Christmas Novena to St. Andrew An Advent tradition for many is to begin praying the Saint Andrew Christmas Novena on November 30, the day the Catholic Church celebrates the feast of Saint Andrew. The novena is not actually addressed to Saint Andrew but to God Himself, asking Him to grant our request in the honor of the birth of His Son at Christmas. While a novena is normally a nine-day prayer, the term can be used for any prayer that is repeated over a series of days.

(It is piously believed that whoever recites the prayer fifteen times a day from the feast of St. Andrew (30th November) until Christmas will obtain what is asked!)

Hail and blessed be the hour and moment at which the Son of God was born of a most pure Virgin at a stable at midnight in Bethlehem in the piercing cold. At that hour vouchsafe, I beseech Thee, to hear my prayers and grant my desires. (Mention your intentions here) Through Jesus Christ and His most Blessed Mother. Amen.

Consider Joining a Discipleship Quad Are you looking to grow closer to Jesus in the new year? Would you like to grow in your faith in new and unexpected ways? This Advent, take time to prayerfully consider joining one of our Discipleship Quads that will be starting in January. A Discipleship Quad is a group of four people who journey together as disciples through weekly gatherings of fellowship, ongoing conversion, and learning. We’ve had eight people from our cluster go through the process this past year and they have all said that it was a truly transformational experience. Contact Kristin if you would like to learn more About joining or starting a Discipleship Quad. ([email protected], 320-228-0105)

Weekly Offering

Weekly Readings

No further Mass Intentions until after January. I am sorry for this inconvenience but because of Covid and the times when we were shut down and not having masses, be-cause the injury of my arm and the days I was unable to have mass, and with the amount of masses offered after the funerals of people who have died in the parish, and the fact that in July we received the new parish of St. Wendel and their intentions, I got behind in the order of those who had offered mass intentions. I am still trying to finish September and October. I thought that if we stopped offering them here that I might try eventually to get back to the original schedule. I can only receive an intention/donation one mass a day. ~Fr. Gregory

Advent Wreath Blessing Make the sign of the cross to begin L: Our help is in the name of the Lord. R: Who made heaven and earth.

Read Is 9: 1-2, 5-6 or Is 63: 16-17&19 L:The Word of the Lord. R:Thanks be to God.

With hands joined, the leader says: Lord our God, we praise you for your Son, Jesus Christ: He is Emmanuel, the hope of the people, He is the wisdom that teaches and guides, He is the Savior of every nation. Lord God, let your blessing come upon us as we light the candles of this wreath. May the wreath and its light be a sign of Christ’s promise to bring us salvation. May he come quickly and not delay. We ask this through Christ our Lord. R: Amen All sing: “O come, O come, Emmanuel” O come, desire of nations, bind in one the hearts of humankind; bid ev’ry sad division cease and be thyself our Prince of peace. Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel shall come to thee, O Israel.

How to do the Examen: Give Thanksgiving: pray for all you are grateful for reflecting on how God has blessed you today Ask for the Spirit: reflect on the moments where you did not act well and ask for the Holy Spirit’s guidance. Review and recognize failures: look back through the day and ask the Lord to point out moments where you failed in big and small ways. Ask for forgiveness and healing: If you have sinned, ask God for forgiveness and go to Confession with it. If you have simply made a mistake, ask for healing of any harm that may have been done to self or others. Pray about the next day: Ask God to show you how tomorrow might go and ask for help during any difficult moments especially ones where you might fail. ~ loyolapress.com

Saint John Damascene-December 4th The last of the Greek fathers, John was born in Damascus, Syria that was under Islamic rule. He succeeded his father as chief representative of the Christian community to the caliph but was forced to resign in 719 because of his faith. He entered a monastery in the mountain wilderness between Jerusalem and the Dead Sea, and lived there until his death. As a priest, he devoted himself to prayer and writing, producing 150 works on theology, philosophy and religious education, as well as a defense of the veneration if icons and numerous hymns. His work was widely cited in the Middle ages. Pope Leo Xlll declared him a doctor of the church in 1890. ~ catholiccurrent.org
