIC OFFERINGS The new high school’s excellent and accredited curriculum will deliver solid preparation for a life dedicated to God and service in the Church, further university studies, and future career work. This school will be known for its strong Cath-olic identity, high academic achievement, and comprehensive “Four Pillars” approach:
Sacred Worship: Primacy is given to the daily celebration of the liturgical life of the Church since the first education of the soul is conducted not by programs but by the Word of God and sacramental grace. This is accomplished through the daily celebration of Holy Mass, the source and summit of the life of the Church, and in the daily offering of the Divine Office.
Sacred Wisdom: Academic rigor in the liberal arts is essential to the formation of rational, free, and virtuous persons. Ordinariate education ensures a firm grounding in classical literature, grammar, mathematics, sci-ence, and other core subjects.
Sacred Music: Music is an integral part of the patrimony of English Christianity, and singing has been an essential expression of faith and worship for centuries. Music education is therefore central to the curricu-lum in the Ordinariate and provides a point of integration for the other core subjects.
Sacred Art: Also a strength of the patrimony, sacred art is taught in the Ordinariate not just from the stand-point of appreciation, but in the creation of it. Students will explore the fine, applied, and preforming arts as an integral part of learning and not just as an “extra-curricular” activity.
DISTINGUISHING PROGRAMS An appropriate array of activities will be made available to students of the new high school. It is understood that not all offerings will be active at the inception of the new school, but the goal will be to offer diverse programming that meet the needs and interests of the students. Such programming includes, but is not limited to:
1. Strong sacred art and sacred music programs, as an integral part of the curriculum; 2. Programs dedicated to works of mercy in the Houston area and partnering with other Catholic charitable ser vice organizations; 3. Student organizations (volunteer opportunities, academic teams, and student government) 4. Intramural athletics to support physical formation of students
UNIQUE ELEMENTS The new high school proposes a new model for Catholic education and formation. A few basic areas that will set graduates from this high school apart include: 1. Rich liturgical formation; 2. Holistic education in the Catholic faith; 3. Sacred music and sacred art as an integral part of the educational experience; 4. Presence and active involvement of Chancery/Cathedral clergy and religious on campus; 5. Participation in Daily Mass
ENROLLMENT An ideal enrollment would be 150 to 200 students; however, the feasibility study will help determine what enroll-ments are possible and adequate to support a viable high school.
TUITION A family’s ability to pay should not deter them from seeking admission. Tuition should be in the range of other Catholic high schools in the surrounding Houston area. Scholarship funding and financial assistance will be available for families.
There would be an established endowment and financial assistance program so that all families, despite financial need, can attend if desired. It will take time to establish such a financial assistance program.
