Introduction
The Mass ITH the availability of the Divine Worship Missal (DWM) referencs to that source have become possible. Equally, some information given in previous editions of this Ordo is now
unnecessary. We give title and page number for each Mass but the Missal itself indicates when Gloria in excelsis and Credo are to be said and which Preface is to be used. Broadly speaking, the readings at Mass on Sundays, solemnities and feasts are proper, whereas the readings for ferias and memorials are as for the occurring weekday. In the rare instances where a memorial has a proper reading, this is indicated in the Lectionary for Mass. Sometimes, when the proper readings of a solemnity or feast interrupt lectio continua, a re-arrangement of passages by the priest is suggested by the General Instruction of the Roman Missal (GIRM). (See para. 358). Liturgical precedence is as set out in DWM. Note that Ember Days and Rogation Days take precedence over optional memorials, which are, accordingly, omitted. Reference may also be made to a local, diocesan Ordo, depending on the context in which Mass is to be offered. For more concerning the choice of Mass, see GIRM paras. 353-355.
The Office The Customary of Our Lady of Walsingham continues to be the Office of the Personal Ordinariate of Our Lady of Walsingham, and clergy, and others canonically bound to say the Office, discharge that obligation by the daily recitation of Morning and Evening Prayer according to the Customary. Prayer during the Day and Compline in the Customary are supplementary rather than mandatory. The Customary is work in progress: thus the collects in the Customary remain available but have been superseded by those in DWM. There is also extra provision for Canticles. For notes on the Canticles at Morning Prayer, see Appendix f). When an alternative canticle might conflict with a reading set for a particular day, the reference is marked with an
asterisk.*

Psalmody Proper psalms are prescribed for Sundays and certain Holy Days. On other days, the psalter is read in course, as set out in the Customary of Our Lady of Walsingham. Psalms which are regularly used – for the Invitatory or Compline, for example – are bracketed and may be omitted from the monthly scheme. The Laudate psalms (Pss 148-150) which traditionally conclude Morning Prayer may be used. On ferias and memorials the Laudate psalms may be said either in full (with Gloria Patri said only after the final psalm) or as follows: Monday and Thursday, Ps 148; Tuesday and Friday, Ps 149; Wednesday and Saturday, Ps 150. The psalm scheme of the Divine Office may be followed instead. This may help particularly those who wish to use the Breviary in the morning and the Customary for Evening Prayer. A table of psalms, according to the Divine Office scheme, duly adapted to follow the Hebrew numbering, is included in this Ordo. Morning Prayer At Morning Prayer, either the reading in bold type (drawn from the Two-Year Cycle of the Office of Readings) as in this Ordo, or the corresponding reading from the One-Year Cycle, as printed in the Divine Office, should always be read. When this reading is drawn from the Old Testament, a reading from the New Testament may also be read, usually the Gospel of the Day, traditionally read at Mattins. When the reading in bold type, or as found in the Divine Office, is from the New Testament, an Old Testament reading, given here in italics, may be read as the First Lesson. Occasionally in Eastertide a short Old Testament reading is used more than once in a week. The New Testament reading follows as the Second Lesson. References are given too for the Gospel of the Day, even when it is not needed as a secpmd reading at Morning Prayer. The practice of meditating on the Gospel of the Day is commendable. GIRM (para. 249) encourages re-arrangement of weekday readings when lectio continua is interrupted by the propers of a solemnity or a feast. Such re-arrangements in this Ordo are indicated by the use of brackets. It is usually possible to omit passages in brackets without losing the overall narratives and themes.

It is permissible for there to be only one reading from Scripture at Morning Prayer. The second reading, following a responsory or canticle, would then be a post-biblical reading, drawn from the Divine Office. In addition to the readings in the Divine Office there is an anthology of spiritual readings in the Customary, referred to in the tables by page numbers. Though readings not part of the Divine Office may not displace the formal readings of the Office, readings in the Customary may be used at some other point, perhaps after the Gospel Canticle or after the Third Collect, at Prayer during the Day, or Compline.
Evening Prayer At Evening Prayer two readings are offered, following the Prayer Book pattern. They are drawn mostly from the Daily Office Lectionary of the Book of Divine Worship, adjusted so that the pattern for different years complements rather than conflicts with the Roman Office Lectionary, which provides the major reading for Morning Prayer. The practice of reading the Gospel of the Resurrection or the Gospel of the Day as the Second Lesson at Evening Prayer I of Sunday, is also facilitated in these tables. The same convention of italicisation, as in Morning Prayer, where the Gospel would be additional to a New Testament reading, is followed. There are contexts where it would be appropriate to read the Gospel of the Day at Evening Prayer.
Commemoration of Saints During the privileged seasons of the year – 17 December to 24 December, the Christmas Octave, Lent – a saint inscribed in the calendar as an optional memorial may be commemorated. For the conventions of the Roman Office, see the General Instruction on the Liturgy of the Hours (para. 239). In the Ordinariate of Our Lady of Walsingham the Octave of Pentecost is also privileged. The commemoration of the saint is effected by use of the appropriate post-biblical reading at Morning Prayer and the collect of the saint as a second collect at Morning and Evening Prayer. The collect of the saint may be used as the Collect of the Day at Mass (see GIRM para. 355a).

Ordinary Form
INTROIT Salve, sancta parens Hail, Holy Mother, who gave birth to the King: who
rules heaven and earth for ever.
COLLECT Grant, we pray, almighty God, that as in the mystery of the
Incarnation the Blessed and ever Virgin Mary conceived your Son in her heart
before she conceived him in the womb, so we, your pilgrim people, rejoicing in
her motherly care, may welcome him into our hearts and become a holy house
fit for his eternal dwelling. Who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the
Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
FIRST READING Sirach 24:1, 2-4, 8-12, 19-22
GRADUAL/RESPONSORIAL PSALM Magnificat.
R/. Blessed is the Virgin Mary, who bore the Son of the eternal Father.
SECOND READING Gal 4:4-7
ALLELUIA. Alleluia. Alleluia. Blessed is the Virgin Mary, who treasured the word
of God, and pondered it in her heart. Alleluia.
GOSPEL John 19:25-27
[OFFERTORY Beata es]
PRAYER OVER THE OFFERINGS Receive, O Lord, we ask, the prayers of your
people with the sacrificial offerings, that, through the intercession of Blessed
Mary, the Mother of your Son, no petition may go unanswered, no request be
made in vain. Through Christ our Lord.
COMMUNION Beata viscera Blessed is the womb of the Virgin Mary: which bore
the Son of the eternal Father.
POST-COMMUNION PRAYER As we receive this heavenly Sacrament, we beseech,
O Lord, your mercy, that we, who rejoice in commemorating the Blessed Virgin
Mary, may by imitating her serve worthily the mystery of our redemption.
Through Christ our Lord.

I. HOLY HOUSE
INTROIT Terribilis est O how awesome is this place: this is the house of God, and
gate of heaven: and men shall call it the palace of God. Ps O how
amiable are thy dwellings, thou Lord of hosts: my soul hath a desire and longing
to enter into the courts of the Lord. Glory be… O how awesome…
COLLECT O God, who through the mystery of the Word made flesh, didst in thy
mercy sanctify the house of the Blessed Virgin Mary: do thou grant that we may
keep aloof from the tabernacle of sinners, and become worthy indwellers of thy
house; through Jesus Christ thy Son our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit, ever one God, world without end.
FIRST READING Sirach 24:1, 2-4, 8-12, 19-22
GRADUAL Unam petii One thing have I desired of the Lord, which I will require:
even that I may dwell in the house of the Lord. To behold the fair beauty of the

house: they will be always praising thee. [Alleluia.]
SECOND READING Gal 4:4-7
ALLELUIA Et ingressus Angelus Alleluia. Alleluia. And the Angel came in unto her,

COMMUNION Beatus qui audit me/Beatus homo Blessed is the man that heareth me,
waiting at the posts of my doors: for whoso findeth me, findeth life, and shall
obtain favour of the Lord.
POSTCOMMUNION Grant, we beseech thee, O Lord our God: that these holy

by the intercession of Saint Mary the Virgin, be profitable unto us for the healing

Alleluia. Ps The heavens declare the glory of God: and the firmament showeth his
handy-work. Glory be… Drop down…
COLLECT Grant, we pray thee, O Lord God, that as in the mystery of the
Incarnation the blessed and ever-Virgin Mary conceived thy Son in her heart
before she conceived him in her womb: so we, thy pilgrim people, rejoicing in her

c) The Omission of Psalms
The following psalms may be omitted from the Psalter in Course for these
reasons:
4 Used daily at Compline
14 Similar to Ps 53
24 When used as the Invitatory, it is not repeated that day.
58 A ‘cursing psalm’.
67 When used as the Invitatory, it is not repeated that day.
91 Used daily at Compline.
95 When used as the Invitatory, it is not repeated that day.
100 When used as the Invitatory, it is not repeated that day.
132 Used daily at Compline.
Other psalms in brackets may be omitted where they occur.
d) Modification of the Psalmody
In Catholic as in Jewish worship, the Tetragrammaton is never to be said aloud
(see Liturgiam authenticam 41c). Three modification are needed therefore to the
Coverdale Psalter, and are given in the Customary: in Pss 35:12 and 68:4, the
abbreviated form of the Tetragrammaton should simply be omitted; in Ps 83:18,
the normal English biblical convention of substituting ‘the LORD’ for the
Divine Name should be followed.
OLW Ordo Appendix

e) Readings
For the reading of lessons, the Revised Standard Version should be used in
either the first Catholic Edition or the second Catholic Edition (RSV-2CE).
Though the Jerusalem Bible is the basis of the Lectionary in most Catholic
churches in England and Wales, that version of the Bible itself (and similarly the
New Jerusalem Bible) is often not suitable for reading aloud in public because
of the frequent occurrence of the Tetragrammaton.
f) Morning Canticles On Sundays (except in Penitential Seasons) and on feasts and solemnities, the Festal Canticle, Te Deum laudamus, is used (Customary page 39.) When the Gloria is used at Mass On other occasions, one of the following is used:
1) Benedicite, omnia opera see Customary page 35. 2) Benedictus es Domine see Customary page 37. 3) A canticle from the collection available at www.ordinariate.org.uk,
printed there in full, with references given in the table below:
