Candlemas
2 February 2018 at 12:05 pm
Candlemas is a solemnity celebrating Jesus’
presentation at the temple. It is one of the oldest
feasts and has been celebrated since the 4th cen-
tury. Candles are available to purchase in ad-
vance to be blessed at Candlemas. Envelopes are
located in the back of the church. Sets of candles
will be $5. Deadline for payment is January
16th and can be placed in the collection or at 105
Queen parish office.
Blessed candles will be available to pick up af-
ter the 12:05 pm Mass on 2 February at the Par-
ish Office.
Solemn Vespers
21 January 2018 at 4:00 pm the Catholic Cathe-
dral of St. John the Baptist will host the combined
choirs of Cathedral of St. John the Baptist and
Grace Episcopal Cathedral as they sing Solemn
Vespers in observance of the Week of Christian
Unity. Monsignor Steven Brovey, Rector of the
Cathedral of St. John the Baptist and The Very
Reverend J. Michael A. Wright, Rector and Dean
of Grace Cathedral, will preside. The service is
free and open to the public. A reception will fol-
low in the Parish Hall.
Reminder: Parent Christian Formation Classes
will resume on 21 January.
Confirmation Practice
Confirmation Practice will be Wednesday, 24
January at 6:00 pm in the Cathedral. Confirma-
tion will be held Sunday, 28 January at the 11:15
am Mass.

The Taylor Festival Choir will perform on 28
January from 3-4:30 pm at the Cathedral. They
will perform the repertoire they will present at
the 2018 American Choral Directors Association
Southern Division Conference along with an ap-
pealing offering of American folk songs and
spirituals.

Parenthood Clinic

Sacrament of Marriage
Either the bride or the groom must be a practicing
Catholic and registered at the Cathedral for at least
twelve months before scheduling a wedding date and
beginning the six month marriage preparation. The
bride/groom must be an active parishioner, regularly
attending Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of Obliga-
tion, and use of the envelope system in support of the
parish. The Wedding Policy Booklet may be found on
the Cathedral Website.

Various facilities and services are available to our ac-
tive members. This includes use of the church for Bap-
tisms, Weddings and other Sacramental events, God-
parent/Sponsor letters, and includes parishioner sta-
tus in parochial schools.
Active Membership is determined by four things:
Being properly registered in the parish for a suffi-
cient period of time.
Faithful attendance at Mass on Sundays and Holy
Days.
Use of the envelope system in support of the par-
ish.
Being active in at least one parish program, minis-
try or organization.
